Without doing any research I bought a 2012 F150 XLT 4 Door, 4 wheel drive. Immediately i noticed it was leaking antifreeze. I didn’t freak- it was a fairly simple ‘o’ ring replacement. Soon after, it began a string of minor issues- one right after another. I’m not a mechanic, never liked busting my knuckles and sliding under a vehicle, however, when the check engine light came on, I stepped my game up, and with a little goggle/UA-cam/ Ford Forum, I took matters into my own hands. Removing, cleaning, reinstalling the MAF sensor -which corrected the issue- was all I needed to realize I could skip the expensive shop fees. Since then I’ve replaced the serpentine belt, water pump and thermostat, rear door lock motor-I’ve replaced the plugs and tested the coil packs, and I change my own oil. She currently has 156K miles and runs like a champ with 33inch full mud tires, 3/2 leveling kit, and a Flowmaster44 exhaust with the restrictor box removed. She’s my daily, and my baby. Idk how a truck could get any more comfortable than this one, and I expect her to be around for a long time more. I don’t make her tow anything, and I’d never purposely put her in the trenches- but I know she would and could. Currently mid way on an exterior light build- and searching for an affordable fender flare option. The 2012 gets a lot of bad reviews and the issues are true- but if you’re a car guy, or are willing to learn, there’s no way you won’t love driving it.
11th gen is my literal dream truck. I love how they look more than any other generation ever. Well except the 2019 F150, 13th gen? But I won't be able to afford one of those for 15 or 20 years
I'm with you completely. My company was selling our old trucks I got my 08 fx4 with 120k miles for $2700. I'm the second person to drive it looks like new, but I love the frontend on the 2019 and want a 5.0
I'm looking at 11th gen myself, and I can agree, they just look good. A newer angular look, yet they still look like a pick up truck (newer trucks just have too much going on). Plus, they are cheaper than 12th gen, so it's a win win. I'm just browsing UA-cam to make sure they don't have any major problems.
Riley Denning some do! I recommend getting one with a 4.6L instead of the 5.4, with a edge tuner and a few other mods I think mine will out do my old 5.4 work truck and I know I can get 300k plus miles out if it.
Yea boii. Same the coyote 5.0 is the way. No timing chain stretching or waste gates getting stuck or carbon buildup on your intake valves you get with EcoBoost.
Picked up a 2010 5.4L crew cab FX4 Plus, with luxury package. Premium stereo, leather interior, heated seats, tow assist camera, XMradio, elocker, leveled, super nice truck for $10k Had a 125k on it. Has a little rust, but motor super quiet. My buddy was moving out the country and i needed a new ride, so i payed him what he owned on it.
I own a 2002 f150xlt used with 285,000 miles with the 4.6 engine. Had it two yrs now and love it. It was a fleet city truck then a pest control company truck before I bought it. Had it checked out by local repair shop and got good reviews from them. Had all the fluids changed and a valve cover fixed and that's it. So far it all works and I just drive back and fourth from work, 24 miles a day.
@@eltonyancey6426it will last forever as long as you keep up the maintenance. Back in those days the 150 was still trying to be a reliable work truck instead of a luxury vehicle. Not to mention parts are readily available and cheap.
I have a 2013 eco boost platinum and I love it Because the 12 gen feels like the last real trucks ford made without lacking all of the modern technology. The 13 gen is more focused towards being a family vehicle and geared toward comfort.
@@Juliuscaesar69th Early this year I had the oil pump, timing chain, and cam phasers changed. Afterward it ran like new--great acceleration and quieter than before. But then a few months later it started to shake a bit. Turns out I need to put in a heavier oil. So far that works well. Luckily the transmission hasn't given me any problems, but I am starting to notice some lag when I shift into reverse. I've maintained my truck well, and it has served me well. But I am not going to put anymore money into it. I hope to get a new truck soon.
I've got a 2013 F-150 XL 4x2 with the 3.7L v6. 150,000 miles and still drives like a dream. 2-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated v6 is just about the most reliable combo you can ask for in a half-ton pickup. Less moving parts = less that can go wrong. Fleets seem to have loved these trucks, I see them all the time. Cheap, fuel-efficient, durable, and reliable. Everything a work truck should be. :)
@@sackk94 I traded it in several years ago for an '18 Nissan Titan single cab long box. I still see it driving around town though, so I doubt it's giving it's new owner many issues.
Yeah, I’m a dummie. I think I just remember people making a big stink about it because it was a SOHC rather than the DOHC motors they were pushing in everything else.
Just traded in my 11th gen, 2005 supercrew with 4.6. Was a good truck served me well as daily driver end did a lot of work with it as well. Just bought a 12th gen, 2014 supercrew 5.0, looking forward to having it for years to come, has many more comfort features than my last one.
