What an amazing vlog. Loved it. Brought back so many fab memories of the weekend. I ran the race too but an injury and a bad chest meant my race didn’t go according to plan but I am proud I didn’t DNF. Your passion and enthusiasm comes straight through the screen. This has made my day Mark, thank you so much for the great feedback! Also HUGE props to you for racing with the odds against you and getting it done, that can’t have been easy! I hope you’re feeling better now. So great that you feel I’m connecting the elite and everyday runner worlds.. I honestly think we are all everyday runners in a way, no matter how fast you’ve run, at the end of the day it’s literally just one foot in front of the other right?
@@PhilyBowden thank u for the lovely reply. I could feel the excitement building through the screen. Massive congrats on your first marathon and an awesome time. Looking forward to following your journey on here and feeling inspired to get some good training in. 💕
There's just nothing like the marathon journey. It's everything really. Mental, emotional, physical, spiritual. All the training we do that lands on that one day. It's really special. Congrats on your first one! Awesome result. Legend with the no stopping for vomiting. hahaha.
It doesn't matter how many marathons you do that last 10k never gets any easier. The only difference is with experience you know it's coming. That feeling you get when you cross the finish line never gets old though. Congratulations 👏
@@PhilyBowden ha ha its funny how it does that. I always say it's like having a baby. You always say never again at the time but you always go back for more 😅
That was an amazing run and especially for a first marathon. The sense of achievement is overwhelming and a lot of its pride and takes a while to process. I've done lots of marathons and I still get that feeling. Super vlog too. Well done and I'll be following your journey from now on. There is nothing like a McDonald's after a marathon. 😄
Wonderful vlog! Thanks for sharing the whole experience! You are keeping me motivated as I grind through the final weeks of my marathon training cycle. Your abilities are incredible! I'm pushing for a 2:45... I can't imagine running at your speed! I hope to see more training and racing from you! Keep pushing!
Thank you that’s so great to hear that you’ve found my videos motivating!! 🤩 the final weeks are the best part, most of the work is done, good luck smashing that 2:45 barrier 👊🏼
When you put it that way... I could barely do that on a bike! Well, maybe in Sevilla with that little grade change it would be easier than my hilly hometown where I bike. But still!
What an experience in Seville for your first marathon. HUGE props for getting it done Phily, and what an incredible time as well! You should indeed be very proud of yourself.
well done, proud of you. I started running at 44, and stopped because of the covid outbreak in 2020 where i caught it and was bad for like 7 weeks. I started running again 2 weeks ago after i saw you running in another video. People like you are a great motivation for anyone. You can be proud and certainly your father must be proud of you . Totally with you on the experience, i ran my first marathon in October at the age of 56 years old. An amazing experience 3:54 was hoping for 3:40 but hey ho, that last 10k is a killer, times go out the window, all i could think about is. just finish. great vlog, and im looking forward to your next adventure , loving the vlogs.

Well, that was exciting 😱 Congratulations on your first marathon! I'm glad you were able to finish the race despite your stomach problems. 2:34h is an insane time for normal humans like me who finished a half marathon in 2:02h ;-)
Thank you Florian! It was an unreal experience 🙌🏼 haha I don’t think there’s such a thing as “normal” humans.. especially runners, we’re all a bit strange right?!
Exactly. And bikers too. Guess it comes with the natural drugs the body releases after a while..? We were once talking about our crossing the alps trip and my sister said to me: "do you even listen to yourself..? You just said you rode up that mountain in a relaxed pace for 3h with some breaks to take pictures. Relaxed pace. Uphill for 3h. 🤦♀️"

