The latest generation of Volvo’s are simply smashing to look at. Now are they reliable? As an owner of a 2004 XC70 that we purchased new, the wagon has needed its share of typical expensive Volvo repairs over the years but let’s not forget the car is 15 years old with 148K miles on her. The turbo 5 banger runs like day one and the rest of the powertrain is perfectas well. The chassis feels like it’s ready for another 300K miles. Volvo For Life!
Beautiful car with an outstanding interior. If you appreciate comfortable and supportive seats, no one does it better than Volvo. They need to have separate climate controls from the touchscreen system. On a hot day, no one wants to wait while the system boots to turn on the air conditioning. A combination of the right physical buttons with a touchscreen is a good way to go.
The climate control comes on before the screen and the controls only take about 20 seconds to be available, so it's not really an issue (speaking from experience with my 2019 XC90 T8).
@@looncraz Thanks for the update from an actual owner. I'm glad to hear that Volvo is listening to their customers and the new processor has sped up operation.
There is so much Volvo 1800 DNA here, I love it. From the almost oval grill, to the c pillar and rear quarter panel. Now if there was only some way to reposition that Volvo logo off the grill!
I would have loved to see the safety suite offered by Volvo. They talk big about it. Also would like to see how is that different than what is offered by competition. With luxury vehicles we expect it to be nothing but the best.
I don't know Zack, I think the base front-driver will sell. Remember the plethora of FWD S60's that were sold in the early 2000's? They probably outnumbered the AWD S60's 2:1 here in Calgary, and that number was likely more on the West coast were you are. Yes, that was a different time, but people are also starting to realize (finally) the criticle roll actual snow tires play in keeping their cars safely on the road in the winter... More so than AWD.
Great video. I agree that it makes no sense why they wouldn't make AWD an option on the T5. There are many people who need AWD depending on where they live so a vehicle not having AWD is a serious dealbreaker. Snow tires and FWD only go so far. AWD with snow tires is where it's at. I think the reason the SUV boom is so out of control is because on a CUV/SUV you're able to get AWD on base models with no other options.
FYI: The R sport seats are comfortable IF you have narrow hips as the guy doing the review. If you're a bit larger or a big dude, the seats are very uncomfortable and dig into your thighs. The regular seats in the Momentum and Inscription are much more comfortable. This is true also when sitting in the SUV's. We wanted the XC40 R so badly, the but the Nunbuck sports seats are hard and uncomfortable. IF you go to test drive any of these vehicles by Volvo, make sure you try both the sports seats and compare them to the normal seats before you purchase.
I have a 2015 Mercedes c 300 but I didn’t get the awd and I’m an idiot because I live in northern mn. This looks like a very good choice for the next car .. just don’t know if I want to say that I own a Volvo lol
Just got ours from a dealer in Arizona. Both Apple Carplay and Android Auto are installed, as is the ability to download several apps, and at least in our car, update the maps for free, using WiFi or the installed AT&T SIM card, the latter at an extra monthly cost. The Bowers and Wilkins soundsystem is phenomenally clear, with good low frequency response when the material requires it. It is really good for most music, but designed more for accuracy than shaking the windows of nearby cars. The instrument placing and soundstage are particularly enjoyable. There is nothing like a Volvo!
I love they're design and I drove the S90 but had to swap out twice because they're shitty infotainment system kept breaking but hopefully they fixed it in this model
On some Australian review was mentioned service cost 3200$ per 45 000km. I would choose Volvo because it got nice style and design, rear is pure Volvo style and some people will not fancy. I personally don't like it on S90 but no S60 all rear side of the car looks well shaped and fit to the car nicely. A time ago I would be eager for Audi A4 but not any more. Audi is getting boring, all Audi cars are like one range, plus design lost that for me typical Audi spark. Those Volvo seats are more like chairs on video game room. What I like about Volvo next to all that have been said is VOLVO factor. Volvo as brand is perceived by other drivers as no aggressive, peaceful, stylish. For me is extra point over Germans, specially BMW! VOLVO = step out of the crowd
It is a really good car i really like it because it is not a long car like mercedes c classe and audi a4 in my mind Guys what about you is this s60 a long car ??
I just stopped by our new Volvo dealership. What I saw there I liked, but they were all SUVs (a handful of new but mostly certified pre-owned). I was looking for a R-Design S60, but nowhere in sight... I'm so tired of SUVs. I want a slick looking sedan or coupe again. Volvo needs a Coupe to finish off their line-up. If they had one, I'd buy it. You can't beat German dealer lots, there's everything there, coupes, cabriolets (convertibles), sedans, four door coupes... It's endless... So come on Volvo, if you're so hot, be more diversified in your choices of vehicles!!
I had this very same dilemma. Ended up with a Stinger GT2 AWD. Like Zach says of the Volvo, the Kia is definitely also a counter culture choice, places a high emphasis on design both inside and out, and is a value play in the premium segment. The Stinger has more elements of extroversion though, while the S60 more consistently tries to keep it classy. Test drive both and I promise you one will speak to you more.
That's because they just switched to a brand new platform a couple years ago. Almost every manufacturer has issues with a brand new engines for the first few years. The kinks have been pretty much sorted out within the last year.
None of those issues were with the main systems (engine, transmission, suspension, steering, braking, eAWD). The main issues were related to the infotainment system. It's sad when a glorified radio is basically the only thing holding your quality rating down... considering you just do software updates to fix the problems, I think such problems shouldn't be weighted so heavily. I mean, if you weight an engine failure the same as a frozen infotainment system you aren't really doing it right, IMHO...
Not likely, Volvo has significant experience with high performance, high compression, turbo engines... many decades worth. The supercharger loses legs at higher RPM and becomes disconnected. If the disconnection fails there's also a bypass valve which is used to taper between the turbo and the supercharger. AFAICT, the turbo won't engage in the event of an issue with that system as the computer puts the car into limp mode, limiting RPM. Probably opens the wastegate as well. While you have both a supercharger and a turbo that could fail, both are high reliability components by their nature and Volvo uses very high quality parts on top of that. The block, rods, pistons, rings, valves, head, etc.. are all built to handle well more power than the supercharger or turbo can deliver, though there's always the chance of a component failure.. such as the wastegate actuator... but any serious over boost situation should immediately result in a fuel cut, reducing boost.
Supercharged...Turbocharged....I see this car in the shop often with the Chinese mechanic scratching his head trying to figure out how to repair it. Good luck with that.

Volvo has the most comfortable seats of any car brand. Very firm seats with the right amount of cushion for hours of comfortable driving.

Excellent review, as usual. I received the wagon version when at a rental in Vancouver and absolutely loved it. The sedan has gorgeous lines too.
Hi Zack, maybe you could edit the part at 4:30 where you say it's using a ZF. It is no, Volvo uses Aisin I think.
Sorry guys I might have missed this. My bad
It's from japan. Lexus use it in some models.

Does it have any materials or parts used that is chineese made ?
Not it’s first NA built car - Volvo used to have a factory in Halifax until 1998
In Europe we have the T5, the T5 AWD, T6 Twin Engine AWD and the T8 Twin Engine AWD

Yes. Temporary spare included. We got a flat the same day we bought the car and the spare came in handy, after we aired it up to the required 60 psi.

Hi Zac,

Going back to the question I asked couple of weeks ack on Instagram, this or A5 Sportback? ( for lease)
This is nice but I prefer the Audi because of the MMI system and I like the way they drive. Try them both.
