This is how I furnished my entire home when I moved from the East coast to the West. And I have now redone it all with different colors and fabrics. One of my faves was a 1930's coffee table that was painted cantaloupe, which I did in fire engine red. It's now taupe. I also got a wrought iron dining set off the curb and covered each chair seat in my fave dress and top. They are now basic khaki. I love to reuse and recycle, and get my crafty fix while customizing!
I go thrifting weekly and love it! I was recently looking for some kind of shelf for our essential oils. I found a nice wood shot glass shelf at Goodwill for $5. Removed a gold strip at the top that was printed "United States Shot Glass Collection," and using my Silhouette Cameo, cut out "There is oil in the house of the wise" from Proverbs 21:20 and placed it at the top. It's perfect!
You can also buy printed canvases from the thrift store and paint your own art on them. It's cheaper than buying a new canvas. Thank you for sharing✌💛☺
I've been thrifting and flea marketing for over 40 years so there have been some incredible finds over the years. One of my favorite deals was a gorgeous antique dinnerware set from Germany. No idea of the maker or age other than the owner saying her mother brought it here from Germany in the 1910s (this was in 1980). I fell in love as soon as I saw it and despite still being in high school, bought it for my someday home. She charged me $10. A few years pass, I am in my first apartment, using and loving my dishes set. A few moves, a few years and while I still like it, I'm not in love so much so decide to sell it in a yard sale. I put $20 on it thinking I would sell for $15. In the first part of the day, this lady shows up and she's oohing and ahhing over the dishes. She told me she was an antiques dealer and she thinks these are worth way more than 20 bucks. She asked me to hold them while she went to her shop to look them up (this is way before we had the mini computers we put in our pockets). Two hours later, she comes back with some china bible of pricing and shows me the set with all the serving pieces I have is worth at least $500. She offered me $200, explaining how she will price them in her shop and that she hoped to sell for $400-500. I was more than happy to accept it. Wasn't the item I made the most on but definitely memorable for me because of her honesty and kindness.
You are so sweet and happy!!! Always a pleasure to watch and listen to you! Uplifting, perky, cheerful, and informative! Thank you for sharing your beautiful self, wealth of information and inspiration!! What a joy!
Another great video! Whether you know it or not, some of us watch for more than the awesome tips. Your reassuring nature is a comfort to me. I have a special needs son and your videos are a welcome respite from the difficulties I face with my him all day long. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤🙏🏻
@@compassion2126 very close inspection for signs of bedbugs, and maybe steam cleaning. Yeah, bedbugs are really taking the fun out of thrifting and curb shopping.
Found a gently used sectional on Craigslist that retailed at Ashley's for $1500...for $50!! Lady needed it gone from her apartment in 2 days because it would not fit at her new place! She was desperate...I was lucky!!
Used furniture is usually so cheap because people seem to get rid of it only when they are moving or when they've already bought something new and it's coming in.
I love you!! Your bright energy and organization tips changed my life. Literally! 😘😘😘 I'm struggling to keep up with a 20-month old and an 8th grader with special learning needs. The spaces I was inspired to organize after watching your videoa (before baby was born) are still my favorite places in my home to look at 😍😆 Each one of your videos is a inspiration to us all. May you be blessed today and every day for all the positive energy you share with others. God Bless you 😘😘
Beautiful beautiful glass flower containers!!! So so cute!!! 💖💖💖🙌 If you are reading this, I hope you have an amazing, Beautiful, productive and positive Fall !!!
Thank you Kathryn I love your content and your videos! Your energy and positivity is priceless ! I could watch your videos all day! In case no one has told you today You Are Enough! Have a blessed day!🦋
Love the bleach tie dye sweatshirt. My son and I made some. Super easy and not messy! Plus when you dye over it with regular tie dye it an amazing look.
