I have a 2013 f150 5.0. Has not been kind to me. 82k miles on it now. Replaced the water pump once already and the second one is now leaking as well. A/C compressor is shot and needs to be replaced since 65k miles. Front and rear suspension replaced. Two ailments as it keeps falling out of spec and chewing thru tires. Rear window replaced on recall. Transmission reprogrammed under recall. Rust coming through both sides below the rear doors. Right rear passenger door lock broke inside the actuator and now we can’t open the door. Still haven’t fixed as the door needs to be open to unscrew the actuator housing. Sync system never works correctly even with updates. Zero issues with all my old fords. Got a lemon with this truck.
A muffler and 7 or 8 throttle bodies...nothing out of the ordinary.... Wtf....exhaust manifolds yep check ford hasn't been able to make them since the 70s.... And dude thinks this is good or bad? 11 year old nissan and all it got was a set of shocks a battery a few end links and of course brakes and tires.... 15 tundra now 6 yrs old done nothing yet and prob won't for another year.... Ford owners be like only changed engine once great truck getting another one. Wtf guys
352,000 Miles on my 2011 F150 5.0 xlt runs like a clock. The only problem is a short that blows F45 fuse on the charging system. The dealer is working on it.
230,000 miles on the 3.5 eco in my fully optioned, highest curb weight F150. Just did a water pump at 227,000, and a high pressure fuel pump at 229,000. Nothing else on the truck has needed work outside of maintenance. I was die hard V8 before this but the refinement, reliability and the power delivery has given me great respect for this motor.
Stories like yours have convinced me to give the 3.5 a try. You hear a lot of stories but the only way to truly know if you’re going to like it is to get one.
I bet you have plenty of oil leaks and broken exhaust bolts. All the 3.5 engines have very weak exhaust header bolts. Very expensive to remove them and replace once the exhaust start leaking and does.
@@tekneiq yes, 315,000+. Just put another set of Michelin LTX AT2’s that usually run 85K before replacement, so, I’m going to count on 400K out of the F150.
Thank you for finally doing high mileage long term reliability videos!!! This is a big deal because I like to keep my vehicles for at least 10 years and I usually buy them around 90k miles to start with.
@@seth11111 I just starting buying Toyota's with about 350,000 miles and hope too own them long enough too pass down too my children and them too pass on too my future grandchildren
I’ve have a 2016 Expedition eco-boost put a programmer in it with high octane gas that’s another hundred horsepower I believe that it’s pushing 450 plus horsepower. So fun to drive tows like a big dog. The programmer made a huge difference. I’ve had programmers on all my cars and never noticed a difference you do with ego boost highly recommend it just change your oil and eco-boost when your supposed to because of the turbos.
I respect the first guy so much. Knew exactly what he needed for his daily life plus some fun and got what he needed. Just the necessities and no wasted money. Every part fo that truck is functional and he's taken good care of it.
I finally traded my 2012 eco boost away in July 2019 but still had the original coil packs at 250,000 miles. I should have changed them but had no problems, safe to say I went with another 3.5.
My 2002 5.4L ate coil packs like chocolate chip cookies. At least one a year, and sometimes three. It is the only maintenance I ever had to do on it outside of oil, filters, belts, brake pads/shoes, battery, and tires. Same starter/alternator for 227,000 miles. Even the calipers and cylinders were original.
Nope. I'm the owner of the white truck It had a Ford TB replaced at 60k, 70k, 115k under ESP warranty. Still $100 deductible plus downtime, scheduling, etc. That's $300 plus my time and hassle. Ain't nobody got time for that. I got tired of the Ford design and this bs. ESP warranty expired at 125k. I bought an autozone TB and they were dumb enough to sell me one with a lifetime warranty for $135. I just switch out about every 30-40k miles. Takes less than 5 minutes. No issues anymore
I have a 15' 3.5 Eco with only 30k miles and it. It has gone thru 3 throttle bodies. All replaced by a Ford dealer. Unfortunately the last one on my dime just a few weeks ago. Love the truck & power it has to pull my trailer though. Great gas mileage as well.
