  • Part 28 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. After deboarding the 16 hour ferry from Newfoundland, we drove from North Sydney to Cape Breton Island. We then took two days to enjoy the magnificent ocean views while driving the World Famous Cabot Trail!

    I've been reminiscing about trips my family and I made to Nova Scotia in the 90's. We were lucky enough to enjoy NS and particularly Cape Breton for many years vacations. Your video brought me back to the Cabot Trail vividly. It is such an amazing place in so many ways. I hope your experiences there were all good and you took away many wonderful memories. Thank you for this video which I thoroughly enjoyed!

    Poor Paula! I'm guessing that driving helped her a bit in controlling the anxiety. Thank you Paula! It was lovely seeing it from my chair. Those exhaust pipes have left skin souveniers for quite a few of us. :-)

    I just did the CT this past August, in my 32 year old car in 32°C heat. There was a lot of road construction going on then, which meant dust and windows up, AC on, very slow speeds with limited airflow through the radiator. Perfect storm to test on the car's cooling system. No boiling though, managed to get pulled over and let it cool before any drama happened. That road is brutal, yet gorgeous at the same time.

    Looks like you are having a great trip. This year we managed to hit all 10 provinces as well as The Yukon. Cape Breton is special - we ended our wanders for 2017 chasing up and down Cape Breton attending the Celtic Colours International Festival for the second year running. We will have to check out the Hide Away Campground - looks nice. At least you were able to trim below 20 feet - my Roadtrek is 20.5. Not that bad on the Port aux Basques ferry but still a lot extra for 6 inches.

    The first time on the Cabot trail we just drove it. The next time I did a little more research. At 16:58 - 17:14 the ridge on the right is the Skyline Trail en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyline_Trail_%28Cape_Breton_Highlands_National_Park%29 worth the walk. Work it out so you have nice weather and bring water and food. Enjoy the height with your feet firmly on the ground. Great driving Paula I know how steep those roads are.

    Well again awesome!! Thanks for sharing. Happy anniversary both of them, 1 year in the van how many married? I knew as soon as Paula was in that shot thumbs up sssuurre!! :) the road was high and bad. When you look up tense / fear that picture is what you see !! My wife is scared of heights funny thing she insists on driving because I'm not, doesn't trust me I guess. Have done the same burn to my nose right on the bridge seemed to take forever to heal came up with all sorts of different stories how it happened to keep it interesting :) Canada National Parks have a yearly pass. Knowing that Paula absolutely hates heights.... Why would you make her drive? Nothing more dangerous than a nervous driver behind the wheel... Add a 100' drop off a cliff and you've got yourself a hell of a predicament....

    • @BackToReality
      @BackToReality  8 років тому +1

      +Jeff Dale
      Fair question Jeff, however, I certainly didn't "make" Paula do all the driving. In those types of situations, she actually finds it much less stressful to be in control of the vehicle herself. It forces her to look ahead at the road, instead of out over the cliffs. Plus, since I like to do a lot of looking around, she tends to fear that my preoccupation with the scenery would result in an even greater risk of accident, had I been driving. Finally, I actually did drive some of the more scary sections, but we don't have any video of that, because Paula was too busy covering her eyes to be able to film it. lol.
