I mean i always hated that one where it like open world and you gotta find the keys to progress. I always die because of the changes to the swim controls. But the worst part is that there are no checkpoints.

I’ve always loved the Donkey Kong games. The fantastic level design, the believable yet vividly vibrant world, the characters, the enemies, the music…it all adds up to something truly incredible. Hell yeah! The DKC games were one of my favourites on our SNES back when I was a kid, and having them on the go with the Switch is neat! I might still have DKCR and TF laying around somewhere, too

The fact that your 233th level, your most hated level of the series, is actualy one of my favorites, just tells us how much these games are great just in general. I really like the poisonous color palette, i think the theming is awesome, having spikes in the level just expresses how stressful the situation is for the kongs, all the whilst having fast fish ennemies telling us how stressed they are to be in this environement aswell. 🙏
the fish ennemies are aids, but at least i can laugh at them now whenever i play this horrendous level! Jokes aside I do think it is an interesting looking level but the unfair obstacles will always make me hate it. The slowest movement in the entire series has the fastest obstacles in the series, this is rather silly. I greatly appreciate the massive comment though. Unfortunately I see a black hole forming outside of my window.
Am I the only one who loves Web Woods? Squitter is easily my favourite animal buddy in the whole series, especially because of the web platforms. And the backwards cannonball is super neat. It's always one of my highlights when I run DKC2
Yep, Squitter is the best animal buddy, and Web Woods is a masterpiece! Creating your own platforms in a platformer is always neat (See: Cloud Mario, Ice Beam shenanigans in Metroid, Tornado/Claw in Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest), and Squitter has some of the series' absolute best levels (Krack Shot Kroc and Hornet Hole are some other really awesome ones. Twin Tyrant Tussle is neat too, though Squitter is more about offense there than his platforming).
no i love using Squitter, he's fun to use and i never had trouble with the platforms. They shake when theyre about to break and also if you place more than 3 the first one goes away, using that i dont remember having much trouble (except for the coin being based on your timing on the goal
I loved the video. It was a very good experience to hear all your considerations about the levels, and even though there were some differences in preferences, I was able to understand why some levels were at the bottom of the list. It was also very, very interesting to hear all this from someone who loves the franchise as much as I do, I loved hearing all the notes, I was like: "Wow, that's right!" and I kept a huge smile on my face as I listened. I could spend hours debating the setting, the environment, music, the details in the levels, and I'm sure you would understand everything and point out things that I wouldn't have even noticed. I sat through all 4 hours of this and it was absolutely worth it I love this franchise and i appreciate that you took the time to appreciate every game and all of their amazing levels. I grew up on returns and it is underappreciated due to tropical freeze being an improvement in almost every way, so I'm happy someone showed how amazing its levels truly are. Sunset shore is also my favorite donkey kong level because of its atmosphere, music, vibes and all the other small details (lining up the banana, lining up the sun, the ants, etc). Great video, keep it up!
A fellow giga chad sunset shore enjoyer. Seriously though, its such an incredible level, IN THE FIRST WORLD OF THE FUCKING GAME. It being a secret level definitely adds to its charm, but would still be number 1 regardless. Returns catching stray bullets 24/7 always confused me because i never had any issue with it at all. The final world was a little mid but other than that its an incredible game. The bosses kinda suck too i guess. Glad you enjoyed all 4 hours 🫶
As a competitive DKC enthusiast since day 1 in 1994 (DKC2 is my favorite game of all time on any console) this was a fun watch despite the fact that I would’ve ranked a lot of it differently but that the beauty of opinion. FYI web woods was the first time a video game made me put the controller down. I was in 3rd grade and ditched the game for months until I returned, and destroyed it. It in fact is one of my favorite levels now, because I enjoy the masochistically hard levels in the trilogy 😂 cheers

It's not everyday I'll sit through a 4 hour video, but man I loved this from start to finish. There's just something great about hearing someone talk about something they very clearly are super passionate about. Plus, the masterpiece that is Sunset Shore playing in the background with that heartfelt end note was amazing. This is the kind of video that you just rarely find nowadays, they just feel really special.
Wow this must’ve taken forever! It’s well edited. Awesome job! Obviously I don’t agree on everything, but this is such a nice love letter to the series. Used to watch my older siblings play 1+2 all the time as a kid and was obsessed! They all said 3 was lame and didn’t give it a chance. When I got a little older, I played them all, and did give 3 a chance. So glad I did! It has a lot of extra content and it has some unique mechanics. I’ve played the first 3 more times than I can count, attempted Returns but didn’t get far, and am on the final boss of Tropical Freeze. I wasn’t used to the controls in Returns, so I gave up, but I want to try again because I think I’m missing out on a great game! Also it took me a bit to get used to Tropical Freeze’s as well, but I’m glad I kept trying. Anyway, this series is amazing and I hope we’ll see more DK in the future.