At age 66 I still do my own repairs on my 2014 5.0. It has room to work on it. 130,000 miles one upper hose O ring leak and a set of sparkplugs. Engine oil changes every 3-5,000 with everything else oil/fluid at 24,000 miles just because that is how I have always done. Added Powerstop tow brake system to front and pads at rear. That's all so far pulling a 7,000# travel trailer 8,000 miles most years. Love your channel !
I had a 2.7 eco boost 2015. I own a 5.0 2018 with a Roush cold air intake. Both did very well. The 2.7 had 50,000 miles with zero problems. I traded it because I retired. I wanted a little more sound so most exhaust shops wanted about 1200 dollars. Tuffy muffler cut out the factory muffler and then installed a performance one. The cost was 279.00 dollars and sounds great. Towing a 5000 lbs camper will average 9.5 mph to11.5 mph. Over all I like the 5.0 with the modifications that were done. The fuel mileage is close to the same on both . I am a big fan of FLT keep up the good work. When I get 250,000 it will be time for a video.
I have a 2015 4X4 Lariat with 3.5 Eco, 115K miles. It's been rock-solid reliable, and with the big Eco, it's actually a pleasure to drive. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I'll try to remember to update this post when I cross 200K.
@@erictrevino3781 No, I ended up having to sell it at ~145K due to a lifestyle change. It was still trouble-free. It's still my favorite vehicle of all time, since I started driving in 1973.
Mike W the owner actually commented on this video to another commentator, saying it’s not the TBs themselves that keeps failing but the microprocessor that controls the TBs is what’s making them fail. He said for some reason, high boost and fuel while towing just throws the chip out of whack. 150K miles of towing will cause that, his word.
@@jayg9732 free after you waste a day driving a few hours to the nearest Ford dealer and wait around with your thumb up your bum wasting a whole day of your life each time? Yeah, sounds great.
I had an 2014 F-150 Platinum Ecoboost with the long bed and it was an extremely well built truck. Quiet as a limousine and very powerful. Perfect for work or business. Also I never had to change a throttle body nor did the backup camera have issues.
That spreadsheet is more impressive than either of those trucks. That's not a slam against the truck, just incredible record keeping. Even if they were doctored records, lot of work went into it.
The excel sheet is for records maintenance and yes, taxes. I got sick of wondering when I did xxx repair or maintenance last. Just "CONTROL F" to find what I'm looking for
2003 F-150 xl 4.2L manual transmission Single cab short bed 190,000 miles. Dad bought it new from the dealership. Doing a clutch system overhaul is the only major repair I have ever had to do. Very impressed with the durability. It has been abused and overworked constantly, but never quits!
I also have the 3.5, and the power is impressive. With V8 motor, the engine really comes alive at higher rpms. The 3.5 has surprising power at low rpms and keeps pouring it on all the way to the red line. Basically power on tap, at any time.
@@whataboutbob9786 that’s because the 3.5 is a truck based engine, made to haul and pull things. The v8 is a car based engine in a truck, no power till 4000 rpm. It’s difficult to pull a load from the start at 4000 rpms
Agreed. I always had v-8s (except the 4.9L I6 which was a monster) as the V-6s always felt under-powered. I was talked into the 3.5L with the 10 speed when I bought my 2017. The transmission acts a little odd from time to time, but the engine has every bit the power and acceleration of my '02 5.4L Triton and much better fuel economy. I have easily towed a trailer with the v-6 without a problem and hauled nearly a yard of black dirt. Even moved an 1800lb pallet of concrete. The suspension groaned like hell under the strain, but the engine did not even seem to notice.
Mines a 99 F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke. 430k miles. I've done every oil change but 3 of them. 3500 to 4000 miles between oil changes. Still runs great.
