Another outstanding video John. The 1966 Topps set holds a place near to my heart. The cards in this set are the first cards my friends and I collected. We bought packs at the nearest liquor store and from the ice cream truck as it daily rolled down our street. I love the '66 set. Great era and great players. Thanks
Thank you! That's a cool memory! I never knew that ice cream trucks sold packs of cards back in the day. My set is 78 as that was the first set of cards I bought as a kid.
Thanks Shannon! Yeah I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of the Mick at the top as I start going back in years. Only exceptions might be a rookie card of a big name hall of famer.
@@WadeBoggsFan I am the caretaker of Clemente’s ‘60, ‘65, ‘69, and ‘72 topps. If you have the opportunity, I’d be honored if you checked out my VR to your vid on the card i would keep if I had to go to just one card. A Clemente is featured!
Hi John. Another great video. Thanks for all the work you do to present these episodes. I'm surprised how a couple of the HOFer's didn't get into the top 10. Thanks again.
Thanks Stephen! Yeah, some of those hall of famers just don't seem to be popular enough in the hobby to compete with the "big boys" that everyone wants.
Thank you. Other than the 5 cards that didn't make the Top 10, the card numbers would be on the slabs of the cards that made the list. But I'll see about mentioning it in my audio as I'm sure some people just listen to the video.
Another great video, John. Thanks again for your time & effort in putting these together. Thought that the Perry or Sutton & Jenkins rookies would have made the list since they are all HO Famers. Can see why few PSA 10's due to centering & miscut issues. The 66 Topps Mantle PSA 10 in my opinion would have to be six figures due to condition & rarity.
Thanks Kevin. As I'm doing these videos it's becoming apparent that even rookie cards of some hall of famers (ones that aren't super popular in the hobby) just can't break through when competing with the big hall of famers, just due to popularity.
Haha thanks John! Great episode. Working on building my 66T set presently. G. Jackson is expensive which I have graded, haven't shown yet. The bat avg ldrs is the most expensive out of the ldrs. A big problem is the horizontal cards which slop down wards! N centering left to right. I just got a HOF top 5 on your list graded which I'm doing an episode on next n it's NOT the Mays which I have. Take care, buddy.
Thanks Mike. Yeah, I've been looking at getting that leaders card and even the best centered ones (in mid-grade mind you due to budget) have a slight slope to them.
Thanks for the video John, really enjoyed it. This set has bad centering, that’s why so few 10’s. Crazy to think what the only PSA 10 Mantle would sell for.
Thanks Orlando! Definitely! Took me a while to find a Palmer rookie that was well centered and even the nice Aaron that I picked up at the National is slightly off-center top to bottom. I think that PSA 10 Mantle could easily hit 6-figures if put up for sale today.
So the Mickey Mantle and Pete Rose who are not in the high numbers are still in command and over alot of the high numbers interesting? Ferguson Jenkins Rookie not making the list is a big surprise.. to me he should be around 5th place or so!!! Jim Palmer rookie in 7th place quite surprising Palmer should either be in first , 2nd , third or around the Jenkins.. I do think Mantle belongs in the top 10 but in all fairness rookie cards of hall of famers should have been in first like Palmer and Jenkins Mantle third. interesting that the Bart Shirley and Grant Jackson are in Beckett not a skipped number!! so from the high numbers the only cards worth getting , worth anything and talking about are 5.Billy Williams card 580 4. Denny Mclain card 540 3. Gaylord Perry card 598 2. Robin Roberts 1. Willie Mccovey these are the only cards worth talking about in the high set? interesting that what collectors and dealers say that are the most important cards in the sets of the late 60's and you told me in your other video in the comments that these cards came out right around Football season and a lot less produced the biggest card best player in the high set ends up in 10th place interesting? questions 1. so which card would you rather have hall of famer Mickey Mantle card 50 or hall of famer Willi Mccovey card 550? 2. how about these 2 cards Pete Rose which isn't his rookie but it's Pete Rose or Robin Roberts? 3. which multi player rookie would you rather Bart Shirley/ Grant Jackson card 591 or Ferguson Jenkins card 254? rookie 4. something that John collins was talking to me about the other cards from the high number set so for this set say Jim Northrup card 554, , Gene Oliver card 541, Joe Cunningham card 531 when you go to shows and you see the cards 1.00 box and 5.00 box do you see any of these cards in those bins/boxes? for the 1967 Mike Shannon, JC Martin , Gary Geiger ect? so for these 6 cards from the 1966 set and 1967 set any of these cards in hard plastics or penny sleeves end up in the 1.00 box, 5.00 box? 3. what do you think about these cards ? 1. Earl Wilson card 575 2. Bob Chance card 564 3. Mel Queen card 556 or these cards? 3. Ron Swoboda card 35 2. Phil Niekro card 28 1. Jim Hunter card 36
Thanks Mark. I think maybe why you don't see a lot of the big names as part of the high series is that Topps wanted those players to drive sales of the cards during the regular season. So you usually don't see many of the big names in the high series (at the time Crew and Seaver were just rookies so they wouldn't have been thought of as big players). 1. I'd rather have the Mantle. Although I do have one, but not a McCovey. So I would like to have the McCovey as well. 2. Definitely Pete Rose. 3. The Fergie Jenkins rookie. 4. I don't know as I don't really look through boxes of vintage at card shows. I'm only interested in graded cards. But, I would think that it's possible that some of the high numbers could get in those boxes if the seller was not aware that they are harder to find. 5. The only cards I would be interested in would be the Niekro and Hunter since they are hall of famers. I do have the Swoboda though as I won it in a contest that another channel did.
@@WadeBoggsFan My answers 1. I would take the Mantle over the Mccovey but it would be close. 2. although Baseball commission is mad at Rose i'm not So I would rather have the Rose 3. The Feguson Jenkins rookie over the other multi player rookie. 4. my answer is the almost the same as yours as if a dealer wasn't looking they could put those cards in the 5.00 dollar box 5. my thoughts on 1. Earl Wilson 2. Bob Chance 3. Mel Queen there all commons they might be harder to find, but to me there not in demand some people putting together sets may want them but I would rather have the other group 3. Ron Swoboda 2.. WBF- Enjoyed your video! 1966 is one of my favorite sets. The Clemente pose is iconic to me. That card is definitely on my wish list.
Thanks! That is a great shot of Clemente. I have his 67, which I like, but I don't have his 66. One day I hope to expand my Clemente collection.

Awesome video John! I was not surprised that Mantle is number 1 from this year. That PSA 10 Mantle would be worth at least $50k in my opinion.
