It's nice they started to put these out together. Gives you the perspective from both sides.
Valentine always does a great job with these things because he was around a long time and worked just about everywhere.
Brought back memories of "6:05 on the SuperStation". I always wondered why everything on TNT&TBS always started 5 minutes after the top of the hour
Gosh, I just love Magnum TA. Not a shred of bitterness or resentment about what happened to him. I'm sure he had to go through all that, but it doesn't seem like he's held any kind of a chip on his shoulder.
Nothing happened to him. He did it to himself.
@@fjccommish That's not entirely untrue. That car he was driving had the nickname of "The Widowmaker". If you don't know how to drive it your going to kill yourself or somebody else.
That said, it's a bit harsh. 🤣
He made a great living after wrestling
Guys like Greg are the heart and soul of a good promotion. Seasoned performer willing to work anywhere on the card and can work with anybody.
Greg Valentine may not have been the #1 guy in any territory he was in but Greg was a vital part of every territory he worked in. One of the all time greatest wrestlers.
@@michaelvolgare4454 Not at all true after 1985...he was just there to collect a paycheck, and his awful work was testament to that.
@@Rjensen2you're a clueless mark.
@@stephenjones1488He Sure T.F is...😮
4 hours of Greg Valentine? He is just getting warmed up.
Great comment! 😂
Uh...no.
@@Rjensen2 Uh...you missed the joke. You clearly were not a fan in the 80s and listened to Gorilla Monsoon.
@@CatsClaw44 Do you actually think Valentine was talking for 4 hours in this video? 🤣
Better luck next time, dummy.
Yeah, completely lost on anyone born after 1990. That was during an era where the announcers had a profound effect on getting guys over. Vince McMahon gets the rap of being a corny play by play announcer but he was actually a master at getting guys over. Since he and Pat Patterson booked the storylines he intimately knew his wrestlers and could amplify their strengths and bury their weaknesses. He portrayed Valentine as a rock solid no nonsense heel and coupled with the Hammer's snug work it made him really believable.
Magnum TA.. For me, the biggest "what if" in wrasslin history. He got so good in such a short amount of time. One of my fanfest highlights. Valentine has always been amazing & why he never was given an opportunity to run with a World Title is beyond me. I know they played with it with him vs Hogan, but, he should've been a multi time NWA Worlds Champion too. I love these deals.
The Hammer is one of my favorite wrestler interviews to listen to.
Whomever is in charge of editing is a BIG fan of Mel Phillips.
I was going to say the exact same thing 😆 surprised no one else picked up on it
Improper use of “whomever”…just saying
What was that 5 times
The editor is Mel Phillips.
Listening to those segments over and over was like experiencing the agony of de feet.
Greg valentine in 72 looks like valentine on 82, 92, 02, 12 and 22
He does kinda look like a vampire
I absolutely love these interviews with Greg and Magnum. 4 hours just flew by
Wow, this was great. 1985 was indeed a magical year for pro-wrestling. On one side you had Vince McMahon begin to morph a regional territory into a larger-than-life entertainment business and on the other (NWA), you had a business that was geared towards a more adult-oriented product. Even as a 13 year old kid, however, I would watch 'World Wide Wrestling' religiously every week here in Philly on channel 17 every Sat. @ 2pm because JCP's brand of wrestling was much more exciting than WWF's star vs. jobber matches.
I enjoyed this. Loved both perspectives.
Greg is like his dad, no nonsense, old school mans man.
Man you guys were really pushing that foot fettish spot. It must play 6 or 8 times. Then you think it's over when it goes to something else & then it repeats again! J/k, all good though. Appreciate you doing the work for us to enjoy these shoots. Looking forward to enjoying the full time line!
Valentine's dog collar match with Piper at Starcade was truly epic.
Is magnum THE #1 "what ifs" in wrestling? I think so. His career was about to go to mega stardom and then boom. His accident not only cost him but who knows where jcp/wcw would be. He had that type of potential
I really enjoy how this was put together
Thank you, Sean!
I would have loved watching the Feud that Greg Valentine could have had with Magnum .
Ran out of whiskey, can't sleep, I know what I'm doing for 4 hours on my Saturday morning before the footy!
disappointed the Mel Phillips issues never came up
Why? Are you into that stuff?
Sicko...