Yeah but when something goes wrong with a Diesel get ready money 💰 💴 so so expensive to replace every single thing in diesel. Toyotas gives you way more reliability and not expensive to fix I know you can’t pull the big loads with a gas engine Toyota but way more reliable and affordable
This is probably the best series ! This Covid-19 actually threw you guys a freaking bone. There is nothing better than the collaboration of a professional and a customer!
Great video! I have a 13' Ecoboost King Ranch with 195k miles on it, no major issues and runs great. Looks much younger than the odometer would indicate. I also have a 2001 F150 4.6 Supercab with 555k miles on it, I have a video of that truck on my channel. I'm about to post an update to that video, since it was shot three years ago, I have done a good bit to update the ol' truck.
Love my 5.0 but could use a little more torque towing a loaded cargo trailer. I'll probably go with a 250 when I'm in the market for an upgrade but based on what people are saying, I'll be using my 5.0 for a very long time!
You could get some lower gearing installed on it and it’ll shorten the gearing up a little bit to help you get some torque sooner. Ford has always seemed to have really long gears on their trucks and I know it’s mostly for gas mileage but they also have better cooling on their transmissions than Chevy from around the same year so it can handle shorter gears better. My dad knew some guys with the same year model of f150 and Silverado 1500 and they were towing some campers up a mountain. One was lighter, being the one behind the ford and the heavier one behind the Chevy. The chevy’s transmission started overheating so they swapped campers and not only did the ford not sway as much but the transmission handled it just fine.
2013 F150 5.0 brand new, I currently have 141,000 miles on it, go camping, hiking, to the beach it has a camper cap, and live in New Hampshire. I replaced 1 radiator hose $32 dollars because I couldn't find the necessary O rings, around 98k. At 115k I replaced the Purge Solenoid because I was getting a fault code was $26 dollars, and lastly I had to replace the Directional Switch assembly on the steering column was 2 screws, cost $24 on Amazon that was about 128k. Thats all I have replaced in the last 7 years other then normal Maintenance. Runs like the day I bought it no leaks, no issues at all. this truck is solid.
If you add a catch can you shouldn’t have any issues with the throttle body. These Ecoboost have a lot of blow by. Witch can cause your throttle body to gum up.
If I’m not wrong, he bought it from Autozone and honestly they don’t make good electronics. I work there and noticed a lot of people come to swap the parts under warranty sooner than they should. Putting an OEM TB night have done a difference. Regardless, the OEM TB being changed out at 70k is still pretty bad.
Ive heard that I should invest in a catch can for my 019 twin turbo ecoboost. It is the raptor and under warranty for six years bumper to bumper. Does it make sense to add this for me, or did they fix the problem prior to my year model? .ron
@@thatol2.72 the 2017's did as well, but yes you are correct. They also upgraded the timing chain items that led to the early issues as well. That and the 10 speed make them a great vehicle to own.
I own a 2012 and 2019 mustang gt 5.0, and a 2019 Ford raptor supercrew. I absolutely love my raptor. I actually don’t remember the last time I drove my mustangs. But I’m pretty sure the v8 is more reliable than a v6 with two turbos.
I had two of them in history. More TQ than the 302" but less HP. Pulled up a hill with my trailer great, just ran out of power on freeway speeds. Basically indestructible though. They ran for ever with little to no repairs.
I had a 1986 F150 brand new with the 4.9 manual 4 speed with 1st gear granny. 300cu 6 cyl. Greatest motor they made. Way before turbos but Plenty of grunt. Truck rusted out but that ole 300 never gave up.
My brother in law had an old Ford Passenger Van from the early 90s with that inline 6. Motor got to 380 000 miles with no issues. He had to get rid of the van a few years ago because everything around the motor rusted out. Another fantastic Ford engine was the 7.3 NA diesel from the late 80s and early/mid 90s. It was made by Navistar. I had one on an F350 from the 90s. Reliable as heck and always got 14-15 mpg in the city.
