@@adamhayden5152 because its not on normal cable anymore. CN isn't on regular cable anymore, you have to pay an extra fee in order to get the channel now.
I’ve been DVR-ing Metalocalypse re-runs that I’m assuming is to build hype for the movie (yes I have HBO Max and the DVDs otherwise, this is more just for stuff like the countdown vibe) but I’m only able to watch [adult swim] live on-air early in the morning on Wednesdays due to my early morning shift normally because its time slot is 3:30 AM.
@@boogityhoo Oh yeah even with my comment I’m using Hulu Live, my household uses mainly that and the channels that came with the Samsung Smart TV in addition to a billion streaming services. Although worth noting is that even Hulu Live and UA-cam TV are slightly cheaper than cable but still somewhat expensive, like $60 PER MONTH
honestly i like how [adult swim] just embraces its weirdness. it gives the brand an identity, and leads to stuff you wouldn't really find anywhere else
Adult Swim from 2001 to 2004 was must-watch Television. After that, it started to get old because you realized that the new shows just didn't really measure up to the originals. It was a nice change of pace from the Hanna Barbera, MGM, and 80s dominated CN of the 90s. That was probably Adult Swim's biggest appeal in the beginning.
Do you guys remember the early, literal adult swim ads, that would announce "all kids outta the pool!" and show old people swimming in an indoor lap pool?
@@pinkieglitterheart I'm confused by your typo. If you're asking if Nick had these commercials, no, they had the lamest nighttime programming (Nick at Nite.) I'm talking about the bumpers that would start with that catchy theme "dun DUN, duh dun DUN dun." Iconic opening notes
I don't know about super intelligent or high-brow, but Xavier Renegade Angel for sure deserves credit for being way better than it seems. Some of the jokes may miss you on first pass and there are top notch jokes that you have to be paying attention to catch, especially visual comedy, and I think a big part of the humour is that so much of the show is done in a way so that it's easy to mentally check out and miss the really funny stuff if you aren't paying attention. Also Joe Pera is pure gold, though it is a particularly dry style of gold that takes some amount of commitment to stick with the commitment to the bit to appreciate.
And honestly I don’t think it’s MEANT to be smart, like the joke is more that Xavier is a friggin idiot that doesn’t know what he’s talking about much like the Cybernetic Ghost from Aqua Teen
no one claims xavier is "deep and philosophical", it has roots in philosophy and its humor is very layered, but it's still a dumbass show that's funny cause it's dumb. his opinion on the show is completely misinformed by some fans that don't even exist.
@@Cabesandia Yeah I love how the fandom is the exact opposite of the Rick & Morty fandom where they’re like “yeah of course it’s stupid and pseudo-philosophical, that’s the point!” 😂
@@Cabesandia I think it's a case of he didn't get the show and thought it was dumb, then fans said to give it a chance or that it's actually good and there's more to it than it seems and he interpreted it that way, rather than dreaming up imaginary opinions of non-existent fans.
The Joe Pera slander is frustrating It’s genuinely one of the most wholesome, relaxing shows in all of TV history. Well worth the watch but you have to be in the mood. Also no mention of China, IL? One of the best AS shows.
@@kingchuckfinley you hit the nail right on the head, I’m 36 years old and I’m sitting here totally flabbergasted, on, how easily he shits and trashes everything that was before him, but thinks that Birdgirl is a actual good show, just a generational thing I guess. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
This guy has an impressive number of bad takes. I don't get it, what's the fucking point of selectively picking out shows from Adult Swim if they're not even all shows he's watched? It would make sense if this was "shows I watched on AS," but instead this is just "IDK I threw a dart at their lineup and here's my bad opinions of shit I didn't even watch, fuck you consume content thx."
I'm from a different generation, but I had a similar experience. In the 90s, we had a block of adult cartoons on MTV that we would stay up late to watch, & they too were weird. Aeon Flux, The Maxx, Liquid Television, Cartoon Sushi, Celebrity Death Match, Dr. Katz, & The Head. Sometimes they'd even play animated movies from the 70s & 80s, like Heavy Metal, Fire & Ice, Rock & Rule, Pink Floyd: The Wall, etc. 🔘 FUN FACTS: 🔘An animator from Liquid Television went on to create Courage the Cowardly Dog, & Robot Chicken is the spiritual successor to Celebrity Death Match. Home Movies was made by the guys who did Dr. Katz.
Liquid Television should have been released again by now, on DVD, but knowing how networks are these days, 90% of it will get banned from the collection because trivial feelings bullshit reasons.
