- I've had the Vitus Mythique VR full suspension budget trail bike for 6 months now, but I've heavily upgraded it along the way. So I went back to stock to give the best long term review possible. Has anyone ever done this before?

Riding a Nucleus on my local trails and am really liking the Vitus. Fun to ride something that doesn’t say Trek, Giant or Specialized like the masses too. Great vid and good luck on your sale 👍
My mythique VRX is awesome, just slapped a fox dpx2 on the rear with offset bushings, can't wait to try it out
Yeah I have a focus jam and riding a unique brand is just cool
How is a 450 reach too small for you? I'm 5'11(i think, 179-180cm) and i ride a canfield thats got a 438 reach and that's a bit small for me, 450 would be perfect
I'm afraid you are too honest for companies to send you bikes to test :D Great details as usual.
Polygon is sending one! And they're familiar with my channel. Shows that they believe in their product!
i do think u should've buy polygon siskiu right from the start thats xc bike but can be trail bike.
Cool review. I totally agree that your main bike should be designed for the place you ride the most. Too many people over bike which takes away some of the challenge.
It comes down to personal preference in the end. I ride the same bike and love the handling on our xc trails. But it does come to life on a good downhill track. Great vid and review.
I have the VRX and it's amazing on cross country trails, but with that said my cross country trails are petty rough and I mainly use it for enduro and dh
It seems that you are never without controversy these days😂. Telling people basically not to over bike will probably get you a little more hate🤣. We were a little surprised that you are selling it, but now you will have room for something new😉. Nice job as always Evan👍👍.
I ride my mythique VRX where most ppl take 180mm enduro bikes and dh bikes and some would say I'm under biked but tbh I prefer the playful handling
I'm also planning on upgrading my Mythique VR to the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 for 140mm travel. What would you recommend upgrading to for the rear shock, if your only choice was an inline? I don't like the added weight of a piggyback.
I have a Fox Float on mine. Pairs with the Bomber nicely. Fox Float DPS EVOL Shock, 3POS, 7.875 x 2.0 SV
Very thorough video and great point you made about proper setup. That can be more effective than upgrades. Looking forward to what is next. My bet is a D7.
You were right!!
@@Lucas-hk6gn I’m a mind reader!
Haha you guys crack me up! The writing was on the wall for sure. Didn't enjoy a 140 travel bike, wanted something a little less
Great video Evan! Interesting how Vitus has some incorrect info on their website. IMO "Mee-thique" sounds better than "Mithique", but...🤷♂️🤷♂️ Thanks for putting the effort onto your vidoes, not everyone will reset their bike to stock for a 6 month review!
Edit: Nooooo! Don't sell the Mythique! So sad to see it go after only half a year, will the Nucleus be staying at least (but it is a Trail bike...), I see why, but still...are you going to be getting an XC full sus, (XC + full squish = 🤨🤨) or no? Before you list it, just make sure that you've searched all the trails (I mean, all!) around you! It would SUCK to sell it only to find out a week later that you found a new trail system or one that was just finished!
Pedal Bobb on full sus without lock out …. everyone’s enemy lol. Good to know about being able to increase rear travel as higher spec bike, I didn’t know that.
hiya mate just wandering if you still had that rear shock as I have the mythique aswell and I am struggling to find one the right size?
Fox Float DPS EVOL Shock, 3POS, 7.875 x 2.0 SV
I put a Fox 36 150mm travel, a Fox Float DPX2 & Shimano Saint brakes on my Vitus Mythique 29 VR and I loveeeee it
are you going to sell the mythique in its stock form ort what about the neucleus
i am upgrading my bike idk what to buy i know i am buying a sealed headset the money left im thinking of buying seperate mechanical brake levers because i still have a combo shifter so im not sure can you give me some advice and its actually pretty sad that you're selling the vitus
Nice catch on the derailleur hanger Evan....I spent 10 minutes trying to get the rear axle on the mythique to to seat properly the other day....I'm going to start checking that bolt m ore often....still loving the bike though...another great video!
