My mom is a intl. manager for the Hilton hotel co. And she said the hotels usually get rid of their furniture or beds etc. in March so keep an eye out in March if you have a Hilton hotel in your area. Expensive furniture at your local thrift stores.
NTV50 amazing tip! Thank you!
Do It On A Dime Your Welcome! Remember to check your local stores every day or week. The hotels usually disperse their old furniture March 6 thru April 9. My mom tipped me off about the furniture, some might have a label or plaque saying "HLTHTL". Some furniture are not even a year old yet! These are marked as the year like -1 for less than a year, -1+1 is over a year. 2+-0 is over 2 yrs old.
Going from that, there are hotel liquidator stores that sell all the furniture that hotels are getting rid of!
There are some nice pieces, but I would stay away from anything that has fabric on it.
hi I've never heard of or seen this store can you do a video of a walk around so I can get a better idea of the things they have a prices. I know it's never the same thing but I'm just looking for an idea before I drive far to go to one of these stores. please
+Haley Overton - Sorry, I was just at it the other day, which is why I brought it up.
I went to Fort Pitt Hotel Furniture Liquidators up in Chicago, but there are other ones.
Basically, it's just furniture that hotels don't want anymore. Nightstands, beds, desk, tables, those little dresser/refrigerator things in the hotels... It's really hit or miss as to if you will find something.
my sister found a really nice table with iron clawed feet, and it was around 100, I want to say.
There are a TON of pictures on google maps

Best FIND at Salvation Army 1/4 mile from my home: It was 11/4/15, the 14th anniversary of my father's passing to Glory. I was making a mid-week whirl through the store when I rounded an aisle corner leading to the furniture section, and I just STOPPED IN MY TRACKS -- There, right in front of me, was my father's favorite upholstered rocker circa 1940s - I had not seen the chair since the estate sale in 2005. Someone had reupholstered it but it was unmistakably his chair! I went straight for it and snatched the price ticket; it was going home with me! I was particularly struck by the fact it was the 14th anniversary of dad's passing, and he had sent me his favorite chair to say 'hello' and was thinking of me! The Lord has such an unusual but perfect sense of humor! -- Be Blessed, Kathryn ! Love your videos and enthusiasm ! -- Gayle H.
ZaSu2u I can't tell you how much I love this story. It made me cry 💕. He does.
❤💙❤💙
Ah God bless you! I know EXACTLY what you mean
KaelaLee Daley Blessings to your heart! I still miss my Mom after 45 years. You never get over losing your first love and connection in this world, BUT knowing where she is also a comfort. I was blessed to see her a few years after she passed, and I can't tell you how comforting that was. That experience came at a time in my life when I needed LOTS of hope.
ZaSu2u this made me cry too❤️I'm so happy he sent you such an obvious hello😍God bless❤️❤️❤️
My English aunt purchased a silver tea set at a market for £50. Took it to the jeweller to have it replated only to have the jeweller tell her it was solid silver! Value approx £25000!
Thank you for supporting Habitat for humanity! My family was granted a habitat house almost a year ago. It has been such a blessing to be able to have a handicapped accessible home for my special needs son.
My husband was always used to buying new and expensive things for the home. Since we've been married I've shown him the world of thrifting and he's amazed at what we find! Your coffee table turned out beautiful. Is love to see how you did it!!
Crafty Jacki Auto correct has made the best typo ever, I'm sitting here cackling. I'm assuming it's a typo or one lucky man!
The world of thrusting. .. is it that amazing?
Auto correct...
I've also introduced my husband to Estate sales and we are hooked!
Crafty Jacki lol
I have to say, you are a breath of fresh air. Beautiful person, great mother with a kind soul. 💕
My favorite thrifting find is a side table with a magazine rack. It is beautiful solid wood, and we actually use it as a stand for our record player. The magazine rack part is the perfect size for records!
I am an artist and an avid Diyer so I am always in the thrift stores every week and on the lookout for hidden gems. Although I have found TONS of great things over the years I would have to say my best find was a Mid Century Modern Bar/Bookcase at goodwill for only $20! I found an exact one on Etsy that was selling for $1600!!! 🤤
Fluid Airbrush what?? Omg that's amazing.
I love the last minute when Carson is worried that the cradle would wake Owen up. So sweet!
Your habitat store has way more than mine but its such a great cause and its cheaper most of the time! I found an iron wall cutout for $11 and its totally fixer upper style , I just painted it too! A great series to keep going is decorating with thrifted finds!