@@Rjensen2 You kind of missed the point there, Bob.
@@danielburger1775 yeah, right.
I may be wrong, but, I hear he had some kind of foot fetish?
😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
I met him at my sister and her husband club in Goldsboro NC he was such a very nice man.
I feel like WWF/E missed a huge opportunity by not giving the world Greg the Booker Valentine, or Greg the Creative Writer Valentine 🤘🎃
Greg 'The Pencil' Valentine
Agreed!
He really seems to have a "great mind for the business," as they say. Incredibly underrated worker.
Supposedly he made a fortune in real estate with his earnings so I'm not sure why he'd have worked for Vince on that level if it's true.
@@mikedeck8381 well now we know why he wasn't around rasslin all these years. Maybe he Saved With Conrad 🤘😆
Kudos to Greg and Magnum. They both speak very well and can tell a really good story!
Great interviews with both guys.
But, the one thing everyone will remember about watching this is the repeated bit.
Have you heard Daniel ?? About the BIG NEWS ?? So Mel Phillips likes Feet ......Can u believe it ? Crazy right , I don't remember where I heard it but yeah , he's a feet Dude :-D
In terms of the best father- son combinations, there were few better than Johnny and Greg Valentine.
Two of the great, enjoy both of them wrestling
Haven't watched this yet, but I have to say in every interview I've seen with Hammer he seems super cool.
Greg Valentine is incredibly entertaining. Tremendous dry humor.
I 'second' his sentiments regarding Canada and girl referees. 😜👍
I'm glad that Valentine pointed out that Mr. T was a tough bastard himself.
Mr t was no boxer and he wasn't a legit tough guy. The hype was big around that time without any actual facts.
Why? It isn't true.
Yeah valentine is gracious and indeed, T was a legit tough guy - a pretty good amateur football player, he won those tough-men contests, and had already built a good career as a bouncer/bodyguard before Rocky. Far more legit than stallone and the other hollywooders… and even some wrestlers.
@@datacipher He never one a tough man contest. Stallone discovered him on a TV show about bouncers. I never knew being a high school football player means your a legit tough guy?!? Lmao that's a joke right? He was in Rocky and the A-team. He was a bodyguard for Leon Spinks who was HW champion. That does not qualify you as a tough guy sorry.
@@datacipher Those toughman contests were a work.
And all they were was boxing...boxers aren't shit against someone who can wrestle or grapple.
We love you too Greg!!
excellent, both guys are great guys
Are these staying on youtube?
"Just like they did in the war"
😂
Valentine is great.
Did anyone hear about this MEL PHILLIPS Controversy ??? It's apparently Very Very Important !! :-D
Who's Mel Phillips?
This was a huge story in the mainstream media in the early 90's after the allegations surfaced about what was happening with the ring boys in the 80's. Mel Phillips was a ring announcer for the WWF in the 80's who allegedly liked to diddle the ring boys. Pat Patterson was also ensnared in this scandal and had to depart the WWF for a while until the heat died down.
this kicks butt!
Tully and magnum I quiet match best match ever or one of them
Not as good as their I noisy match from a year later.
2:19:04 "That thing in Allentown" Ah yes, that minor case of COLD-BLOODED MURDER.
Enjoyed this but it would be nice to watch one guys interview and then the next one uninterrupted especially for a 4 hour plus clip. Same thing for the Brett Hart interview.
I used to think Greg Valentine was boring mainly because I only saw him in WWF. After watching him in Mid-Atlantic, I realized he was an incredible wrestler. The problem was he needed about 20-25 minutes to warm up, which he couldn't get in the WWF. He was a Crockett worker not a Vince worker.
Little bit of history guys unlike New York and Boston in Connecticut in Vermont Philadelphia love Carolina wrestling that’s why when he came up in 1985 we accepted him so well
I love this channel but don't do these back to back again. It is a great idea but you got Terry Funk attacking Mel Phillips like 20 times in a row for wearing Terrys hat.
I would rather have it separated. Gives you a chance to go on one journey instead of feeling and seeming off watching both.
Yeah, I feel the same. I used the timestamps to listen to Magnum's interview first and I'll do the same with Valentine's next, but it's kind of a pain. The splicing is a nice concept on paper, but it's not like there's any intersection between the events in the two companies.
What's up with the multiple replays with Valentine talking about Mel Phillips?
