rewatching the moment in EXU:C 4 where the druids are all casting transport via plants to help the people of toramunda escape, and knowing now that evontra'vir was probably one of those very druids in that moment, really hammers home the powerful connections between EXU:C and this campaign. absolutely delicious storytelling and collaborative creation.
I felt like it was obvious early on that events that happened during the calamity would play a role in this campaign, hence the reason we finally got to aee what happened with our own eyes with the prequel series dm'd by Mulligan instead of just hearing the whispers and what knowledge historians and scholars have learned about it from an npc Matt played. Matt was wanting the audience to finally see what happened and get a feel for what the age of arcanum was like, cause he knew the knowledge learned would help us appreciate the story he is weaving this campaign even more.
I was literally waiting for Taliesin to have his "that was sprinkled with the Dust of Deliciousness" moment and just say "that was tobacco mixed with some of the all minds burn" and see the entire crew lose their shit. He looked so much like he was trying to hide a smug expression that I was *certain* that's what was about so happen, I'm so disappointed that it didn't.
The tree said Ashton's dad was destined to find the titan relic, Ashton was destined to become titan blood, BH were destined to guide the gods. There is no way the Matron did not know about all these destinies, but i am starting to think she has no control over it. As much as Ludinus was complaining about destiny and controlled by the gods, the gods are victims of fate as well
The Raven Queen has never been in control of anyone's destiny. She's been in custody for safe keeping of the threads of destiny. She might do a little nudging, she steps in when it's going wrong - Keyleth - Of course she knew he was going to save her, she could have stopped Vax by snapping a finger - but he was the ONLY in who could step in. Also people have "destiny" But they also have free will, so they can also say "fuck it" and walk away. I keep thinking about how they all hate her & blame her. But really the LAST THING she wanted was his death. She rezzed 2x once with Pike once with her armor... I mean you just don't come back from a pile of dust 2x... Plus come on, Matt really wanted him dead, better end of the story... I kind of figured he wasn't getting out of this alive.
One of the gods that Predathos devoured was Vorde, the Fateshaper. Maybe both of them could only foresee and safekeep destiny, but there's also the possibility that Vordo could actually fuck around with it, that the actual power over destiny died and the gods needed to hide that from everyone. The Raven Queen may have taken that domain, but she didn't create the golden threats of fate, so she can't modify them. (but she still decided to protect them and the circle of life as well, or maybe the pantheon allowed her to take that domain, maybe in fear of what they could do with it, maybe too much for them, or just indifference)

Especially since FCG was more likely than not - THERE for it! I was kind of hoping the Shattered Teeth trip would give them some answers...but - they didn't get enough time - I can't imagine Matt throwing out hints to ask, then rushing them out weren't on purpose. Either to return and finish FCGs back story up or a trip to Aeor... Maybe with FRIDA... or a post-mortem trip 😢 with whomever is left of the MN & Deanna & FRIDA to find out what they can. FCG HAS to die, nobly as a hero - especially if they just got through one of their super stress moments, taking a "bullet" for Ashton or FRIDA or any of BH, MN of VM - especially Pike who they look up to and holds in such esteem - became a baker and kind of realized it's not about helping "your God" it's about being - along with your God " being a servant of the people". I think they are *just starting to scratch the surface.

i was thinking how fucking much this makes sense. like these characters are such a weird grouping of totally wild chaotic people. A Werewolf, A dead chick, a hunk of metal, a feywild deer thing, a jaded moon sorcerer human, a kinda normie human, a hunk of rock dude. I thought when he said they will kinda guide the fate of the gods how they are like a representative council of many lifeforms and natures that exist including a representative from the feywild and shadowfel (laudna). very fitting and so cool, my mind was blown. is it fate, was this planned, is fate planned wowowow.
Also in this episode, Ashton forgets to ask the tree about the strange dunamancy presence in his head that already conflicts with his elemental nature, and whether adding not a second but a third "presence" might be a bad idea.
I don't think we've really seen any indication that those two elements conflict. Hell with the degree of possibility Ashton can manipulate even with his barbarian class it might be a solution that allows him to hold both together.