I love that you have 1.5 million subscribers here! You are such an inspiration and you give me so much motivation to keep going with my channel. It’s so hard to get noticed with a new channel but the fact you started from the bottom and got here is such a huge inspiration 🙌💗
I love thrifting and antique shopping! I bought a very pretty blue decanter at the antique store for $11 and went back for a matching blue divider dish ($15). Both sit in my bathroom. The divider dish holds Q-tips and cotton balls.
I would love to see a video on how to update pieces when you live in an apartment. I don’t have a backyard, but do have a balcony, so there’s a limit to the space I have available to paint and do handiwork or crafting.
I've had to update furniture indoors. I skipped the spray paint and broke out paint cans, a brush for details and legs, and a roller designed to paint furniture. I just put a big piece of cardboard underneath, but garbage bags work too (you can split them apart and tape them together if you need to).
I just moved into an apartment and thrifted and DIYed all my furniture. We recently did our dresser too. In the living room I put down a used bed sheet I wasn’t going to use again (twin sized and I have a queen bed now) and put cardboard under the legs. I very carefully brushed all the paint on. Use thin coats and make sure to open a window for proper ventilation. Do 3 coats and finish with a polyurethane top coat. I got no paint on the carpet at all, but it did smell up the place for a day or two. After letting everything dry and moving the dresser to its place we washed the bed sheet and let our roomba go through the room to pick up any dust from sanding. The apartment looked a hot mess for a few days, but I furnished the whole thing for less than a grand including a brand new couch. Completely worth it. Just be careful inside and don’t use spray paint indoors.
Hello Kathryn ! So nice to see your smiling face and your positive 💡. I have been thrifting a very, very, very long time (cause I'm old lol or as i like to say, " older with youthful benefits " lol ) i just finished a huge solid oak 9 drawer dresser as hall console table with storage. It cost $25 , a tin of chalk paint, new pulls and dark stain. My husband removed the top 3 shelves and placed a pine board for basket storage. Stay safe my friend. We( our school board have been home for 2 days bc of Teddy's high winds and rain. Love from Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
These are great! I absolutely love thrifting! I used to never want to be caught dead in a thrift store when I was younger and now I go as often as I can! I just bought a super heavy kitchen table and chairs for only $60 off of FB Marketplace. It needs a bit of love but still such an amazing deal!
I love thrifting. We finally got our basement done and moved our two boys downstairs. We found two solid wood desks for under $10 each. Sanded them down and stained them with an espresso stain. They turned out so nice. We also found a gently used sofa with a chaise for $15, and two ottoman storage cubes for $4 each. My favorite though was fixing up and spray painting my parents old 70s stereo cabinet to use in our family room.
Thanks for the tip on the spray nozzle! I finally painted my white wrought iron plant stand black. I've been wanting to do it for years. I was actually sad that the Rustoleum can had a very easy spray trigger. But I'm saving it so I no longer procrastinate. Thanks for showing how easy it can be!
I have added brushstrokes to paintings too, and it definitely gives it dimension. Recently I bought some canvas art from Dollar Tree and I actually glued beads on to them to get them dimension. Great tips, thank you for sharing!😍💃💃💃
The gloss gel tip is FABULOUS! Thanks! I haven't been lucky finding things in thrift stores, but I could definitely use your tip for a Marshall's find.
Thrifted: 1 pinstriped orange & cream long sleeve shirt and a beige chenille super soft sweater for $8.50 from which I was able to make 18!! different sized pumpkins for Fall which turned out Amazing!! I used stuffing from old pillows so each pumpkin only cost 47¢ each and the biggest one is about 15 inches tall!! Love thrifting and finding treasures!
I love going to thrift stores. Before COVID hit in 2020, I was getting ideas, prices etc... and planning on having a pantry built in my 1940 house. Then everything changed. No pantry. In 2021 when things calmed down a bit I was at the local Salvation Army and found a solid wood wardrobe ( I think). 2 doors on top with 1 adjustable shelf and 2 drawers on the bottom. I took the shelf to Lowe’s and had 2 more shelves cut and matched up the stain pretty good. Salvation Army was less than $100. 2 new shelves and stain around $50. I’ve since added an antique pie cupboard to my kitchen that was less than $200. Everything cost alot less than the pantry I was originally planning for.