Notice how most people with high mileage trucks do their own maintenance. As in - stay away from dealer service departments and quick oil change shops. I've owned at least 6 Ford trucks all with over 200,000 miles and 2 with over 300,000 miles. Rust was the killer. Great video!
I’ve got a 97 F150 with the 5.4, I absolutely love this truck, 250000 miles later and the only major thing I’ve had to do is Ignition Coils and Basic Maintenance, I’ve owned it for 2 years now.
My 15 3.5 ecoboost has been Awsome. Change the oil at 5k, change spark plugs at 30k, and keep the map sensors clean is what I do. She's at 85k and still runs like a champ.
Have a 1993 F150 with a 5.8L 351 Windsor V8 with 226,000 mi on it. Only rated at 200 hp but it is a beefy durable engine that has served me well so far. Had a 300 inline 6 previously, great engine as well.
Just to be clear, this was an unscientific survey of all the techs at on dealership in Alabama. Not necessarily representative of all techs nationwide.

Just did a 260 mile run to the lake and back with my 2019 3.5 eco....it averaged 24.4 mpg. I couldn't be happier!! The jury's still out on longevity though as I only have 8k on the truck. The lake run was a week ago and I've been going back and forth to work since then, mixed driving Hwy and suburban roads, my average has dropped to 23.2 Again, Couldn't be Happier!!
@@bravofoxtrotllc6817 Well......I brought it in for a "cam phaser" reprogram (recall) Still runs great but now averaging 20.1 I have 41K on it now. The 20.1 average includes driving to and from Florida, so I'll take it. Still....I'd rather it was 22.23mpg
The 5.0 is a great engine if you get one that doesn't drink oil. And they sound better with an aftermarket exhaust. For me tho, ecoboost all day long. Got a 2015 Expedition with the 3.5 and a 2019 F150 with the 2.7
@@NL-in6uj The new 2018+ 5.0L's are almost a completely different engine than the 2011-2017 5.0L's. They share little else other than displacement and even then while up to 2017 they were 302ci engines, the 2018+ one's are actually 307ci.
I was very excited to see this video! I just bought a new 2020 F-150 and I was very reluctant to get the 3.5L Ecoboost over the V8, but I did...so I am happy to see that they can be dependable. I'd love to see 240K miles on mine! :-) THX!
MY 2012 F150 Eco got sent down the road at about 75,000 miles and takes the title as the biggest hunk of crap I ever owned, taking the title from the 2008 F150 5.4 Triton that also was a steaming pile of poop for the 105,000 miles I owned it. Not enough time to list all the problems. Done with Ford. Haven't had much luck with any of the big 3 brands really. Driving a Nissan Titan XD presently. At 10,000 miles it has been great so far.
I have a 2011 eco boost, 170,000 miles, timing chain makes it sound like a diesel until the tensioner builds pressure. Had to replace wheel ends because it wouldn’t disengage after using 4x4. Cracked spark plugs due to ignition coils dying. Rusted very much at bottom of doors & wheel wells but I live in the northeast. All that said, truck has 170,000 miles & it still hauls my butt to work with a lot of horsepower.
I have an '04 Lariat 5.4 Triton that lasted for 272,467 miles. No engine issues until about a month ago. Got a 2015 3.5 ecoboost and love it. I'm a Ford man for life!!
Your lucky I only got 160k out of my 5.4L. I got a new upgraded motor from Power Train products. With a melling high Volume oil pump. 26 k now and no issues yet? Got Flowmaster header's and exhaust sounds and runs great! Also rebuilt rear end and a New tranny at 170k
I have a 2012 F150 3.7L with 173,000 miles. It has been a great truck. It has all of the features I need and plenty of power. I use my 3.7L as a work truck most of the time.
I hear the Ford 3.7 is very reliable. I talked to someone with 300k miles an a Mazda cx9 which had the 3.7l v6 from Ford and he drives 90% in the city and still does Uber in it.