Liquid Television was the adult swim of the 90s. Like a transition age between the era of cartoons being exclusively for kids and families and the TV animation renaissance of the 2000s
I remember when the block was first added to CN. "Alright, kids out of the pool. It's time for Adult Swim" Space Ghost Coast to Coast actually pre-dates Adult Swim, I remember staying up late watching it in the early 90s. Before Tom, Toonami was hosted by Space Ghost villain-turned-producer Moltar
Space ghost inspired adult swim. It started in 1994 and slowly gained a big cult audience. Let’s all bow in appreciation to the space ghost guys who made made all of our lives funnier by inspiring adult swim 🙏

Actually, ATHF was always meant to be about them dicking around and basically doing nothing. The show’s creators just used the detective angle as a trojan horse to get it green lit, because they didn’t think the network would want a show like that. That’s why they really only stick to the crime solving stuff for the first few episodes. Anyway, you should give SL2021 another shot. You’d probably appreciate it more now. I’m not that much older than you, and it was probably in my top three back then.
I was one of those kids who stumbled into Adult Swim when it first aired. I ran into Sealab 2021 one night, and it wasn't bad to me as a kid. I think I'd love it even more nowadays as you said as an adult. I'm a man in my early 30s.
@@theinudemon The block debuted on my 13th birthday: September 2nd, 2001, but I didn’t discover it until about a month later. My family was up late one night in a hotel room while traveling, and we stumbled upon “Mothermonsterman” on TV. My brother and I thought it was the funniest thing ever and would go on to quote half-remembered lines from the episode to each other constantly, but those fifteen minutes were enough to convince our parents to change the channel. XD When we got back from our trip, I managed to find and sneak a coax cable into my room (they didn’t want us to have cable) so that I could watch more. I was pretty good about unplugging it from the wall when I was done watching, but they still found out about it somehow. In retrospect, I probably should’ve unplugged both ends and hidden it, but I thought it blended in well enough with the cables leading to my game consoles that nobody would notice.
0/10, connerdawaffle never understand the deep and hidden lore behind 12 Oz. Mouse and bro never watch a entire episode of SuperJai, stated that “I watch a few scenes here and there for this video, and for more. I can tell there no real plot” without watching a full episode. JailBot and Golden Joe would disapprove this video>:[
Yeah a lot of L takes in this video. For me i am quite a bit older and remember the old people swimming in the pool intro every night. I think he just wasnt the target audience, and probably responded the way most normal people who werent fully in “adult swim” culture would respond.
10:27 actually fun fact, it's actually the opposite. the creators wanted to have the characters/show be about them doing whatever they wanted them to do but knew that would be very difficult to pitch so they made the "premise" them being detectives and then slowly moved to them doing whatever.
Yeah.. not a fan of this video honestly.. I’m tots cool with someone younger making a video about their experience with AS.. But there are some things they give as “fun facts” that are not at all true. I mean… hello… cartoon planet..
@nicole9volt He's probably to young to know about that. I do miss Cartoon Planet all the old Hanna Barbara cartoons that play there 24/7. Or his parents didn't pay the extra to add it to their cable bundle.
Adult Swim is like a rite of passage into adulthood while Cartoon Network is finally making shows for teens again and not just lil kids and some big kids.
Idk if anyone has already commented on it but the show at 54:48 is called Mission Hill. It's basically about a group of college students and funny situations that happen in their lives. It was another early era Adult Swim show.
The fact that Tom goes to the mayor makes you so upset is what makes it so funny to me. And they you don't see the comedy genius of venture brothers just shows you out.
Yeah AS wasn't meant for him at the time and from the sound of it, still isn't. He was definitely NOT in its demographic if he was watching it in 5th grade lol
@@tlozwarlock i remember when the new Johnny quest adventures was on USA Network when i was at the right age for it and then later, venture Bros came on at just the right time for Johnny quest to be dated but familiar. Also, mtv used to play speed racer if they had dead time late at night.
This dude just gave the same argument people give too Xavier Renegade Angel for Tim and Eric and not realize how tone deaf he stated it. Xavier should never get shut down just because it's philosophy humor
This video is overall weirdly full of bad takes that show absolutely no real research. Aside from the heavy opinion based content his other animation looks don't include nearly to the same extent but also gets the order of things very much wrong. He goes on about Tim and Erik Awesome Show Great Job being what started the surrealism of Adult Swim despite it being like 7-8 years before that era and also acting like it's universally beloved when it's more hit miss than most of the stuff he labeled as "unfunny trash" with no real substance beyond that.
Venture bros is the best and most quality Adult Swim series. The universe is so expansive and the character development. It really pays off from continued watch and references itself a lot it’s kind of like arrested development. You gotta watch it bro bc I can tell from your little blurb about it that you know absolutely nothing about it.
As a kid who is about to be an adult (2005) who also lives in the South, I loved squidbillies as much as I loved boondocks. I watched alot of Adult Swim and if anyone else remembers MAD it was Robot Chicken for Cartoon Network during the day. Wild Times that I'm thankful I got to experience.
Xavier alternates between deep and stupid, usually staying on the side of stupidity. It has loads of clever jokes though, its on the same level as Futurama when it comes to that.
