Daniel and I are genuinely blown away by the response from you all to this video ❤ thank you all so much for supporting the channel and coming along for this ride!
What a fantastic and beautiful video! The love Daniel has for Phily shines through with the way this video was done. Phily, thanks for sharing your story and the lessons that you have learned through this race. Huge fan here of both you and Daniel! Keep on shining brightly you two!
Fantastic video. Never get tired of Daniel’s shouts of encouragement ‘come on Phily’! You looked great out there. We’re all in awe of a great performance Phily. On to the next challenge ❤💪
I never comment but this video deserves it. The ‘Running Channel’ podcast mentioned you did amazingly but missed your goal. I expected you to be a bit down straight after as it’s a hugely emotional time but your strength to see the positives is inspiring. (And it is all positive!) You come across as so down to earth but look yourself in the mirror and be proud- you are elite. The best of the best!
No one makes me wanna run like Phily Bowden!!! Another race video to binge when I need inspiration…so amazing to see your positivity…Daniel’s cheers are top tier as usual. LOVE THE GRIND
Well done, Phily! A PB is a PB and you fought really hard for this one. I know from experience (28 marathons) that some races are tougher than others, the pain comes earlier than expected. It would be so easy to give up then but you didn't! I'm glad to hear that you could be proud of yourself even during the race while the A goal was slipping away. Also kudos to Daniel for the stellar videography and support. You two rock!
You can see by the way that you are filmed that the someone behind the camera really loves you. I love your determination and love of running, but I think you have already won the game of life. ❤
maybe the best video from you folks yet. The race with the music blasting, the effects... really top notch. But the cherry on top is the attitude from Phily at the end. It's the kind of perspective that comes from wisdom and not just experience. Super inspirational for anyone about to race... or honestly, anyone doing something hard and stretching themselves to the limit. Amazing stuff.
Congratulations Phily! When you started running and we could hear Daniel cheering, I got teary-eyed because I've been watching you train, and it was the culmination of all your effort! Well done!! You two are amazing! Thank you for letting us go with you on this journey!
You and Daniel are really a dream team : between the production quality of the filming and editing (this is really such a great video to watch), the amazing, inspiring running and the insightful debrief... this is really unique ! 🤩 Congratulations on the race : this seemed so hard but rallying as you did is really no mean feat. You have so much opportunities during a marathon to let yourself be convinced to stop : so impressive that you didn't ! I'm sure the next one will be a great success and it will be thanks to the experience you gained there. But can we talk about the pacer who didn't pace ? What's that about ? 😮
Incredibly proud of you, Phily. And - in the words of the song - things can only get better. Huge kudos to @daniel for this video. Next level, Daniel. This one is next level.
I’m also in awe of you. You are an amazing human and I’m sad for you you didn’t get the time you wanted but you gave it everything and still felt proud and that made me proud of you. I think I tear up every time I hear Daniel show to you, he’s such a support. I want to see you in the olympics. You deserve it.
As many commentators have said, GREAT VIDEO! The quick cuts right before the start, brilliant. Also, loved that we could hear Kofuzi yelling “go Phily!” For those of us who have watched the journey, it was perfect! I’m sure many of us were worried about Phily’s state after the race because of the goals vs result and I can personally say I’m happy for her that she is viewing it as positively as she is. “We either hit goal or we learn” is my view with my athletes. Thank you for the inspiring content.
I have been following along with your Houston Marathon preparation block for the last several months (originally found you via your Running Channel appearance last year.) I was so psyched to see how you'd do in Houston, and when I looked up the results, I was thinking of you and wondering how you were feeling. I got emotional several times throughout this video. I'm currently on a small hiatus from running rehabbing an injury and have had to think a lot about setbacks and disappointments and things not going to plan in this sport. To be honest, I imagined you had a really sad reaction to your race results but was so impressed with your positive attitude and the way you took it. It's really inspiring to me and means a lot for someone who is an elite to have such a grace and pick themselves up again and really be proud of the work they did - this stuff is about so much more than numbers. I can't wait to see what you do next, and so happy you have an amazing supportive community around you that keeps you lifted up. Big respect and appreciation for your journey.