Great breakdown of every level in the series, DKC is one of my favorite of all time. I agree with a lot of your picks for DKCR. Definitely earned a sub. Knew that Irate Eight and Sawmill Thrill would be in the top 15 at least, I love Sawmill Thrill and the music god it's good
for real. The boat mechanic was super cool too. I wish the level came later in the game so it could have the switching sides mechanic like the beach mine-cart level. As for the dkcr picks, thats not only my favorite in the series but my favorite game of all time. Im glad I got that one right!

well id say thats alot of people in general. The most hated levels in platformers are water and autoscrollers. Especially in a game series where dying over and over is common, retying over again on slow levels is beyond frustrating
That was a really well crafted video :D Found myself agreeing with a lot of placements but the one for Grassland Groove hurt my feelings.. Still, this made me want to replay every game yet again (it's also one of my absolute favorite series in gaming) When will we finally get a new game after 10 whole years :[ Would love to see more content on DKC if you have any more ideas to fit into a video! Because this was a good amount of food right for my painful DKC hunger. It was also pretty funny and sometimes I wondered just how long you're able to continue a single sentence lol.
I get more runtime in my sentences than daily exercise time, which is 0 by the way. And i am planning on doing a series on 2 fan made dkc games. One being dkc 2 lost levels and the other is called dkc the trilogy. Those videos wont be out for a while because not only am i waiting to get a new mic bc the old one broke, but also because i have other videos ready and planned. Probably march ish is when ill start that series. Ive beaten neither game so it will be interesting to play them. The modern games imo are a pretty insane leap ahead of the snes games. The snes games were really good, but when you get to DKCR it feels like the hardware finally catches up to what Donkey Kong Country really wanted to be all along. I'm usually a retro game defender, but the DKC games are some of the few games that feel held back by being on the snes, in a way that something like Super Metroid or Link to the Past doesn't. The levels are just so much more vibrant and alive in Returns and Tropical Freeze, it does the premise justice in a way that wasn't possible on the super nintendo.
@@ohno5559 while i don't ENTIRELY agree, i see where you are coming from. In alot of ways I do share some of those thoughts, but theres a time and a place for the snes games as well. It really depends on my mood. Also the retro roll makes gameplay alot different. Momentum and movement make them play like 2 completely different series. Speaking of link to the past, im hoping we get a links awaking style remake of it, with the plastic toy look. Id really like that.
@@dripp_dropp Yeah I don't think the originals are obsolete or anything, just surpassed. And they obviously deserve a lot of credit for originating many of the ideas that made the modern ones so good.

i recorded sessions in bulk, and going from game to game had complications. I had to do alot of tweaks and it still sounded kind of off, so i preferred it to be too quiet other than too loud. Hope this makes sense
I'm glad to find another person who struggled to beat DKC2 without save states their first time playing, I absolutely abused that feature for the whole game. I enjoyed it so much more when I put in the effort to beat it "legit", and I enjoyed it a lot more, definitely one of my favourite games out there. Also, I commend you for making a 4 hour long video that kept me watching until the very end in one sitting!
yeah the first run of dkc 2 is brutal. Tbh i think its a super unbalanced game and is super overrated by the community. However once getting good enough to beat it without dying too much its a pretty fun time. Im glad i could keep your attention, 4 hours is a hella long time especially for a ranking video.
@@dripp_dropp i used save states in dkc 1 because it was my first time playing the series but then went to do dkc2 without save states pretty comfortably as i got used to how the game works i would say dkc 1 is way more unbalanced with its troll style levels that feel they give very cheap deaths while dkc2 feels way more fair and actually the players fault and not an offscreen enemy like most dkc 1 levels