So it could be argued Ashton is gonna house the Luxon, Empress of Earth and Emperor of Fire lmao

The Kryn Dynasty has an entire mythology built around it but it's not like they have a cleric that communes with the Luxon Beacons in the same way other clerics do with either the Prime deities or the Betrayer Gods. What they do know is derived from study by arcanists or what the Beacons have be shown to do. And we've also witnessed during Imogen and FCG's excursion through Ashton's head the multitude of possibilities he is capable of. But nothing more. Not even a conciousness of the Earth Empress in his blood. There really isn't any evidence that the Luxon is light celestial or otherwise. The Kryn mythology plays well in driving a rejection of the Betrayers because it's people are largely the races that were both worshipped and oppressed by them. It's more of a blasphemy when you apply it to the Prime Deities. And despite what Ludinus may claim Ioun, the goddess of knowledge, was pretty forthcoming with Vox Machina regarding their beneficent will.

Ashton is about the least punk character ever. Ashton is like a 17 year old girl from 2008 who buys her clothes at hot topic and listens to pink's idea of what punk is. "So unpredictable" You can count on Taliesin to be predictable in one thing, to say the dumbest, most nonsensical thing at any given moment. I could never watch these shows "live" because I need to be able to skip forward any time he starts to talk.

Apparently they leveled up off screen, so unless they post a video here's what they got at 11 Chetney: Based on the HP difference between level 10 and 11 he rolled a 4. Level 10 Blood Hunters get Dark Agumentation. He gets 10 more movement speed and he gets a bouns to Strength, Dex and Con saves, which I think is 3 because he use Int. Rogue two gets him Cunning Action Launda: She rolled a 5 on her hit die. She gets an ASI no matter what she took (Sorcerer 8 or Warlock 4), and it looks like she took a feat. But most importantly, Level 11 is when Cantrips get a boost. She gets three beams to Eldritich Blast and extra die to her other cantrips. FCG: Rolled a 2 on the hit die. His Destroy Undead gets a boost and now has a Sixth Level slot. Any Cantrips get a boost too Fearne: the Hit die gods hate this level, she got a two as well. Wildfired Druid 10 lets her get a sprit upon killing an enemy within thirty feet of her or Mister and it can deal damage or heal if someone moves into it, this is a reaction. Cantrips also get boosted and she gets a new one.Rogue two gets her Cunning Action Imogen: Got a five on her hit die. She gets upgraded cantrips and access to level 6 spells Orym: Rolled a 6 and gets Extra Attack Times 3 And Finally Ashton: Rolled a 3 on the hit die. But he also gets Relentless Rage, which means he can do a Con save when he hits 0 and stay up Edit: Laundas 8 in Sorcerer

Im doing my makeup while listening to the episode and the "You're just pachinkoing down the tree?" Moment made me laugh and now with my eyeliner I have one relaxed eye and one angry eye.
It seems consistent that right around episode 70-75 of every campaign, I truly start to love the group. Also, there are always huge turning points in the stories right around the same episodes across campaigns.
Orym keeping the spyglass secret is very good, i really missed the secrecy and distrust of campaign two, so im glad they're brining a LITTLE bit of that in
Dude, Welcome! What do you think so far? I love Ashley as Fern. As much as I LOVED caduceus, it feels like Ashton is so much more suited for Taliesin. Same for Orym.. Caleb was my favorite character in S2 but seeing Liam almost play as himself in a way makes it so much more fun to watch and relate to