I’m proud of you! There are many running channels on you tube but you are one of my absolute favorites because of your attitude and honesty. With others it is purely about the training, you are the whole package and you lead with your personality. That’s what has drawn me in and keeps me motivated in my own training. Love the grind! The Marathon is a beast but you will tame it yet, I have faith in you. Daniel, this video is fantastic and sets the perfect mood for the race. It was over before I knew it as it had drawn me in completely. It deserves an award of some kind. Keep it coming.
Commenting for the algorithm! And also to say the editing for the race montage always gets me emotional, fantastic video guys!! Keep it up Phily and Dan!!
Had genuine chills during that hotel to bus to warm up to start line section. Music perfectly pitched those pre-race nerves, thought processes, x months of training and planning we all go through. Kudos.
This is part of process to become a better version of yourself, the most important is not give up and keep working. You are a great runner and your videos motivate me a lot, thanks for your videos! Hope you get your goal in the next Marathon. 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Go Phily!! Awesome job! You're a huge inspiration to me and it was so cool to see you take on the marathon through this video. I just ran a 2:52 at CIM and those last few miles are so fricken hard (although you ran way faster tbf)
A PB on a tough day is a huge achievement! 🎉🎊🏅 A few clips where it looked a little lonely in the race, can't wait to hear your thoughts in the recap Certainly worth waiting a few extra days for the video! 📽️
Great job Phily!! A PB is a PB no matter the time or circumstances! I also ran a new marathon PB in Houston (2:39). I really enjoyed your video series leading up to the race - it felt like we were “training together” - and I was eagerly awaiting this video so that I could finally close this chapter of my running career. Your videos are filled with important lessons about not only running, but also the mental component of the sport. I hope you’re able to enjoy some time to rest and recover with family and friends before getting onto the next grind 💪🏻
I don't watch this channel because of your results, but because of the process. As long as you give all you have I will be cheering for you no matter the results. If you win I will be happy for you, if you loose I will support anyway. #Lovinthegrind #LA2028
This is so Inspirational. I think everybody knows how Bad it can feel when you don't reach the goal, especially when you worked so hard an so long. But the way you can look at your performance is a true testimony for a worldclass athlete. Thank you so much. You are such an inspiration!
Wow! Amazing effort Phily! Your ability to work through that amount of pain and still get a PB is out of this world! Your mentality is also really inspirational! That’s definitely a healthy way to look and learn from a race. And can we talk about the quality of this video?! The production is next level, Daniel just upped his game!
Not every race is going to be your best but never quite because you will regret it. That’s what I tell my MS/HS ladies. That’s a very solid time and and you are right where you need to be. Love the channel and everything you do to encourage young woman around the world.
Hey Phily & Daniel you guys helped me get through a tough time in my life. Encourage me to run and start a UA-cam channel. I ran my first 10k yesterday and currently training for half marathon. Thanks for just being you Phily. Daniel did such a great job telling your story. “Love the grind!”
Sounds like you're doing a good job extracting the positives from a pretty hard day. When I saw your time on the Houston Marathon website the otherday, my first thought was "She can now say she has repeatedly run sub-2:30 marathons." I dunno, that just sounds cool.
Not every day can be a great day..so many potential unknown variables that can affect your race...some disappointment is part of the process...end of day you didn't get the reward your hard work deserved but you stuck with it...didn't fall off a cliff and consolidated...onwards and upwards ...well done
As the saying goes: tough persons get up as many times as they get knocked down. I checked the standings live and really proud you got in the finish with all the difficulties. A PB is a PB no matter what.