go replay poison pond, you'll remember. And yes the reason i didn't go into too much detail was because the video was already insanely long. Generally i figured my least liked levels were alot of peoples least liked levels as well. Like i've never heard anything good about black ice battle, poison pond, tyrant twin, 6k, etc. In glad you enjoyed the video regardless though. Sunset shore just has so much detail that makes me love it so much, all the secrets, the little ant hill, the lighthouse beam shining when it turns on screen, the pirate ships that will soon be played on next world, lining up the banana rock, standing on the pedestal making the sunshine, breaking the rock monster barrier at the end, the mimics that are only in that level (until tropical freeze), etc.
i personally really like the first ramby level in dkcr BECAUSE you can rush through and feel impervious without it being too easy, and you can just jump at the right time so you dont have to wait at all. anyways great video! you're really funny❤❤❤
I see your point, but id rather just play any other rambi level in the game. The trees swaying like seesaws isn't really fun either. Its not a very memorable or special level other than having rambi, which is hidden underground anyways. Meaning you can completely miss him. Thank you for saying im funny 🫶
I just remember Poison Pond for one reason. Being a colorblind kid, who couldn't see the green fish out of the green background...I died so many times, had to memorize most of the enemy placements.
It’s strange how we can both love a series so much yet have such different opinions. I love water levels and especially that of DKC1, I like these slow paced levels where you really just need to learn patience and to listen to the music and see the beautiful atmosphere
croctopus is definitely one if the best looking levels in the game. The other water levels look good too besides poison pond. I just feel like the first games water levels is a spam A button simulator.

Interesting list… definitely quite different from what I have in mind for the best levels in the series. I would generally put many levels from DKC1 to the bottom of the list.

@@ecstaticwooper368 i think belcha is by far the best first boss of the games, I think hes simple but very fun. In the gba he sucks ass but on snes you have to jump and time your throw. Him not doing any damage to you and just slowly but surly pushing you in your grave is terrifying. It reminds me of crocomire from super metroid too which automatically makes him goated
Idk ive never been super crazy about it. I just really love being able to kill the moles by popping their balloons in mole patrol. The super huge gears at the end leave a lasting impression though, thats for sure!
@@dripp_dropp I do like mole patrol because it feels like the music is synced in with the level very well, it's just too short for me. I also do think the bat level would be my favorite if it wasn't for that ending part, it's kinda annoying.

First few levels could have used a few more actual arguments, I don’t even know what’s so particularly bad about poison pond other than it being a decently hard water level I guess. And yes, I‘ve beat the game.

After getting through the torture that is the last section of Elevator Antics, Poison Pond felt like a reward. I really don't get the hate, I found it pretty fun.
@@dripp_dropp See, now you've at least described it, that's a little more insightful. I guess if you're the type of player that wants to rush trough every level, which you seem to be, it goes against a lot of what you want out of a platformer. But for me, I don't mind playing a little slower and exploring for secrets, so Poison Pond is truly not much of an issue for me. It's basically just watch where the spikey thing swings and go inbetween at the right time.
@@geschnitztekiste4111i can enjoy a slower paced level too, but poison pond is just unfair. Theres alot of sections where an obstacle comes from off screen and you literatly cannot dodge it, you just have to remember its there. Especially the piranha room.
I just played through DKC 1 today and Poison Pond honestly isn't that bad. At the same time though I can't really think of a stage in the series that is worse than it, so I still agree with your placement.
Country series is so good. So good in fact, that I consider Tropical Freeze to be the blueprint on how to make a 2d platformer, it has more heart and soul than most other games.
Donkey Kong country Tropical Freeze is one of my favourite platformer games. Its visuals and gameplay are so good. My favourite level is busted buyou, it looks stunning in the silhouette and is so chill and relaxing. I can't wait to play returns when it gets ported to the switch as it was a childhood favourite for me

Great video mate! The DKC games have some of the finest platforming in gaming. The secret temple levels are absolute masterpieces. The sensation felt after beating Bopopolis can easily replace any drug.