I first watched adult swim when I was in early elementary school and was only allowed to watch one show from it, Futurama. Later down the line I got to watch more and more and then when I was high school I started watching Toonami when a friend showed me Attack on Titan and that led me down a fun rabbit hole. It lead me to discover more anime like FLCL, Assassination Classroom, Pop team epic, and Made in Abyss. Adult swim gave me a lot of shows to love and I can't wait to see what they'll have in the future.
The only adult show I was able to watch at the time was the Simpsons with my dad. I couldn't watch it alone, I had to have my dad with me (it was a rule). Tbh Simpsons is pretty tame compared to other adult shows.
Adult Swim had just always been such a great vehicle for new and edgy up and coming writers and animators. The cultural zeitgeist wouldn't be anything the same it is without all these shows and their various influences on future comedians, writers, animators, and artists. Tim and Eric's anti-humor comes to mind immediately. As well as giving several shows that had been previously canceled, a new life. Usually for the better. I know personally, my childhood wouldn't have been the same without Aqua Teen, Home Movies, Mission Hill, Boondocks, Tim and Eric, etc., as well as the more popular shows like KoTH and Futurama.
Yes there variety shows were dope like my favorites from 2001-2013 South Park Chappelle’s show Family guy The Boondocks Robot chicken American dad Aqua teen hunger force Futurama Squidbilles Wild n Out The Office Metaclalypse King of the hill The Venture Bros Moral Orel. Toonami Dragon Ball Z Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo One Piece Big o
Xavier Renegade Angel is one of my favorite Adult Swim shows, not because it's 2deep4u but it's just hilarious. I think Xavier is meant to be a satire of people who have obscure spiritual and philosophical beliefs but are actually just narcissistic blowhards, and the show is well written in that regard. Another show that wasn't mentioned that is my #1 favorite is Mike Tyson Mysteries. I like shows where the main characters are trying to help people but end up making everything worse.
its a great show, but its definitely not for everyone. still this dude was extremely dismissive of it and when he said "comedy can't be smart" (paraphrasing) i died a little inside... like comedy is one of the best outlets for social critique and wit and humor go hand in hand... no idea what the videos creator was thinking with that
I went on a family vacation to Marquette when I was younger and Joe Pera had this amazing way of fully encapsulating the feel of what it’s like to be there. It’s really hard to explain but somehow the show always brings me back to that time of childhood wonderment.
Sleeper hit. I don't know if I'd suggest the Grocery Store episode to anybody watching the show for the first time, though. I'd probably go with Church Announcements to get somebody into the show.
39:39 inuyasha technically was part of adult swim so was trigun, cowboy bebop, trigun, wolfs reign, samurai champloo, full metal alchemist etc. they aired there on weekdays and new episodes dropped on Saturday after toonami.
Sealab 2021 & Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law were my top favorites. Had a big soft spot for Squidbillies too.... It was like an animated mashup of Married With Children, The Addams Family, & 90s MTV. Superjail, Moral Orel, Oblongs, Mighty Boosh... I can't believe how long ago it all was. The old Hanna Barbera characters shouldn't be too alien to older millennials. Cartoon Network used to reair the old shows on Boomerang.
Lets be honest, being young and trying to force ourselves to like some of these shows was a common experience lol. Home Movies was definitely a show that garnered more appreciation from us when we grew older. Moral Orel too.
Yeah, you definitely missed a LOT, so much that this video feels like a first impression of sorts🙂 There’s also a LOT more to 12 oz. Mouse than you realize, especially since you haven’t really seen a LOT from the two seasons🙂
@@angrybellsprout yeah that’s what I’m getting from all of this. He shit on a lot of the shows I loved, and I realized he was around 10 when they were on tv. Also, no MDE? Like, I kind of get it, but you don’t have to endorse the ghost of Kiev.
"Venture Bros went up to 2019?!" it was basically cancelled after like every season and it would take months or years to get a new season the fans really wanted every time
Fun fact, did you know aqua teen is actually spinoff to space ghost Coast to Coast the creators of Aquitaine had an idea for a space ghost episode where space ghost needed to pay a bill off to a restaurant, so what they did was they sent the mascot of the restaurant invited to talk show being master, shaking meet Walden fry lock but the original concept of the episode was originally scrap. Then they made the show and then they did make the bachelor meal episode, but it was way after aqua teen, blew up.