Please show us how you restored that table!! It's adorable!!!!! Love you guys!!! 😘
I have been watching your videos for years. I love love love your channel. But Carson has become one of my favorite reasons to watch your videos lol. he is the absolute sweetest! God bless him and your family Kathryn!
Your coffee table looks amazing. I love how rustic it looks. The best thing I found thrifting was an authentic Louis Vuitton cross body
I'm in my 60s and have been thrifting since my first apartment when I was 18. So we know how I deeply love thrifting! My recent favorite find is a 1950s or 60s era midcentury modern desk I found at one of those empty-the-house businesses. It was $30!!! My husband sanded and polyed the top and we use it at our cabin as a shared space. It's the spiffest thing I've ever found I think and I've found so many lovely things over the years and will thrift forever. I love that you thrift and have such a good eye!
Two great deals I've gotten over the years thrifting: a pair of lined leather pants for $3.50 and a women's trench coat with the liner all of the buttons for 50c! 😊
I have always thrifted. I can't think of any one thing. When I worked now retired, I bought most of my work dress clothes on garage sales, thrift stores. I got so many compliments. I believe in dressing for sucess. It is so rewarding when you find something you really like and get it at a really good price.
Your coffee table is so beautiful! I really want to see a chalk painting video from you! I once got an antique buffet for my dining room for $60! I am still so in love with it :)
ClutterBug I found a hutch for nothing (ok gas money) on Kijiji. I love looking for free furniture since we are on a tight budget.
I love how easy it is to upcycle thrifted goods and I love the idea of getting inspiration from bigger stores xxx
Great coffee table. The Habitat for Humanity Restore is a great place to find good quality stuff. They get their donations from stores, hotels, etc... Thanks for sharing.
Ps. Loved that cradle.
Aracelis Escalona I loved it too! I know many people who turn them into indoor planters after their kids are grown. So cute! I didn't know about the hotel thing!
Unfortunately, my Habitat store has mostly particle board etc. kinds of furniture. I do stop by however just to see if I can catch something new. We have a planned senior community that has their own thrift stores and you can find good stuff there. Lot of it is from estate sales.
I love the way you refinished your coffee table, it's so much easier than stripping it down. Now I have to try this method
Thanks for sharing
Hi Kathryn, I live rurally in the Australian Outback so thrift stores aren't that common however we do have a thing called a "Buy, swap & sell" pages. Each town usually has one and its is extremely common to get gems on there extremely affordably or even for free!
We recently purchased our first home and always get compliments on how "nice" our stuff is, however it is ALL second hand. Love your message I think re-purposing and re-using is the bomb!
I have the best memories going for drives with my parents and siblings on the weekends stopping at yard sales in town and out in the country. I still have the desire to thrift and upstyle:)
Love the fireplace/mantle/bedroom sitting area background! It looks like a real studio!
My goodness! Kathryn, you are so inspiring! I can't seem to keep up with all your tips. You are a delight!
My favorite find was actually free from a garbage pile - it was a china cabinet that my hubby ended up refinishing and put new hardware on it, it looks amazing now!
You are one of the kindest ladies of have seen on utube .
Love love love watching your videos! You have inspired me and I am a huge fan of thrift stores, rummage sales, dollar stores, and Facebook buying sites so I love to see all of your ideas, treasures and finds. Please keep the videos coming!!
LOVE the coffee table!! Would love to see a video of how you painted it!
I bought a beautiful display cabinet with glass doors an arched top and a big deep drawer at the bottom. It's in a lime washed wood finish and I just changed the door and drawer knobs to Crystal ones and gave it a wash. It's pride of place in my living room and it was £80 From our local charity furniture shop. I imagine it was easily in excess of £400 when new as it's solid, heavy piece. Great video Katherine
It is difficult to say the best thing I have ever thrifted because last year we purchase a winter home in Florida and apart from the mattresses and two lazy boy recliners we thrifted all the other furniture. We highly recommend Habitat for Humanity and Salvation Army thrift stores. We purchased a solid wood dining room table with six chairs, two of them captain chairs foe one hundred fifty dollars. I do not like the seat covering so I will be recovering them this winter.
The best part was that hubby and I had so much fun treasure hunting and we can't wait to go back and do some more this year.
Yes! Please do a DIY tutorial. I have a buffet that we are using for our entertainment area. The drawers hold all the kids movies and games. I need to chalk paint it but a little nervous about it. You do amazing work and you explain well! Thanks for all you share with us!