Your explanations were entertaining lmao, but I don’t wanna spoil myself any further because I’ve never played a DK game. Is it worth starting with the original DKC1 or should I start with DKCR?
Definitely the first game. But don't force yourself to beat it if it's too hard. Dkc 1 can be super frustrating because you cant save whenever, but if your emulating it i would recommend save states. DKCR is a much easier game up to a point. You will get farther than the original but near the end of the game you might frustrated. Really I would just play them in order and stick to which ever one you like playing the most, because once you get around to beating one of them you can come back and beat the others. There really isn't any real reason to play them in a consistent order.
@@vacantile then don't get the collectibles. dkc 1 has no secret levels and dkc 2 and 3 have secret cheat codes to unlock secret levels without getting collectables. As for movement, I wouldn't say they control clunky but there is a big difference between the older games and the newer ones. I prefer newer movement because you can get some insane momentum, but the older games levels fit the movement quite well.
Amazing video🍌, Recently i was re-playing DKC Returns and i play for the first time the extra levels and if you some day make a a remake of this video because a DKC 6 or something like that you can include those 8 levels in the top.
@@dripp_dropp I think I've beaten the first one around 100 times. The second one I've beaten so many times I don't have a list for it cause I lost it, but I know that's my second most replayed. The third is the one I've played the least amount of times with 46. Returns I've replayed around 82 times. And with Tropical Freeze I've played it way too many times.

I watched the first 26 minutes of this video, and for the moment there are three opinions that I disagree with strongly. First, Web Woods is probably in my top 10 favorite DKC2 levels, I think it's really intense in a good way. Second, King of Cling isn't extraordinary or anything, but it doesn't deserve to be the second lowest ranked DKCR level. Third, I don't think the first honey level is the hardest one at all, and I think it's really fun too. Edit after 45 minutes: I don't understand why you dislike the waterfall aesthetic from DKC3. Maybe its music makes me biased, but I love it. Also, I love 7-5, it's actually one of my favorite levels in the factory. Something about being able to stand on platforms that you aren't really supposed to is cool.
king of cling is my least favorite level when i play returns normally and dont go for the k levels, its so boring and uninteresting. The first half is fine the 2nd half isn't. Web woods is almost an entire empty void with enemy spam, If you really like that idea of only using squitter thats fine, but I think its just a lazy level. Idk if you are going to finish the video but i rated krack shot way higher and mentioned i felt it was just a better web woods. The honey levels are just annoying and of the 3 i find it to definietly be the hardest. Parrot chute is barely a honey level, and rambis rumble has the rambi part at the end. The only thing that saves hornet hole is a secret animal buddy that 75% of players didnt find. I do really appreciate the well put comment though.

here ill break down why poison pond is so bad. Think of every good level you like in any game ever. Now reverse everything good about it and make it terrible. congratulations you made poison pond 😅. No seriously tho its the fact that the slowest level has the fastest obstacles. You literally can not beat this level on your first 5 tries. You have to die. Especially the fish room at the end. Its just not designed well. Im glad you enjoyed the video though reguardless 🫶

@@elrobrt1 DKCR is my favorite of the 5. Ive played it the most. But also, momentum rolling can skip past so many hard sections, especially with diddys jetpack. Its all about learning the roll off the ledge mega jump. Its a hard game in general, but once you learn how to play optimally its fairly easy. World 8 can still be a bitch though. And the temple levels are brutal.
I completely agree with you on klobber karange its definitely the hardest level (now i haven't done animal antics yet but i doubt it would be worse then this ) i tracked my deaths while playing dkc1 and 2 on 1 my total deaths was 144 2 was around 150 (not counting lost world) and this one level klobber karange i died around 110 times that's a whole run worth of deaths of the base game just for one level but after beating this i definitely am much better at the barrels that snow barrel blast scary anymore
no doubt. though not a hard bar to pass. Especially smw water levels. So ass to play. I do like the half water levels smb3 introduced though, with the big fish and the rising and lower water level. Other than that mario water levels suck.

Donkey Kong is my jam so it didn’t felt like a long time at all. In fact, it was a breeze! Mad respect for ranking all of them levels but what the hell were you smoking man😂 You had me laughing so many times don’t get me wrong. As a huge fan of the DKC series, damn I can't imagine just how much effort you put into this. I dunno if I'll actually be able to watch this whole thing but it is a pretty unique idea. I knew Poison Pond was gonna be the worst, lol. Couldn't agree more, its the only level I actively despise playing through every time I replay these games. im glad you liked it. As a dkc 1 speedrunner poison pond isnt that bad with the secret enguarde and shortcuts, but this list was based off the normal routes. In a normal run through of all these levels, pp is easily the worst
@@dripp_dropp I can't say I'm quite good enough at the games to be a speedrunner (despite having beat them many times before) so its very possible I just missed out on some shortcuts in my playthroughs. Poison Pond just kinda sucks in general tbh, I always find myself slowing down to a crawl since I've never been able to memorize where exactly the speeding fish are.
What makes Black Ice Battle even worse is that, despite the name, it doesn't even have a unique color scheme. At least Poison Pond has _that_ going for it… :P
I don’t think you really discussed the enemies or how the stages were unique to the franchise or what made them special. Like in poison pond u could’ve discussed the fact the it made sense because tires would be in a stage where the pond is poisoned. Or the fact that the balloons made sense to be in a fire stage where heat rises and u use the heat to rise. Balloon mechanics. I think you really just have your opinion on what u think about it. I think you did not AT ALL go by your criteria. I haven’t heard anything about how unique there were. I’m sorry and I support you wanting to do a video like this, but this isn’t a good video.

