Leatherman is definitely better quality, but I have a dime and have gotten a lot of use out of it. The package opener is such a great tool. I love using it to open hard plastic blister packaging. Goes through it like butter. I wish Leatherman would include one, then it would be a no brainer to get the squirt. But for half the price, I'll stick with my dime. Now for full size multitools, Leatherman is king.

same thoughts exactly. The screwdrivers and blades and files work for small stuff in a pinch but you're not going to use them for big jobs or any extended period of time. the package opener comes in handy pretty often and I also like the bottle opener without having to open anything. Put those two things on the leatherman and I would buy 2 haha

I liked my Squirt a lot when I first bought it just over a year ago - at a discount because I wasn't willing to pay the asking price of £45 here in the UK, that's about 60 US$. However bit by bit I've become a bit disenchanted. The knife blade isn't bad for opening packages and it's a bit larger and more robust than the Victorinox 58mm knives but the backspring tension is virtually non-existent, almost to the extent of it being floppy. Doesn't hinder me when using it but it's disappointing for a so-called premium product, at a premium price. Second, the bottle opener is a pain to use, it takes 3 or 4 attempts at a sharp angle, and I've stopped taking it to work because it was embarrassing trying to open a beer at the end of work, and them handing me their lighters to open it with as they could see me struggling. Third, the flat Phillips driver is made of something like butter because although I've used it less times than I have fingers on one hand, the sides of it have deformed. Finally the scissors: at first I thought they were 8/10 (compared to 10/10 for Victorinox) but now I'd rate them at most 4/10, the rivet in the centre means that the blades are so loose they are unable to snip threads or open soft plastic packaging, or cut fabric...The pliers/wire cutters and file are great though, I especially like that the file has a serrated edge and can actually be used to saw through plastic and aluminium, and, I suppose, wood in a pinch. But that's only 2 out of 6 tools which are good
A few months ago I took a punt on the Nextool Mini Flagship, it was a risk as I'd read a lot of reports of springs on scissors/pliers breaking straight out of the box or with little use, but it was only £15 including delivery. I haven't had any problems with the springs, perhaps Nextool fixed the issue. Anyway it scores
performancewise over the Squirt with those 4 tools with issues outlined above. If I am likely to need to cut or screw anything, or open a bottle, I take my Nextool. I only carry the Squirt now on days off where I'm less likely to have to use it, as a ''gentleman's carry'' mini multitool, as it does have a better form factor and is more compact.

For my uses the Dime has been good. Between the Dime and an SAK Farmer there is pretty much all of the improvisational tools needed out in the woods in a fairly compact package. Will admit though, if I lost the Dime, would probably give the Leatherman a go next instead of getting another Dime.

I've been using the Squirt PS4 for 13 years. Use it constantly. I love it and it has always been in my pocket. Hasn't rusted but I have used it under ideal conditions. Note that the file on the PS4 has 3 edges: for fingernails, metal file (also good for sharp edges on hard plastic); and saw (not a real saw, but other UA-cam channels have shown that it does cut through certain woods and aluminum).

I had both of these at one time. Both are really great little tools. I found however for me I just didn't use them and passed them along. For me as a long time mutlitool carrier a full size Leatherman is a better option paired with a smaller sak. This is alot to do with my work in custom manufacturing which requires more full size tools. For the price either is well worth the money if they suit your needs. Leatherman uses 420 stainless for there knife blades FYI. This was a great comparison alot of very detailed info. Great video brotha 👍

I like the look of the Powerpint. Can't help feeling that LM are missing a gap in the market here i.e. medium sized pocket multitools, since they no longer make the pliers-based Juice range. Okay there is the Skeletool but it's a bit minimalist plus it has a locking blade which I can't EDC here (UK, our laws suck). I reckon if LM just made a larger Squirt, so same size as a Juice or medium SAK, with scaled up tools and backsprings, perhaps adding a saw and reamer and making the 2D into a 3D Phillips, as well as a pocketclip, they'd be on to a winner.

@@BrandonGavin_EDC Good choice. I'd get one except it too has a locking blade. My mid-sized multitool is the SOG Micro toolclip which is okay - pliers and blade are fine but the file is pretty useless and the Phillips is a bit awkward to use - which I pair with a SAK. My larger ''UK legal'' multitool is the Gerber MP600 bladeless, again paired with a SAK and/or slipjoint folder e.g. Bokerplus Atlas.

I agree on almost all points and just might have to buy a squirt now. I carry the dime almost every day. Its so small and comes in handy all the damn time. If I can improve it even a little bit in the same size/form factor I'll probably love it even more.
The dime goes on sale for ~$15 in some ugly colors pretty often so if you don't mind what it looks like you can score one for dirt cheap.
That package opener works for blister packs like a dream too, but I don't have to open them too often.
I don't like too much crap on my key ring and I have a Jeep Gladiator so the fob is already obnoxiously big, but if you have a bag you carry to work you could stash one of these little tools in there and barely take up any space but have a bunch of handy tools at your disposal.