I owned a 2006 Lariat 4x4 supercab with the 5.4 3v. Loved that truck, but frame rot ate it. It was a very good truck to me, always ran well, but it did have some issues. The front coil springs are prone to breakage, the steering sector shaft u joints corrode, lower front fenders and rear wheel arches rust, and the box frame simply disintegrated from rust. I found a 2011 XLT 4x4 supercrew 5.0 Coyote with 64000 miles, so I snapped that up before someone else did. It also had the coil spring issue, both sides broken, but strut replacement is pretty straightforward. I gave this truck a better lookover for rust issues, and besides the cabcorner issues the supercrew cabs all have, it was in beautiful shape. The 5.0 is better on fuel, the 6 speed trans shifts well, and tows well too. The technology upfits that Ford made in these trucks from 2006 to 2011 is surprising. Oh, the parking brake systems on 11th and 12th gen trucks are pretty much identically flawed, the actuators rust solid, and don't work once that happens. Disassembly and repair fixes it, but it's quite inconvenient.
I got 300K miles on my '06 XLT V6 before it was totaled out in an accident...absolutely great truck. I replaced it with a '16 Platinum 3.5 Eco boost. The '16 Platinum is just AWESOME. No doubt, Its a Ford F-150 underneath, the Eco boost turbo is very responsive and powerful and the truck rides and handles incredibly well. I was hesitant to get a truck loaded like this (more stuff to fail and not work) but everything works fine. I'm very happy with the quality and performance of the truck. Reward yourself, go with the 13th Gen.
Have an 08 4.6 v8 with 263k miles ! Runs and drives very nice ! Everything works just like the day it rolled off the assembly line ,, best truck iv had hands down ! And iv had my fair share of , dodge, gmc, chevy ,
Ford falling short of a Chevy interior?? Hahaha look at a limited interior and options and look at a 2020 Denali and tell me which is better. Newer gen chevy is junk and over priced
I own a 2017 Ford f150 super crew cab with a 5.0 V8 engine and 6 speed o/d automatic tranny . I frankly preferred my older 2012 F150 body style because of its ruggedness of its body panels, but hands down I get a slightly better gas mileage and the cabin seems to be quieter in my 2017 F150. I think both generations have their pros and cons of ownership .
2012 STX 5.0L. 190k miles on it and don't have any squeaks or rattles. Preventive maintenance is key for longevity. I also do my own service on the truck so I can see things that may need to be replaced soon as I'm working on something else.
I'm real glad you posted screenshots of the prices I see a 2014 f150 4wd XLT for $24,000 with 116,000mi & a 2017 4wd XLT for $32,000 with 98,000 mi. Being that this video was made 2 years ago it's crazy to see how inflation and covid increased prices so much
Just recently bought a 2009 f150 2wd single cab long bed with the 4.6 V8. Probably the most reliable truck you can buy! Just crossed over 116,000 miles so she is just breaking in.
I'm on my second 11th gen. My first went to action at 232k it was 5.4 regular services had to have timing set and phasers done at 20k. My current truck has 142k on it with a 4.6 a bit less power with none of the 5.4 issues, headers/exhaust cold air and edge programmer woke it up. I love it
2009 f150 fx4 5.4 going strong with 265k. Everything works as it should except for the rust its been a reliable truck. Hoping to get a 2nd gen raptor soon.
I own since new a 2002 F150 XLT Super Cab 5.4 Triton 2 valve 4x4 with 4 speed auto 141,000 miles with 3.55 tow package and happy that I get 14 mpg. Paid $28,500 new Do I want to spend $45,000 to $60,000 on any new truck? Answer is no
I love window shopping new trucks, but every time I get close to considering an upgrade, I realize they’re not worth the added cost over my current truck.
In 2008 when gas was close to $4 a gallon, I bought a 2009 Mazda 3 as a daily driver and since then I put 210,000 miles on the Mazda Recently I switched roles and turned the F 150 into a daily driver BTW I don't care what anybody says The Ford Mazda alliance was was the greatest while it lasted
I have a 2004 Ford, F150 Lariat. 4x4, 199,000 MILES. It has been great. It looks great. Most people say they can't believe it's a 2004 it looks so good. Rides great! No way I'm paying $50K plus.
Love my F150 s !! I’ve had several! Currently drive 2005 4.6 V-8 and I run the hell out of it!! Being an Excavating contractor they get put through hell and I don’t buy new ones anymore for that reason! I’ve had great luck with them!!🇺🇸🇺🇸
The 4.6 is Fords best engine i think. I love it in my Crown Vic, i been looking for a crew cab 4wd with the 4.6 I like to think the 5.4 is as good but...i doubt it..
Yeah, I think the were a little early for the luxury truck game, but with how popular the new navigators are, it wouldn’t surprise me to see it come around again. Then again, maybe for thinks their platinum series is good enough.
I bought a 2004 XLT Cewcab 5.4 V-8 Triton 4X4 with 147K now at 171K last April for $4000. Yes, it had some issues when I bought it. Needs OD fixed, alignment, even bank plugs & coli packs. I put about $1000 into it and it's now worth about $7000. Love this truck and how high I sit up now. Rides pretty smooth for an old truck a few rattles and clanks but no big deal. Lots of features and very comfortable. I changed the odd bank of plugs and coil packs, but they kept breaking and i gave up for now but will get the even bank done soon. Also need to get a new rear differential cover. Fun Fact: The 11th gen was the first one to have the front bumper tucked in so this truck is the grand daddy of today's modern truck.
I have a 12 th Generation F-150. It’s a 2012 Lariat 4x4 5.0 8cyl. I bought it in 2019. I use it for personal needs. No towing! I have always wanted a F-150 since I was 18, now I am 61. I have made many upgrades/changes just to keep it running good. I am enjoying my F-150.
