Love me some sketch up with Brian voiceover.... takes me back to the days of watching Bob Ross
That's an excellent compliment, sir! Love me some Bob Ross. We're gonna throw some happy little bales in there.
Love how you are building the house and with bails of straw . Your home should keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer. A great way to build a cheaper home instead of homes built with cement and wood . Love your home . That way you used a little bit of wood .
Thanks, that's the idea! 👍
Solid plan Brian!✊
Thanks, guys! You keep inspiring! 👍
hi i dont to be smarter just another view to consider do away with hallway enlarge bedroom for closet and washer and dryer for bathroom you build one adobe wall instead of two hallway move each room door to open to main space, loved the video it explained so much ty tom
Interesting thoughts, Tom. Essentially absorbing storage area into each of those rooms. That's something I would consider. We still have time to make some of those choices, as they are somewhat independent from the shell. Appreciate the input! I think I might like that idea.
Nice combination of graphics and explanation!
Thanks, David!
By eyeballing, I’m assuming that dummy buck in the west wall is centered. Just a thought, you could slide your bedroom wall over to the center as well. You should still have plenty of hall space and it would enlarge your bedroom as well. But the main benefit would be that the center beam could be smaller because of a shorter span. Great layout and diagram. Thanks.
That’s a valid point, Alan, and we probably will! One catch, however is the timing. We don’t really plan to do the interior walls until later, so I still have to span the entire length with a beam to put the rafters up. We do plan on “hiding” one of the support posts within that bedroom wall, though. Just seems to make sense. Thanks!
Nicely explained Brian. I learned some stuff. Very well laid out. I hope you guys progress nicely on the build!
Me and you both Don! ❤️😊
Thanks, Don! Just about to start stacking. Gotta have a plan to cover up for the rain. ☔️
Awesome!
Thanks, Brad!
Its like playing with Lego... :DD
Kind of! Also like Gremlins, as we can't get them wet!
Very exciting, and I love all the thought (and hard work,) you two have put into it so far, from building up the base with tires to creating the wooden structure, to using gravel as the capillary barrier. Looking at your design, it seems like it will be really nice with all that light in the kitchen … just one question: will you have enough space for cabinets?
We're kind of on the fence about "traditional" cabinets. May do more of an open shelf concept or store things more in free standing cupboards. I'm not a big fan of hanging cabinets, and it does take some planning in straw bale, so I'm trying to think of alternatives. Fair point, though!
Hi Brian/Pam, since you have the box beams on top and bottom to use as securing points, are you going to finish the inside face of the outer walls with drywall, paneling, or some type of cobb coating for a "smooth" finish? Side note, Thanks again for your time and info last week, its going to be a big help!
Hey, Rob. The plan right now is to go with an earthen plaster inside and out. We may take advantage of the framing around the windows to do some sort of accent material like wood, metal, or something else, but we haven't decided yet. It was great to meet you last week, and it sounds like you have a pretty solid plan in place. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.
i would do that 'dummy buck' in 4x4's or more if there is going to be a beam
It's a tough call. It really shouldn't be necessary at all, as the bales are intended to support the weight. My brain just can't take that wall being different than the others. 🤷♂️
i'm interested how an internal wall will grow from the floor and also attach to the outer wall
It may sound crazy, but I'm not planning on doing much to tie them together. That could be a mistake, but I'm hoping that if I just earthen plaster the joint between the two that the worst I'll have to worry about is covering cracks from time to time at the seams. I suppose I could use some sort of dowel or rebar sticking out of the bales to connect to the interior walls, also.
@@MidlifePrices i think that's most flexible. after u find out ur walls are in the wrong place, u take it down and build another
@@bavondale Totally! 😉
I helped bend the rebar with my bare hands
Insert 6 million dollar man sound effect here… 🤣