MAN matt has been really good about giving only neutral responses in the god debate but im so glad he introduced this perspective on the issue! abandoning the idea that the gods are perfect and are instead mirrors to people is not only just really interesting theology but ALSO gives more nuance to the in-game debate that goes beyond "hmph! the gods haven't done anything for me!!!😤😤😤"
It's easily overlooked through everything else, but that whole interaction between Laudna and Imogen at 2:53:41 was so darn sweet. Despite their own individual traumas, they're such a solid, constant presence to each other, and it calls back to the "you're my tether" exchange. I just love the two of them so much

theory: (SPOILERS OF THE EPISODE) i think fearne will take in the remnant of rau’shan. ashton may try first, but realize that (especially with their unstable body and cracked brain) they won’t be able to hold both pieces of the primordials. fearne is a wildfire druid and, comparatively to the rest of the party, has the least stakes in the main plot (aside from chetney). she was named as a ruidusborn arbitrarily, nothing has come from that thread. seeing her parents didn’t awaken anything specific in her. going to the feywild didn’t allow her to discover more about herself or come upon aspects of her home that could benefit herself or her allies in the future (aside from a half-decent piece of armor). however, in (SPOILER ALERT FOR EXU) exandria unlimited, she got glimpses of an alternate world and a version of herself that reflected a possible future of her having consumed the world in a dark fire, so to speak. but instead of taking life in the form of a volcanic inferno, she chose to create it in the form of mister. i say all that to say that, fearne was shown a world where her attunement to fire got the better of her, a world where everything was smoldering, wispy, and burnt to ash and cinder. (very specific motifs that remind you of a volcanic aesthetic, or at the very least a symbol of the aftermath of a powerful, unrelenting flame, no?) all that coupled with fearne’s penchant for making deals and interacting with strange powers (speaking of, teven klask… champion of asmodeus… asmodeus… god of the hells… the hells… a series of demiplanes mostly enveloped in razing flames… hm…) and her lack of a binding thread of the plot, i think she makes much more of a candidate for the powers of rau’shan than ashton. i like ashton’s plot thread at the moment, but them solely collecting shards like dragonballs is cliché at best. them *attempting* to do that, but realizing and strengthening the powers that they’ve already got feels like better character development to me.

okay but the shard of Ka'Mort turned Ashton into an earth genasi over the course of several years (presumably), so what would happen if they added the shard of Rau'shan? would he develop fire genasi traits as well, and if so, immediately or over time, and is that even physically possible? or would it just be a general power-up situation? what happens if they give it to someone else, would that person then slowly become a fire genasi?? would it be reversible?? would it be some future NPC or someone in bells hells?? what would happen?? and that's not even getting into the dunamis cocktail in Ashton's head and how that might affect everything and there's so much and I NEED ANSWERS

rewatching the moment in EXU:C 4 where the druids are all casting transport via plants to help the people of toramunda escape, and knowing now that evontra'vir was probably one of those very druids in that moment, really hammers home the powerful connections between EXU:C and this campaign. absolutely delicious storytelling and collaborative creation.
I felt like it was obvious early on that events that happened during the calamity would play a role in this campaign, hence the reason we finally got to aee what happened with our own eyes with the prequel series dm'd by Mulligan instead of just hearing the whispers and what knowledge historians and scholars have learned about it from an npc Matt played. Matt was wanting the audience to finally see what happened and get a feel for what the age of arcanum was like, cause he knew the knowledge learned would help us appreciate the story he is weaving this campaign even more.
Obviously a very different situation, but when Ashton asked, "Do you smoke?" am I the only one who thought, "Have you ever had a blueberry cupcake?"

I was literally waiting for Taliesin to have his "that was sprinkled with the Dust of Deliciousness" moment and just say "that was tobacco mixed with some of the all minds burn" and see the entire crew lose their shit. He looked so much like he was trying to hide a smug expression that I was *certain* that's what was about so happen, I'm so disappointed that it didn't.

The tree said Ashton's dad was destined to find the titan relic, Ashton was destined to become titan blood, BH were destined to guide the gods. There is no way the Matron did not know about all these destinies, but i am starting to think she has no control over it. As much as Ludinus was complaining about destiny and controlled by the gods, the gods are victims of fate as well

