This project is my take on how Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2002) could look if brought to modern technology. My goal is to preserve the atmosphere and spirit of the original game so that it still feels like a product of its time, but with enhancements in graphics, lighting, animations, and controls. Here’s what I’ve done: Retained the original models and level design to keep the nostalgic feel. Added modern technologies such as lumen, PBR textures, and improved animations to make the game more visually appealing and enjoyable for today’s audience. This is not a full remake, where everything is created from scratch, but it’s also more than just a remaster. It’s a nostalgic reimagining with respect for the classic. I hope you enjoy it! This project is non-commercial and unofficial. It is not intended for profit or sale. It is a fan-made tribute to the original game, created purely for entertainment and educational purposes.
I really miss this kind of games. I hope one day big corps will understand that single player adventure games with good story, interesting gameplay and bold concept are really good. And sometimes we don’t need an open world or soft lock with shit ton of boring side quests before you can continue main story.
Exactly. Sometimes the best one is just one single experience, and if it's good, it will be repeatedly played. These days most decision makers are finance bros that needs to milk the game till they can't anymore with microtransactions-filled multiplayer games.
The algorithm's delivered a treat today! This reminds me of the Simpsons Hit & Run UE5 remake that went viral. I can see this being incredible in a year's time. Keep at it!

@@Hp1rue Я и сам разбираюсь в этом, правда на Unity, но за такую работу браться не хочу, очень уж большой проект. Но верю в то, что кто-то в итоге сделает годный ремейк, и даже завезёт туда редактор уровней, чтобы комьюнити могло развивать фандом дальше. В качестве примера годного ремейка могу привести переделку старой игры Lego Rock Raiders под названием Manic Miners. Мало того, игра на UE4, красочная и оптимизированная, так ещё и с редактором уровней.
@@Hp1rue For this you need 3DS Max (I used 2016 version) with the plugin ActorX. Lets you load models and anims from UE1 games like Philosophers Stone/Chamber of Secrets. Then you save the whole thing as FBX and import to UE5.

Looks amazing, especially harrys animations. One nitpick you said frog is ready but as i remember when you approach it it tries to run away from you, and here it doesnt care.
in hp1, the frog does not move at all. and in the sequel, the frog is already running away from you. I haven't decided what's best yet, so for now it's like this.

Wrote a converter which read everything from their data file and placed dynamic objects at the correct location. Hope you get a long with all of that and after that also update the look of all the assets. This would be awesome. If there is something on the coding side you need help with, maybe I could help you out here and there :D

This will be so cool with the particle effects and set dressing. It’s not really doable but I can imagine it looking amazing with higher poly assets and higher res hand painted textures
@@Xenomorpheus709 the effects of the particles will be. And the resolution of the textures will be 4 times higher. but there will be more polygons only where it is really needed. on trees, for example. otherwise, the plans are to move everything the way it was, correcting flaws and no more.

I spent a long time choosing the scale of the map relative to Harry and the props and made it 1 in 1 as in the original. Maybe in the new videos I'll show it in comparison with the original Gameplay.
Looks amazing already. I would recommend to remove any sort of reflectivity or specularity from the materials on the models since the original Materials basically only consisted of pure color information. Or you could actually try to generate normal maps and all that fancy stuff. In any case lots of love for keeping this game alive.
@@RyKeUp that's right, all my materials are as matte as possible except for stone floors. Yes, I tried to generate normal maps using Photoshop on test models, it looks amazing. But I've put this topic aside for later.
Very cool, it seems that in order for the textures on objects to be of normal color, some constant should be added to the texture parameters (I don't remember which one). It would be great to make the camera a little further and higher, then it will be even better. If suddenly you have the opportunity to share obj maps on models-resource, there are no maps for HP1. Interesting project, it will be great if a remake works. Good luck.
This looks so good. I've always wondered what the possibilities are of modding the HP 1/2/3 PC games into being truly open world? It seems like this could be a path forward for this. Are you planning to remake the whole game? I think a cool longterm goal could be to recreate further installments of the franchise in the artstyle of the first three games. With the use of audio from the existing games, and custom assets, it would be a massive task but definitely possible!
@@SamJLance You can't have a totally open world in the first Harry Potter game because the levels are all one-way. But since you can move between them without loading screens, it kind of feels like an open world

maybe later. I'm currently at the stage of recreating all the mechanics from the game on my own. the level was converted with a single mesh as it is from the original and the topology there is just terrible, so everything needs to be redone anyway.

I really loved the first 2 HP games on PC. It’s a shame they never re-released them. I’d assume they are quite hard to get running on modern PC:s. I still have the Chamber of Secrets physical copy but haven’t tried to get it running.
I probably won't do direct PBR materials. But reflections and normal maps are in the plans. Also, the floor with "puddles" showed itself very cool in the tests. According to the canon, the floor at Hogwarts is always perfectly clean and shiny.

one of the most beloved franchise and no one bothers to port them officially to modern consoles, so people can actually play them. The older PC versions are simply unplayable for many ;( If only we get all the PS versions on the Switch and the PC versions enhanced to modern PC.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the original animations out of the game, so I use the game animation sample as a basis for walking and jumping. Casting spells and animations for dialogues will either take similar ones or make my own. In another video, I demonstrate the work of AI gnomes, there are only my Animations.
Se ve genial, pero creo que debido a como están las texturas y la carga poligonal de todos los elementos, no queda muy bien. Tome una captura y le aplique un efecto mosaico de 10px usando Photoshop y creo que queda mejor si se le añade un filtro de pixelado a como está el juego ahora en esta version, además de que ayudaría a preservar más ese espíritu original que deseas mantener.

Lo de antes solo era una sugerencia ya que no sé hasta dónde planees llevar esto y ya que has mencionado lo de la iluminación que igual es algo que hace parte de los apartados gráficos, yo no haría muchos ajustes por ese lado ya que esta es la que transmite la mayor parte de esa parte original, siempre que enseñan remakes de juegos, nunca termina de gustarme por ese mismo tipo de cambios, debido a que el color transmite ciertas sensaciones, al modificar la iluminación se pierde mucho de eso, te lo dejo como apunte.

Hot take: All you have to do is probably just increasing the details on all Human characters (and animals or monsters) but leave every stationary objects as is without increasing their details (except maybe upping the texture resolution a bit)

Se ve genial, pero creo que debido a como están las texturas y la carga poligonal de todos los elementos, no queda muy bien.
Tome una captura y le aplique un efecto mosaico de 10px usando Photoshop y creo que queda mejor si se le añade un filtro de pixelado a como está el juego ahora en esta version, además de que ayudaría a preservar más ese espíritu original que deseas mantener.

@ Bueno pues es normal no, después de todo estas llevando esto a un nuevo motor grafico, imposible no hablar de ello, pero entiendo, supongo que planearas implementar mecánicas nuevas y mejorar la jugabilidad en diferentes aspectos, siendo honesto, no esperes que la gente común hable mucho de eso, el mundo de la programación es complicado.
Lo de antes solo era una sugerencia ya que no sé hasta dónde planees llevar esto y ya que has mencionado lo de la iluminación que igual es algo que hace parte de los apartados gráficos, yo no haría muchos ajustes por ese lado ya que esta es la que transmite la mayor parte de esa parte original, siempre que enseñan remakes de juegos, nunca termina de gustarme por ese mismo tipo de cambios, debido a que el color transmite ciertas sensaciones, al modificar la iluminación se pierde mucho de eso, te lo dejo como apunte.

All you have to do is probably just increasing the details on all Human characters (and animals or monsters) but leave every stationary objects as is without increasing their details (except maybe upping the texture resolution a bit)