Hi Phily, I really enjoyed your video, great content and well put together. Amazing run, congratulations. I have subscribed, no pressure for more amazing content👍😂😂
Ooo I just noticed that you were running alongside an ex clubate of mine Geraint Williams (Swansea Harriers) there. We were both in Run4All Neath before, he's a flipping awesome runner too.
Great vlog Philly! Our pack was so strong and it really helped me get through km 22 to 30 but after that I decided to push on ahead thinking I was going to negative split but the opposite happened 😂 I remember you passing me around km 34 just before Plaza de España and had you in my sight all the way to the finish. You can see me struggling in the background at 14:17 😂 Kudos to you dad for getting some awesome footage of the race!
Ah Jasper we really did, I was so thankful for that group! I remember you overtaking me but don’t remember passing you again 😂 hopefully you didn’t get close enough to get sprayed in my vom at the end 😬 Thanks for saying “hi” in the race as well, I loved those race interactions

That’s awesome Jimmie! Hope your race went well, I also flew through Madrid on my way back to London on the Monday so we may have been on the same flight!
Really enjoyed the video Phily. It's wonderful to be doing something you love & be good at It too. 2:34 on debut marathon Is awesome. I'm wondering In hindsight would you have done anything different prior or during the event ? for example, you threw up during the race, could you perhaps have been more decerning about previous days dinner ? Maybe brought your own food rather than eating from hotel ? You were quite rightly particular about fuelling during the race , I'm wondering why not so particular prior to the race ?
I think the reason I threw up was because I’d never had that much fluid taken on in such a short period of time for 2.5 hours before - practised in training taking drinks every 5k up to 22 miles, but not at Marathon pace so would’ve been spaced out and not quite as much liquid (and nowhere near as fast for the whole thing). I always have just pretty plain to park pasta before the race which I had from a local place.. not sure dinner would’ve travelled so well in my suitcase with 2 days to fester before I had dinner! 😂
fantastic vlog. i get the point on the emotion, its very real when you do the first marathon. you've defo got me as a new subscriber. you should be so proud of yourself that's a bloody excellent run, take it easy 👍🏻
Your video came up again and yes I did watch it again 😊 your one of the people who inspired me to take up running again after a back injury over 10 years ago,I finished 1st over 50 in a 10km race recently so thank you Phily ❤
Top job! Loved watching this. A super slick edit. Your video perfectly captures the spirit of running a marathon and congratulations on a cracking time too! Loved your post finish line recollections: it's not a proper marathon debut without a good vom story. I'm guessing that by now you can do stairs, but I'd love to know how you're approaching recovery from the race and how you plan to start training again thereafter. Thanks for yet more inspiration and good luck with whatever comes next. You rock!
Thank you so much and glad the vom story was appreciated 😂 Yes finally I’m tackling stairs with more ease.. I’ll be sharing a video the week after next about my break/recovery after the marathon so keep your eye out for that!
Just caught up with this video last night. What a great weekend and performance. In fact you have inspired one of the Two Running Brooms, Dawn, to want to do this race in 2023. For context, Dawn ran a 2:56.02 as a 42-year-old back in 2006 at London, and more recently won the F55 category at the Chester Marathon 2022 in a time of 3:28.57. She would be looking for a GFA time to qualify for London 2024 as an F60. Your hotel looked very comfortable. Would you recommend it for comfort and convenience to get to the start area? Also would you have any other logistics tips for taking part in this race?
That’s amazing, yes Dawn you must do it!!! 🤩 it’s an amazing city (as I say a lot in the video) but a great, flat and picturesque marathon too! Awesome times, you must be finishing pretty high up in the age cat leaderboards?! Yes our hotel was ideal, we booked it quite late but was a short walk from the start and in the right side of the river too. Everything was pretty easy logistically, only thing we missed was we forgot to get cash out for the taxi from the airport.. they don’t take cards 😂
@@PhilyBowden thanks. I think I've even persuaded John out of his long time marathon retirement...😁 I do okay at club level in my age group and am always inspired by by others such as yourself! 👍
Well done I remember doing my 1st marathon and having a doggy stomach all the way around 🤕🤣 luckily after a few miles I soon forgot about it. Well done all the hard training paid off !
Thank you Chris! Not set in stone but I think an Autumn/Winter one this year sounds good. Weather was perfect.. especially compared to the scenes back home!
Hi Philly, I know this an old video but I was wondering I see you taking your inhaler please could you talk about your experience with asthma and running. I guess exercise isn't a big trigger as having to stop to use salbutamol during races I imagine would massively slow down your time and that you are also well controlled as I know running with a weeze would be hard
Phily just got a great link from Chris (The Running Guy) and watching your marathon I was thinking do you have a pacer to follow (I'm not offering me 🤣) but it must be so difficult to not follow a much faster runner - or are you glued to you Garmin like me... lol
I don’t have a personal pacer no, it was just about locking in to the pace I practised in training and trusting my internal clock (a bit of Garmin checking too.. but wary that GPS can be off among the big buildings!)
Brilliant - well done ! Do you have any tips on carb loading before ? I’ve started as I’m doing Manchester Marathon - sun 3 attempt on Sunday but there’s not many videos online about this topic! Thanks and good luck I. The future
Thank you! Eeek I fear this is too late as you’ll be tucked up in bed hopefully now ready for tomorrows race! But all I did was try to have carbs with every meal and maybe a few more mouthfuls than I normally would - advice from an experienced friend was to “never be hungry” in the 2 days leading up to the race. Good luck for tomorrow if you see this!!
I love that you included the wheelchair racers! I’m starting wheelchair racing but still watch normal racers videos but this is so awesome it feels so nice to see the racing community in a normal video! It honestly makes me feel so included! I Thank you for including that it so awesome!