OOOO Finally Superjail Coverage. Superjail is such an obscure show that its hard to find alot of media talk on it, and once you take your time to watch it, its really good. The show having no overarching plot really gives time to let the characters be expanded upon, even the side characters that we don't see much like Ash or The Mistress. It really is that Psychedelic trippy show but it uses it to advantage by making everything weird and wacky but not enough to make you lose your mind while watching. And for it being ADD friendly, it 100% is. I have ADD and it have been the first show i can genuinely sit down and watch in full length without getting distracted or feeling like im missing something because of the lack of content. It is my favorite show i have ever seen and im so disappointed it got canceled, but i hope one day we may see a Reboot that holds its same wacky wild style and its goody charm with the characters
hell yeah!!!! I really loved Superjail! when i was.. like 16? and although i havent watched it in Ages i can say for sure it was a good show! or... well... definitely a SHOW, anyway ^^;; it isnt "good" in the sense that it has a plot, but its good because its not trying to! it's its own thing and i love it for that ^^ and also, i love superjail! for its humor, but ESPECIALLY animation. i can TOTALLY attest to the ADD thing because i too have add and i couldnt look away from the show! for the humor, my favorite joke (or, the one that sticks out to me most) is the A.S.C.R.A.C joke. i didnt even get it until my sister paused and i saw the whiteboard that had A.S.C.R.A.C written on it. but yeah i could talk about SJ! forEVER because i never see anyone do, but i dont know what else to say! go watch sj if you havent you're missing out
I liked Home Movies, to a degree. The reason Adult Swim got this is they needed to build a lineup & this was something they got after UPN only aired 5 episodes & the shows they created were based of Hannah Barbarea properties & parodies
Really L take on Xavier Regenade. It's got some of the funniest word play and dialog I've seen for a show. Just because you don't find it humorous, doesn't mean everyone else is pretending to like it because it's "deep" It's a genuinely good show.
Exactly, this guy obviously can't grasp camp humor to appreciate some of the more obscure and low budget stuff. Funny he enjoyed 12 Oz. Mouse but couldn't enjoy other stuff.
@@kingchuckfinleythe way bro talks about smoke makes me think he hasn’t even smelt a big before 😂 don’t know what he takin about w the shows or the substances 😂
he says "unless you grew up in the '60s, you won't know who Space Ghost was" a lot of these Hanna Barbera shows were on in the '80s. I watched space ghost, Herculoids, birdman, blue falcon in the '80s. I also watched Snorks, Jabberjaw, Shirt tales, Grape Ape, Josie and the pussycats , i didn't like that last one, just watched it because it was on tv at the time, but my bro loved that show, would wake me up at 6 a.m. when it came on so we could watch it together before school. . .
The fact you said Brock Samsung was the main character of ventures bros and said you were into comedy and not action shows tells me it went right over your head. Venture bros main character isn’t Brock he’s the body guard and the show is historical and is very Rick morty before Rick and morty ever came out you should give it another go it is truly hilarious and loves continuity and serializtion of it’s episodes it has a real plot
Yeah 😂 he completely fumbled when it comes to venture bros, thinking Brock is the main character and not knowing it's a comedy , is really disheartening.
I remember watching a video animation on UA-cam and thinking "this looks like something adultswim would make" not only that, but it was a bit eery as well, it's called 'haha you clowns' and it is aired on adultswim
Adult Swim and Family Guy reruns as a 90's and 00's kid was such an zany experience lol. It was mostly more weirder then trying to watch Daria, Beavis and Butthead, KOTH or Family Guy back before Adult Swim existed.
The Drinky Crow show was based on an obscure comic called Maakies that got popular on the net for a year or two. Seems like it would have been a better property for Telltales Games to use than draw out short strips in an animated series. It was Obscurus Lupa & Phelous that did the review of THE ROOM. The Oblongs felt like a spoof of the Addams Family, the Munsters, & Archie Comics' Carney's.
Adult Swim holds a special place in my heart for giving us Superjail! but I also hold a special hatred for them for taking it away from us 😭 Also, for the record, there is a plot to Superjail! and though it's a loose one, the more important aspect of the show is the way it portrays difficult subjects like alcoholism, gambling, drug addiction, grief and loss (to name a few) in the way that a kid's show does for children. Superjail! is so, so well thought out, it does such a masterful job of portraying itself as mindless chaos but having far deeper meanings with every episode. Truly a masterpiece of a show.
I can’t believe you threw shade on Xavier Renegade Angel. I think that show is hilarious. It does get uncomfortable at certain points, but it kind of adds to the experience. You don’t have to be stoned out of your mind to enjoy it
Adult Swim was such a huge part of my life it is awesome to see how others felt about many of the weird shows that aired. Cool video! I even learned a few things.
10:25 he said the thing! I found Adult Swim in the Space Ghost/ Cowboy Bebop era. Adult Swim, like Toonami, really was an early influence on Lofi and the After Hours aesthetic. It pushed the envelope for the time, and was creative. This was before Samurai Champloo. The classic bumps with break beat, drum n bass, and jazz hop. Minimalist program cards. Good memories, really set the standard.
God I loved and still do love Home Movies! My sophomore year of high school in 2002 me and my acting group for drama class basically did monologues and scenes from the show damn near the whole year till our teacher was like enough of this shit.. so the rest of the year we used ATHF. Being 15,16 at the beginning on Adult Swim was literally the perfect time! This video is amazing! I just stumbled on your channel and hit the subscribe button so damn fast! YOU HAVE TO WATCH LUCY!!! Seriously!!! And FRISKY DINGO IS ALSO A MUCH WATCH
Fun fact: When Adult swim first aired they only ran on Thursday and Sunday nights. That was it. I remember it being advertise late at night leading up to it. One night I was watching old cartoons that are\were on boomerang, the next Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Toonami was it's own block in the 90s airing anime. Adult Swim was airing Inuyasha, Cowbo Bebop, Wolfs Rain, FLCL and a few others like right around when adult swim started fr. Then Toonami got brought back on Adult Swim.