It is amazing to go thrifting and I miss it! Can't wait to do it again! (I have autoimmune issues. ) Enjoy it for me until it is safer for me! TFS, you are awesome Kathryn!🙏😷🤗
Great vid as usual. As a fellow furniture saver, please, please spring for a respirator mask if you continue to use spray paint. They're usually not far away from the spray paint section, are reusable, and use replaceable filters. They cost around 25 bucks- way cheaper than medical issues later. Take care and see you next video!
I grew up shopping at Goodwill, & now these stores are clean & well stocked. I furnished my first apartment using thrift stores & garage sales. You are right - people donate amazing things - & if it's new to me, who cares?
A major learning curve for me when thrifting is looking at items beyond their current condition! I sometimes forget that I can simply paint something over or add a cute accessory to an item and give it an all new look! Thrifting is so fun!
The clear gloss applied to paintings is the most brilliant tip I have seen this year!! Keep being you because you are so wonderful. 💚Anne, League City, TX
My most recent thrift store success was in buying blue and white bowls, mugs, cups, and jars. I used a diamond drill bit to cut drainage holes in the bottoms so I could use them for my growing live succulent collection. I found that stoneware cut MUCH more easily and cleanly than glassware did. I need just a few more, so I’m heading to a Goodwill store that I haven’t been to yet to see if they have the perfect pot for my propagations.
Thank you Kathryn, I absolutely love ❤️ your channel!!! I never really shopped at Dollar tree before until I watched you for the first time and in Ontario Canada we have dollar tree!! Now I am a regular customer, I used to shop at Dollarama but they are too expensive. Our Dollar tree is everything for a 1.25 !!! Thank you again for your enthusiasm, you always make my day happy 😊
Where is your dollar tree in Ontario. The one in Kitchener and Waterloo don't have much in the craft section, in fact they got rid of all the stencils. The cleaning supply section isn't very good compared to the dollarama either.
janet walker I live in Welland, we have 2 dollar tree stores each store seems to supply different stuff. One has awesome craft section and the other store has better selection in cleaning products. The dollar trees are better in the USA, and I love their Dollar General stores! I agree Dollarama does have a good selection however they charge more than a dollar!!
The best find I’ve had was at an estate sale. My mom found a solid dark cherry wood desk 67x28 with a glass top and seven drawers for $500. The color and drawer pulls almost match exactly to my bedroom set that belonged to my grandparents. We later found out it was probably worth $4000-$5000. Such a steal.
Found a large dark, rectangular, chucky coffee table at a thrift store. Used chalk paint on it and a sealer. Added new hardware. Great coffee table with 2 huge dogs in the house.
I LOVE thrift stores, but it’s always important to look for signs of bed bugs or other pests. A quick google search could save you a nightmare. Happy thrifting!
Really great video, Kathryn! I have just started going to thrift stores. This is a whole new world for me. I really appreciate your videos on this subject. It's so rewarding when you find a treasure that you least expect.....and for a fraction of the cost. Thanks so much!
The Gel Medium trick is such a great trick! Those "Starving Artist Oil Paintings" are done that way. They are actually canvas prints of paintings that have been painted over with oil in small areas. That's how they get by with calling them Oil paintings!
I found a glass door cabinet and painted it an expresso brown. My first thifting project was a table and chairs. I found the chairs first and reupholstered them. Then i found a small table top, a large table top and a small step ladder and created a table and chairs.
I love antique shopping in thrift stores. All of my mid century art glass came from there except for a couple I inherited from my grandma. Found a solid brass Stiffel lamp that I had restored and rewired. Makes modern glam style look like kids stuff. Hard to find LE Smith glass canisters and an awesome vintage Hazel Atlas mixing bowl. My favorite find is vintage shelf pixies. All items that would go for so much more at an antique store. Vintage glass mixing bowls and Pyrex are the best. New kitchenwares aren't even half as good.
