Changing the battery which is normally a 5 minutes job is a nightmare on this car. Don't get me started with timing belt either. .
You and I are a dying breed Sam, we hate both Auto Start Stop and those push button gear shifters!
same
This is the first review that I've seen where the reviewer actually points out the difference in the wheels/tires across trims. I own a Passport TS and get a little annoyed when reviewers say all of the PP trims are the same for off roading. While that is mostly true tires do make a difference. Excellent review!
TS tires are not off-road tires. It’s a highway tire that looks off-road. Faux off-road tires. They are just all seasons. Only difference is 18’s vs 20’s for other trims.
@@ryanb8736 . Yes, that was my point. Smaller or 18inch rims are better for light off-roading. I didn't say the tires were all terrain, but your point is well taken.
I absolutely love it...!!! I just hope that future iterations of this new model. Particularly the EX-L and up trims allow people to choose the grey leather option on the sonic grey pearl exterior color. For right now from what i've researched only being able to choose from 3 color options; dark blue, silver, and white to get the grey interior leather is VERY limiting. And i think the pairing of grey interior leather with the exterior sonic grey pearl color would be stunning. Having just black too choose from is VERY VERY drab for an interior color option. I also think the grey leather would look stunning on the Trailsport with the orange contrast stitching and badging. It's the main reason i would choose an EX-L over a Trailsport as i simply do not like an all black interior. And i'd bet A LOT of folks would agree with me on that. Also, Honda needs to offer better options on the EX-L & Elite trims for tire choices. Having just 20in tires with the SUPER awful Continentals is ridiculous. I've read over at the Honda forums that if you want you can go from the OEM 265/45/50 to a 275/45/50 and that will give you a bit more sidewall for blazing non paved trail fire roads etc...And you can still keep your stock OE M rims. But most of all that opens you up too better and more tire choices. Such as an A/T tire like the General Grabber AT3 or the Firestone Destination LE3's. However, hopefully Honda will make these changes themselves so consumers don't have too. It's rather ridiculous of Honda to have a model labeled "Trailsport" but only make it "cosmetically appealing". And really no different then an EX-L or Elite trim. Considering they ALL use the same I-VTM4 AWD system. You can't "off road" Honda on 20in tires. So either use 18in tires for every model Passport. Or pick a different 20in tire size to broaden peoples choices. It's really not that difficult...(g) So for 2023 please make these changes Honda...!!! Thank you.
I agree. More options, the better. However, I disagree with your stance on the all black interior. I love it.
What Honda did here is they are using the same front clip from the new Ridgeline to update this Passport.
love washboard tests
👍👍👍👍👍Great reviews as always
How did you find the road noise and wind noise compared to the competition? You mentioned that the wind noise was higher than the road noise. I know that the TrailSport doesn’t have acoustic side windows like the Elite.
For the same cost of the 4Runner it’s missing even the basic items for life occasionally off the tarmac.
Why not fit real skid plates, it’s a really nice SUV very nice inside and you could probably sleep in it, making it perfect for weekend getaways, why not offer it with adjustable dampening like the old Acura legend taught on the road and floaty off.
Nice review 👍
Seems like a great buy used but for 4Runner money you get a 4Runner. This is coming from a Honda boy btw
Agreed, the Honda is a capable AWD but the 4Runner is a very capable 4WD, the transfer case makes all the difference.
Get the 4Runner. It’s a real off-road vehicle. It will last longer and hold value better. Yes it’s really old, but it’s a real off-road vehicle.
Most people are trading these passports in for 4Runners. They realized it’s not meant for off roads.
I got 26.9 mpg high way averages speed at 65-80 on the last 4000 miles trip it's pretty good .just hating on auto idling
He had Baby Got Back on the radio!🤣🤣🤣
Please confirm that the high beam headlights have been changed to halogen for 2022.
3:08 Sam, did you notice the hand shadow puppets that you were making on the doors? It’s awesome and I loved 🥰 them!
LOL 😂 OMG you're right! That's awesome.
JurassicPark version.
@@ryanb8736 Actually looks like they have huge boners! Thank you Ryan
Surprised that you had interior rattling. I like the Passport. Having 18" wheels is much better and should be on all Passport trims.
AGREED...!!! You CANNOT offroad with 20in tires. And don't tell me Honda didn't know that going into this new rebuild. Because you have the EXACT same I-VTM4 in ALL Passport trims. That had better SERIOUSLY up the "anty" so to speak with this new Trailsport. If they want it to contend with other off roaders.
@@tomtalker2000 they’re 18” wheels genius.
On right roads, the suspension makes a lot of noise. Especially in the cold weather.
Coming from an Audi SQ5 which was precise and tight, the Passport is very loud with rattles on bumpy roads.
Plus it’s engine, as cool as it sounds, is very underpowered. You can hear it working extremely hard with no turbos. It lacks power big time.
Transmission shifts very slow and lazy.