I do the same thing! I shop high end stores for trends and styles I like. Then, I go thrifting! I'd it with clothing, home goods, decor, everything! Love your video about eye safety for kids for eclipse. Great ideas!!
Love it! Thanks Katharine 💟 Two weeks ago my best friend and I hit a Volunteers of America thrift store on their 50% the entire store and scored a Lularoe dress in practically new condition for $2!!! The thrill of the thrifter's hunt is real! Blessings to you🌞
I would love to see how you painted your coffee table. That was a great find!!
Best thrifted deal I ever got was a portable Kenmore dishwasher on Craigs List, was hardly used retailed for $800 I snagged it for $80. Love your coffee table.
Please do make a video if you can about how you painted your coffee table!! It's beautiful. Always look forward to your videos, you have made me do so many wonderful changes in my home with organizing, decorating, and staying on a budget! Thank you so much and God bless you and your family❤
I love your videos it is so helpful for young families with kids that still want nice things for their home!! Thank you for all the helpful information!
You are so good at decorating!! I live in a small island and many ideas I get them from you. God bless you and you family.
Your coffee table turned out beautiful!!!! My favorite thing I have ever found thrifting was a black bear candle holder. When my husband and I were on our honeymoon (cabin at the foot of the Smoky mountains) there was this adorable black bear candle holder on the back of the jacuzzi that I just fell in love with. Turns out it was a rather expensive item when I searched for it online after we got home. Not two weeks later I found one that looked brand new at a garage sale for $2!!!!! I was so excited! Nearly 10 years later it's still one of my most treasured possessions :)
So awesome! Great finds and by shopping at Habitat you are making a difference in the world and helping another family get a home ...love it ❤️
I LOVE the ReStore! That's where I donate everything that I can...I have that red berry wreath and LOVE it! It is SO versatile!...You have the best ideas AND the best presentation of them! Thank you!
My favorite thrifting find is our kitchen chairs. Oak wood with a spindle back. I had been looking for them and wasn't having much luck. I found them at our ReStore!! They had been marked down so they were a little more than $20 apiece. I love them!!!
fixer upper is one of my favorite shows! plus the coffee table came out amazing.
Would love to see a tutorial on furniture painting! The best thing I have found thrifting is a blue le Cruset bean pot. It was dirt cheap. We use bigger, regular shaped pots for beans, but this one is super cute for holding dog treats and looks great on my grandparents' antique Hoosier cabinet!
My entire living room and dining room are thrifted except for my couch and recliner (which were Big Lots purchases)! I found good pieces and painted them just like yours. Even though they do not all match, the same paint color brings it all together. Thanks for this video!
That coffee table is awesome! I love your sense of style! I've been trying to inspire my mom to decorate our new farmhouse. Can you do some inexpensive farmhouse decor and furniture videos? Would love to show her some ideas. Thanks, Do It On A Dime!
I didn't even know that Habitat for Humanity Restore was a thing!! I'm so glad I watched this video. I looked, and there is one in my area. We are building a new home and I was gathering ideas for how I would decorate and furnish such a large house. This store would be perfect for outfitting the room that my mother-in-law will stay in, and the other guest rooms. Thank You!
Chalk paint is amazing! Yes watching too much fixer upper is dangerous 😝 love the way it came out!!!😍best find was my kids bed frames!!
We found pedestals for our washer and dryer at our restore. They were for the exact model we had, sold in the appliance store for $170 each. We paid $50 each, caving $240. They were black and hours were white, but a can of appliance paint fixed that. We have had them for about 15 years and the paint looks good as new. We have also purchased complete sets of kitchen cabinets from them. One was completely rebuilt- I mean dh had to resize and reshape all but two of the cabinets, then we painted them, added new hardware and viola, a laundry room that every comments on. We have another set waiting to remodel our kitchen. I could go on and on but I don't have time. You have some great ideas and I enjoy your vids. I recently made the laundry folder you showed.
I enjoyed this video because you mentioned Habitat for Humanity Restore. I have one of these stores in the shopping center by me. I have gotten so many things at great prices and what I buy helps to build houses for many people. Thanks for sharing
You inspire me . I watch you and I actually organized my pantry and my fridge. Next I will be thrifting and chalk painting . Addicted to your channel .keep posting please
Hello from Dayton Ohio! I stumbled upon your videos just a few days ago and I have to say you are such an inspiration! I love your energy and great ideas. Your videos are very informative and fun.I look forward to watching more.
I got my wedding dress for $50 at a thrift store. It was valued at over $1000.
