    Your top 10 lists are some of the most enjoyable. I have this set complete raw, with about 18% graded PSA 5 or better. I’ve been working on it for 7 years. I have most of the stars, high numbers, and SPs graded. My goal is to have it completely graded PSA 5 to 8 within 5 to 10 years.

      Thanks Phil! I enjoy putting them together. Wow, a full graded set would be an amazing accomplishment!

    I’ve been building a raw set for a few years. I’m down to about 20 - 30 more. I’ve having a hard time finding the Baker/Baylor/Paciorek RC at a decent price. Nice video.

      Thanks Jay! You're almost there! I've heard that the Baker rookie is pretty expensive I think because it is in the high number series?

    Thanks again for another great video & for your time & efforts putting these together. More surprised that the Baker/Baylor rookie card made the list than the Fingers card. Baker is talking about retiring & people are speculating he'll make HOF on his managerial record vs player record. Probably as you said, too, that it's due to the high #/ short print status. Thought that the Simmons/Blyleven rookie cards would have made top ten. Due to the condition sensitivity of 71 Topps, not surprised that there are very few PSA 10's, also.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  10 місяців тому

      Thanks Kevin. As you said, there may be some speculation that Baker might make the HOF so people are looking to pick up his rookie now. Plus the fact that it is a high number makes it that harder to find one in a top grade.

    John, did you look at Claude Raymond #536? That's a top 5 value in PSA 8

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  10 місяців тому

      Yes, I did see his card as well as Phil Regan #634 that would have made the Top 10. I try to keep the lists to hall of famers (or those that are well known in the hobby). Also, those two cards probably only made the list because of their low pop count in PSA 8 and they are in the scarcer high number series (series 5). Claude Raymond has 51 graded an 8, 2 a 9, and no 10s. Phil Regan has 55 graded an 8, 1 a 9, and no 10s. But good call.

    Between 1972 and 1971 i think those two are the hardest to complete. Im close on both but man is it tough

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  2 місяці тому

      Yeah. The high number series cards are tough.

    Good luck getting a 1971 Topps PSA 8! This grade and these prices may have been a bit high for average collectors to relate to. I got a Munson 5.5 for $125, which feels like a steal compared to the 8. Interesting that the two HOF rookies didn't make the cut.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  20 днів тому

      You may be right. Most collectors aren't in the market for PSA 8s from the 71 set. But these top 10 videos aren't necessarily meant to be buying guide, but more of where different players rank within the set. But if I ever do a second, updated round of these videos, I'd probably go with a lower grade.

    Dusty Baker/Don Baylor great players. Tells u something about Pete Rose constantly ranking that he belongs in the HOF! I'll say it again i was lucky enough to see Munson play numerous times at The Stadium with my late father. He also belongs in the HOF like youve said.

    • @WadeBoggsFan

      Yep, and Dusty has been a pretty good manager as well. That's so cool that you got to see Munson play.

    Any recommendations on how to find a collector to buy. Have a complete 1971 set in very good condition with several doubles of stars (munson, aaron, etc)

      My best bet if you don't want to list it on eBay (if you do make sure to take lots of good pics of the key cards), if you are on Facebook look up and join groups like Vintage Baseball Cards Only 1868-1979 - Keep it Real! or Buying and Selling Vintage Cards | Investors and Collectors, and post pictures of the key cards in the set and see if someone makes you an offer.

    Such a condition sensitive set & was surprised about the Fingers & Baker cards. I’d feel like I won the lottery if I had a 10 of any of the 71’s. Thanks for sharing these Top Tens John, they are always fascinating.

      @WadeBoggsFan  10 місяців тому

      Thanks Doug. Out of the over 330,000 cards that have been graded in the set, only 242 have come back a 10. That's only 0.07%!

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  4 місяці тому

      His card came in at #12 based on his PSA 8 value at the time I did the video. While it is his rookie card, the players that made the Top 10 are just more in demand by collectors.

    71’s are so tough. I was surprised to see the Baker/Baylor RC in the top 10. Great video, very informative John.

      Hi Shannon! Hope all is well! Thanks! Yeah, I replied to another comment noting that of the over 330,000 cards that have been graded by PSA in the set, only 0.07% have come back a 10. Just so hard to get a really high grade card. I'm blessed that I was able to pick up my Yastrzemski in a PSA 8.

    The Steve Garvey according to a Beckett from about 2 years ago goes for the same price as Blyleven.
    i'm not surprised that Rollie is on the list but i'm surprised that his card is in front of Blyleven and Simmons. not surprised that Clemente is in front
    of Both Blyleven and Simmons., not surprised about Dusty Baker card 709 But I am surprised that card was in front of Homerun kings and Willie Mays.
    questions
    1. in your book which card do you say is most expensive Blyleven or Simmons?
    1 B in more demand Blyleven or Simmons?
    2.. B what do you think about these cards
    card 276 George Foster rookie , card 341 Steve Garvey?
    3. about Dusty Baker do you think the reason his card is on the list because of his playing days career or because of the sucess with the Astros?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Mark.
      1. I don't use a book to look up the values for the videos. I use a website that tracks all the sales from eBay and other auction sites. So according to the website, the Blyleven sells for more than the Simmons.
      1B. I think in general there are more collectors/interest in the Blyleven than the Simmons.
      2. The Garvey is a nice card since it's his rookie card.
      3. I think he is more well-known for being a manager than a player. If he ever makes the Hall of Fame I'm sure it would be because of his managerial career.

      1. what I meant by your book is the source you use to get prices. Not a trade paper your book whatever you use for your source of prices.
      1B at any show I haven't seen anybody buying either player I would guess there about the same in demand.
      2. I think both Foster and Garvey are nice cards to add to a rookie set and is ashamed they didn't make the top 10 list.
      3. I agree Dusty had a better managing carrer than playing days he will be more known for the sucess of the Astros. I still remember him as a Dodger he was a good player but better with the Astros..

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  9 місяців тому

      I don’t use any books or price guides as my source for prices. They tend to be outdated or not reflective of actual sales. I use a website that shows what cards actually sell for on eBay. That’s a better picture of what a card is “worth” or what people are willing to pay for a card.