I always look for older well made wooden furniture and paint/stain it to match my decor. Baskets and dishware are items I also look for! Oh, old books also! 🎅🏼🦌❤️🎄🤶
My favorite find is a handmade mahogany jewelry box with tiny brass knobs. It's inscribed 1963. Beautiful. 9.99 before my coupon. My thrift store gives me great insider tips to other local thrift shops and when and where to shop.
I love your energy. Ur smile is so beautiful. I love to do things on low budget but with class. I love your ideas. Although I just saw 2 of ur vids still I thought to appreciate u.u r doing great. Most of the DIYs use so expensive tools n paints that it's better to buy a high end product then a DIY. But u do cover this..atleast in the 2 videos I saw
Great idea for baskets and like you said there is an endless supply. Now everytime I see baskets I'll have to consider how they can be used for storage. Another neat idea is to spray paint them to go with your decor. Happy thrifting!
Kathrine! I love who you are and what you do. I love your honesty and your sweet personality! Thank you for being you and making us feel like family💜💜God bless you and your family💜💜
Lol.. love thrifting.. And yes they do have a lot of glasses... amazing other finds!! It’s like trick or treating!!! Just never know what you’ll stumble into😊
What a gorgeous job you and your friend did on that dresser and the decor around it was perfect. You're absolutely awesome! xxoo 💖 Oh almost forgot. Love the vases. I'm totally going to try that. Thanks so much
I am a new subscriber - love your videos!! A few years back, I found a brass floor lamp at the Salvation Army store for $14.99. I strongly suspected it was solid brass when I bought it because it was so heavy. Not only did it turn out to be solid brass, but Stiffel to boot!! I don't know what it would appraise for, but there is a dealer on ebay right now that wants $323.00 for that same lamp. I have one bookshelf that is dedicated to a collection of Capodimonte floral figurines found at Goodwill several years back. I knew nothing about Capodimonte at the time, but had an Italian boyfriend that spotted them first (thank God he was with me). I've also got a collection of hand painted German Bavarian, Austrian and Japanese plates that although are not particularly valuable, I find quite beautiful.
Great tips! I can't wait to try the gloss painting. I bought a brand new still in the box Dyson at the local Goodwill for $100! Target used to donate their unsold clearance items on Tuesdays. Best thrift score to date!
Love your videos, I look forward to every one of them!! Especially in these trying times. Thrifting not only helps our wallets, it helps non-profits, our environment, and who doesn’t want to DIY with your BFF?! Much love from Canada 🇨🇦💕
Theres videos where I think to myself "OMG! It's so long, too much talking" then find myself skipping through it... HOWEVER with Kathryns videos, I WANT THEM TO BE LONGER 😂😫 Gime mooooore 👌🏽
Same! She's one of the few people who get straight to the point without 5min of unnecessary talking before getting to the actual video. She does a great job with the editing and quickness of her vids!
A gal had a trundle bed, on Nextdoor, listed for free! I texted her; You know those go for a hundred bucks? She said, I don't care, I want it gone. So, I took it. SCORE!
Love the hacks for shopping at the thrift store. I've found jeans, luggage, and purses at the thrift store. This video reminds me that it's time to go thrifting again!😀
I love to thrift. I recently told my dad that all of the household stuff I will ever need has already been made and purchased by someone else and is waiting for me to find it. Reuse, reduce and recycle : )

My mind has been blown with all your tips and tricks from the Dollar Tree. I’m trying them all.

Great coffee table with 2 huge dogs in the house.
you have motivated me to love my house and for my house to bring me joy
Love thrifting!! Old books are my favorite to find at the thrift store!! Baskets are a close second!! Great video & tips!! 👍❤️😊
Good morning! I love thrift shopping and have found so many treasures for a steal. Thank you for all your tips. Stay safe. ❤😊
I lost a tooth last night
I LOVE thrift stores, but it’s always important to look for signs of bed bugs or other pests. A quick google search could save you a nightmare.