Frisky Dingo was hilariously priceless. Think of Archer only in a parallel dimension and he has an alien super villain arch enemy who’s actually his best friend and the MC, they just keep fighting because….fuck it.
Honestly Smiling Friends is just a breath of fresh air in adult animation. Like how a lot of ppl are talking about Smiling Friends, the show could've gone the pessimistic and depressing route like some other shows and end with messages that the world sucks or life is meaningless (*cough* later seasons of Rick and Morty *cough*). Despite the crudeness and abrasiveness of Smiling Friends, in the end of each episode Pim and Charlie managed to make people smile, even if it took... unconventional ways of acieving that lol. The coworkers don't hate each other's guts and the boss actually likes making ppl smile instead of being the "profit over everything" kinda boss. Idk it was just something ppl needed because the beginning of the 2020's was already shitty and depressing on its own. I was a little oversaturated with media and stories reminding me that.

its still weird, but they definitely toned down a lot of stuff on the network, every once in a while on a good night youll hit gold with the perfect bumpers, perfect shows, and all that weirdness.
nothing beats the memories of falling asleep watching cartoon network and waking up in the middle of the night to robot chicken, squidbillies or dragon ball. also the times when I used to sneak out into the living room at 5 AM while my mom was asleep and watch the boondocks and ATHF on demand. I miss the golden age of adult swim
One of my favorite things about adult swim was the extremely bizarre bumps (commercial ads) that had really cool experimental music. I’ve found so many underground artists through those bumps
I don't think 12 oz Mouse is that obscure. It's just infamous for its artstyle. (The plot is really great though.) Also, I didn't know Brendon had a cameo in Clarence. You really do learn something new everyday.
Hell, THE MELVINS made a cameo appearance in Uncle Grandpa and the original voice actors from Scooby Doo Ghoul School reprised their roles for a Halloween episode of OK-KO. Once ppl get out of that "classic cartoons are good! modern shows suck!" bandwagon and step out of your comfort zone you may find a show or episode you may be surprised that you like. I really love Smiling Friends and Jellystone even though Jellystone is more CN. CH Greenblatt did the same thing Harvey Birdman did, highlighted all the lesser beloved Hanna Barbera characters and revitalized them for the newer generation. There were even some great references to space ghost, sealab, and harvey birdman. I love watching all the youtube videos finding every Hanna Barbera character shown in Jellystone and my god there's a lot!
Frisky Dingo was the definite predecessor to Archer. Definitely high on my favorites, has that Megabyte like Reboot villain trying to put up with disappointment as he tries to Dr. Evil bury a hole into the Earth. The whole radioactive ants bit was great too, then there was the whole union of space marine lookin dudes pining hard for flex hours at their job. There's so much characters in it getting built into the show.
I encountered Adult Swim the first time through a commercial during Toonami: The Midnight Run-Special Edition on the start of midnight of September 1, 2001(Pacific to Central was August 31, 2001). While I was getting back from a high school football game during my Sophmore Year at the age of 15, I just wanted to catch a few Daft Punk(from Interstella 5555) and Gorillaz music videos. Then came a commercial for AS, and when it was shown, I had to check it out for myself the next day. September 2, 2001 came, and its timeslot originally was 10pm-2am on Sundays and Thursdays. But when I caught Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Brak, Space Ghost, Sealab, and Cowboy Bebop, my mind was blown to how they were able to get away with less youth-friendly programming. 2002 would later have it air Saturdays for anime and Sundays for comedy. 2003 it would air everyday except for Fridays due to Cartoon Cartoon Fridays(which I was still surprised they had a band called Morningwood during a primetime kids block at the time). Then it just played everyday from hereon, yet randomly changed the start of the block from 10pm-6am to 8pm or 9pm-6am. April Fools Day 2012 had a Toonami revival which played every show it use to air during its run on the afterschool slots and Saturday Night primetime blocks, and all of which were episodes they last left off from before switching the shows around. And a bonus being they finally showed the newest episode/season of Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-ohki(now in digital animation). After that happened, fan outcry on social media demanded it come back, and did. Even at one April Fools Day in 2018 where AS/Toonami aired all its anime in Jap dub/English sub. Same for finally airing a formerly banned episode of Outlaw Star that year in February. AS had its own original shows, some taken from FOX(with the acception of American Dad defecting to TBS for new episodes and reran on AS), showing 80s/90s sitcoms and/or Saturday Morning shows(Saved by the bell and Peewee's Playhouse), a show from the BBC(which later spawned a meme about one of the characters who loved drinking Bailey's), anime, old shows that gained a cult following(Symbionic Titan & Samurai Jack), and other shows that were great(Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell, Joe Pera, YOLO, Primal, & Smiling Friends). And for 21 years, still at it. Probably the only block thats kept on and still going.