This may be an unpopular opinion but mountain mania is one of my favorite levels. Just the fact that you realize you can kill EVERYTHING with Rambi is one of the best feelings in tropical freeze

The fact that your 233th level, your most hated level of the series, is actualy one of my favorites, just tells us how much these games are great just in general. I really like the poisonous color palette, i think the theming is awesome, having spikes in the level just expresses how stressful the situation is for the kongs, all the whilst having fast fish ennemies telling us how stressed they are to be in this environement aswell. 🙏
the fish ennemies are aids, but at least i can laugh at them now whenever i play this horrendous level! Jokes aside I do think it is an interesting looking level but the unfair obstacles will always make me hate it. The slowest movement in the entire series has the fastest obstacles in the series, this is rather silly. I greatly appreciate the massive comment though. Unfortunately I see a black hole forming outside of my window.

Squitter is easily my favourite animal buddy in the whole series, especially because of the web platforms. And the backwards cannonball is super neat.

Yep, Squitter is the best animal buddy, and Web Woods is a masterpiece! Creating your own platforms in a platformer is always neat (See: Cloud Mario, Ice Beam shenanigans in Metroid, Tornado/Claw in Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest), and Squitter has some of the series' absolute best levels (Krack Shot Kroc and Hornet Hole are some other really awesome ones. Twin Tyrant Tussle is neat too, though Squitter is more about offense there than his platforming).

no i love using Squitter, he's fun to use and i never had trouble with the platforms. They shake when theyre about to break and also if you place more than 3 the first one goes away, using that i dont remember having much trouble (except for the coin being based on your timing on the goal
I loved the video. It was a very good experience to hear all your considerations about the levels, and even though there were some differences in preferences, I was able to understand why some levels were at the bottom of the list.
It was also very, very interesting to hear all this from someone who loves the franchise as much as I do, I loved hearing all the notes, I was like: "Wow, that's right!" and I kept a huge smile on my face as I listened. I could spend hours debating the setting, the environment, music, the details in the levels, and I'm sure you would understand everything and point out things that I wouldn't have even noticed.

I love this franchise and i appreciate that you took the time to appreciate every game and all of their amazing levels. I grew up on returns and it is underappreciated due to tropical freeze being an improvement in almost every way, so I'm happy someone showed how amazing its levels truly are.
Sunset shore is also my favorite donkey kong level because of its atmosphere, music, vibes and all the other small details (lining up the banana, lining up the sun, the ants, etc).

A fellow giga chad sunset shore enjoyer. Seriously though, its such an incredible level, IN THE FIRST WORLD OF THE FUCKING GAME. It being a secret level definitely adds to its charm, but would still be number 1 regardless. Returns catching stray bullets 24/7 always confused me because i never had any issue with it at all. The final world was a little mid but other than that its an incredible game. The bosses kinda suck too i guess. Glad you enjoyed all 4 hours 🫶
As a competitive DKC enthusiast since day 1 in 1994 (DKC2 is my favorite game of all time on any console) this was a fun watch despite the fact that I would’ve ranked a lot of it differently but that the beauty of opinion. FYI web woods was the first time a video game made me put the controller down. I was in 3rd grade and ditched the game for months until I returned, and destroyed it. It in fact is one of my favorite levels now, because I enjoy the masochistically hard levels in the trilogy 😂 cheers

