Pretty sure it was beacuse Grandpa Gohan (with halo) said that he wouldn't have much time left to live anyway, so he told Goku to not waste his wish on him. Although, I can be wrong, I did not watch the OG DB for a long time.

@@ChromedDomes I wouldn't say DB was futuristic, at least not at first. It occupied this nebulous space where it was clearly a fantasy meant to evoke ancient China in setting, but then it throws in these ridiculous pseudo-sci-fi elements like the capsules and motorcycles and the like. It wasn't until Z that they started introducing aliens, space travel, time travel and such (remember that Piccolo was introduced as a demon at first, and him and Goku being aliens was a big twist). Not to mention that, canonically, all of the DB timeline takes place in the eighth century (around 740 AD to be precise) despite all the fancy tech being used.
I guess the difference is that DB is timeless and can't really be placed into a specific era, whereas Evolution is... yeah, pretty clearly just real-world 2008.
@@GamingintheAM0801 I didn't necessarily mean futuristic, just couldn't think of the word. But yeah, the timeless part of it is true. And also, flying cars 'N shit in DB wasn't this weird ass nitro truck or whatever, it was just kinda a car that...goes up.
Also, something I just noticed is how all of the Tv's are like 30 years old, while also having super realistic, planet busting Cyborgs that they weirdly call Androids.

But in the movie, everyone else drives a normal car. Well, there is Bulma's capsule trike. But since she is Bulma, it is probably a prototype.
Fun Fact: The guy who played Piccolo in this played Zamasu in Super. And he was great imo. Talk about a redemption arc.
The best part of the movie was the after credit scene were they show that piccolo survived they really thought they were gonna get a sequel.

Original Kid Goku: Sheltered country bumpkin who has incredible strength from his genetics being from a warrior race built for combat, a bit aloof at times but that's to be expected as he was raised by a hermit and lived so far outside of society he didn't even have a concept of girls existing let alone them being different to boys (also he was like 8), he's also very quick to rush into a fight and was incredibly skilled in picking up martial arts and combat skills again due to his genetics being superior for fighting, and usually he'd be seen with a big smile on his face eating 30 bowls of food
Movie Goku: Winey little hormonal teenager who looks like the guy we all knew in highschool who wanted to be Sasuke in real life, and gets bullied and beaten up, who has no sense of humour and never looks like he's having fun in a fight which is literally Goku's favourite thing to do outside of eating and training (when original Goku was a little kid his skin and bones were so naturally tough he survived being crushed by a speeding car and a bullet at point blank range bounced off him leaving him with a scrape and a bit of bleeding, oh and did I mention he was lifting the car when he got shot?! By the time he was 16 Goku was probably already the strongest fighter on earth, if he was being "bullied" he probably wouldn't of even noticed, and by the time you went to punch him he would of already moved out the way, caught your fist and began to throw you while telling you "hey it's not nice to hit people when they're not looking if you wanted to fight you should of just asked!").
The biggest disservice is they didn't give Roshi his signature sweet shades or his pet turtle
Lastly it's super funny cause Piccolo actually had white make-up on in the film and they corrected it to green in post which is one of the reasons he looks so weird and his actor actually went on to voice Zamasu in the dub of super like in an act of merciful redemption he did something good related to Dragon Ball

I'm sorry, but Chichi did NOT trick Goku into marrying her. Both of them were under false impressions thanks to silly misunderstandings that gets cleared up during the tournament. Yamcha explains what marriage is to Goku and he proposes anyway. Goku definitely doesn't understand the full implications of what he's doing, but Chichi isn't taking advantage because she doesn't know how naive Goku is. I feel like the Fandom does Chichi so dirty 😔

Okay so its been forever since I've seen the show but didn't Goku think marriage was something he could eat? Then after meeting each other again in the tournament Chi-Chi gave him the cold shoulder then yelled at him for not coming back for her? Goku did say yes but it felt forced.

Chichi yells at him for not only forgetting that he purposed, but not remembering her at all. Once Goku tells her he thought marriage meant "something to eat" she understands but is heartbroken. She is shocked when Goku does propose, so it's clear she wasn't trying to manipulate him. In the anime Goku even says "sometimes my mouth doesn't understand what my brain is saying... good thing my heart does. Chichi will you marry me?" (or something like that). Goku also turns down the offer to be earth's gaurdian to be with Chichi and says "it doesn't get any better than this!".The Manga just makes it seem like an casual decision for Goku lol. Either way I don't think either one of them knew what they were doing. They were basically kids at the time, so when you think about it, its actually impressive they manage to make it work

The guy who played Geeku actually read the entire manga of Dragonball and DBZ, but since the executive decision to not follow the source material at all forced him into not actually playing Goku as he was in the anime and manga, he phoned it in because what would be the point anymore.

Also, read somewhere that the guy who played Piccolo did the same. And was a fan of the anime too. And because of it, his character got some changes to the costume. It's concept was going to be a lot different.
Despite all the suckiness, I always thought it would be kind of cool if they had Goku turn super saiyan 4 when he forcefully took control of the monkey form and turned back human, because that is basically what they need to do to turn ssj4 according to GT, and that would have explained better how it seemed like he got a power boost to fight Piccolo.
you know that goku’s body is covered with hair in ss4 right? I think ss2 gohan would be great in my opinion :)
In the start of dragonball goku couldn't actually fly. It learnt it later when the crane school (tien and chaotzu) came into the story; because it's one of their signature abilities. Goku also cannot jump fly very high at the start, since that's a skill he learnt from roshi when training with Krillin.
Which is why roshi can't fly. It's a rival school that he refuses to learn from.