Dude heck yeah glad I included that then! It's absolutely horrible if you didn't know it was happening. Thanks Chris!!
Vitus sentier VRX is just amazing. So light, 12kg and super strong which can be treated like an XC or trail if you change the tires. I think the rear sus is overkill unless I'm bombing it as fast as possible downhill. The shorter, lighter weight 130 front fork of the sentier is better quality.... I think to anyone who wants a fun 360 bike, don't over look a hardtail trail that can smash XC marathons and pick through mountains.
Oh Bubba Stewart!! Haha. I used to work for the moto graphics company Factory Effex. We sponsored him in his Monster/Yamaha days.
Haha you're the only one that commented on that. I thought everyone in mtb watched mx/sx. Factory Effex is a major company. That's rad
If you can get stans race seal stuff
By far the best tubeless milk on the market
i agree with that overbike thing. nice message Mr saga👍
Bring on the Polygons!
You should try the Sentier hard tail, it is a very nice bike, the big brother of the Nucleus.
Hi Evan, I also have a Vitus Mythique and was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a higher quality rear shock. Did it make a significant difference to your bike and do you think it's worth the upgrade?
Yeah I loved going to the upgraded shock with the extra reservoir. I felt like the rear end was way more planted to the ground, uphill and down
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks for the advice 👍
External cable is an advantage actually as long as there is cable guides and there is no cable rattle
Great video as always
I really like mine, it’s the first decent bike I’ve been able to purchase new, I’m around 5’7 and the medium is the perfect fit except the dropper was too long so I replaced with the same but smaller, I was able to use the slx cranks from my old bike and installed a 203 front rotor, I may do what you have done with the shocks but that won’t be for a long time. Cheers
What's the insert length of the dropper you added? I'm 5'6 and looking to buy a medium
Brilliant video mate 👌
As it's a budget bike could you give me a list of budget parts that is a must for this bike plz
Nice vid bro you deserve at least 500k
This video was a great idea and I loved it .KEEP IT UP
Thank you! Will do!
Great points, in this review, about the rd hanger. Loctite would be a good idea. The steering thing did not sound good, I tried a kid sfstbike once steering was really bad turning meant t fighting the bike bar to t return it to centre. Was it that you felt? Just a bit? That kids fat bike had it to the extreme i really had to fight it hard. The kid hated it.
Head angle, trail, fork offset all matters if all is weird, bike won't handle well, I think the offsett and trail could have been bit bad on this bike with original fork i guess. But it could also be the front tyre.
the hanger is actually a selling point for me. sure it'd be better if there were 2 bolts, but it looks (from pictures) that the bolt screws into the hanger itself rather than having having those delicate threads in the frame which is disturbingly common in other brands.
Another plus is the use of an easily replaceable axle nut vs having to thread the axle directly into the frame (like certain polygons for example).
@@chichikov617 great points. Agree, defenitly valid points.
@@chichikov617 whole bike seems to be well thought out, proper pivots, feefy rocker link, symmetric design, pressfit headset, threaded bb. I rather buy a vitus than a Trek for example.
@@mtbboy1993 i have been eyeing one of these myself, because the spec/price is good. The thing that bothers me most is looking closely at the chainstay linkage (think its called the horst link) it seems that the bolt screws into the frame. On the seatstay (V-link?) it looks like they used something resembling a chainring bolt where the bolt screws to an outer bolt and its a pity that couldnt be the case at both ends.
Im not sure if it'll be a dealbreaker because if those threads got stripped maybe a longer bolt would work with a nut outside the frame? hard to tell from images.
the 2022 models could be announced any day now, so everything could be completely different.