Taking everything into consideration, I think 11th gens are the best. Modern style, has most amenities that you would need, extremely affordable won’t break the bank and solid drivetrain. The 5.4 3V gets a lot of crap, but in reality it’s a solid engine when kept up with. Keep up with oil changes and basic maintenance and they will go over 300k. I’m currently at 200k on my 04 lariat and it’s been a fantastic truck! The 4.6 is great too and 4.2 V6. The 11th gens are the best looking of the 3 in my opinion.
'02 Lariat is my truck. It's a survivor. I've had it since 2010. The 5.4 rattles a bit, but it always runs. I pull a boat with it mainly, but also construction gear. I love having a truck where one more scratch won't bother me at all!
I have a 2005 FX4 with the 5.4 and have well over 200k miles. Been a good truck to me, has never left me stranded and always hauls/tows what I want it to. I know they have issues but like any vehicle, if you take care of it it'll take care of you.
@@lockheed57 Sometimes I wonder what I am on. I quit heroin 3 weeks ago, and I beat a Chevy guy up for looking at me wrong. I was mad. But I've seen the light, but don't know much about you.
I wish you would’ve covered that 09-10 models were the only year for the 4.6 3v because they’re honestly reliable motors and they are seeming to be cheaper than the 5.0s
I have a 2015 F150 Platinum with 50k miles on it and absolutely love it. It’s a Fx4 and has some meaty tires on her . I love the 360 camera it has and the old Sony sound system it has . No problems yet .
I currently own a 2004 f250 6.0 diesel but I'm needing a second truck just to drive to work I drive 82 miles a day to work so using it for towing is not a must but a crew cab is and so is 4x4. My grandfather has a 07 f150 lariat with all the options and he loves it and he has put over 60.000 miles on his in just the 3 years he has owned it and has not had any trouble with it at all.
@@freakfiveoh na I didn't get EcoBoost cause i need a work truck i drive lot of miles I didn't think EcoBoost would hold up and if my motor blows up there dime a dozen
'17 5.0 4x4 it's my favorite vehicle ever and I've been through a few cars and trucks. Putting a ton of miles on it because I love driving it and every time I go anywhere I drive it.
I am a Ford fan. I am schooled on them. Well I started off with a Mustang, then a Ranger. Then a big black, NEW 11th gen 2004 fx4. Now I am currently working out of a Lightning Blue 12th gen 2014 fx4. 3.5 twin turbo. Only had it for 6 months. Folks, I am very satisfied. Also, back in 2004 they were no UA-cam videos on this stuff. Just a few websites. Difference for me now is, I am up late at night, & 'am also late for work a lot cause I cannot get off my dam computer watching these vids... DAMMIT!!!
Good info, bud. I rock an 11th gen 2008 XL w/ the 4.6l V8, 4x4, longbed and standard cab. She's been my daily for about 3 years. I've put a lot of work into her. I bought it really cheap and it was not treated well. I'm still working on her. I'm almost done with all the aesthetics. New rims and tires(damn they are small stocks that come with em), bumpers, headlights, emblems etc. Cut out some rust holes. Patched and painted. Added fender flares for the beefer wheels. And bow that she looks bold and beautiful that necessary stuff. New ignition lock cylinder (the stock one was a poor design) Lower power steering hoses. Couple bushings in the front end. And unfortunately I just did the brakes in the front...the steering knuckles and connections are completely rusted out. It will cost me $700 to $1000 just in parts! Always check the underbody thoroughly before you buy! And so, I'm pondering on getting the newer 12th gen. Ya just gotta ask yourself some times...Is the juice worth the sqeeze?
Traded in my 2020 f150 2.7 L for a 2010 with the 4.6 L. A little more beat up, but the engine seems strong. Overall, not paying $550 a month is a dream come true.
I’ve got a 2004 Ford F-150 fx4 with the 5.4L v8. Best truck I’ve ever owned. 250000 miles on it now haven’t have any issues. Tows a lot, I work at a boat dealership and I have yet to find a boat I can’t tow, I have the only half ton truck there but I can tow everything their 3/4 tons can. Recently towed a 30’ Pursuit, weighing 8300lbs with relative ease. Great truck
If you’re looking for reliability and cheapness, I’d find a newer truck with the 5.0, and as few gadgets as possible. I think all the new gadgets in cars/trucks these days will be a nightmare for anyone buying older used cars in the future.