The Raven Queen has never been in control of anyone's destiny. She's been in custody for safe keeping of the threads of destiny. She might do a little nudging,
she steps in when it's going wrong - Keyleth - Of course she knew he was going to save her, she could have stopped Vax by snapping a finger - but he was the ONLY in who could step in. Also people have "destiny" But they also have free will, so they can also say "fuck it" and walk away.
I keep thinking about how they all hate her & blame her.
But really the LAST THING she wanted was his death. She rezzed 2x once with Pike once with her armor... I mean you just don't come back from a pile of dust 2x... Plus come on, Matt really wanted him dead, better end of the story... I kind of figured he wasn't getting out of this alive.
One of the gods that Predathos devoured was Vorde, the Fateshaper. Maybe both of them could only foresee and safekeep destiny, but there's also the possibility that Vordo could actually fuck around with it, that the actual power over destiny died and the gods needed to hide that from everyone. The Raven Queen may have taken that domain, but she didn't create the golden threats of fate, so she can't modify them. (but she still decided to protect them and the circle of life as well, or maybe the pantheon allowed her to take that domain, maybe in fear of what they could do with it, maybe too much for them, or just indifference)

She didn't "become a God" for power, to take over, she did it because SHE HAD TO, there was no one else powerful enough (as an exalted ruidus born), less corrupted by power, willing to leave it all behind to save the fucking world... Sound familiar? Enter VAX not Ruidis born (but who the hell KNOWS) but Fate touched, but is like her in all the ways that count.

My head cannon. But she must have a sense of humor or used to before - and Vax got her laughing again, reminded her of her true purpose - to serve with compassion. Watching everybody trying to remind Sam of calamity with just hand signals is killing me.
Especially since FCG was more likely than not - THERE for it! I was kind of hoping the Shattered Teeth trip would give them some answers...but - they didn't get enough time - I can't imagine Matt throwing out hints to ask, then rushing them out weren't on purpose. Either to return and finish FCGs back story up or a trip to Aeor... Maybe with FRIDA... or a post-mortem trip 😢 with whomever is left of the MN & Deanna & FRIDA to find out what they can. FCG HAS to die, nobly as a hero - especially if they just got through one of their super stress moments, taking a "bullet" for Ashton or FRIDA or any of BH, MN of VM - especially Pike who they look up to and holds in such esteem - became a baker and kind of realized it's not about helping "your God" it's about being - along with your God " being a servant of the people". i was thinking how fucking much this makes sense. like these characters are such a weird grouping of totally wild chaotic people. A Werewolf, A dead chick, a hunk of metal, a feywild deer thing, a jaded moon sorcerer human, a kinda normie human, a hunk of rock dude.
I thought when he said they will kinda guide the fate of the gods how they are like a representative council of many lifeforms and natures that exist including a representative from the feywild and shadowfel (laudna).

I love how seriously Ashton takes this. “I am blood of Titan.” Like ok I see you bbgurl, you’re excited now.
Also in this episode, Ashton forgets to ask the tree about the strange dunamancy presence in his head that already conflicts with his elemental nature, and whether adding not a second but a third "presence" might be a bad idea.
I don't think we've really seen any indication that those two elements conflict.
Hell with the degree of possibility Ashton can manipulate even with his barbarian class it might be a solution that allows him to hold both together.

And we've also witnessed during Imogen and FCG's excursion through Ashton's head the multitude of possibilities he is capable of.
But nothing more. Not even a conciousness of the Earth Empress in his blood.
There really isn't any evidence that the Luxon is light celestial or otherwise.
The Kryn mythology plays well in driving a rejection of the Betrayers because it's people are largely the races that were both worshipped and oppressed by them.
It's more of a blasphemy when you apply it to the Prime Deities. And despite what Ludinus may claim Ioun, the goddess of knowledge, was pretty forthcoming with Vox Machina regarding their beneficent will.

