This man ends a nearly year long hiatus with a wonderfully crafted, well edited hour long video. This was a fun ride, I missed this channel. Also I really liked that 'between a banana and a spiky boy' running joke.
I've done this challenge for all three SNES DKC games YEARS ago (2011-2012)! This brings back so many memories! I originally came across this idea from my brother who wanted to see in DKC1 who could get the lowest amount of bananas through the whole game. My total for DKC 2 was 214 for Any%, but have yet to do 100% in any of the games as a matter of fact. The idea of using Klobbers in my run though seemed too gimmicky since you can just do that and leave the world everytime you collected any, ruining the integrity of the challenge in the first place. So for this sake, I just only include the bananas that I purposely have to collect in a universal counter. HERE IS MY VIDEO OF WHICH I AM COMPARING THIS DETAILED DESCRIPTION BETWEEN THE TWO VIDEOS : ua-cam.com/video/UyXLe8UViNQ/v-deo.html My Video vs His Video! Let the GAMES BEGIN!!! SORTING: My # of bananas is my run that I list first, and in parenthesis will be his banana count (his run) and the strats we used: NOTE: He seems to use strategies within a level as opposed to death abusing to get another Kong Barrel from a safer level within the area, so my run and banana count might differ slightly from his routing (Example: Bramble Blast checkpoint dying to get a DK barrel in earlier stage and damage abusing to dodge some more bananas). I would like to know if that is allowed for this challenge that you set. Anyway, without further ado, here we go! WORLD 1: 11 (4) Biggest problem I had was using 2 more warps than I needed to. WORLD 2: 19 (14) I took an extra warp compared to him and grabbed 1 extra without utilizing the trick with Diddy to avoid the 1 in Lava Lagoon. Overall, my World 1 and 2 are garbage because of warping over doing the level. Just un-knowledgeable back then I guess, but the rest from here gets a lot more interesting anyway! WORLD 3: 73 with Bramble Blast, 28 without (36 without Bramble Blast, ?? with all stages) The biggest optimization I had was Barrel Bayou and Krockhead Klamber. Basically in Barrel Bayou you can avoid grabbing all the bananas (11:44 in my video) and only grab a partial amount of them. In Krockhead Klamber, (15:40-15:57 in my video), I utilize more gliding with Dixie and bouncing on enemies to surpass Kroc heads which contain 2 sets of bananas. I wish that he went through the entire Bramble Blast and see if he would utitize death abuse to dodge more bananas like in my run (example: 22:30 in my video). Otherwise continued as normal! WORLD 4: 58 with all stages, 11 with counted stages (10 with counted stages, ?? with all stages) Hornet Hole we both had the same amount, but I took Squitter Route and ended up with the same amount as him. Target Terror sadly was not discussed, but with checkpoint death abuse for a DK barrel later, I got 20 in that stage. Interestingly in Bramble Scramble, we both get past the first Banana Barrage, but I use a much bigger damage boost by throwing kongs and damaging yourself at a specific time which gives a MAJOR height boost (32:30 my video), but his way is a lot more simple! ^^ *WITH THIS STRATEGY IN MIND, SOME OTHER LEVELS MIGHT BE DOABLE WITH LESS BANANAS SO KEEP THAT IN NOTE!!!* Anyway, he has me beat in this level by 1 banana with the divot advantage he used at 32:20. RICKETY RACE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE!!! (35:40 in my video) I purposely stall the skull cart for about 2 minutes to let the Kremling ensure that they get ahead of me so I can place last in the race. This is because when you hit them from going too fast, you get bananas from them, and overall is more dangerous to dodge at faster speeds, so I wait about 2 minutes to ensure that they all reach the end of the stage without running into any! You can control the speed of your cart at this point in time and only need to speed up when you cross over open gaps. With this strategy in mind, I was able to get only 9 bananas from this stage through the means of cart jumping timing. A VERY challenging and tedious stage to say the least though! Rambi Rumble I had only gotten 6 before the checkpoint with a damage boost into a zinger (42:20 in my video). Rambi can do a double jump if timed correctly after doing a dash attack. I hate that row of unavoidable bananas myself during the queen bee chase section! xD For some reason, there was a lot of audio issues in the second half of the stage, and if I remember correctly there was some kinda weird issue with Windows Movie Maker that I didn't check during reformatting when I was getting it in MP4 format (This was 2012, Windows Movie Maker soooo oldschool! :P). Either way, ended up with a total of 18 bananas for that level so I think it could be barely possible with your trophy counter. WORLD 5: 42 with all stages, 12 with counted stages (21 with counted stages, ?? with all stages) Ghostly Grove has another strategy at the first banana arch to where you can buddy jump after using the barrel to get rid of the zinger to only collect 1 instead of your route going over it, but hey I like your way too! ^^ (46:40 in my video). The second set with 2 banana archs can actually be done with only collecting 1 in it (47:25 in my video). Basically you have to jump really low on the rope and grab the very bottom of the next one and use the dodge technique you display for the second one. So with that I managed to only get 2 in this stage compared to your 5. Haunted Hall...................................................Yeah, this stage sucks....Only tricks you can use are hit abuse ones for certain parts of the route and going through a bonus stage to bypass an area with more bananas. 30 Bananas here. You are right, alongside Bramble Blast, worst stage for banana collecting. Gusty Glade I love your updated tech for reaching Rattley!