I guess 3 years makes quite the difference. My 2016 F-150 FX4 with the 5-0 gets about 16.7 MPG and I drive it *hard*. Also only gets regular oil changes. No work or anything beyond that, though I'm going to chuck the stock filter and get a S&B Oiled filter drop-in kit. And maybe an aggressive ECM tune for a total increase of about 65HP to the wheels. Love the 5-0.
2005 5.7 F150. No to almost every question on the list. I’ve replaced brakes, rotors, front left rotor once because the 4x4 splines were damaged. Getting rusty around rear wheel wells. Replaced those ridiculous individual coils about 3 times now. 214,500 miles. Been a great truck all around. Motor is solid as ever. Pulled a 16’ enclosed utility trailer (flooring installer- 4500 lbs most day) daily for 8 years.
They don't make a 5.7! You must mean a 5.4L . I ve replaced my Rotors front and back Twice and the Brake Calipers in Front. Now I have,183,000. New motor, new Tranny and rebuilt rear end. Hopefully 🤞 I get at least 200k or more out of the engine!
The ford 300 inline six was the most reliable motor ford has ever made. Had one in a 94 f150. Towed my car trailer with it. 300,000 miles and sold it. Never put a clutch in it. It was indestructible. No top end but so reliable.
Even though the EcoBoost was towing regularly, keep in mind, these trucks with this kind of mileage are probably on the interstate for the majority of the miles. Still, its impressive to see trucks with this kind of mileage.
jester yeah, my mercury mountaineer had about 1/4th of its miles on the highway. At 125k, when I sold it, it was a pile of rust. After 18 years of nearly continuous foul weather driving in the northeast, parts of the body just started to rust out. Chassis was actually in pretty good condition. Almost all the work done on that sucker was in the suspension. Roads around me could get pretty rough. Stuff wore out. Only “engine” troubles I had were: Rusted trans line leak Only 2 bad spark plugs Cracked radiator (may have been the result of a frontal crash a year before) Damn good vehicle. Awesome power train.
My current daily driver is a 2003 F150. I have 294,000 miles on it. I just hope it lasts as long as my 1995 F150 that had 383,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the 03.
My 2012 5.0 sitting at 288,000 very hard miles... landscape truck hauling a heavy dump trailer every day.... so far I've replaced ball joints, water pump and 4x4 shift motor.... hauled my 30ft travel trailer across country several times
Just bought a used 2014 f150 xlt 5.0L.4x4 with 224K on it, runs great, hope to get 150k more on it. Cost $11k. Little rust starting over left rear wheel well!
These stats for the truck users are so priceless good job this data when published is gold straight gold. Awesome job been a fan for a long time. Thanks TFL
2017 xlt f150 5.0. I do oil change ever 5000 miles and keep up air filter . It has 70,000 miles on it , the battery when bad at 62000 miles . Nothing other than a battery . I live in Arkansas . I'm very pleased with the 2017 f150. I drive it like it's a sports car , it's held up well . It gets floored a few times a day.
i have a 2011 F-150 with the 5.0L she has 185k miles (has the shorter extended cab an 6 1/2' bed). i haven't owned that long, less than a year but so far it hasn't given me any troubles. it has a bit of rust issues in the wheel wells that the dealer did a good job of hiding but a bad job on the bondo (after having it about three months the paint cracked at the repair in the rear passenger side wheel well.). the back up camera doesn't work but the proximity beeper works fine. its getting ready for a trip to the mechanic (i just can't physically do the work myself much anymore) for a new belt and the steering wheel is making a rubbing noise. the only work i have to do related to the truck itself and not the bullshit of a used vehicle lot (they replaced the rims and tires but didn't put in the tire pressure sensors.) is a one PCV valve was bad and it was burning oil. i tend to get 14.2mpg. the only modifications i have made is i just put in a new air intake system (i have yet to drive much with it so i can't tell you if there is any better performance or gas mileage). oh and i had to replace the fuel door because the plastic pin in the hinge was broken when i got the truck
I owned a 2012 F-159 Ecoboost that started making a tapping sound. Ford told me it was normal and didn’t want to look into it. The engine later failed. A piston skirt broke off and got sent through the engine and turbos. Full engine replacement was needed. This was at 35k miles.