Toonami and midnight run was my life!! A person on here by the channel name rinse repeat actually has a midnight run block up and I have been falling asleep to it for months now and it’s the best nostalgic hug you could ever ask for
I remember the first time i stumbled across Adult Swim was when i was eight and me and my parents were on vacation. I was watching cartoon network before i went to sleep, and then it turned to 9:00 pm. the [adult swim] logo came on the screen, and my dad immediately came in the room and told me to go to sleep. I wasn't actually asleep yet, so i was peeking through my eyes while my dad was watching King of the Hill. However it did not take long for me to close my eyes and go to sleep.
The Shivering Truth is a show i've really enjoyed lately, absolutely crazy but genius at the same time! really missed these types of crazy claymation shows some of my favourite as a kid was like GOGS and Plasmo so seeing The Shivering Truth was just refreshing and instantly got me hooked right away
The Shivering Truth is one of the greatest shows of all time. Not because it’s just weird, but it’s weird with purpose and actually had things to say. Same with XRA.
Tuca and Bertie briefly is a show of two thirty year old bird girls with their own personalities: It's basically Spongebob or Rocko's Modern Life for adults. Right now the show is on hiatus: First of all, there was that big thing that removed a lot of AS shows and second of all, Tiffany Haddish... stepped over the line so they need new Tuca if they ever find new network to continue
just some thoughts: squidbillies, superjail, robot chicken, and metalocalypse used to scare the shit out of me as a kid but i appreciate their charm now. just something about their animation creeped me out, especially squidbillies 😭 I remember when toonami would come on and there was this anime called shin-Chan and while it seemed cute at first glance, the dialogue and characters were super bizarre and it was definitely not for children but i loved it 🤩 i also remember watching the boondocks cuz i thought it was legit anime and whenever they would say the n-word i would be so shocked cuz i never knew “anime” could say that word 😂 also I would highly recommend you look up the Japanese dub of the boondocks, it’s…something 😭 Another show I loved was home movies, just something about that show gives me extreme nostalgia and it would always calm me for some reason, i think maybe the soft animation and voices made my adhd self calm down ATHF, family guy, the eric andre show were some of my favorite shows to watch in general on adult swim and my current favorite one has to be smiling friends, just something about that show is so charming ☺️ Also can’t believe you didn’t mention loiter squad! Another adult swim classic that was similar to tim and Eric with the fact that they would do different skits and one of the main people on that show was Tyler, the creator Overall, adult swim had some great shows and I always get nostalgia from seeing a show I used to watch as a kid, especially since I was a night owl and would always stay up late, adult swim definitely has a place in my heart ❤
Home Movies is one of my favorite shows if not my favorite. That show is just so relatable as a creator, and well I don't usually say I can relate to shows but I just feel like a lot of the characters feel like people I know. Like similar to Brendon I was on the same level as some of the adult peers I know.
the joke about Xaiver is that its a fake deep, its so stupid that its deep but it goes right back to being stupid, you can get a quote like "Who am I am I real, is my god real, Am i nothing?" and then four seconds later say something like "I love all my babies and did not loose them, its called being a good parent. You should try it sometime"
Dude you’re take on Xavier renegade angel just shows it completely flew over your head. It’s one of the funniest shows here with the most creative wordplay I’ve ever seen. No actual fans say it’s philosophical and deep that’s literally the exact person it’s making fun of, the core of the show is literally satirizing pseudo-philosophical fake spiritual people who get off on helping people but really don’t effect their cause in any meaningful way and often make it worse. If you actually pay attention to what’s going on in the show you’ll realize how funny it is, almost every line that’s uttered is a joke and they build upon themselves creating layers. It’s one of the most masterfully written shows I’ve ever watched in my life and if your someone reading this please don’t let his review persuade you away from watching it.
Does anybody remember Delocated? That mockumentary-type show with the dude in the ski mask? It was the most bizarre thing as a kid, and I hated it, lol.
Aqua teen was originally written to be a "detective bad guy of the week" style show. They started to distance the show from that in ep4 and by ep6 had ditched it all together. The creators did this because that style of show has been done to death and because there is only so many times you can recreate the same plot with mad libbed scenarios before the show would end up just "something to have on so the room isn't quite" The detective template is extremely restrictive, but relying on the characters and their interaction you can do what ever the hell you want, it doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense because it doesn't need to. ANYTHING could happen, and it often did.
OH MY GOD. Connor idk if you’re going to see this, but i grew up with your old videos and they’re the reason I’m such a video game fan. Thank you for making my childhood :)
There are a couple of events from Adult Swim that I remember fondly. The first was when they were really hyping up the premier of Squidbillies. There was so much hype for it, and they gave the date and time over and over. My friends and I were very excited. And then...they instead aired the pilot of Perfect Hair Forever, with no context or explanation whatsoever for what it was or why it was being shown. Much later than that, the short that first really introduced the Infomercials show to the general public, Too Many Cooks. A classic.
