My late mum use to always put tea towels on my drums when I was a kid in the early 90's. 1) It was to stop the Ring and 2) because it sounded more like Ringo, maybe thats where he got his name, The Ring goes. Whenever I hear that sound I think of her, RIP Mum. ♥
Apple studios engineer Geoff Emerick did the ‘Ringo’ on my kit with tea towels for the Stealers Wheel album after I had first detuned the kit.The source for this was actually McCartney and producer George Martin who worked on Ringos’ kit for the Beatles’ albums to get that unique analogue controlled sound.
Its really up to the song! So take notes young ones. Not every time you have to put all of your bedsheets on the drums. Also don’t forget to tune again. Its all about balance.
I don't think I've ever heard Steve Jordan sound bad, but I feel like the engineers let him down on this one. Kind of a muffled, anemic sound (no, not because of the towels) with weird, clippy peaks. Too bad, appreciate the video though!
I think he tries to portray a "brand" with his clothing choice. Back when he started he was far more "toned down" and wore working man brown trousers and either a dark T shirt or collared dull colored work shirt. I guess touring made him think more fashionable??
Steve Jordan IS my favorite drummer. The groove, the pocket that this man brings is ALL that !!~
I see a picture of Steve Jordan with blankets on his drums, you know I got to listen to that.

Spot on ! I tell my students this weekly. You go into a completely different mind set depending on what kit you’re playing.
I remember first watching Steve Jordan play on the Letterman show 40 years ago! Fantastic pocket!
❤❤I love Blackbird and I love Steve Jordan
Amazing musician. Steve is a legend.
Dude has such a great vibe, is open to try new things and lays down serious grooves every time. Love watching and learning from Steve Jordan!
Sounds awesome.
I love that kick!!!!!
That was smooth! Love it!

0:35 Ringo's in the house🤣🤣🤣...!!!! Love it!! Edit: The groove is and will be called Steve forever. Jordan and Gadd.
what an inspiration this man is!
So damn dope!!
My drummer idol forever 🤟💪👍
Yassss! Ringo in da' house! Tea towels are 🔥🔥🔥 on certain songs/tracks.
Its really up to the song!

The hihat part of the groove is where it's at.... It's like the slightest shuffle feel being thrown in.
What a cool dude 😎
Sounds good : )
GOAT
groooooove 4 daze, i've never really heard him talk... wow, playin BUTT end, love IT
Cool how he improvises with a “lost towel“ and then repeats the outcome.
Fuck man, Steve can lay down a groove as wide as a road!
Steve puts the bad in the badass
Steve Jordan. instant click, like,🤩 & sub!!

What's the model of the crash on the right the taller one?
20" Paiste Masters Dark Crash
i see SJ on a kit talking OR playing... I click.
One of the greatest drummers ever. But he is dressed like an undercover cop.
Too funny!
Needs More Towels:) Gotta luv SJ
Now that is some Stink, Stanky, Sticky Icky Funky azzz Funkk!!
Is that a Rogers he's playing?
C12 on hi hat is the biggest flex
Right?!
ive seen john mcbride use a c12 as a snare bottom mic. he has probably the best mic collection in this hemisphere.
@@theethanatorem
Indeed he does.
Is there a Full video of Steve?
Check it out here: insideblackbird.com/series/rolling-with-steve-jordan-drum-techniques
Is he a big Paul O-Neil fan? Whats with the #21?
❤
Blues Brothers !
is that like a 251 or something ridic on the hat mic!
C12, just wait till you see what’s on snare bottom 😂 (U47)
@@rebeliirecords9189 dear lord
Is that a C12 on hihat?!
Really important hi hats, I guess!
what are the cymbal models here in this clip?
Paiste Masters. Really amazing cymbals, especially for recording. I have hats and a crash.
@@tonedowne beautiful! thank you
He chose to wear this outfit in 2024
😇
A sideways hat?
Channeling Flava Flav 😅
Cause he's the man
He's dressed like it's 2004
Bello/Magnifico.🎂✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️
Lenny Kravitz used on till its over?
Rogers drums?!!!
Sounds amazing but would have also been cool with less room in the mix
Crazy to think he’s a stone!
Then one wonders - why bother about premium heads at all?
So many drummers do this today. Soon you'll be looking to buy the latest Ludwig with tea towels hanging down. Can't even see the drum or grain.
Would’ve been cool to hear the drums without the towels a bit.

I’ve seen the wallet a bunch but never a towel over the whole drum!
What year was it when you found the pocket just wondering
I remember the day I found it
Take out the room mics and enter 1973
Guy is dragging bad
he is currently on tour with The Rolling Stones. is there anywhere i can hear your superior musical prowess?
mix does not do justice...
2006 ass outfit hahaha
This is where cheap and expensive sets, all sound the same…
Except for the cymbals 😅
Why cant I comment? I never said anything wrong. Just Jesus is Lord and banned?
Looks are deceiving 😂
Steve is a great drummer, but that cap looks ridiculous!🤣

@@Nagroddy He’s not 10yrs old!
When you have that pedigree & talent, you can wear whatever you feel like. Stevie can back it up. Carry on….
This is ridiculous why not just play on a carboard box
Ever heard of moongel??
Moongels work great, however not the same effect as demonstrated here
Doesn’t work anything like tea towels
@@scottapthorpe6172 add moongel and loosen the bottom skin.. youll get it
Moongel is this🖕
Do what now
Not a fan of that sound.
