I feel your pain. I was so close to having to run a 3000 for exactly that reason. I was there to throw shot! Thankfully someone else stepped up in time.
I'm a cranky, old bat now, but even at my best I was never a runner, throwing events were my jam, though I did get thrown in the cross country teams, which I hated! I do love watching you run though. It's awesome seeing the behind the scenes of distance running and watching you constantly improve. You rock milady! 🤘
Nice win Phily, great sprint finish. Last time I ran a 1500m was 43 years ago aged 15, in a time of 4:19. You're right about going out hard, just a tiny bit behind the lactate threshold. A common session was 20 x 200m x 30secs with a job back recovery. Good luck on the next one.
I’ve always wondered if marathon runners can transfer or substitute endurance for shorter track events etc etc. I remember reading about Emile Zatopek the great Olympic runner from the past, who won gold in 10k, 5k and the marathon at the same Olympics . Amazing
Just like with the marathon, a 1500PB is all about even splits: 34, 68/69, 2:18, 3:27 and go nuts for less than a minute more. You can do it (my PB happens to be 4:19, I was lucky to have a friend pace to 1000)
Congrats on the PB! Crazy that you go all in that often. I think I never did anything so fast that I almost threw up. Luckily my lungs and/or legs go first and save the rest of the body from that ;-) Maybe I should try your chill speed to get that experience 🤯
I enjoyed this video and your race. Thank you. Also, as a person with a full-time job, I am in awe of your ability to work and run at such a high level.
Awesome performance. The best times we ever managed were 4:42 (John roped in to a track and field meeting for his club several years ago) and Dawn 6:07 as a F57 when running multiple events for her club (3000m, javelin and a 4x400m relay).
Well done I am doing my 10k race half marathon at colchester stampede zoo on Sunday 14th May I am feeling postivie and confident and I been going to the gym like 4 or 5 days weeks Keep myself fit and eating healthy i cant wait.
On 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!! Congrats!!!! I might have to try your race hair hack! My hair doesn’t seem to like tempos🤣did the last 1.5km today with hair annoying flopping round, 1/2 up, 1/2 down🤣 Speaking of “guess who’s back, back again”, love “loose yourself” as a pre race vibe!!! Also love “whatever it takes” Imagine Dragons!
This was awesome! Congrats on the PB/win!! I don't know how you guys sleep without ac, the wet flannel is a good tip! I'm a super light sleeper, I know as a kid I used to sleep without ac, but I don't know how I did it. Probably: not well.
Can you do a vid talking about the various shoes you use for running? I only have a pair of trainers, but I know people have certain shoes they like to use for speed workouts or races, etc. How did you choose the shoe you use? Are there standard classes of shoe for certain workouts, like people use X, Y, or Z typically for hills?
Dang.. Even though you missed out on breaking 4:20, that closing speed was intense. 4:19 was my PB and there's no way I could have pulled out that kind of speed. Fun to watch!
You had us all convinced, including yourself, that you weren't so great at 1500m distance, and then you went and won it! 😄👍🏻🏃♂️ Well done, Phily. It seems like being so close to 4:20 has you feeling keen to go again asap 😁
Better tip. Wet your t-shirt and turn the fan on. Funny whilst your having a heatwave we on the East coast of Australia are having the coldest winter in most of our lifetimes. 1 degree celcius in Melbourne the last 2 mornings. Had to hose ice of the windscreen yesterday! Not keen on that. My hands were frozen holding the hose.
Haha swap??? Tip for the windscreen.. leave a sheet out on your window and then you can remove it and remove the ice! Or de-icer but I doubt you have much of that in Oz!
4:21 is pretty decent for someone who is not a middle distance runner!! Shows you have a terrific base. Imagine what you would do with some sharpening speedwork :)
Smart race....go out relaxed towards the back and pick off runners to give you momentum....I always like the 880 yards run the best for that reason.....but but coach liked me in the 440 all-out hard die run.
Ps congratulations on ur Pb !! Ps I do that aswell but with a bath sheet !! ….. no I don’t …… I drape a cold wet flannel over my back works a treat ! X
@@dannyg2495 You’re welcome. Sometimes a snippet of music grabs you, especially on Instagram & you just have to track it down. In a similar vein, you might like ‘Flashback’ by Jeff Kaale. I believe it’s another free to use mixed up sample on a loop.
As much as it’s out of your comfort zone, I think you should consider doing more of these shorter races. It would improve your foot speed and help you feel more comfortable at faster paces in longer races.
Wow, you're adorable. Congrats on the PB. £1.50 is expensive? I can't remember the last time I paid under $2 for a cup of coffee here in the South (United States). Good luck. Subbed
Wow great stuff Phily! And with a paper bag pinned to you. Is that the cheapest ar*e bib you've ever seen ?😝👍 Enjoy the heat over there u guys. It's winter here in Oz. Can't wait for the heat again to thaw out!
The perfect distance for a speed session, if your training for a marathon. 1500m is an out and out sprint on the track, perfect for building speed endurance for longer race distances.
You ran 4:20 with absolutely no event specific preparation. You had a good run in a tactical UK 5000 championships. Why are you even thinking about a marathon? You clearly have massive potential at track distances (already a GB vest this year) and remember that just inside 15 minutes got into the World Champs 5000 final. With a winter's training geared to the middle distances on the track you could be in the UK team for next year's championships.
Appreciate the praise, but I also ran a great first debut marathon time this year and my rankings in the Uk for the 10k and Mara put me higher than my 1500 and 3000, I think I’m better suited to the longer stuff but still think it’s important to test myself over the shorter distances so I can finish fast
Just adding in some volume to the week as otherwise I would only have done one smaller (tapered) session and one short race as the hard effort for the week. Adding it on at the end rather than having a third hard day and keeping the hard days hard
Phily you are a pro. Try to imitate your cadence for 1km (downhill 🙂) is all what I have. You can run double as fast and further as me. Like your videos ceep it on greetings from Germany.
I have had to run the 1500m and 800m at sports day 2 years in a row because they were the longest races and not many people wanted to do them. Thankfully never again
Hey Philly, I've always wondered how long breathing stays fast after you finish running as you were still breathless talking to camera post-race, or was that after your victory lap?
Definitely not after a victory lap haha, it depends, I find that all out races like this leave you breathless for a good couple of minutes.. usually I dramatically lay down before talking to anyone but not on this occasion 😂
Needing a soaking wet towel to get through a "hot" night because it's 28 degrees C (82 F), as I watch this video from Phoenix, Arizona where it's currently 48 degree C (118 F). It won't cool down to 28 C until sometime in late November. But very nice running. Good form and mental strength as well.
I've been in Arazona over the summer and i can definitely say, the heat is completely different over here and we're just not prepped for the heat at all over here. The weather outside of winter is lucky to get past 10°C and rainy most of the year 😂.
Eh, it’s all relative! I’m guessing the buildings in Arizona aren’t build like the Victorian terrace I live in that’s made to retain every little bit of heat? Hope you have AC - 42 is no joke, we had that yesterday (hottest day ever recorded in the UK).
@@PhilyBowden Oh no! The air conditioner went out at this apartment (flat) a few weeks ago and I had to go three weeks without it. Miserable. I don't wish that on anyone, even for an hour or two. Maybe it's time for a tub of cold water beside the bed with multiple flannels.