I should have known after all the trouble Ghostly Grove was, that there would have been a way to get less, but I didn’t catch it. I’m really surprised you can get Rickety Race under 20; I figured there was nothing that would even come close.
Yeah I had this experience a while back until his Sunshine video showed up in my recommended again. His videos are so good and pleasant that I probably filed him under "Major UA-camrs who upload weekly or monthly" when I subscribed to him. But he really doesn't have too many videos. It makes the channel feel like it must be a passion project of his, rather than a job or an attempt to imitate other people. It's really great. It looks like some of the Bronze medal stages could have several bananas shaved off of them, Gusty Glade and Parachute Panic being chief among them. You'd need a TAS to do that though, and it wouldn't make them silver medals, but it's still worth mentioning. Also, frickin awesome vid man!
Pretty sure if you shave off all possible bananas, then it instantly makes it a silver, due to silver being minimum and bronze being “able to be reduced if you have skill”
Dude this was a very fun video to watch. Donkey Kong country 2 is one of my most favorite games and seeing you do all these maneuvers and strategies in my favorite game was just so intriguing to watch. The editing is great and the visual jokes are amazing. Thank you so much for making this video.

Fantastic, another enthralling video. Don’t worry about video length being too long, I could watch a two hour Particular Mushroom video without hesitation. I never played a classic DKC game but this has certainly showcased what makes them classics
I lost my shit at the Crocodile Isle acapella at the end 🤣. That lost world fire stage with the moving barrels was really interesting. If I were to think about it, it feels like when playing that stage normally you have to do everything in your power to just barely reach each new barrel before the timer runs out, but it was surprising seeing how much room for experimentation the game gave you. It definitely doesn't feel like that when you're in the heat of the moment.

I'm only 13 minutes in but I'm enjoying the video. I like the little prologue about the philosophy of challenge runs and what what a good one versus what's just an endurance test and/or exercise in tedium. Great stuff, and worth discussing before defining the main challenge.

A bit late, but it's scientifically correct to call apes "monkeys" since they are right in the middle of the group we call Old World Monkeys, which are closer to each other than the New World Monkeys, and this whole family tree is called "Simians". Fantastic, another enthralling video. Don’t worry about video length being too long, I could watch a two hour Particular Mushroom video without hesitation. I never played a classic DKC game but this has certainly showcased what makes them classics
I lost my shit at the Crocodile Isle acapella at the end 🤣.
That lost world fire stage with the moving barrels was really interesting. If I were to think about it, it feels like when playing that stage normally you have to do everything in your power to just barely reach each new barrel before the timer runs out, but it was surprising seeing how much room for experimentation the game gave you. It definitely doesn't feel like that when you're in the heat of the moment.

I'm only 13 minutes in but I'm enjoying the video. I like the little prologue about the philosophy of challenge runs and what what a good one versus what's just an endurance test and/or exercise in tedium. Great stuff, and worth discussing before defining the main challenge.

A bit late, but it's scientifically correct to call apes "monkeys" since they are right in the middle of the group we call Old World Monkeys, which are closer to each other than the New World Monkeys, and this whole family tree is called "Simians".