What kind of red wine did Valentine request?
Greg Looks like what the hair metal bands would look like now, older old school style with the dye hairstyle.
Around 2:20, that bit about Mel Phillips is repeated 3-4 times in a row.
The Mel Phillips segment repeats over 3x. Why is that?
The Mel Phillips part was so important, they decided to run it four times in a row ;-)
and one additional time later for good measure...
I assumed I was accidentally going back somehow lol
Jfc....that foot story is so good. Could you tell it 12, 15 times please
Video editing error that causes you to hear Greg Valentine making the same inappropriate comment three times in a row.
MAGNUM NEEDS A "DARK SIDE OF THE RING" EPISODE. HE WAS GONNA BE PUSHED AS A MAIN EVENTER UNTIL TRAGEDY STRUCK WHEN HE WAS IN THE CAR CRASH. SHAME.
He sure do will love to see that 👍💯
@@richardclark7224 👌
Magnum's story is not really the dark-side of the ring. so much as it's just a damn shame...
Bull.
Magnum and his "spot" are WILDLY exaggerated.
He was the one Ronnie Garvin replaced, essentially. He would have gotten a few months, then would drop it back to Flair, LIKE THE NWA AND JCP ALWAYS DID IT. He would have eventually wound up a midcarder in the WWF. His interviews were not good at all, and his 5 years out of date Magnum P.I. crap would have been laughed at.
Would’ve been Austin before Austin from what I’ve always heard I’m too young to know as I was born in 88 but always had old school tapes and heard tales from the previous decades from my father and his brothers they said it would be like Austin loosing his career as he almost did in 97 and never getting to his 99-00 pinnacle of the sport
Oweeeeeeeen
Goddam that Mel Phillips shit was excruciating. Does anyone review these before the upload?
With the Great American Bash 85 do you think they were copying WWE’s WrestleMania and Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Connection with doing a hour long concert as well as wrestling??? 🤔🤔🤔
Seeing as how Wrestle Mania didn't have a concert, I'd say no.
Greg's is probably the most underrated Timeline of the series. Can't wait to watch it again.
Magnum's, not so much
Magnum is great.
Magnum ta looks more like magnum ptsd these days.
Mel Phillips is the black scorpion
MaggieMay!!! That lead foot a urs☹.
Vince wouldve made Magnum a huge babyface star
Listening to Ken Patera tell his side of the story and why he went to prison is completely different than what everyone else thought. Saito wasn’t an innocent bystander when he “threw” the boulder (which according to Patera was thrown by a former employee that had recently been fired) Saito was helping Patera fend off the cops who attempted to arrest him without even hearing him out about what happened. Interesting.
Oh, that's just nonsense. Patera was a first class asshole. He even wound up serving his entire sentence, because of all the problems he caused while in prison. Saito got out early. Also, why wasn't the former employee named at any point in the trial? If that was true, wouldn't Patera's account have shown up in the initial statement, or at trial? And what does that have to do with Patera and Saito kicking the living shit out of several cops? You don't think he served 2 years in prison for simple vandalism, do you?

Mr. T would have beat the life out of Piper, were he man enough to stand up and take it; which he most definitely was not.
It’s ok as a fan winning a Rolls Royce but you would have to sell it as the upkeep on a car like that is expensive! When it needs a service you’ll have to take it to a Rolls-Royce dealership and that will set you back a pretty penny, if it needs a part changed that will be very expensive, even changing a tyre will be more expensive than most cars as they’re wheels are 21in/22in and also I can only imagine how much it costs to insure a Rolls-Royce which needs to be done to just drive the thing! If you can afford to buy a Rolls-Royce these things aren’t a problem because you have the money but for an average person to win a Rolls-Royce they can’t afford to drive and own the car
The taxes aline would get the person before upkeep would.
When was the Greg Valentine shoot filmed?
2010 I think because he mentioned Jack Brisco recently passed and he passed in 2010.
"Two lane roads?!?!"
Try driving single-track roads in rural Scotland lol
It's different when there's no traffic lol
The real problem was the drunk drivers on those back roads going 100MPH. If they ran you off the road they might stop and come with a gun to make sure you were dead. That's no joke or embellishment.
why is the foot fetish segment repeated 100 times lol
The editing is terrible, some of these segments are repeating 2 or 3, even four times.