As somebody who didn’t grow up with Adult Swim or Cartoon Network, going on All 4 and watching these shows like Samurai Jack, King Of The Hill and Robot Chicken has been really entertaining. Great video, keep them going!
Watching Adult Swim on your Sony Trinitron CRT TV during the early to mid 2000s past your bedtime was the authentic Adult Swim experience. These were the days I truly felt free from responsibility. Television will never be the same again
I had to turn the volume down and turn on the closed captioning lol and if i thought my parents were up i’d face away from the tv and pretend i was asleep 😂
@@Chicken_Wing91 I can relate. In fact, I went a step further, and would smack a black duct tape over the Adult Swim logo on the bottom right. My 8 year old brain thought this was a genius idea.
I love this video. I'm an old millennial, so I was in college back then. I loved the animes the most. I remember when Adult Swim would show the black screen with messages from fans complaining about all the animes that came on after the other adult cartoons. I think that's why animes moved to only the weekends and the other shows looped over after all shows for the night ended. I was up all hours back then so I remember when the new block of shows ended for the night and started back over until it was actually "cartoon network" time. I am shocked squid billies lasted that long. I could have sworn that there were only a few seasons. Occasionally, I still watch cartoons out of nostalgia.

Fun fact: the boondocks was originally a comic strip that you could find in most sunday comic sections of newspapers
And the theme song was awesome.
Even funnier fact: a compilation of all the comic strips is available to purchase!

And honestly I don’t think it’s MEANT to be smart, like the joke is more that Xavier is a friggin idiot that doesn’t know what he’s talking about much like the Cybernetic Ghost from Aqua Teen
you should check out wonder showzen if you liked xavier renegade angel its by the same studio pffr and used to air on mtv

Katz.
Aww Yeah! Liquid Television! That shit was Lit!!!

I also watched Snorks, Jabberjaw, Shirt tales, Grape Ape, Josie and the pussycats , i didn't like that last one, just watched it because it was on tv at the time, but my bro loved that show, would wake me up at 6 a.m. when it came on so we could watch it together before school. . .
Probably said somewhere by someone, but I was surprised it wasn't mentioned that Brendon Small was a creator of Metalocalypse as well as Home Movies.
That gif when you looked at those twitter replies was from a show called Mission Hill, a short-lived cartoon that definitely is worth a watch.
Yeah 😂 he completely fumbled when it comes to venture bros, thinking Brock is the main character and not knowing it's a comedy , is really disheartening.
the first season of superjail is amazing ❤ so much detail in the animation
I remember watching a video animation on UA-cam and thinking "this looks like something adultswim would make" not only that, but it was a bit eery as well, it's called 'haha you clowns' and it is aired on adultswim
Adult Swim and Family Guy reruns as a 90's and 00's kid was such an zany experience lol. It was mostly more weirder then trying to watch Daria, Beavis and Butthead, KOTH or Family Guy back before Adult Swim existed.
2005 Adult Swim introduced me to Fooly Cooly and I'll always love it for giving me that mental illness
Adult Swim holds a special place in my heart for giving us Superjail! but I also hold a special hatred for them for taking it away from us 😭
Also, for the record, there is a plot to Superjail! and though it's a loose one, the more important aspect of the show is the way it portrays difficult subjects like alcoholism, gambling, drug addiction, grief and loss (to name a few) in the way that a kid's show does for children. Superjail! is so, so well thought out, it does such a masterful job of portraying itself as mindless chaos but having far deeper meanings with every episode. Truly a masterpiece of a show.
the "Goodnight"! always made me feel good
I can’t believe you threw shade on Xavier Renegade Angel. I think that show is hilarious. It does get uncomfortable at certain points, but it kind of adds to the experience. You don’t have to be stoned out of your mind to enjoy it
yeah that show is exceptionally good, I give big props to that one
The animation style is shite though
@@carlycarmine3858 it’s not a looker that’s for sure
@@sanictookabum7863 certainly not, and I never watched it because of the crappy CG

12 oz mouse is the best show to watch while tripping balls. but if your sober it's absolute trash.
The chinchilla from 12 oz mouse has the EXACT same sound that rabbits make in donts starve i swear
Joe Perra talks with you is actually a pretty good show. You should give it a chance.
Probably one of the best shows adult swim ever had the honor of airing
Agreed
seriosuly it is really good
So sad it got cancelled
Dudes opinion lost all value when he didn't give Joe Pera a chance.
Weirdly I actually loved Tom goes to the mayor growing up….and to this day I find something very calm about, which my anxiety digs.