I had an 08 11th gen extended cab fx4 with the 5.4 and it was a nice solid truck. Good power and sounded great but mileage definitely wasn't great. Had no major issues when I owned it and only got rid of it cuz I started having kids and those suicide doors were a pain in the ass with car seats. I currently just purchased a 2014 12th gen fx4 super crew with the 3.5 ecoboost. So far I absolutely love this truck! More power than I'll ever need. Pretty decent gas mileage. Super comfortable and fun to drive. Also very quiet in the cab and although I do love the sound of a nice v8 the engine is so smooth and quiet that I can't complain. The biggest thing I've learned after doing my research is that if you get a used ecoboost with any kind of mileage on it make sure it was well taken care of. As long as the proper maintenance is done they can last you a long time but if they weren't taken care of properly it can cost you a lot of money to fix. My truck was a 1 owner and had all the maintenance done at the dealership and I could see all the work that was done on it and with the condition of the truck I was not afraid to purchase it. Now with a used vehicle anything can happen but so far I'm very happy with my decision. I love the fact that it has an actual sold steel front bumper! lol In a day and age where everything is going plastic there is still plenty of steel on this truck. In summary if you only have a few bucks to spend the 11th gen should treat you just fine as long as it's not rusted out and beaten. The 12th gen I feel is pretty much just a newer and upgraded version and in my opinion one of the best looking models out there. I have the hid headlights and raptor grill and love the look over the new ones. For the 13th gen like was mentioned in the video you'll just got more safety features ect and a newer nicer riding vehicle but you will be paying for it lol. Hope this helps some people out.
I have a 2018 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 3.5eco. Wife and I drove it from Portland OR to Topeka KS and back, putting 4000 miles on it. Had the cruise control set at 90 when ever possible, and the truck was loaded with luggage. We averaged 19.7mpg, actual not just shown on the dash. Love that truck.
Love my 05 f150, although I've replaced parts on it twice over for what I bought it. 180,000 + miles and still running strong. I kinda wanna keep it for my son's first car or keep it as a 'lakehouse truck' somewhere in the future.
2014 12th gen F150 had three of them. Two went to 200k plus miles. All 3.5 ecoboost. The last one went to 268,000 then head gasket went. It was mostly highway and not towing. Still I like them a lot. Backup camera is a feature to not live without. Basic maintenance otherwise and 5W20 oil has helped
I have a 12th gen F150 Plat, 3.5 tt too. I have not had any problems either. I traded in my 08 F150 XLT for it.... The interior is sweet, I love my truck.
I have a 12th generation F-150. 2013 LARIAT with the 3.5L Ecoboost. I've had the truck for 4 months. The people that owned it prior to me took pretty good care of it. Once I got my hands on it I did all the basic stuff like switching out the fluids for fresh fluids. I like to know what's in my truck so by changing out the fluids there's no guessing on whether or not a particular oil is full or partial synthetic. The truck had just over 115,000 miles on it when I got it. I switched out the spark plugs because the truck would sputter beyond 65 MPH. My fuel economy is still pretty bad though. I'm getting about 13 MPG and while I do live in a area that has a lot of stop-and-go traffic I still expect a little bit better fuel efficiency then that. I found an affordable catalytic converter so I'm going to swap out the old one for the new one and see if that helps eliminate any blockage in the exhaust. I've put nearly 3,500 miles on the truck since I bought it and I haven't had any issues with it actually running. All I'm trying to do is to get it to run more efficient.
Yeah, it’s always good practice to change the fluids when buying any used vehicle. Hopefully the new cat helps you out, I wouldn’t be too thrilled with that gas mileage either.
@@freakfiveoh I just had brand new Motorcraft spark plugs installed yesterday and boy do I see a difference. The truck has way more get-up-and-go now! $51 for the spark plugs and $75 for labor I was able to get it done for less than $130. I still want to change the catalytic converter since the truck has more than a hundred thousand miles on it but it's not a super huge priority unless the truck starts acting up again. And when I mean by acting up I'm just talkin about fuel efficiency, poor acceleration and the sputtering that I got when I was going down the interstate beyond 65 mph. If all I needed to do is switch out the spark plugs then hopefully I'm good for a few more thousand miles.
Heck if your main concern about buying an 11th generation is the navigation system, you could just go aftermarket, I put a Pioneer system in mine with the wireless android auto/apple carplay on it, I don't even think you can get that on the latest models!
I put an alpine restyle in my 2011. Back up camera and Navi. New speakers and amp. Thats all I need. Heated seated would be nice tho. But not for 20k more.
I drive a 16’ F-150 2.7 4x4 purely for the reason that we have snow sometimes in winter, they’re comfortable, and the 2.7 gets good gas mileage. I enjoy the creature comforts of a trucks, nice smooth ride on the highway (especially for road trips) sitting nice and high up and a big comfortable seat. Ram or Ford, those two are the ones id recommend.
Matthew Steinert I have a 2020 5.0 and I’m averaging around 18 mpg, have gotten 25.6 mpg on the highway during a small road trip. What mpg are you getting?
I have an 11th generation that was a fleet truck ordered with the police/municipal package with the 4.6 romeo and I wouldn't trade it even up for a brand new f150 and even though it has 200.000 miles on the clock it doesn't use or leak a drop of oil it doesn't peck or tick and hasn't once made me walk or failed to start and in the two years I've owned it have had zero problems out of it and I wouldn't hesitate to make a coast to coast trip in it today, but that's me, peace of mind reliability is alot more important than keeping up with the Jones's
Bought ‘19 XLT 5.0 Coyote AWD Crewcab to move family, haul furniture, gardening products for house, and tow the odd trailer when moving. Love the aluminum body, love the V8 and durable simplicity and features that come with XLT. I want a simple truck not a limo but this one has just the right amount of actually practical features...and you can find them new as I did with huge discounts. I got $15k discount in Virginia and traded in my ‘09 Platinum V8 Triton...but there were $20k discounts at Mall of Ga in Atlanta.
