The many styles/shades of drumming are not mutually exclusive. A fine drummer is like a fine piano player or singer. I've slowed my rolls w/time; out of age (66 yo) or injury (carpal tunnel, back problems). Jazz; R & B; Rock, is all good. Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, John Bonham, Bernard Purdie, Steve Smith, Sonny Emory, Michael Derosier, Stewart Copeland. Eric Moore!!
Exactly what The Stones need. A reliable rhythm machine that they can lean on. Steve has got what it takes. You don't need to be a Thomas Lang to play in the greatest band ever.
Keith once said that he feels free on stage with Charlie drumming. So if he worked with Steve at his solo projects then he will have a lot of good time. I note that Steve drumming is so different from Charli but it is bluesy so fingers crossed.
love this . A drummer that plays a groove. Every time I watch these new cats play, they just over play to the max . Steve thank you brother for playing some grooves.
CLIP 14 07:14 omg that groove is deeeep!! Anyone knows the name of that song (I cant remember it), and also the name of this project? And omg 10:27 is that Bruce Willys holding a drumstick (also on 10:28)?
His playing is not virtuosic technically speaking but his feel is the thing. Ya need to have "good musical ears" for the music to be a consistently outstanding and complimentary drummer. Steve's that kind of feel good player from the heart that attracts many professional musicians and fans alike. Awesomeness🥁
Mr. Meat & Potatoes. I read an interview, a number of years of ago, in maybe, DownBeat, with Jordan, and he described how to play in the pocket. I was doing a few blues gigs at the time and after I got that down, I was first call for most of the Blues gigs in town.
@@morbidmanmusic Dude, what are you talking about? This is a drum compilation video. I am a teacher and I absolutely understand the issue of school shootings, but this is not the time nor place.
Steve is a very smart guy.. he realized decades ago that getting your name out there as a solid funky time keeper the phone would ring a lot $$$$ .. On Top of that you never have to Woodshed Like The CHOP FAST Guys.....plus he knows how to say POLITICALLY the right things...& Don't Forget The Clothes "The LOOK...".Hes a GREAT 1 Trick Pony....
@11:44 Just a great example of restraint. He could have played a million garbage notes during his solo but in the end he chose to stay in the pocket. This is why he is my favorite drummer.
Somebody once told me a long time ago, when I first started playing drums professionally. They said if you're good play the snare drum on the 2 and the 4. If you're real good you will play the bass drum on the 1 and 3.
The one at 1:00 where he says "Now that is it!" sounds sooo familiar. I know I've listened to it many times, but can't remember on what. It really bugs me.
Big beat bands like The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers sampled it, but I'm thinking of a guitar track I think. A live band for sure. I'm sure there are many, but I need to find out which one is bugging me.
Keith was quoted saying "No Charlie, No Stones" He and Mick should honor that. There's a reason Led Zeppelin retired when John Bonham passed, he was not replaceable. Jordan is a fine drummer, so are many other professionals, but the Rolling Stones need to do right by Charlie and retire now. He was not replaceable. RIP Charlie Watts. 🙏
That is for me not the truth!! Charly had his only style,Steve has it 's own too,-i think Steve's part is more musical and groove-feel and of course uncopyble!!!
@@jorgulich3308 Steve is playing cover songs, any hired gun can do that. Charlie was the one who originally recorded all those iconic drum parts for all their famous songs. No contest.
Steve start this compilation with a Yamaha D20 from '68 or '69. I have the same, and same color... real good drum, and Steve one of the best! 😎 I'm double happy discovering this video, thanks!!
Steve played with Keith Richards in The X-Pensive Winos. As long as Keef and Mick are able to function onstage, and Steve Jordan is available, the Stones will go on. Charlie Watts will be sorely missed, but he wouldn't begrudge Steve for replacing him.
So good. He said "Simplicity is not stupidity", which has stuck with me.
That hits deep
'Fills are for thrills, but groove pays the bills'. Thanks for sharing. Steve is the master!
Clip 14 gave me total goosebumps
I love his style, simple, tight and technical is were it's at. Nothing worst than a drummer flying around the set with rolls.

That first shuffle has to be one of the best shuffles I have ever heard in my entire life.…. Shufflelonius Monk
This channel is a gem
He’s the epitome of a drummer. Providing a groove and keeping time & not just flying around the kit.
It is very easy to imagine this man playing with The Rolling Stones because of his time, feel and sound - good choice, the Stone boys!
Keith once said that he feels free on stage with Charlie drumming. So if he worked with Steve at his solo projects then he will have a lot of good time. I note that Steve drumming is so different from Charli but it is bluesy so fingers crossed.

Smashed the like button before it even started because Steve Jordan.
Literally did the same thing and then instantly saw your comment, lmao. Steve is a big time influence.
Me too!
Thank you for putting this all together! Great compo!! I’m on a HUGE Steve Jordon kick right now and this served it up 🙌

Nobody drives a groove like Steve Jordan!
I am so impressed by his control of the hi-hats dynamics.
This dude is locked in..... One of if not the best pocket drummer out there!!
The old blues Brothers albums we’re just killer and filled with chops. Over the years Steve Jordan has evolved into the pocket prince.
Who's the king?
King Gadd of course
@@spamh1409 haha yeah man gadd is just the thing isnt he?!
One of the best pockets in the world🔥🔥
What a funky blues man Steve is...
The hardest part of his drumming is staying disciplined. props to this man.
I would say the hardest part is keeping consistent space between the notes
Loved that vintage Rogers kit what a beauty
Holy shit. Where have I been. This guy is siiiick.
nasty groove at funky joe's
The groove and music from 7:07, who can not dance to this. Oh yes there is that 2.

Doing God's work by putting all of these clips together. Thank you!
no.. doing his own work. Why would a god be concerned with this when children are dying in school shootings? Makes NO sense.

Anyone know that band at 7:25??? Shittttt that stuff is crazy good!! Funky Joe's is right
Earth Wind and Fire!!!
4:05. Plays more on kick, snare, an hihat than most drummers on a full kit.

he couldn’t, he is not that type of drummer. He is famous for grooving not soloing
So catchy and groovy, can’t wait so sit and play after watching this
Thank you for this. I can listen to this all day! My favorite drummer.
Any details on the band/show at 6:33? Looks and sounds like Warren Hayes and an Allman Brothers thing but I want to watch more of that

Bohnam fan I’d say. Loves this guys playing
To be a good drummer most people work on locking in with a band or a metronome Steve Jordan locks in with the sounds that he plays
Love steve jordan man. On a side note, how the hell can that rogers kick drum support that big ass ride and tom? 6:08
He’s a beast behind the kit!
anybody know where clip six is from?
Such a mean shuffle