Love the room inside though. Very spacious. I wish it had more power and a better transmission.
So do I buy a 2023 telluride or passport? I am a sales rep, drive alot (need reliability) and live in my car. Please help. I appreciate your videos!
At the end of the video you said the passport was a “front wheel drive oriented vehicle…” while standing right next to the bumper that says “AWD.”
The passport certainly is not the off roader that the forerunner is, but it is all wheel drive. There isn’t anything front wheel drive oriented about it. And I after owning a pre owned one for about a month now as my daily driver I can say Honda has succeeded in making the passport a true SUV and not just a car in an SUV costume.
Finally, at the end you also disregard the passport’s towing capacity in favor of the Toyota forerunner. Just so your audience knows, the 2022 Honda Passport Trailsport (what you reviewed) is rated to tow 5,000 lbs. the 2023 Toyota Forerunner is rated to tow… 5,000 lbs. Sam also doesn’t seem to keen on how quick this SUV is… it goes 0-60 in under 7 seconds (around 6.5 seconds). I’m not sure how quick you expect your SUV to be but that is considered very quick for an SUV amongst people in the industry.
Worst review I’ve seen on this vehicle in particular with the absolute minimum effort put into the homework (for lack of a better word). I give this review a 2/5 stars.
For anyone looking at this vehicle it is missing some luxury features that come standard on other similarly priced vehicles (heated steering wheel being my most missed feature) but is overall a solid SUV. That being said, it is not the off roader that the forerunner is. But if what you want is a safe, reliable, and powerful SUV for you and your family then this a great purchase. For the more adventurous I would probably wait (Honda has said they will include more off roaming features in future renditions) or look elsewhere.
Front-wheel drive oriented means it is FWD biased. It has a transverse mounted engine and operates with most of its power, most of the time going only to the front wheels. Only in AWD mode(s) does power go to the rear wheels and only up to 50%.
@@TestDrivenTV I stand corrected on that point. Thank you
It has a heated steering wheel.
How much bigger then the Subaru Forester?
this is a lot bigger than a Subaru Forester
I wish there was a laugh button.
Ford Maverick 64k views.
Any other cars - 1k views.
We know who is the winner.
LOL, I have nothing against the Maverick, but they're two completely different vehicles in completely different segments.
Description of a suv having chest hair was really odd. Never heard that before.
It is quick...come on. Car driver 6 sec. O-60
So… allegro non troppo?
Kia and Hyundai is a better brand for today. They give you a lot more for your money. Plus you get 100k mile warranty.
This is not an off-road vehicle and never should have been marketed as one. It’s slow and underpowered with no turbo.
It suspension is very noisy on bumpy roads. Especially in the cold weather.
Media infotainment stops working a lot.
Transmission is very laggy at times.
Interior is extremely outdated. It’s bad. Very bad for 2023 model now.
All new cars have to have auto shut off genius… it’s mandated. Turn it off if you don’t like it.
It's not mandated. Not all cars have it.
mandated or not it's still annoying like hell!
Not all have it. My Audi doesn’t have it.
When will Honda ever learn that an offroad vehicle needs a half decent approach angle and half decent suspension.
This isn't a 4Runner any more than the Ridgeline is a Tacoma. This isn't intended to compete with the 4Runner. Totally different architecture.
@@toronado455 Did you even watch the video? Honda does intend for this to compete against the 4Runner. They're just not doing a very good job.
@@truth959 If Honda intends for this to compete with the 4Runner they are indeed doing it wrong.
Lol, my dad's 2021 z71 Silverado has the exact same approach/breakover/departure as a 2021 Ridgeline. Add the only 8" of ground clearance (honda is a 1/4" less, not a huge difference), and it makes uninformed opinions all the funnier. Don't take my word, look it up, only trail boss trims of chevy actually have better numbers. So the lift on this passport puts it better than non trail boss chevys, in terms of clearance and angles.
Tell you what, I did the Googling for you: ABD angles of a Silverado (non-trail boss trims): 19/19.4/23.9. For the stock Honda Ridgeline, ABD is: 20.4/19.6/19.6. So the Ridgeline has (marginally) better Approach and Breakover, and marginally worse departure.
We cannot discuss the Trail Boss trims vs Trail Sport as the Trail Sport is not yet available on the Ridgeline, but simple logic tells me the Honda will win. The Trail Boss trim adds 2" of lift to the Chevy, the Trail Sport trim adds 3.5" to the Honda, so I will guess, in the absence of knowledge regarding changes to bumper designs or other underbody features and tire size, the Honda will gain more angle.
For those that don't know, the Trail Sport trim was a joint effort of Honda, Traxda lifts, and UA-camr JonDZ Adventuring, to get an idea of what to expect from a Trail Sport, here is the 3.5" lift on his 2019 Passport, following a Jeep Gladiator up the Diablo Drop Off: ua-cam.com/video/Zc_M4JVLDbk/v-deo.html