I've been eyeing the 12th gen 5.0 for a while. I've also been comparing them to the Ram 1500 Hemi. I've always been a Ford fan but the Ram seems to have better styling at a slightly more affordable price. It's a tough decision. But I've got probably another year before I can make that decision as my wife wants to drive her minivan into the ground before we think about getting a truck. The main reason I need a truck is for room for the family but also for those weekend projects and runs to Home Depot. I also want something with a beefier suspension that can handle the payload of week long family trips as a minivan's suspension is weak and the back end is bouncy when loaded down with any amount of weight.
I like the styling of the new Rams, but I think the 12th gen F150s had a simple enough interior that it will age well. I ended up selling mine and there's a big part of me that wishes I hadn't.
I am a MOPAR guy but as soon as Dodge went to the MDS system, the reliability of the Hemi went to the dogs. My 2013 hemi detonated at 65,000 miles. I still own a 2004 Dodge 2500 HD Hemi (older pre MDS and over 200,000 miles) for towing, but love my 2014 F150. They are WORLDS apart in regards to ride quality and economy. You can't go wrong with either a 12th or 13th gen F150 and I prefer the Coyote V8 as I am used to driving a Hemi and that 5.0 is a sweet motor.
Have the 2010 fx4 and tuscany package.. no issues since new 140 miles still running like new .. using sintetic blend oil from motorcraft and octane 93 ..
2005 f150 with a 4.6 two valve. It's slow but it can carry any payload I need it to, it can tow anything I need to and I can get 18.5 mpg on the highway. Not to mention it's reliable as hell. I'm coming up on 160k miles and no problems
I love 2011+ F150s. I came from a 6.0 06' that i thought was solid af until I got my 5.0L. I bought mine with 134k in 2015 and it's at 178k now and it's been FLAWlESS besides a coolant hose replacement and a small transmission leak. Last year I bought a 2017 F150 single cab with 5.0 and I've added a twin turbo one kit, with some slicks, and I'm in the 9s in colorado lol. I'll be sticking with these for awhile lol
Bought a 13th generation 2016 Crew Cab XLT 4x4 with the 2.7 ecoboost back in late March. It has the 302A package, I think. SYNC 3, heated seats, chrome package and remote start. The sticker price was 24,500. Had 68,000 miles and coming up on 80k currently. I have it as a multi purpose vehicle. Our first kid is on the way, I work in residential construction, and we use it as a road trip vehicle. Gotta say I love it. I was a little skeptical about the 2.7 at first but it has not disappointed at all (other than it sounding like a vacuum cleaner lol). I do tow off and on for work and gas mileage does plummet when I do (I normally get around 11-13 when towing in a mix of highway and city) but on the highway for a road trip I can get around 24-25 MPG. Love it!
I just recently bought a 2014 or 12th gen f150 king ranch with the 4x4 offroad package and ecoboost and I love it. No lack of power, its luxurious enough for me on the inside, just an all around great truck so far! This is also the first truck I have ever owned
Appreciate the work you did on this. I currently have an ‘03 super duty with 80k, regular cab 4x4, 8’ bed in good condition. Not a daily driver. Could be the last truck I ever own. However, I have been considering replacing it. Ruled out the smaller pick ups as I tow a trailer and need at 7k lbs of tow capacity. A life long GM guy, they lost me in ‘08 with the buyout and I’m not sorry. So I have been studying everything I can on the F 150. The EcoBoost system is now 10 years old. They are interesting but I am not sold. I have concentrated on the 5.0L and understand there are 3(?) generations of that engine. Also not sure about the 10speed auto (have a 6 speed man in the SD). Would like to keep the 8’ bed but that is unlikely.. the neighbor has a well maintained ‘13 super cab that would probably do nicely, 80k. I might have a shot at that. Thoughts? Ps, what about the “wet belt “ driven oil pump in the ‘21 coyote motor?
I'm not familiar with the oil pump you speak of, but if all you need to tow is 7k pounds, there are a lot of F150s, Silverados, Rams, or whatever you like that can safely tow that type of weight.
I have a 4 door 2008 with the 5.4. Shes a total beast, riding on a 4 inch lift with leveling kit and 35's, custom exhaust from front to back, and a cold air intake. Im going to post some videos of here on my youtube here soon, right now I only have a few short clips of my 1996 Ford Bronco
Got my grandpas 2011 XLT 5.0. Absolutely flawless. 160 thousand on it. Never missed an oil change. Driven hard but i am seriously impressed with the coyote reliability. Would absolutely buy another 12th gen after this one.
I have a 2014, XLT, 3.5 eco boost, I still love the look of my truck and I think it stands up pretty Well as far as looks go. I have not had to do much to it besides regular maintenance, I did have problem with my front tires wearing weird and ended up having to replace the struts and now everything is fine. Oh and I just had to replace the battery, once I did, I began hearing weird clicking noises from under the dashboard, seems one or more of the actuators that control heating and air are going out and I will need place them($30.part). If I go to dealer it will be well over a $1000 bucks, but I guess the whole middle of the dash needs to come off to get to them so lots of time involved. I will do it myself and save the money. Nothing else, I am pretty happy with my 6 year old paid off truck👍
I've got an 06 King ranch with 160k miles, and so far the only issue I've had with it was that the alternator crapped out. It was very well maintained by the original owner, and I've kept up with that. I prefer the body style of the 04-08, and absolutely love the King ranch interior, but would love some of the more modern features especially the sync package.