Nice Info. Love my 2014 XLT 5.0 F-150. This is my 3rd Ford XLT F150. I will always have a Ford Truck in my driveway. Love it. My 2nd son will get this current truck when he gets his license next January 2021. My 1st son doesn't know it yet, but he will be selling his Audi A4 very soon and he too will have a F150. Lol. He's had the Audi for 8 months already. 2009, and has learned he is more of a Truck Person because he always wants to use my Truck. Guess who drives the Audi to work. Yep... me. Not a FAN. As a ford tech i can say ecoboost is the real deal they are fun and reliable, i love those engines a lot Of course there some exceptions like the 1.5(block warping) with cooling intrussion 1.6 w head problems , the 1.0 3 banger(timing belt soaked in oil) or 2.7 (complicated to work on )sucks 2.3 on mustangs always head problems coolant in cilinders 3.5 first gen has throttle body issues aswell as the timing guides break tensioners and chain stretching is recomended to replace at least at 100k to replace timing components, turbos going out and coolant fitting on turbos aswell as the exhaust manifold studs breaking.i mean first gens are always full of issues. And overall 3.5 2nd gen even with phasers making noise ,if they start to make noise on warranty fix them and once that issue is fixed you dont have to worry about it anymore on the life of the engine especially with that new design on the vct phasers, also water pumps fail often on 3.5s and 5.0s . And the last one 2.0 with bad design on first gens ford started to install a new block design to prevent headgasket issues these are the best versions of ecoboost . I love the 5.0s too but also has problems with throttle bodies and timing chain issues its all related to maintenance of the customer. Except when ford knows the screw it up they have a exceptional response to fix the issue. Overall i will buy 2nd gen ecoboost 2.0,3.5 and 5.0 but all brands have problems they are not perfect. At least ford fixes the problems.not like other brands.
It looks like these folks do what I do,.vehicle maintenance! I thought I was meticulous on keeping tract of all costs related to the vehicle,...but Phil has me beaten by a country mile, kudos to Phil. Maintenance doesn't cost,...it pays!
Tell him for the v8 ford that the backup camera, I had the same issue on a new truck from day 1. First check the connection. Behind the bumper, under is the easy access connection to the camera. Disconnect it and you can spray the connection with an electronic spray cleaner. Let it dry then reconnect. If it does not work then replacing the camera would work as well. I have a 2020. I tried the clean method at first, it worked for a few days but, i still took it back in and had them replace it anyways because I just bought mines and should not have issues being a brand new 2020.
Hey TFL, first off a huge fan of your channel, I've been watching for years. I have a 2013 f150 XLT with a 3.5 v6 with a little over 150k miles and I bought about a year ago and I gotta say I absolutely love the truck.
2007 F150 bought new July 2007...currently almost 240K miles. Mine has the smaller 4.6l V8. This truck has been the most reliable I have ever owned period. I had my 1st issue at 225K when it blew a spark plug out, just under $100 to have that drilled out and helicoiled, new coil/plug. Also had some front end work done after that, control arms, sway bar links and alignment. I have never changed the trans oil, never changed spark plugs(except the one that blew out) and I often go well over 5000 miles between oil changes. As far as PM is concerned, I have totally neglected this truck and it still gets me from point A to B without fail! My next truck will definitely be an F150!
I have a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 and have only changed the oil and one set of brakes one battery and tires at 89,000 miles. Currently have 127,000 miles. Love love love this, truck.
Unfortunately, I think this is definition of “sample bias”. It’s like trying to find out how long people live by asking for the oldest person in the room. “Hey, this guy is 98 therefore everyone lives to 98”. All the people who died at 68 aren’t around to let their thoughts be known.