Thank you for this video!! I never knew about this thrift store and I've been struggling to come up with cheap ways to decorate lately. You are a game changer!! Thank you!
I like your tip for looking around at expensive stores first to get ideas! I need to do that because I don't really know how to decorate.
I LOVE refurbishing furniture. I done a video on a couple things my husband and I done. We did a whole dining room set and bought it for only $50. I just recently done a side table. I plan to do some others real soon. Bless you and your family as well. XOXO
Great coffee table! My best find was a vintage Singer 301 swing machine in the original cabinet for $10! The all metal ones last forever with a little upkeep.
Love it, you have a good eye. That coffee table really looks different and it is perfect. You didn't say how much it was. Love your channel.
The table turned out beautiful. I would love to see how you did it. The planters look great also.
That table looked so beautiful with the original wood color though. I wouldn't have painted it for my own house, just because I absolutely love the way wooden furniture looks on its own, but I can totally see the light + distressed look in the living room of a beach house (perhaps with a blue couch? I love white + blue together so much)
For our nursery I got our changing table really cheap & painted it to match the rest of the furniture & also found a super expensive glider for less than $70. I love going yardsaling & to thrift stores & thinking about what I can do with stuff also 😎
My daughter and I once went thrifting for a changing table. We thought it would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. At the first Savers Thrift store we entered, she told me, "I've got to hit the restroom first." While waiting for her to come out - I found a changing table and an upright dresser with a fold-down top that converts to a changing table. HAHAHA!!!! We went with the dresser. Headed out for the correct paint - and WA-LA! Perfection!!
Best thrifting find: brand new LV bag. It still had the original tags on it :-)
I went thrifting to find a frame to make a necklace rack and found a lazy susan jewelry organizer one time and I love it! We have a deep closet where I keep jewelry, so having it rotate is super helpful. It was even better than what I was looking for! Love thrifting!
Kathryn, I'm new to watching your doitonadime vblogs. In fact I have probably only watched 20 or so since viewing the first one a few days ago, but I find them very informative, educational and entertaining . / I'm a retired Baptist minister (33 yrs as senior pastor), and I currently care for my bedridden mother in our home, while my dear wife works as a nurse in a local nursing home. I love tinkering around the house and repurposing "junk" that I find at the curb in our neighborhood. I can't stand to think that so many items are buried in the ground, when there is still so much good use left in them. I'm also a fan of the Dollar Tree, and enjoy organizing my office space, home closets, supplies in my garage and shed, using many of the storage items you feature in your vblogs. Your ideas and tips are great! Keep up the good work and never stop smiling. You deliver sparks of joy to your viewers with each vblog. God bless you and your precious family. In Jesus' name, David Cosma
You are so sweet and so much fun to go shopping with! Love your sweet boy too! Im hooked on all your videos! Thank you for all your enthusiasm and wholesome energy! Love from Sarasota 🤗
I am so happy to have found your channel ! I have been following you for a little over a month and loving it. You have a sweet family god bless you all ...hugs
I just discovered a ReStore here in Chicago thanks to this video. I found solid wood headboards for next to nothing. So happy😄 Thanks
I love your discounted finds. I am in love with that white kitchen table at the end of the video. So pretty!
Never knew what this store was but will check it out. I'm a teacher and love thrifting school supplies for my classroom. Thx for sharing. Love your videos SO much. Take care!!!
Kathryn!!!! That coffee table makeover!!!!!!! 😍 very impressive!! Love your video as always.
I love how you close with God bless you & your families! 💕 May God bless you too! Love your videos! I think my best thrift store find was several scrapbooking stamps and dies (matching sets) for a dollar each!
milk glass antique vases and bowls were the best things I have found so far.
I thrift once a week or so. This week I decided to look for a perfect pair of high-waisted jeans because I've had luck before. I meticulously looked through every pair on the rack and came away with some NYDJ jeggings (those retail for like $90) and some Gloria Vanderbilts. Both high waisted and fit me like a glove! $10 each and so worth the hunt!
Best find for me where these three beautiful 11x14 gold leaf type frames for less than 6$ we put our favorite wedding photos in them and hung them above our bed. Love thrifting and your videos :)
You are amazing! Every single one of your videos is so informative and inspirational, everyone can learn so much from your ideas
I love your videos! They’re short, to the point, and motivational to want to do your ideas. Wonderful job on every one!
I found a solid wood china cabinet for $25!! My fave thrift store find thus far.