I purchased a 2016 F150 XLT Supercab with a 3.5L TI-VCT V6 in 2020. It's a two wheel drive and had no issues with it even in snowy weather. I continue to keep up with the maintenance and knock on wood haven't had any mechanical issues as well. I've done some heavy hauling but haven't had the opportunity to do any towing but the gas mileage is phenomenal. Currently has 72,000 miles and don't plan on buying anything else anytime soon. Are there any reviews on that year ?
I would say the TFL Truck guys probably have some good videos around that time. I think they were a newer channel back then, so it's hard to say, but I know they've made a lot of video reviews on F150s over the years.
As far as truck are concerned, ive owned 3 5.9 Cummins. Still hanging on to a 1991 12 valve. Traded my 04.5 3500 in on an 2013 Fx4 SCREW 5.0 with 58K last November. Currently have 73K. while it drives completly different than a Cummins I do enjoy it overall it. I feel like the transmission is tuned for fuel effeciency. So i frequently use the gear range selector to lock out 5th and 6th gear as I do not need them lugging the engine at 30MPH. I also use tow/haul and the manual mode just as frequent. The things i enjoy most of my truck are locking rear and large fuel tank. Thus far I've had to replace the upper radiator hose and a leaking valve cover. Blend door actuator needs to be replaced. My mechanic found water in the front diff cover on top of it been dangerously low on fluid. My AC wasnt working upon purchase and it turns out the previous owner or mechanic overfill the system with freon so it had to be drained and refilled. Also, ive noticed this winter that while driving in cold mornings, the locker icon appears on my dash. I have to flick the 4x4 button for it to disappear. Other than that everything is good. However, the Tundra may be my next to purchase if issues continue to persist.
Q: Which F150 is best for solo commuting, general pointless driving around, and idling in parking lots? A: All of them, but the quad-cabs with the biggest available gas V8s are best.
al fresco This is literally my situation right now. I’m a city boy that moved to a suburban/rural area that recently got 30in of snow. Spent the last year educating myself on picks so I can responsibly purchase 7yrs old rig. Any pointers???
@@kingmelanin7468 The government plows the roads and you clear your driveway so the question isn't about driving through 30" of snow; it's about how much and how often do you haul people and stuff? But before that you must decide if you like to plunder resources or use them conservatively.
King Melanin7 I’m on the same situation and drive close to an hour for work. I’d go with the 2.7 EcoBoost or 3.3 v6. I just bought a 2019 super crew 4x4 with the naturally aspirated 3.3v6 and 6 speed. It’s got plenty of power for what I need. The 2.7 EcoBoost would be nice but then again if you plan to keep it for a long time I’m still not sure how maintaining a turbo will do on the long run when ford has done naturally aspirated v6 and 6 speed transmissions very reliably for a long time.
Great video thank you brother 👍 Quick question- any F150 suggestions if you have say $3500 or less than 4k to spend? If I do ever get a pickup it would be my 1st one. Love Toyota but too expensive. Any chance of getting into an 11th generation for that amount of money?
Depends on the condition and mileage you're comfortable with. These trucks are getting older, but with prices being what they are these days, it might be hard finding much post 2000 for that money. I haven't really tried looking though, so you'd just have to check.
I had the 11th generation Harley Davidson f150 it is just all-around a super nice truck it looks brand new and is 14 years old the 5.4 v8 has held up well is very reliable and tows things like quads and boats good have an awsome stock sound system and a sunroof is comfortable and I would really recommend this truck to others.
I had a 2006 11th gen F150 and it has been my favorite truck I have had. It had 256,500 miles on it. I would still have it if it didn't get totalled in a car wreck.
Great presentation. I have a 12th gen EcoBoost Lariat crew cab. The limo sized interior hooked me. When you can, talk about the Sync versions available for each gen.
I think that would be a good topic once the new generation trucks are out. I’ve definitely got plenty of experience with my first gen unit, so I’d like to research what experience people have had with the newer sync systems.
If it's really only got 24,000 miles on it, I would probably suggest a fluid change. Unless you know when they were all changed last, there's a good chance some of them have been sitting longer than they should. You'll also want to check for leaks around any of the seals. That's a low mileage truck, so if it's been sitting for a while, issues can creep up. You could also find a Ford technician and have an inspection done, they can check all the basic stuff for a reasonable price.
I just bought a 2013 F150 Lariat 3.5 EcoBoost two months ago. This past Sunday July 25 2021, I had an almost head on. Between me steeering to the right at the last minute and the 'Built Ford Tough" truck I was driving, Truck was totaled has had nothing but a few nicks..went to work the next morning. I am now looking for a 2011- 2013 F150 XLT to replace..lot cheaper and has the 5.0 not the ecoboost..we will see how that goes.