@@chichikov617 several bikes including my Nicolai/Geometron G1 has a axle that runs tru the frame and the and bolts don't thread into the frame there. Also G1 has replecable threads apart from cable guide threads, but the brake threads have round blacks you can swap, that's a feature ei want to see on more bikes, onlu few brands do it. The bottom chainguide mounts have replaceable threads too, you can press them out. I think the threads in the seat stay can be replaced too. But this bike is very adjustable made to run both 29 and 27.5 and mullet setup, chips in the rear end can be changed to suit your needs. They even have different rear derailleur hangers - 1, 0, +1 to assure the wheel, axle thread is aligned, secured with a pin, and several bolts, none thread into the frame, the hanger is a sandwich design, so bolts threadbintonthe backside. Awesome bike.
You should look into getting a guerrilla Gravity trail pistol for your next full suspension ride! Not quite xc but not quite trail
Looks like a cool bike, but made $4500 for a complete bike is way out of my price range. Never heard of that brand so thanks for showing it to me though!
@@EvansMTBSaga yeah it's not cheap but it's a good price compared to similar spec carbon builds! Also I think you'd have fun messing with the geometry and having the ability to swap between different models
That headtube isn’t even slack
Bye Bye Mythique!
polygon sponsorship and evan is getting a s works next week. at least he can get rid of the mythique that is too small for him
Whys re you running grip shifters
Thanks for the Vid my brother
I built up a Ragley Mmmbop with lyrik ultimate 160 4 piston code R and sitting on 2.8 fattties , but I have always wondered about the Vitus Mythique
I’m on the opposite side my hard tail is a beast for hard fast long tech DH
My local trail is 9 miles of single 30 min nonstop ( out in Cali )
But I have been thinking about a short travel full sus for long adventure rides ,
So which would you suggest Vitus or polygon ?
1:22 borderline too small? I think It probably is too small then. 😒 Don't use the saddle and stem to make the bike feel bigger. Only use stem spacers, and handle bar rise to adjust reach and cockpit height. Moving saddle back can make pedalling painful if done to the extreme, same if too micj to the front, but also it fatigues you, and reduces the pedalling performances. I notice this. Longer stem compromises the steering feel. You swing the bar instead of turning it. I reccomend you go for a longer reach frame.
can i have it i will give u a tenner
Superb review. Thank you. I ride a Sentier VR and was eyeing the Mythique. My trails are arguably more XC so you got me thinking.
Do you find the rock shox monarch significantly better than the O2 pro?
Not significantly. I couldn't justify the cost of the monarch plus new. It did have a nice ramp where you felt more supported the deeper in the shock stroke. Felt super planted and nice, but for $500, eh the X Fusion does well enough
@@EvansMTBSaga heard it is very unreliable and failed many people halfway
I did a full rebuild on it. The guy said it was broken, but there was just air in the negative chamber I believe (I'm not proficient in shock terminology)
Nice video. But just curious, why didn’t you just buy the VRX?
Initial cost up front. I was very new to the sport and wasn't commited enough to fork out the extra $500. Now I probably would've.
also cure cycling and chicken sendies pronounces vitus as vaiiitus. while you pronounce it as veeetus. idk whats the correct way to pronounce vitus lol.
Mr Dentist. Hahahaha
And this is why I built up a 90s gt over buying a 3k full suspension bike. I like in nyc where in the hell do I ride that thing
Would be nice if you got an Instagram and posted some behind the scenes content!😃
IG is being super weird and wants me to send a picture of my face holding up a hand written confirmation code to create an account. Super creepy
@@EvansMTBSaga I’m pretty sure that’s common for verification, but yeah that sounds weird
@@EvansMTBSaga oh shit that sounds... intersting?!🤨
@@EvansMTBSaga Are you sure that's IG? Sounds super sketchy to me.
Yup I've tried multiple times. FB and IG aren't happy that I haven't been on the platform for 5+ years
Stop drinking coffee if you need help buying it.
It's a channel donation, nothing about coffee
would buy this bike! If i have extra money😆
I personally believe you should sell it to me for -1 dollars
It's been sold already!
