    Bandai please, do NOT try to price match these minis to complete with GW. Your game will fail.
    If I can buy and build an 8 inch, articulated and color molded Gunpla for the cost of ~5 40k minis, in grey plastic, I should be able to build the equivalent of a full GW ARMY for the cost of a Perfect Grade.
    You have better technology and production capacity than GW, what you don't have is the same amount of brand recognition in the west. Despite how popular Gundam has gotten in recent years.
    Play into your strengths and succeed. Play GWs game and this will crash and burn like G-EVO

      @franciscoduarteauthor the problem is the complexity and balance, in this class of low level complexity of games, balance tend to be bad, so most wargamers don't gonna get in to the game beyond the novelty, Bandai have 0 experience in this class of games

    I think the main deciding factor of if this game lives or dies is how well Bandai can keep their ear to the ground and really listen to the community. They need good community managers for every main region. I also think if this game becomes a hit, it could hurt GW's future growth. They're going to catch all the people who bounce off of the high cost of entry for 40k. Even KillTeam requires that you either magnetize some of your minis or buy a second $55-$60 box. If it's like BattleTech where you only need $30-$40 bucks for a team, they're going to nab GW's future potential customers.

    I don't think GW will get ruined by Bandi's new miniature game, but I think Bandi in some ways will hurt GW. Bandi is a much larger company and has a larger catalog of model kits, and products line. Hell, they beat GW in the entertainment side of things back in the late 70's and early 80's.

    Okay, so scale wise, what we are seeing is that the Ships are Map Scale. The Hex grid, much like Classic BattleTech, represents "sectors" of space. The Mobile Suit minis are not in actual scale with the map, or they would be tiny (like 6mm infantry tiny), but are still small enough to fill the hex space that they are effectively in control of.
    As for the idea of any game being a "Warhammer Killer" that just plain isn't how it works, the only thing that can kill Warhammer is Warhammer.

    I REALLY hope that it is a huge hit, really accessible and well made, with models that are easily available to get your hands on. But what I foresee, given the history of card games about gundam, and Bandai's proclivity to drop its tabletop products on a whim, is that the sets everyone wants will be a pain in the butt to find online because not enough were made, the rules will be overly complex to the point that you're flexing your math skills to be any good at it OR the rules will be so lackluster that you won't FEEL a difference between fielding Wing Zero or a Zaku. And the game will be out of print before all the models that we saw in the commercial and showcase were officially sold in stores.

    • @Chozo_hybrid

Depending on how well this does, we’ll probably see some level of response in the form of a side game like they did with titanicus or some new model maybe. I know that sounds weird, but GW often puts out a new side game or revamps an old one, in order to compete in a different market against.

    X-wing was about as beginner friendly as you could get. Games lasted about 20-45 minutes on average, all the models came pre-painted, and a $50 starter set and a couple of $15 ships were all you needed to get started.

    I'm just hoping it's affordable, or at least you can build an army or so of Mass Production Suits, and main Units like say have 3 or so Gundams, while being backed up by 10 or so GMs for a starter, if not have it mix and match where you get GMs, Gundam, Guncannon, and Guntank mixed in, but it doesn't cost as much as what a basic kit for Warhammer can cost you (and if they choose to do individual suits for sale, they better cost at least $10 USD or below for Gundams or Captain Zeon Units). The only way I see this failing is if Bandai itself becomes it's own enemy when it comes to distribution, pricing, and variety.

    Also unfortunately Battletech in general is the closest comparison. Its cheap and easy to get into, 45 dollars for the box set gets you everything you need to play the game in several different ways. The models are preassembled too which is a severely underrated aspect for just picking up a wargame. Additionally expanding the variety of the game only costs like 20-30 dollars per Mech pack or per Map pack.
    There's also Alpha Strike, which can be played with a 60-80 dollar kit that includes enough to play several different factions with very little effort or setup. I mean shit I have taught people how to play 90% of the game in 30 minutes at parties. The main downside is that Neoprene Maps are much more expensive as an investment compared to Battletech Maps being 30 dollars for multiple sets of WILDLY different terrain.

    I just wish they gave support for the existing model lines. Imagine large scale battles akin to the "titan" room scale seen in some official Warhammer 40K venues but with perfect grade kits. I'm not asking for HG be the standard but for the option to do it. Plus it would be fun if for a proper RPG based on the feedback of Gundam Assemble we have the ability to use Gunpla as the rpg mech tokens.