Happy thrifting!
Thanks so very much for pointing that out, never thought of that. Now I'm going to come up with a game plan.
How do I look for bedbugs?
I want to get a couch but afraid to get it used for this reason.
Compassion 21 black light works, but I believe only for the younger ones.
Sandy M what do you mean by do a google search? To see if people have reported finding bugs there?
Yes that’s why I don’t buy upholstered furniture from the thrift store
This was really fantastic! Your friends dresser turned out spectacular🤩
oh my! i LOVE that blue wall color!
I love estate sales so much fun and find amazing deals
Really great video, Kathryn! I have just started going to thrift stores. This is a whole new world for me. I really appreciate your videos on this subject. It's so rewarding when you find a treasure that you least expect.....and for a fraction of the cost. Thanks so much!
Love Love Love your tips!! Thank you!! 🤗
I love how the dresser turned out!
Very very beautiful. Great work you have carried out. EXCELLENT IDEA. Big thumbs up.
Thank you for all of the positivity you bring! You are so real and I just appreciate you do much! ❤️
Just never know what you’ll stumble into😊
I love how the chest turned out. And the trick with the painting was genius! Thznks.
No matter how bad my day is, I can always count on these videos to pick me up ❤
Love redoing furnture, the before and after so satisfying.
What a gorgeous job you and your friend did on that dresser and the decor around it was perfect. You're absolutely awesome! xxoo 💖
Oh almost forgot. Love the vases. I'm totally going to try that. Thanks so much
Wooooow. That drawers came out beautiful.
The stair basket is a staple in our home. I love them and have one for each of my girls. ❤️
Hello Michelle
Looovvvvvveeeee the dresser!!! So perfect! I’m gonna try to create that look
Love your shawl! 🥰 And all the great ideas. My daughter loves crafting so the thrift store is the best place to hit up for supplies!
That's the best find I've heard of so far. Way to go. 👍
If they're over 30 minutes long I won't even open them. If they have no more respect for my time than that I'll hard pass.
Same! She's one of the few people who get straight to the point without 5min of unnecessary talking before getting to the actual video. She does a great job with the editing and quickness of her vids!
Loved the textured painting idea.
Thank you💐. You gave me
an idea to renew my room😊
at a small cost💚
Since I don't have Facebook, I've gotten some of my second hand items from the Nextdoor "For Sale and Free" section of the app!
A gal had a trundle bed, on Nextdoor, listed for free! I texted her; You know those go for a hundred bucks? She said, I don't care, I want it gone. So, I took it. SCORE!
Thank you for this video. My greatest find was a metal seat with black cution and with under shoe storage. For $7.99
I've been watching you for 3 years and still appreciate you Kathryn! God bless you and yours!💜🙏✌🍁🎃
Love thrifting for myself and for resale!!❤️
Love the hacks for shopping at the thrift store. I've found jeans, luggage, and purses at the thrift store. This video reminds me that it's time to go thrifting again!😀
The spray paint update to the dresser is GREAT!!! My favorite!! Great video!!
DO IT ON A DIME . LOVE EVERYTHING YOU DO ❤ !!!
Omg! How dare you disliking her videos... she is AMAZING 🤩 Keep it up, many blessings
Lots of good ideas! Never knew about the spray can handle! Will look for it. Thanks!!
Thrifting allows me to have nice things that I would otherwise never be able to afford. It’s my favorite!
I just love s good thrift store. I purchased a formal dining set...carved feet. One of my best finds.
These were some of the best tips!! Thanks so much!!
Oh love that furniture piece you painted. How lovely!! You are so gifted! Love every post you do!!
What a score on that stair basket! Love it! Thanks for the great tips♥️
You always have great tips ❤. Will look at furniture differently when I go to the thrift store now ☺. Thanks for sharing.