0:10 I think ur brake rotor in the rear is backwards
Interesting. I sold the bike though
What socket set do you use? The vids a great btw.
@Evans MTB Saga ...You mentioned peddle bob. Most reviews on this bike claim it pedals very well. They seem to all be running the rear at 25% sag as that seems to be the sweet spot. ....What was your rear shock sag set at?
30%. Probably 35 cuz I was lazy haha
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks for the reply. Got 18% off on a VR from CRC so working on a budget build.
Since you had a BMX background I'm surprised you don't really prefer smaller frames since the ardor 06 and mythic were smaller mediums and you said they were borderline small for you. Thought you would be fine with the smaller feel since ur a bmxer. Also thought you would like 26ers like the 06 fuel 80 you bought.
I rode an XXL+ in BMX though
You should try west National at SoMo
I want to upgrade my front fork to 160. What forks do you think can be a good replacement? Thanks
Rockshox Yari or Lyrik
@@EvansMTBSaga thank you so much. I love your channel.
What does nimble mean????
Nimble - quick and light in motion
The stock fork on that bike I believe has a 46mm offset. Did your new fork have 44mm offset ? If so , was there a difference? What’s your thought on offset ? My vr has 29 wheels, thinking of going 44mm offset. Thanks , great videos !
I've gone to 51mm offset before but I didn't really notice a difference
I had the same problem with the paint and the derailleur hanger on my Nukeproof Mega. It was the same color.
Oh wow and that's a pretty expensive bike too. Dang. I hope to get better at applying the frame protection lol.
how did selling the 2006 trek fuel 80 go. belive it or not I am the same age as that bike lol.
Haha what the heck you're only 15??? I didnt sell it yet
Question:did you have upgrade the rear hub to get a 12speed cassette?
Nope, you can get an inexpensive cassette off Amazon, I think you'd have to have a SRAM drivetrain though. Shimano has chain compatibility issues
Next bike you get should be a YT Izzo!
My friend is getting one of those so I'm trying to review it once he gets it ☺️ thanks Lance!
@@EvansMTBSaga I'm waiting for a YT Jeffsy. It'll be April is my guess. Till then, my Axum with essential upgrades will have to do..
Over biking is fun
What is your asking price for the bike?
I'm thinking $1600
Where will you be selling the bike?
I plan on listing on Pinkbike. Are you in the market?
@@EvansMTBSaga not me but possibly a close friend of mine. I've been trying to get him to make the leap but life... Lol
How about a downcountry bike?that kinda suits the trail that you're always riding.Just giving some opinions.
So true and that's what I have coming in the mail right now. But first going to do an S-works restoration
@@EvansMTBSaga ohh nice!Btw,good luck with your restoration and upcoming video.Keep it up💪🏻
Sweet
Nice vid
oh noo, are u going to switch to XC bike now? at least full suspention one please
!
Haha you read my mind. I'm only really interested in full sus
@@EvansMTBSaga hell yeahh
One major thing that stired me away from this bike is the inability to slam a dropper all the way down because of the curved seat post, furthermore limiting my dropper options to only like 125 travel...not good
I have a 170mm dropper on my Mythique
@@cleggycyclist not the travel length but the insertion into the frame
@@renenavarro4121 your original comment says "travel", regardless yes the frame is limited but not severely so, it depends more on the brand of dropper post, oneup components dropper has much less insertion than the stock brand x one
What computer set up you have on the vitus?
It's a Garmin edge 510 I think. Got it in 2014 haha
@@EvansMTBSaga hey, if it works, why change it
👍nice rig, can i ask where you got the wtb i30 rim from👌
Thanks Steve, I provided a link for that in the description
@@EvansMTBSaga 👍👌
The stupid long seat tube with the bend is something that I cannot get alone with.
Yeah its irritating how it can't be slammed
@@EvansMTBSaga also sound to me you want to get back into a nice hardtail for your local trails.
i wouldnt be surprised if they have a major redesign for 2022. id like to see a metric shock too.
nice