It's not everyday I'll sit through a 4 hour video, but man I loved this from start to finish. There's just something great about hearing someone talk about something they very clearly are super passionate about. Plus, the masterpiece that is Sunset Shore playing in the background with that heartfelt end note was amazing. Used to watch my older siblings play 1+2 all the time as a kid and was obsessed! They all said 3 was lame and didn’t give it a chance. When I got a little older, I played them all, and did give 3 a chance. So glad I did! It has a lot of extra content and it has some unique mechanics.
I’ve played the first 3 more times than I can count, attempted Returns but didn’t get far, and am on the final boss of Tropical Freeze.
I wasn’t used to the controls in Returns, so I gave up, but I want to try again because I think I’m missing out on a great game! Also it took me a bit to get used to Tropical Freeze’s as well, but I’m glad I kept trying.
Anyway, this series is amazing and I hope we’ll see more DK in the future.
people who say 3 isnt that great are lying istg. Also theres a new port of returns coming to the switch so it might be worth grabbing that if the controls were that bad of an issue. Returns is easily my favorite of all 5 games. Thank you for such a kind and well written comment too 🫶

Great breakdown of every level in the series, DKC is one of my favorite of all time. I agree with a lot of your picks for DKCR. Definitely earned a sub. Knew that Irate Eight and Sawmill Thrill would be in the top 15 at least, I love Sawmill Thrill and the music god it's good
for real. The boat mechanic was super cool too. I wish the level came later in the game so it could have the switching sides mechanic like the beach mine-cart level.
As for the dkcr picks, thats not only my favorite in the series but my favorite game of all time. Im glad I got that one right!

well id say thats alot of people in general. The most hated levels in platformers are water and autoscrollers. Especially in a game series where dying over and over is common, retying over again on slow levels is beyond frustrating
Playing homecoming hijinx and passing by all the landmarks of return’s first world in the background is such a special experience

The modern games imo are a pretty insane leap ahead of the snes games. The snes games were really good, but when you get to DKCR it feels like the hardware finally catches up to what Donkey Kong Country really wanted to be all along.
I'm usually a retro game defender, but the DKC games are some of the few games that feel held back by being on the snes, in a way that something like Super Metroid or Link to the Past doesn't. The levels are just so much more vibrant and alive in Returns and Tropical Freeze, it does the premise justice in a way that wasn't possible on the super nintendo.
@@ohno5559 while i don't ENTIRELY agree, i see where you are coming from. In alot of ways I do share some of those thoughts, but theres a time and a place for the snes games as well. It really depends on my mood. Also the retro roll makes gameplay alot different. Momentum and movement make them play like 2 completely different series. Speaking of link to the past, im hoping we get a links awaking style remake of it, with the plastic toy look. Id really like that.

i recorded sessions in bulk, and going from game to game had complications. I had to do alot of tweaks and it still sounded kind of off, so i preferred it to be too quiet other than too loud. Hope this makes sense
I'm glad to find another person who struggled to beat DKC2 without save states their first time playing, I absolutely abused that feature for the whole game. I enjoyed it so much more when I put in the effort to beat it "legit", and I enjoyed it a lot more, definitely one of my favourite games out there. Also, I commend you for making a 4 hour long video that kept me watching until the very end in one sitting!
yeah the first run of dkc 2 is brutal. Tbh i think its a super unbalanced game and is super overrated by the community. However once getting good enough to beat it without dying too much its a pretty fun time. Im glad i could keep your attention, 4 hours is a hella long time especially for a ranking video.
@@dripp_dropp i used save states in dkc 1 because it was my first time playing the series but then went to do dkc2 without save states pretty comfortably as i got used to how the game works i would say dkc 1 is way more unbalanced with its troll style levels that feel they give very cheap deaths while dkc2 feels way more fair and actually the players fault and not an offscreen enemy like most dkc 1 levels

Also sunset shore is one of those weird levels where it’s not going to be a majority of peoples favorite, yet if someone tells you it’s your favorite level you immediately understand why. I guess it doesn’t care if people think it’s the best because it knows it’s the best, it’s chill like that….
go replay poison pond, you'll remember. And yes the reason i didn't go into too much detail was because the video was already insanely long. Generally i figured my least liked levels were alot of peoples least liked levels as well. Like i've never heard anything good about black ice battle, poison pond, tyrant twin, 6k, etc. In glad you enjoyed the video regardless though. Sunset shore just has so much detail that makes me love it so much, all the secrets, the little ant hill, the lighthouse beam shining when it turns on screen, the pirate ships that will soon be played on next world, lining up the banana rock, standing on the pedestal making the sunshine, breaking the rock monster barrier at the end, the mimics that are only in that level (until tropical freeze), etc.
Didn't expect sunset shore, but my God, you are right. The sheer beauty of this level makes it one of the best designed in the entire franchise.