And FRISKY DINGO IS ALSO A MUCH WATCH
xavier renegade angel done dirty af, but that just means it did its job of tricking you into thinking it's saying something
Fun fact: When Adult swim first aired they only ran on Thursday and Sunday nights. That was it. I remember it being advertise late at night leading up to it. One night I was watching old cartoons that are\were on boomerang, the next Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
I remember Sunday were shows like ATHF and etc. but Thursday they showed only Anime
Toonami was it's own block in the 90s airing anime. Adult Swim was airing Inuyasha, Cowbo Bebop, Wolfs Rain, FLCL and a few others like right around when adult swim started fr. Then Toonami got brought back on Adult Swim.
Guy wasn't alive for sailor moon toonami.
Most of us weren't,or we were simply too young to really rebel and watch adult swim against our parent's wishes
Complaining about stereotypes and then saying Boondocks is better than that. Top tier my dude
When I was about 8 or 10 I snuck to watch adult swim to watch Inuyasha, and that was my first anime ever. Thats how my love for anime grew
Frisky Dingo was hilarious! Predecessor to Archer. Highly recommend if you've never watched, quick watch only 2 seasons
Agreed…I was put off by it at first but fkd around and watched an entire episode and couldn’t stop until I got to the conclusion 😂😂
I like how Connor had to be extremely careful as to not reference Sam Hyde.
The candy nun lord himself?
You mean dagoth urs avatar
Yoooo glad I’m not the only one who realized this guy is afraid of the ghost of Kiev.
Adult Swim is amazing dude, so glad its still going strong
WAS weird? It still is 😂

its still weird, but they definitely toned down a lot of stuff on the network, every once in a while on a good night youll hit gold with the perfect bumpers, perfect shows, and all that weirdness.
Great work in this! Learned a lot. Also, you mentioning your dad watching cartoons with you was heartwarming. Good stuff!
Most of this stuff was made for his dad or people a little younger than that.
nothing beats the memories of falling asleep watching cartoon network and waking up in the middle of the night to robot chicken, squidbillies or dragon ball. also the times when I used to sneak out into the living room at 5 AM while my mom was asleep and watch the boondocks and ATHF on demand. I miss the golden age of adult swim
One of my favorite things about adult swim was the extremely bizarre bumps (commercial ads) that had really cool experimental music. I’ve found so many underground artists through those bumps
Perfect Hair Forever was such a funny show despite having a short run. When it aired my friends and I quoted it so many times.
I don't think 12 oz Mouse is that obscure. It's just infamous for its artstyle. (The plot is really great though.)
Also, I didn't know Brendon had a cameo in Clarence.
@@giselletorres4156 Just seeing this now. Thank you!!!
I remember downloading all the episodes on Kazaa. I LOVED that show, time to go back and rewatch, been too long.
And the second season finds ways to keep the whole plot connecting.
A person on here by the channel name rinse repeat actually has a midnight run block up and I have been falling asleep to it for months now and it’s the best nostalgic hug you could ever ask for
12 oz mouse is litterally just early 2000s new grounds the show.
That one was cool
don't disrespect 12 oz mouse like that bruh
Fr it pretty good
Frisky Dingo is the spiritual predecessor to Archer. Worth a watch.
Yep .
Damn he really forgot Ballzmasterz99 and Black dinamite
2 underrated gems
Tuca and Bertie briefly is a show of two thirty year old bird girls with their own personalities: It's basically Spongebob or Rocko's Modern Life for adults. Right now the show is on hiatus: First of all, there was that big thing that removed a lot of AS shows and second of all, Tiffany Haddish... stepped over the line so they need new Tuca if they ever find new network to continue
just some thoughts:
squidbillies, superjail, robot chicken, and metalocalypse used to scare the shit out of me as a kid but i appreciate their charm now. just something about their animation creeped me out, especially squidbillies 😭
I remember when toonami would come on and there was this anime called shin-Chan and while it seemed cute at first glance, the dialogue and characters were super bizarre and it was definitely not for children but i loved it 🤩 i also remember watching the boondocks cuz i thought it was legit anime and whenever they would say the n-word i would be so shocked cuz i never knew “anime” could say that word 😂 also I would highly recommend you look up the Japanese dub of the boondocks, it’s…something 😭
Another show I loved was home movies, just something about that show gives me extreme nostalgia and it would always calm me for some reason, i think maybe the soft animation and voices made my adhd self calm down
ATHF, family guy, the eric andre show were some of my favorite shows to watch in general on adult swim and my current favorite one has to be smiling friends, just something about that show is so charming ☺️
Also can’t believe you didn’t mention loiter squad! Another adult swim classic that was similar to tim and Eric with the fact that they would do different skits and one of the main people on that show was Tyler, the creator
Overall, adult swim had some great shows and I always get nostalgia from seeing a show I used to watch as a kid, especially since I was a night owl and would always stay up late, adult swim definitely has a place in my heart ❤
Metalocalypse used to scare me to lol
I'm shocked metalpocoylpse had
A movie.
It was so awesome though especially being a kid it felt like you were being bad and doing something you weren’t supposed to do lol
@@Chicken_Wing91 yeah, for me I just did the same with movies like Pulp Fiction, just watching movies from the DVD rack when my parents were out 😂