I love habitat! So far I've only gotten small things since we are saving for a house, but I'm positive that will be my first spot after buying a house!
Kathrine, I love the new hair cut and I love the new coffee table. We have acctly been looking for a coffee table for a room in our house that has been empty for 3 years☺.. I will definitely have to try some of these tips at the thrift store!! Keep up the good work !!
I made my first visit to a Goodwill Outlet just last week. Talk about craziness! I did grab a handmade quilt with a wedding ring pattern that is worth about 400$
Love this video! I'm looking forward to learning DIY basic upholstery so that I can save a lot of items I find at thrift stores or on the side of the road. My favorite thrift store find is a vintage radio that I found about two years ago!
This is how I do it too ! I need to check out this store... I would go crazy in there ! :) My best thrifted furniture so far (My home is full of thrifted furniture and pieces found on the street for free) are 2 gorgeous mid century chairs my late husband bought for me . When I was cleaning them, I noticed , tucked under the bottom cushion, a card that had the custom made instructions.....not only were these beautiful chairs thrifted for a great price, but we also got a senior discount because my husband was over 55 at the time :)
Excellent tips- thanks. I saw your husband and I remind mine when he thrift shop with me heavier stuff- and definitely your breakfast table is amazing i am being looking for one- I hope I can get soon- thanks so much for you tips again
Hi from Greece. Although we don't have the shops that America has I enjoy watching your videos so much. I always get inspired. I would really like for you to dhow us how you painted the coffee table with chalk paint. God bless you and your family. Hugs from Greece, Rhodes.
I have been hitting the local garage sales on Facebook. I have been getting things for free and fixing and painting/redoing them. I have redone my living room and love the results! 2 sofas that were dirty, cleaned them, lamps and mirrors only a couple of bucks, painted, and plates from the thrift store.
Thrifting is my favorite! I just hit up 3 thrift stores today, but only scored at Goodwill! I found a set of nesting trays for 1.99 and a canvas print normally priced 15.99 at hobby lobby for only 1.99! 😁❤️ I love your videos.. they inspire me to look for those amazing finds..
Love the coffee table! I would definitely like a video on how you did the DIY finish!!
We've found bookcases and our entertainment center at Goodwill but our favorite find was a cat tower at the restore for only $20! What a steal!!! My husband has also gotten several items from people he does service for just giving away or throwing away things.
loved, the coffee table after you finished with, Gorgeous...loved the haircut. Have a blessed day
Recently the best thing we found was a shelf. That fits perfectly in this oddly small closet we have downstairs. We didn't want to drill any shelves in because we are renting but the shelf is almost like it was made for that closet and we got it for 8bucks! So now I can store away more things and utilize the closet space to its fullest :)
Oh Katherine would love to see your technique of distressing, love you and all your videos and your family.
The best thing my daughter found at good will store ( no habitat for humans store in my town ,wish there was ) was a wall clock that looked real old , but was made in China. But it looks real good and after she repaired works great. I found a tapestry like the one hanging in my Doctors office.that I liked It was of a village in Peru S.A.! I was stunned to find it ! Love your show ❤️ 👵🏻
That is such a cool idea to shop at the hfh store! You are so creative. I'm so glad there are gifted people like you to inspire non creative people like me!
I am trying to minimize my home, but I love seeing your shopping tips and fun. God bless your family right back!
I found a limited edition G. Harvey print that is valued at almost $1000.00 for $19.50 at Salvation Army. I love his work and couldn't afford to buy one at retail prices. Imagine my surprise when I found out what I had found!
We are planning to buy a house and of course you are my inspiration when it comes to decoration........you are the BEST! Thank you and God bless! xoxo from Las Vegas! ❤
Beautiful - your home decor is looking so good! I think we are going to need a fall home tour.. I also love the farmhouse style.
Two years ago I wanted a little coffee station and asked my family to keep an eye out for a small hutch. My inlaws found an old dry-sink free from a yard sale leftover and snagged it for me! I just painted it a pretty warm gray and it's perfect.
You have always had a great knack for thrifting. I'll have to see if there is a habitat store near us, what a great idea! I love how you updated the table, it turned out great!- Christina
Amazing finds! I love the coffee table makeover, and the planters are a SCORE!
Our Re-Store is great, too, as are our Thrift Stores and Facebook groups. My favorite find was a $1600 very well made and near near perfect condition for $100. My next favorite was the best pair of shoes I've ever had, still with tags and in the box for $2 that retailed for over $200. Thrifting is fun, especially when you make something your own along the way.