Chetney: Based on the HP difference between level 10 and 11 he rolled a 4. Level 10 Blood Hunters get Dark Agumentation. He gets 10 more movement speed and he gets a bouns to Strength, Dex and Con saves, which I think is 3 because he use Int. Rogue two gets him Cunning Action
Launda: She rolled a 5 on her hit die. She gets an ASI no matter what she took (Sorcerer 8 or Warlock 4), and it looks like she took a feat. But most importantly, Level 11 is when Cantrips get a boost. She gets three beams to Eldritich Blast and extra die to her other cantrips.
FCG: Rolled a 2 on the hit die. His Destroy Undead gets a boost and now has a Sixth Level slot. Any Cantrips get a boost too
Fearne: the Hit die gods hate this level, she got a two as well. Wildfired Druid 10 lets her get a sprit upon killing an enemy within thirty feet of her or Mister and it can deal damage or heal if someone moves into it, this is a reaction. Cantrips also get boosted and she gets a new one.Rogue two gets her Cunning Action
Imogen: Got a five on her hit die. She gets upgraded cantrips and access to level 6 spells
Orym: Rolled a 6 and gets Extra Attack Times 3
And Finally Ashton: Rolled a 3 on the hit die. But he also gets Relentless Rage, which means he can do a Con save when he hits 0 and stay up

It seems consistent that right around episode 70-75 of every campaign, I truly start to love the group. Also, there are always huge turning points in the stories right around the same episodes across campaigns.

Dude, Welcome! What do you think so far? I love Ashley as Fern. As much as I LOVED caduceus, it feels like Ashton is so much more suited for Taliesin. Same for Orym.. Caleb was my favorite character in S2 but seeing Liam almost play as himself in a way makes it so much more fun to watch and relate to

MAN matt has been really good about giving only neutral responses in the god debate but im so glad he introduced this perspective on the issue! abandoning the idea that the gods are perfect and are instead mirrors to people is not only just really interesting theology but ALSO gives more nuance to the in-game debate that goes beyond "hmph! the gods haven't done anything for me!!!😤😤😤"

It's easily overlooked through everything else, but that whole interaction between Laudna and Imogen at 2:53:41 was so darn sweet. Despite their own individual traumas, they're such a solid, constant presence to each other, and it calls back to the "you're my tether" exchange. I just love the two of them so much

theory: (SPOILERS OF THE EPISODE)
i think fearne will take in the remnant of rau’shan. ashton may try first, but realize that (especially with their unstable body and cracked brain) they won’t be able to hold both pieces of the primordials.
fearne is a wildfire druid and, comparatively to the rest of the party, has the least stakes in the main plot (aside from chetney). she was named as a ruidusborn arbitrarily, nothing has come from that thread. seeing her parents didn’t awaken anything specific in her. going to the feywild didn’t allow her to discover more about herself or come upon aspects of her home that could benefit herself or her allies in the future (aside from a half-decent piece of armor).
however, in (SPOILER ALERT FOR EXU) exandria unlimited, she got glimpses of an alternate world and a version of herself that reflected a possible future of her having consumed the world in a dark fire, so to speak. but instead of taking life in the form of a volcanic inferno, she chose to create it in the form of mister.
i say all that to say that, fearne was shown a world where her attunement to fire got the better of her, a world where everything was smoldering, wispy, and burnt to ash and cinder. (very specific motifs that remind you of a volcanic aesthetic, or at the very least a symbol of the aftermath of a powerful, unrelenting flame, no?) all that coupled with fearne’s penchant for making deals and interacting with strange powers (speaking of, teven klask… champion of asmodeus… asmodeus… god of the hells… the hells… a series of demiplanes mostly enveloped in razing flames… hm…) and her lack of a binding thread of the plot, i think she makes much more of a candidate for the powers of rau’shan than ashton.
i like ashton’s plot thread at the moment, but them solely collecting shards like dragonballs is cliché at best. them *attempting* to do that, but realizing and strengthening the powers that they’ve already got feels like better character development to me.
With the names I already suspected the Aishio to be based on Japanese, and after Matt started speaking Japanese I was sure!

okay but the shard of Ka'Mort turned Ashton into an earth genasi over the course of several years (presumably), so what would happen if they added the shard of Rau'shan? would he develop fire genasi traits as well, and if so, immediately or over time, and is that even physically possible? or would it just be a general power-up situation? what happens if they give it to someone else, would that person then slowly become a fire genasi?? would it be reversible?? would it be some future NPC or someone in bells hells?? what would happen?? and that's not even getting into the dunamis cocktail in Ashton's head and how that might affect everything and there's so much and I NEED ANSWERS