Most people strive to run a sub-4 hour marathon, and if they make it it's regarded as an incredible accomplishment. Phily is 1.5 hours faster than that. An incredible athlete and performance at Houston!! Next time you'll hit the Olympics!!
That's the really tough thing about marathons. It can be just kind of a slightly off day for unknown reasons, and that's the difference between an A goal and a C goal. I'm in awe of how you dealt with being a bit off, and still managed to get a PR. Can't wait to see what you do next!
You're amazing Phily. Thanks for sharing your journey. You have done so so incredibly well, another pb! Your qualifying time is in you, be patient Phily- you got this and we re right behind you. Love you both. 🎉🎉🎉
Well done phily! Battling through the end of a marathon that’s not going to plan is a tough mental game and it’s looks you handled it well. It’s a tough job when you only get to show off your hard work once every six months especially when the results isn’t what you want. Still a pb on a bad day can never be too much of a disappointment. And thanks to Dan, beautifully put together video.
This video is incredible for so many reasons - Phily's personality, hard work and determination and results, the video editing, showing all the work that's BEFORE the marathon to give it context, and the (honest, partially unhappy but still proud) reflection afterwards. Really great video, thank you for making it and congratulations on the gargantuan effort and PB!
I always forget how much concrete running there is on the Houston course. Brutal on the legs. And that wind was mean in the second half. You did what you could on the day and should be proud!
Better than most movies I watch!! 🙌🏻 Great job! Winning attitude! One day you’ll look back and realise what an important stepping stone this was in your running journey and what lays ahead of you 🚀 Autumn marathon opening…. 🎯 Onwards and upwards!!
This is still an impressive showing Phily!!! Just the idea that your "bad day" now is what your 10/10 day at your last marathon proves that your efforts are still making a difference. Love the grind!!
If you run a PB in a "bad" race in terms of splits then you are definitely on the right path. Congrats Phily. Και μπραβο Ντανιελ για τη καταπληκτικη δουλεια στο βιντεο.. 😁
I don’t think of myself as a runner, I’m just a guy who runs.., with all that. something about Philly is superbly special.., continued success ..keep getting after it.
Phily, I ran my first trail half marathon in the woods in -15° F weather a week ago because of you. You have inspired me so much over the years and getting through that race was the toughest thing I've ever done. All the aid stations water and fuel froze as well as mine so I was very dehydrated towards the end but I kept thinking about you and thinking "what would Phily do?" and finished it. You are truly amazing and an inspiration.
So proud of you! I was tearing up the whole time while you ran and Daniel was cheering you on 😢 I was really hoping you’d catch Leslie and Natasha even though I’m Canadian!! Top 10 finish is still something to remember especially with so many people there to represent their country. Keep grinding!
also, have to say that the race sequence -- INCREDIBLE editing. Felt like I was driving along the course and popping out to see you every few miles. The music. The cuts. Everything. So good.
Running a one off race is the toughest of asks - so much depending on 147 minutes. Non runners will find this difficult to grasp . It’s why I so admire sports people who get to the top and stay there . Perspective Philly - it’s almost certainly in there it’s getting it out at the right time . Keep positive, focussed and not regret things to did rather than what you didn’t ❤
Well done, Phily! Your resilience is massively admirable. To have the mental fortitude and determination to complete the race, even though it wasn't shaping up the way you wanted to, and then to get a PB doing so is incredible. Take that PB, own it, and keep your head held high because you worked damn hard for it. There's always next time, and I'm sure you'll spend time working out ways to change what you need to to turn your olympic dream to a reality.
So inspiring to see how you responded after the race, yes it wasn't the time you wanted but it was still a PB, a consistent marathon performance and lots of lessons learnt. Shoutout to Daniel for the epic video!