@@freakfiveoh I actually found a 2009 F150 XLT ( $15000 cheaper) that almost looks identical to the demolished truck. A few luxury items missing like moon roof, leather seats heated and cooled seats, back up monitor, tailgate ladder, rear view morrors that fold in....but I have to say, it looks great inside same color and I don't miss that big bulky console..was in my way all the time..and this XLT drives GREAT!!! the 5.4 triton even with miles on feels so smooth...A lot nicer than the EcoBoost. Just cant tow as much but the money I saved..I buy something cheap just to tow and use on the farm as a farm truck.
You have given me the best INFO.I have never subscribed to any one before. 04 F150 SLT 20070. miles. 5.4 3 v v8. I do not the turbo..i think they will give trouble in the future.Have put 4-5 sets of coil packs, plugs ,braking several of then.Bought truck new $26000. i will keep it on the farm.Want a new truck do nor want to spend $50.000. $30.000 will get a used truck?
I have a 10th Gen 2000 F150 super cab with 4.6 v8. Has 210k miles and runs and drives like new. I will be sad if this truck dies. Ford trucks, regardless of which generation you have, are the best trucks on the road I believe.
Wonderfully done video! In this, you briefly touch on quality, but you only mention the interior quality... Hmmm. The elephant in the room being the frequent breakdowns of the 5.4 3Valve in the 11th generation? And, of course, by the time the 11th generation was introduced, most of the spark plug issues had been addressed (not necessarily resolved, but addressed none the less...
I’ll save y’all time get a 2011 and up f150
I would have to agree, Ford took their time updating their power trains, but I think they’re well worth the extra cost.
what about a 06 4.6 f150...
i heard they had no issues like the 5.4 headache
15 and 16 with the fresh body style and they worked out the issues with the 6 speed by then 👍🏻
@@whatifidream2191 I hear that too.
@@whatifidream2191 I hear the 4.6 is a durable engine

How's your 2005 F150 ? ..
Also .. What engine size ?
Lucky you!
But I won't be able to afford one of those for 15 or 20 years
I agree, I like those a lot. I mostly like when you see an older gen truck that’s been well maintained, and looks practically brand new.
11 Gen. Platform is the pre raptor
I have a 2011 Ford F-150 with 5.0l and love the truck I’m gonna try to keep it with me for a while
Yeah, I definitely don’t regret getting my 5.0. I need to add an exhaust to it.
Kim Jong Un dame. My 2011 4x4 got over 200k original everything. Purrs like a kitten. Bought it used with mainly highway miles for $8k
Yea boii. Same the coyote 5.0 is the way. No timing chain stretching or waste gates getting stuck or carbon buildup on your intake valves you get with EcoBoost.
Good maintenance they last forever. Better get a new gasser b4 the electrics take over!
Have the same and no plans to get rid of.
My 09 4.6 has 420000 miles lol
I've been driving an 02 with a 4.6 for twenty years now and think it is the best truck i've ever owned. I plan to keep it as long as I can.
I think the 12th gens will age well, and they were the first to get the newer lineup of engines
2006 F-150 Lariat with 345,000 miles. Love this truck, but it is showing its age. Looking forward to getting a 2020 early next year.
They are best of best . Best ever. We have a new F150 & Ranger. Love em. New Ranger is amazing an most popular truck on daily basis on our household.
The 5.4?
@@Juliuscaesar69th yes, 5.4
@@Jsuarez6 wow, any camphaser/timing chain repairs?

Yeah, I think the 12th gens are a good sweet spot, and a good affordable option right now since a lot of people want the more current 13th gens

What ever fords interior is junk and plus the 5.4 is a piece of shit.
Mine started to have a few squeaks, but they seemed to come more from the seats than snatching else in the interior.
What oil brand do you use?

New rims and tires(damn they are small stocks that come with em), bumpers, headlights, emblems etc. Cut out some rust holes. Patched and painted. Added fender flares for the beefer wheels.
And bow that she looks bold and beautiful that necessary stuff.
New ignition lock cylinder (the stock one was a poor design)
Lower power steering hoses.
Just bought 2013 5.0 V8 Supercrew 4x4 160k/miles for $10k and so far love it.
Great truck
Hey Adam Sandler.....WTF...what is the best one for cost of ownership.....most reliable?
I've got a 2016 F150 Lariat w/ 3.5L EcoBoost and I've only got 12,5xx miles on it. I love it.
Yeah, I decided to get a Jeep when my truck started giving me some trouble, but now that it's fixed I don't really want to sell it lol.
What engine & valve?
2014 12th gen F150 had three of them. Two went to 200k plus miles. All 3.5 ecoboost. The last one went to 268,000 then head gasket went. It was mostly highway and not towing. Still I like them a lot. Backup camera is a feature to not live without. Basic maintenance otherwise and 5W20 oil has helped
Yeah, my truck is the first vehicle I’ve had with a backup camera and it’s definitely one of my favorite features.
Looking at a 2012 Lariat with 86k miles, with 3.5 V6, hearing good & bad things about the ecoboost, what are your thoughts with your truck, Thanks
12th Gen F150 Platinum, 3.5L. I keep serviced and it runs and looks great.
I do miss how easy it is to change our head units in older vehicles. Now you have to buy whole dash kits to add something aftermarket.