I see your point, but id rather just play any other rambi level in the game. The trees swaying like seesaws isn't really fun either. Its not a very memorable or special level other than having rambi, which is hidden underground anyways. Meaning you can completely miss him. Thank you for saying im funny 🫶

It’s strange how we can both love a series so much yet have such different opinions. I love water levels and especially that of DKC1, I like these slow paced levels where you really just need to learn patience and to listen to the music and see the beautiful atmosphere
croctopus is definitely one if the best looking levels in the game. The other water levels look good too besides poison pond. I just feel like the first games water levels is a spam A button simulator.

The only boss in returns that is actually good is thugly it’s what the dkc rematches wanted to be, but the others suck especially the crabs, one of the worst bosses in the franchise by far

@@ecstaticwooper368 i think belcha is by far the best first boss of the games, I think hes simple but very fun. In the gba he sucks ass but on snes you have to jump and time your throw. Him not doing any damage to you and just slowly but surly pushing you in your grave is terrifying. It reminds me of crocomire from super metroid too which automatically makes him goated
Gear Getaway is actually my favorite rocket barrel level from returns.
Idk ive never been super crazy about it. I just really love being able to kill the moles by popping their balloons in mole patrol. The super huge gears at the end leave a lasting impression though, thats for sure!
@@dripp_dropp I do like mole patrol because it feels like the music is synced in with the level very well, it's just too short for me. I also do think the bat level would be my favorite if it wasn't for that ending part, it's kinda annoying.

After getting through the torture that is the last section of Elevator Antics, Poison Pond felt like a reward. I really don't get the hate, I found it pretty fun.

I guess if you're the type of player that wants to rush trough every level, which you seem to be, it goes against a lot of what you want out of a platformer. But for me, I don't mind playing a little slower and exploring for secrets, so Poison Pond is truly not much of an issue for me. It's basically just watch where the spikey thing swings and go inbetween at the right time.

Donkey Kong country Tropical Freeze is one of my favourite platformer games. Its visuals and gameplay are so good. My favourite level is busted buyou, it looks stunning in the silhouette and is so chill and relaxing. I can't wait to play returns when it gets ported to the switch as it was a childhood favourite for me

Great video mate! The DKC games have some of the finest platforming in gaming. The secret temple levels are absolute masterpieces. The sensation felt after beating Bopopolis can easily replace any drug.

Definitely the first game. But don't force yourself to beat it if it's too hard. Dkc 1 can be super frustrating because you cant save whenever, but if your emulating it i would recommend save states. DKCR is a much easier game up to a point. You will get farther than the original but near the end of the game you might frustrated. Really I would just play them in order and stick to which ever one you like playing the most, because once you get around to beating one of them you can come back and beat the others. There really isn't any real reason to play them in a consistent order.
@@dripp_dropp The main thing I’m worried about from the older games is a clunky movement system and bullshit hidden collectables
@@vacantile then don't get the collectibles. dkc 1 has no secret levels and dkc 2 and 3 have secret cheat codes to unlock secret levels without getting collectables. As for movement, I wouldn't say they control clunky but there is a big difference between the older games and the newer ones. I prefer newer movement because you can get some insane momentum, but the older games levels fit the movement quite well.

The second one I've beaten so many times I don't have a list for it cause I lost it, but I know that's my second most replayed.
The third is the one I've played the least amount of times with 46.
Returns I've replayed around 82 times.
And with Tropical Freeze I've played it way too many times.

I watched the first 26 minutes of this video, and for the moment there are three opinions that I disagree with strongly. First, Web Woods is probably in my top 10 favorite DKC2 levels, I think it's really intense in a good way. Second, King of Cling isn't extraordinary or anything, but it doesn't deserve to be the second lowest ranked DKCR level. Third, I don't think the first honey level is the hardest one at all, and I think it's really fun too.
Edit after 45 minutes: I don't understand why you dislike the waterfall aesthetic from DKC3. Maybe its music makes me biased, but I love it. Also, I love 7-5, it's actually one of my favorite levels in the factory. Something about being able to stand on platforms that you aren't really supposed to is cool.
king of cling is my least favorite level when i play returns normally and dont go for the k levels, its so boring and uninteresting. The first half is fine the 2nd half isn't. Web woods is almost an entire empty void with enemy spam, If you really like that idea of only using squitter thats fine, but I think its just a lazy level. Idk if you are going to finish the video but i rated krack shot way higher and mentioned i felt it was just a better web woods. The honey levels are just annoying and of the 3 i find it to definietly be the hardest. Parrot chute is barely a honey level, and rambis rumble has the rambi part at the end. The only thing that saves hornet hole is a secret animal buddy that 75% of players didnt find. I do really appreciate the well put comment though.