You’ve already won at life with your infectious personality, inspiration for running, and the best support in the form of a hero called Daniel. Everything else is a bonus. ❤
I ran behind you (by a lot) and missed my goal, too. Watching you run the same streets I ran was quite emotional. But your post-race processing was just so impressive - but honestly it was based on reality! You are ridiculously amazing!!! Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Have subscribed to your channel having watched several of your vids. For someone who has managed to drop from 20st to 11.5st over 18 months, train hard and now managing to do a half marathon in around 1hr 20 mins, you are an inspiration to those out there aspiring to better themselves and keep going no matter what the daily struggle may be personally. Well done, keep it up, I'm not particularly young myself but at 45 if I can complete the Great North run on 8th Sept at or around 1hr 20 then I will consider this an amazing achievement for someone who 18 months ago found it hard to walk a mile without getting out of breath 😊
Yup, still a proud parasocial momma bear, and you will always be a superstar. Your grit and mental and physical strength got you to a new pb. You had a hard race and you raced on through to a pb. Really am so very, very proud of you and you should be damn proud of yourself. Love ya Phily.
I get what you are saying when you thought it would take a couple of days to be proud of yourself. It was a Max temperature of 31°C on the day of the Sydney Marathon and I felt my time didn't match my training effort. It took a couple of days for the fog to clear and realise that my goal time was irrelevant when your body is hating the heat and I should be proud of finishing.
Easily one of your best videos, ever! Fantastic to be taken on your journey with you as you aim for new heights, what a weapon you are becoming! And edited in such a beautiful way, it's obvious how much Daniel loves you. Thank you
Rooting for you! When it gets tough next time you can look back on this race and know you can push through! Love how supportive Daniel is- you got a good one!
I've absolutely loved watching your journey Phily and your mindset and approach is genuinely inspirational. I know that's exactly how I want to approach every challenge, in my running but also my life. Thank you for everything you do and well done from the bottom of my heart!
Well done Phily - it's been amazing to watch your training and buildup to this race, and while you may not have hit what you wanted, we are all so proud of you! When following the tracking I could see that you were sliding behind the Olympic standard and wondered how you would respond to that - your positivity and honestly is so inspiring! And well done Daniel too, this video is so incredibly put together. Maybe a supportive partner is the missing ingredient for my next marathon! I can't wait to see what is next for you both, I hope that recovery is going well!
you are genuinely such an inspiration phily. i’ve never looked up to a runner as much as you and you’re positivity is incredible. you crushed that race but you even more so crushed any negativity that could’ve resulted from missing your goal time!!!
(I am posting this comment [from Australia] days after I watched the video, because I couldn't not comment, but I was watching on my TV so couldn't then) I just happened to be sitting down to my usual nightly UA-cam and this came up, as posted 15 minutes ago... surely not? I thought. Can't be out already! But it was, and from the beginning I was bloody hooked. Daniel, you told such a beautiful story through the filming and the editing, the music, all of it. Phily, you are amazing, and an absolute warrior. I can't wait for the detailed race recap, have watched the first 2 parts on Insta already 😅Anyway, nothing left to say but congrats on the PB in such a difficult race, and great video!
It's awesome how us, common folk can relate with elites on a human level. It's not that different for us. It still takes months of training and prep to get to the race day and there are no "do-overs" on a marathon. If you want to change something "for next time", that's a long time down the line. For me, effectively, it means "next year". The added pressure of this being an Olympic year must be hard to cope with for Phily. However, at the end of the day, what devastates us both, commoners and elites alike, is when you reach the finish line and you immediately think "I should've done this or that differently and I screwed this up, not reflecting what I know from my training I'm actually capable of". If you know you gave it your all, you walk away from the finish line proud and tall, regardless of finishing time. @Phily. Love the grind! Chin up! You inspire us all to keep it up, have fun, be healthy! Good luck with the Olympics (luck has nothing to do with it, luck = opportunity x preparation).