Have a 13th gen 2019 stx and i LOVE my truck!!! The eco boost is a monster and great on fuel for a truck
Just curious what your gas milage is. I have a 5.0 and was wondering how the EcoBoost compares
@@matthewsteinert1002 average is 17.2 mpg
2012 raptor 6.2 from a 2014 tundra. Absolutely love it. 100k no issues.
There are probably a lot of good deals on them now that the new models are out.
Have the 2010 fx4 and tuscany package.. no issues since new 140 miles still running like new .. using sintetic blend oil from motorcraft and octane 93 ..
bought a 10 gen for 400$ onside the road in 2017 , had 160k when i got it put 60k miles on it no problems
Love it!
I bought new 2014 Lariat 4WD in 2015, cause I wasn’t sure about aluminum body. I really like my Lariat, it’s loaded 3.5 eco. 57000 miles so far..
I just recently bought a 2014 or 12th gen f150 king ranch with the 4x4 offroad package and ecoboost and I love it. No lack of power, its luxurious enough for me on the inside, just an all around great truck so far! This is also the first truck I have ever owned
That’s sweet, more and more I wish I had gone for a king ranch. The newer ones looks pretty sweet, and I like the color schemes they use.
Based on my experience(I have owned 11th and 12th gen), I would recommend 2011 or newer.
Ya i own a 2010 4.6 and i want a 2016 and up so bad but im only 19
Any of the 2000 or newer ones are good.
I’ve had three: a 2000, 2003, and 2007(current). All have ran well
Got my grandpas 2011 XLT 5.0.
2013 FX4 with the 3.5L Ecoboost. I love it so much!
You know 2009 - 2010 still had the 5.4 3v or 4.6 3v. 2011 is when they put the 5.0 coyote motor
Jim Briley glad I’m not the only one who knows this! I have a 2011 5.0 f150 and it’s quick but I love my 2010 4.6 3v a lot more for some reason!
Had a 2006 f150 with the 4.6 in my opinion it's the best engine Ford made since they discontinued the Windsor engine line.
Edwin Vanleuven yea it’s definitely one of the best light duty motors of the new body style fords, too bad they discontinued it
Just got a 2010 4.6 2v and seems to be a solid running truck. Heard good things about the 4.6
I have a 2005 F150 work truck 4.2 v6. It works well for my business and hauling jobs. Plan on keeping it for awhile longer.
Will McCargish But they have the shitty 5.4.
My 2010 f150 4.6 hasn’t let me down in 230,000 miles
I own the same model have been good for me
As far as truck are concerned, ive owned 3 5.9 Cummins.
I like the tundras, I’m curious to see what the updated one looks like
My 2014 f150 Xlt 4x4 has 296k miles on it
I have F150 2002 all body work done new paint new wheels 35 inch tires 5.7 ,love it looks new supercrew fx4. 5 inch lift
Q: Which F150 is best for solo commuting, general pointless driving around, and idling in parking lots?
A: All of them, but the quad-cabs with the biggest available gas V8s are best.
al fresco
This is literally my situation right now.
The government does a crap job of plowing the roads here. My street usually never even gets done. Just ends up packed down into ice.
2010 4.6 super crew. Dumped a fair bit into mechanical upgrades required on a 12 year old ford, but it's running good so far
Get a 2009 to 2011 ford ranger. Better then Toyota and sell cheaper then f150s
Sorry to hear about your truck, what did you replace it with?
Great presentation. I have a 12th gen EcoBoost Lariat crew cab. The limo sized interior hooked me. When you can, talk about the Sync versions available for each gen.
I think that would be a good topic once the new generation trucks are out. I’ve definitely got plenty of experience with my first gen unit, so I’d like to research what experience people have had with the newer sync systems.
I have a 2007 with 4.6 engine and it drives amazing. I must admit that you must keep up with annoying little repairs but overall it is a good truck.
I think at some point you just gotta focus on keeping the drivetrain in good shape, and just run the truck until the wheels fall off.
Im inheriting a 2007 F150 xlt triton with 24,000 miles this week from my uncle. Anything I should check on it right away?
If it's really only got 24,000 miles on it, I would probably suggest a fluid change. Unless you know when they were all changed last, there's a good chance some of them have been sitting longer than they should. You'll also want to check for leaks around any of the seals. That's a low mileage truck, so if it's been sitting for a while, issues can creep up. You could also find a Ford technician and have an inspection done, they can check all the basic stuff for a reasonable price.
I own a 2004 f150, fx4 package. Love the truck to death, she's got 210K miles and still runs like a champ.
That’s awesome man, anything that makes it over 200k is a winner
My 2004 sucks
I just bought a 2013 F150 Lariat 3.5 EcoBoost two months ago. This past Sunday July 25 2021, I had an almost head on. Between me steeering to the right at the last minute and the 'Built Ford Tough" truck I was driving, Truck was totaled has had nothing but a few nicks..went to work the next morning. I am now looking for a 2011- 2013 F150 XLT to replace..lot cheaper and has the 5.0 not the ecoboost..we will see how that goes.
Sorry to hear about your truck, I hope you were able to find another one!
I’ve got an 08 lol I’ve dumped some cash into it but it’s Been good to me. Is my daily driver, but I think my next ford might be the raptor.