    Its actually a brilliant move from Bandai. A lot of W40K content creators have been posting videos on building their first Gunpla models. They all talk of the value they get from Bandai compared to GW. I love both W40K(minis) and Gundam. I will be buying some of these minis even if I don't ever play the tabletop. Bandai already sells 2" gundam figures in gashapon machines. But the minis from the Assemble line seem to have very sharp details and more dynamic poses. I personally hope they bring Gundam EX-S and the Deepstriker. Looking forward to Zaku Zulus and Zaku Geara variants.

    The game has massive problems out the gate by not being faction based. From what the starter sets seem to imply, there will be no difference between one year war units and, say, Ad Stella timeline units. So a Zaku I would be on equal footing with the Gundam Aerial. I didn’t see anything to imply a points system. Immersion ruined out the gate. I really hope they just dropped random models for the announcements and will push it more towards the Warhammer style rules to make it an actual interesting game rather than a risk variant with funky models. Also as for making a game with the existing models, people do play Gundam Skirmish still. Some people glue up their models just for that. I’m also very cynical about the success of this game. To me, the multiverse route decision they went with tells me they didn’t really take this seriously and instead aim for a sale boost on launch and then probably leave it to die like the metaverse, GunEvo and so on and so forth. I’m sad to say it might just be dead on arrival as a tabletop and if it stays alive it’ll be more of a mini-gunpla thing like the existing Artifact models
    Also my wishlist is just literally every Zeon MS, from OYW to Mars Neo Zeon. Not biased.

      I mean Gundam Evolution did this too with the cross Multiverse the card game is doing it also how can the zaku one go up against the Wing Zero you kind of have to suspend your disbelief and immersion with these kind of things eventually as more sets come out you could probably just make it purely faction based once we have enough models from a certain timeline but for the Mass Appeal I get why they didn't just start with the universal Century only timeline for the first couple years or something like that

    • @Herr_Gamer
      @Herr_Gamer 9 днів тому +1

      @@sakidickerson I’d like to remind you GunEvo was also a shortlived cheap cashgrab. I’m very cynical to any new Gundam project that seems unfocused and I’ve yet to really be wrong in that. The mass appeal is good on paper, but it kills the longevity of a thing like this. You won’t have any fandriven communities that gather around their favourite factions and instead all you get is some diehards trying to keep the game alive, just as with Gundam Skirmish these days. The entire project, reveal and presentation feel very much like an out of touch Bandai executive heard of Warhammer or Battletech through their grandchild and said «do that, but change it a little». It does in no way seem like a project anyone at Bandai actually wanted to bring to life. The idea that «you just have to suspend disbelief with these things» is ridiculous when things like Warhammer, Battletech, Star Wars, LOTR, and many many more tabletop miniature wargames exist and all follow a very simple faction model. Call me a downer, but this entire thing screams dead within months. As for the cardgame, they haven’t even been clear about whether or not it’ll have interplay with the tabletop. It seems like two teams of headless chickens trying to figure out advertising.

    • @sakidickerson
      @sakidickerson 9 днів тому +1

      @Herr_Gamer you're valid I totally get you and I agree Bandai has a bad history with not supporting these kinds of things long enough to see them thrive and leaving the fan base hanging. I just hope with enough support down the line we'll be able to have different formats maybe for mixed universes and one they appeals to purists. I still think it's better this way though. Imagine if you didn't care about wing or 00 at all but you had to wait years for them to exhaust those lines before even touching UC

    • @Herr_Gamer
      @Herr_Gamer 9 днів тому

      @@sakidickerson I get that, it’s an issue that has come about thanks to the strangeness of Gundam as a series lf multiple timelines. I’m by no means an AU hater (besides Seed) but it would make sense to me if they’d still kept it more restrained than just throwing everything on the board at once. At least within the starter sets they have announced. It irks me just as much to see the Wing Gundam together with a Zaku I as it does to see the RX-78 with the Unicorm. I’d be less worried if they started out with One Year War minis for the UC and Operation Meteor minis for Wing, but they chose to pick and choose from all points of all timelines. It could be salvaged but I for one am not interested in buying a sleeves x neo zeon x zeon mashup pack. They seem to treat the selection like a cardgame pack even if it isn’t randomized