@@elrobrt1 DKCR is my favorite of the 5. Ive played it the most. But also, momentum rolling can skip past so many hard sections, especially with diddys jetpack. Its all about learning the roll off the ledge mega jump. Its a hard game in general, but once you learn how to play optimally its fairly easy. World 8 can still be a bitch though. And the temple levels are brutal.
Snow barrel blast was life changing for me as a kid, seeing the blizzard approaching, paired with the music was mind blowing

I completely agree with you on klobber karange its definitely the hardest level (now i haven't done animal antics yet but i doubt it would be worse then this ) i tracked my deaths while playing dkc1 and 2 on 1 my total deaths was 144 2 was around 150 (not counting lost world) and this one level klobber karange i died around 110 times that's a whole run worth of deaths of the base game just for one level but after beating this i definitely am much better at the barrels that snow barrel blast scary anymore
yeah everyone says animal antics is harder, but klobber is just so much harder by a long shot imo.

I generally don't like water levels in DKC, but atleast almost all of them are better than Super Mario water levels.
no doubt. though not a hard bar to pass. Especially smw water levels. So ass to play. I do like the half water levels smb3 introduced though, with the big fish and the rising and lower water level. Other than that mario water levels suck.

As a huge fan of the DKC series, damn I can't imagine just how much effort you put into this. I dunno if I'll actually be able to watch this whole thing but it is a pretty unique idea.
I knew Poison Pond was gonna be the worst, lol. Couldn't agree more, its the only level I actively despise playing through every time I replay these games. I agree with a lot of your picks here honestly. Also really glad to see someone appreciates Floodlit Fish.
im glad you liked it. As a dkc 1 speedrunner poison pond isnt that bad with the secret enguarde and shortcuts, but this list was based off the normal routes. In a normal run through of all these levels, pp is easily the worst

I can't say I'm quite good enough at the games to be a speedrunner (despite having beat them many times before) so its very possible I just missed out on some shortcuts in my playthroughs. Poison Pond just kinda sucks in general tbh, I always find myself slowing down to a crawl since I've never been able to memorize where exactly the speeding fish are.
What makes Black Ice Battle even worse is that, despite the name, it doesn't even have a unique color scheme. At least Poison Pond has _that_ going for it… :P

I don’t think you really discussed the enemies or how the stages were unique to the franchise or what made them special. Like in poison pond u could’ve discussed the fact the it made sense because tires would be in a stage where the pond is poisoned. Or the fact that the balloons made sense to be in a fire stage where heat rises and u use the heat to rise. Balloon mechanics. I think you really just have your opinion on what u think about it. I think you did not AT ALL go by your criteria. I haven’t heard anything about how unique there were. I’m sorry and I support you wanting to do a video like this, but this isn’t a good video.
but they aren't unique in poison pond because they in different levels other than poison pond 🤯🤯🤯🤯. I definietly did follow my criteria. How well a level flows and is fun was the most important thing. And red hot ride doesn't flow at all.
The fact that most of the higher rankings are from the newer games just goes to show how much care Retro Studios put into the series
Factual. Returns is my favorite dk game, hopefully it wasn't too obvious as i didn't want to have a bias. But they did put alot of damn good effort into them.

@@dripp_dropp I’ve really only played tropical freeze so I don’t really have a preference. I thought the bosses in that game were pretty good though although I did find the final boss to be kind of anti climactic

This may be an unpopular opinion but mountain mania is one of my favorite levels. Just the fact that you realize you can kill EVERYTHING with Rambi is one of the best feelings in tropical freeze

thats kind of the vibe ive been going for, ive gotten a couple comments saying i need to change this and that and do this differently and that differently. Better thumbnails for more clicks more detailed listing information so a new viewer will stay attentive so on and so forth. But im a passionate fan making videos for other passionate fans. I dont really give a damn about "optimizing my videos" that just sounds so soulless. Sucks to see the way youtube fell off. Im glad you enjoyed it 🫶

I remember when dream popped off and thinking it was because he loved Minecraft and was a good player, only to find out he read books on how to optimize youtube and it worked. Idk whats more sad people buying and reading those books or people writing and selling them. But if it works it works i suppose, don't hate the player hate the game