My daughter and I love seeing your progress, Phily! (Yank trying to get the one L right! I blame Philadelphia and their cream cheese.) Hopefully we can send you some encouragement and good vibes! Race results are a bracket-remove the outliers, real bad and real good, and you get that bracket. Your training and fitness seems to have (1) narrowed that bracket, decreasing the times between the back (slower times) and front (faster times), plus (2) moved that bracket down (to faster times). Result? Even a race you didn't feel was great-legs not great, having to fight mentally-resulted in a PB!!! I know you have a team you're going over the race with and I know you intellectually know all this stuff, but my kid and I just want to send you those good vibes and encouragement and let you know we see how you've progressed, we cheered you on (surreptitiously, during church, shhh!), and we'll keep cheering you on during your running journey! Thank you for letting us be passengers in your travels-you're an inspiration to my half-marathon running 8th-grader. We're huge fans and love what you do, and are excited to see how you progress and where you go next! Keep loving the grind! (Also, shoutout to Niamh Brown of Aldershot podiuming at the London Cross Challenge!)
through your mental toughness and unshakable mindset and constructive energy you have literally taught so many of us how to find the true love for this sport and every bit of wellness it has to offer, an invaluable gift. we are proud phily. the way you approached this block and this race was absolutely remarkable and inspirational beyond what any time alone could do. p.s. a PB is a PB. we go again!
well done Phily. Massive achievement to shave off a PB on a tough race day. You can prep as much as you want but every race day will always come down to a bit of how you feel and you only know that precisely when you are a bit into the race. You stayed strong and it showed. I had goosebumps the whole way through and on every training run leading up. Glad you got a rest day the day before. On the day you seemed a bit tired to start (let alone a 4am wake time). Most of all, I love that you run every day like the runner Daniel sees you are. Absolute elite mate. The time is in the pudding eh. It'll come, one race or another.
Way to go Philly! You're truly an inspiration for all of us. We are very proud of you and thanks for letting us be in your running journey! Shout-out to Daniel for being a boss with the editing.
You're actually amazing! If I'm mentally struggling on a run now I think "If Phily can master this, I can!" Honestly in love with how hard you work and your phenomenal attitude. Well done on another marathon success!
As someone also trying to get better at something, I am inspired by your commitment to your goal. Not every attempt results in glory, but the goal is still there and will drive you to succeed. Keep going.
New here, and to running. Glad I found your channel. Inspiring me to run my first marathon this year. Awesome, authentic content. Big shout out to Daniel too. LTG also means you get to enjoy the rest. You’ve earned it.
Daniel and I are genuinely blown away by the response from you all to this video ❤ thank you all so much for supporting the channel and coming along for this ride!
I think someone is getting an Oscar nomination for editing, and a Sports Personality Award for determination and inspirational to all generations.
Didn't even need to write a comment as this one was pretty guuudd
What a fantastic and beautiful video! The love Daniel has for Phily shines through with the way this video was done. Phily, thanks for sharing your story and the lessons that you have learned through this race. Huge fan here of both you and Daniel! Keep on shining brightly you two!
😢 thank you ❤
All the love for this video is very overwhelming thank you, thank you!! 🥰
Fantastic video. Never get tired of Daniel’s shouts of encouragement ‘come on Phily’! You looked great out there. We’re all in awe of a great performance Phily. On to the next challenge ❤💪
I imagined his cheers in my head on the parts of the course he wasn’t there and that honestly kept me going!
I never comment but this video deserves it. The ‘Running Channel’ podcast mentioned you did amazingly but missed your goal. I expected you to be a bit down straight after as it’s a hugely emotional time but your strength to see the positives is inspiring. (And it is all positive!) The editing of the races with Daniel’s incredible heartfelt cheers just gets me every time.

Exactly this comment! LOVE THE GRIND
Yaaaaaas GO FOR THAT RUN!! 🎉

Thank you, yes more to come on all of this in the recap video next week!! Including the mysterious pacer…

This one has me tearing up 😢❤
the race bit gave me chills! the editing gets better each video.