I'm guessing that by now you can do stairs, but I'd love to know how you're approaching recovery from the race and how you plan to start training again thereafter. Thanks for yet more inspiration and good luck with whatever comes next. You rock!
Thank you so much and glad the vom story was appreciated 😂
Yes finally I’m tackling stairs with more ease.. I’ll be sharing a video the week after next about my break/recovery after the marathon so keep your eye out for that!
Delighted for you Phily! I bet that maccies was the best you've ever had 😁 Congratulations on an amazing achievement 👏🏻
Thanks Andy, yeah it’s probably up there as one of the best… should’ve been a Big Mac though I was still hungry 😂
Love your nails 💅 I think I will steal your color scheme for my upcoming race weekend 😉
Nails that match your shoes are proven to make you run faster 😋
Great race Phily!
Smashed it 👊🤘🤸♂️ , massive well done 👏
Thanks Carl 😄
Congrats on this huge achievement and the great time 💪
Just caught up with this video last night.
I think I've even persuaded John out of his long time marathon
retirement...😁
I do okay at club level in my age group and am always inspired by by others such as yourself! 👍
A remarkable achievement, well done!
Brilliant video & well done on a great time!
Thank you so much 🤗
Love love love this 💙
Thank you Bradley 🤩

what a great race weekend vlog. amazing achievement with your time. :)
Thank you Bradley glad you enjoyed it!
You’re doing very well keep going,
Well done I remember doing my 1st marathon and having a doggy stomach all the way around 🤕🤣 luckily after a few miles I soon forgot about it. Well done all the hard training paid off !
It’s gotta be something about the marathon that just sends the body into meltdown haha!
Wow, that was fantastic, congratulations!! Do you have your next marathon planned yet? 😃
Weather in Seville looked lovely as well.
Thank you Chris! Not set in stone but I think an Autumn/Winter one this year sounds good. Weather was perfect.. especially compared to the scenes back home!
Just subscribed. Already love your channel.
Thank you! 🥰
Well done!
Well done phily 🙌🏻
Cheers Adam!
@@PhilyBowden Thank you ...
That’s fast!!! 🚀
I really enjoyed watching this vlog and the race recap! Huge congrats :) Are you planning on racing another marathon this year?
Thanks Chloe! I’m focusing on the 5k and 10k for summer but hopefully I’ll do another marathon towards the end of the year 😁
Brilliant - well done !
@@PhilyBowden I’ve seen it and thank you Phily! Great advice and great channel! I’ll let you know about the sub 3 ☺️
3:09! PB by 55 minutes - thank you so much for all your tips on your channel and making it happen!
I am just here for the cat footage. Please more!