Tbf a few things:
- Piccolo did travel by airship in the Dragonball series: It was Pilaf's airship.
- Piccolo (the later rendition in Dragonball Z) could actually move and crush mountains with telekinesis. So to say that Piccolo uses "the force" is actually canon somewhat ^^; It doesn't make sense in the movie, I'll agree, it could've been done a lot cooler, but still, it technically follows Piccolo's powers.
- Third: Goku at this time in the Dragonball story could not fly, after meeting Master Roshi he got the Flying Nimbus which was the only way he could travel airwise. He actually sat on the back of Bulma's bike quite a few times and also traveled by car in the early days of Dragonball
- Fourth: Piccolo actually does spawn monsters from himself (through eggs, not blood) to combat Goku.
- Fifth: The "Evil Containment Wave" is called the Mafuba in the show as well
There's plenty to find wrong with this movie, a lot actually, from the wooden acting to the terrible plot to the just complete disregard of the actual Dragonball story, but those things are still somewhat accurate ^^; Seems you need to brush up your knowledge of Dragonball again c;

I feel like adding Krillin to this movie actually would have been better. Like, just give all of the traits they gave Goku in this movie to Krillin, while Goku is just a guy who likes to train and fight. Krillin is the one who pushes Goku to be cool at school and try to pursue Chi-Chi, while Goku doesn't care much, which feels like it would fit both of their characters well enough.

The funny thing about this whole movie is that the Director admitted himself that he had never read a single chapter or watched a single episode of the original source material before, and basically just guessed half of the Movie. Anyways, I like to have a "positive" view of this Movie, it was so freaking bad, it pushed Toriyama to come back and he did DBS.
The only cool thing about this movie is that the name of the actor who plays Goku's bully is actually 'Texas Battle'. I kid you not. Thanks Riff Trax.

I always had this theory that this movie was originally going to be about Gohan. Like think about it: high school, the talk about being nonviolent, Chi-Chi feels more like Videl then Chi-Chi, even the actor sorta looks more like Gohan and Goku. I think they changed it because Goku’s obviously the more popular and iconic character and they didn’t bother to really change the story to accommodate the different character.
Ah yes Goku. The guy who was tricked into marriage, has two kids but never kissed his wife, and decided to train instead of spending time with his family any time he could. Truly a romantic.

On the flying part, Goku actually didn’t learn how to fly until after he was already a full grown adult. I don’t remember exactly when but it wasn’t until DBZ while this set during Dragon Ball. Until he learned how to fly he used flying Nimbus who he got from Master Roshi after helping the turtle get home. Also the Bulma/yamcha romance is actually legit, they immediately were into each other right away except Yamcha was actually scared of her in a shy kind of way. So somethings were right just set at the wrong time period
He was still a teen when he learned air dance. That was during the time he trained at kamis. Which is in dragonball not z.

He was still in his late teens I believe, would’ve been around the time he was graduating instead this seems like he was supposed to be 15 or 16 in this movie. @@sean_mccadden hmm, i was fairly certain goku couldn't really fly until his fight with vegeta. sure, he did do some air manipulation during the 23rd tenka-ichi budokai, but he's still always using the nimbus to fly around until his fight with vegeta, indicating that he still couldn't fly by himself at this point. not to mention, if he could fly at that point, he would have had a much easier time traveling snakeway and wouldn't have needed to run the entire way.

When I was younger and considering getting into Dragon Ball, this was the first thing I found. I saw it at my local library and thought to myself "Hey maybe it's a good introduction to the series." Tried to watch it twice, fell asleep not even halfway through it both times. This movie almost made me not become a Dragon Ball fan, had it not been for reading the OG Dragon Ball manga in high school and my fiancé helping me get more into the series, I would have abandoned it altogether.

I think Piccolo's actor was alright. He was the only one who had actually read the manga, and he said even before the film came out that he hates what the script did to his character.
If I remember correctly, the actor had to argue to get them to make Piccolo green.
All they had to do to make this movie more accurate was to make the movie about Gohan instead of Goku. The Goku we got was more like the Gohan we ended up with as a teen and Chi-Chi is so Videl like it's uncanny. Plus we could get a live action Mr. Satan, which would be hilarious.

the character ernie hudson played is a version of master Mutaito who was master roshi's master centuries ago, the one who created the evil containment wave technique and seal demon king piccolo away the first time.
I feel like you dont remember the OG dragonball and not Z... where krillin isnt exactly a main character until Roshi's training starts. Yamcha, Goku and Bulma were the og crew.
I love how Gohan (who was roshi’s student) is old like in the anime, but roshi is like 30

this movie came out when I was in highschool. I remember my friend being so pumped about this movie and I was like. " dude its going to be horrible. are you kidding me look at the poster." I couldn't convince him it was going to be terrible. he went to see it. I did not. he died alittle inside. I laughed at his expense
Funny story I was so hype for DBE and when i finally watched it, it made me physically ill because I'm a huge DBZ nerd and all the wrong things made my head explode LOL
Remember tho, if it wasn’t for this, DB wouldn’t have revived. DBE is what made Toriyama make Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F and therefore DBS, which I don’t agree with it being boring, especially with the ToP and the DBS Broly movie

I learned that these actors researched to be there characters cause they was a fan of the series but then when they learned everything and did all that work the entire script was changed on them so they did not have much time to change much nor train fully to be the new way