Phily you are a beast and can’t wait for yout next marathon… keep grinding!
So inspiring Phily, as always! Absolute chills and this legit felt like I was watching a mini documentary props to Dan on the editing 😁

Keep getting after it - Paul Radcliffe was 32 when she was World Champion. Love the grind.
I have never been more invested in an athletes journey than yours, Phily. Thank you for being so brave in these videos, it's so inspiring to watch.
Wow thank you so much, it means a lot! ❤️
Didn’t shit yourself and didn’t die, a great day at the office. Best tiny PB video ever. Love the grind..

Great Race Phily! I had no idea you were running that race too. I was pacing the 2:24:30 group and it was cool to see my pink shorts in your video.

That positive self talk post race was awesome. Video turned out amazingly
Wow! Amazing effort Phily! Your ability to work through that amount of pain and still get a PB is out of this world!
Your mentality is also really inspirational! That’s definitely a healthy way to look and learn from a race.

There's a lot of concrete on the Houston course. That's tough on the legs. Great job.

The hero's journey. True Olympian. Run with the gods. Sit at the cool kids' table.
That's the really tough thing about marathons. It can be just kind of a slightly off day for unknown reasons, and that's the difference between an A goal and a C goal. I'm in awe of how you dealt with being a bit off, and still managed to get a PR. Can't wait to see what you do next!
she is so mentally STRONG, I would been crying as hell at the end but she managed so well, real pro as she is
Holy heck Daniel, the editing! Was following the race on the app Phily - cheering you on from a distance!
And have to add its inspiring to hear you talk about your mental approach, there’s a lot of me to learn there!
Amazing mentality Philly! I've felt so emotionally invested in your journey to Houston. Wish you all the luck in whatever is next
Onwards and upwards!!
This is still an impressive showing Phily!!! Just the idea that your "bad day" now is what your 10/10 day at your last marathon proves that your efforts are still making a difference. Love the grind!!
"I'm proud of me too" - all your subs will be so happy to hear you say that after fighting so hard for it, you smashed it, Phily! 💪
Thank you guys for this video, this is fire
we're all proud of you
Thanks dude 🥺
I've run Houston. Thank you for that pre-race footage. i don't think any elite athlete had ever posted such pre-race footage, however brief yours was.
The music. The cuts. Everything. So good.
The way I got so emotional for you watching this. You are absolutely epic, Phily! Such an inspiration!
Hills and valleys before you reach your mountain top experience! Go Phily!
Thank you, it certainly hasn’t always been this way and this is the race mentality I’m most proud of! More to come 👊🏼
Amazing, in awe as Daniel said. You could do the Lima marathon as the course record is slower than your PB in the future. You have fans here!!!
All the feels from this video. Well done Phily and the one man hype team that is Daniel.
Your PB puts you top of the UK rankings for 2024!
Your partner is such a supportive, hope he sees this with all the work he does behind the scenes
So inspiring to see how you responded after the race, yes it wasn't the time you wanted but it was still a PB, a consistent marathon performance and lots of lessons learnt. Shoutout to Daniel for the epic video!
I'm in tears watching this. Inspired, proud and Daniel's encouragement is so moving x
Well done. Congrats! You ran a marathon faster than my half marathon time! Insane
The editing of the video and the build up of emotions …in tears by the start…and Im only watching..as usual great insights and loads of inspiration…
Daniels cheering gets my blood PUMPING
Well done, for sharing your goal, and your mindset. Good luck for the next marathon.
Daniel shouting for Phily makes me SOOOOO emotional every time 😭. This was amazing!
This has a perfect intro. Just having goosebumps listening.
My daughter and I love seeing your progress, Phily! (Yank trying to get the one L right! I blame Philadelphia and their cream cheese.)
Hopefully we can send you some encouragement and good vibes!
Drum n bass and Daniel's 'let's go phily' hits! Goosebumps. Well done
well done Phily.