Just like with your example maintenance is actually The Secret I've seen Hyundai's and kias with a quarter million miles and nice cars like Toyota's only last 30k.
I have a F150 with the 3.5 with 370,000 miles on it with few issues. The most irritating problem has been the rear door wiring harness keeps breaking. As far as the motor goes I’ve been very satisfied, no major issues with 17 mpg average. It’s a 2011 super cab xlt
I have to say i am loving all these videos and i hope after the Covid thing goes away you still do the viewer videos even if you can meet up in person with some. Also love the questions yall are going to ask owners to answer for their higher mileage trucks.
I’ve loved the 3.5 for towing heavy 11k. It’s a more pleasant experience for heavy use. At the same time, I sure love the low rumble of the V-8. I also love the simplicity when working on a v-8. My experience since 1976 driving a little over 2 million miles, I still can’t tell you which to buy. Just don’t abuse the truck, maintain it meticulously and it will give you 350,000 -400,000 miles.
Like you work on your modern Coyote. give us a damn break. Multicam engine with VVT and variable displacement is not something you work on at home. Give us a break guy
Last year on June I bought a 2014 Ford F-150 XL 4x4 5.0L V8 Super Cab with 200k miles. I've since then put 22k miles and it still runs like new. I've done nothing to it except a couple oil changes, air filters, tires and cleaned the MAF. I step on the gas and let that engine scream every time I drive it, so I don't exactly go easy on it. I'm definitely getting another 2014 f150 v8 but this time it'll be the crew cab. 13th gen f150s have too many computers/wires controlling the engine and transmission for my liking.
I have a 2000 Ford Expedition 5.4 v8 I do all the oil changes and brake pads myself. Only problem I’ve had in the 10 years I’ve owned it was a leaky windshield leaking on the fuse box and put a new alternator in it. Other than that no problems. I’ll be getting a used f150 next year I’m going to get the 5.0.
You guys are absolutely the best!!!! Thank you for doing this. I understand the variables are as diverse as the people of our nation, however the more samples you can get the better. Over time, there will be trends. One other thing that may be good is to ask people how well their interiors are holding up, specifically drivers seat cushion foam / leather/ material.... steering wheel.... knobs etc. For example, I work in construction and get to see a lot of trucks and vans. There is a clear difference in quality of material from manufacturers in my opinion. My 2013 Ford Platinum drivers seat start looking saggy around 25,000 miles. Our 2016 Jeep Grande Cherokee seats still looks brand new at 40,000 miles. Our Chevy Tahoe looked good until 35,000 and has looked pretty much the same for 380,000 miles. The Ram pickup seats, especially the latest generation seems to be holding very well.

Nice video. My fiancée's son has a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 that he bought new. It now has slightly over 200,000 miles. The only issue he has had was recently when the cam phasers started making noise and he had those replaced along with the timing chain and guides. Other than that, it has never had any issues at all. He changes the oil using the OLM which is always close to 10,000 miles using Motorcraft 5W-20. I personally would not own an ecoboost because I don't like the complexity of the turbo's and other stuff. They do have great power but I prefer a v8. My car only has 32,000 miles and her truck only 17,000 miles so no long term reliability yet on those.
I have 2012 ecoboost Lariat with 138k. Only real issue I’ve had is to add an oil separator to keep the valves from getting too dirty. The fog mist cleaning of the intake is a bit pricey. It happened twice, then added the separator. That was the end of that issue. No complaints.

I’ve always been a V8 person
I was talked into the 3.5 V6 twin turbo eco boost and honestly I am loving it more so than the V8
Why's that?

At 115k I replaced the Purge Solenoid because I was getting a fault code was $26 dollars, and lastly I had to replace the Directional Switch assembly on the steering column was 2 screws, cost $24 on Amazon that was about 128k.

@@Jondog65 Awesome, I hope you get many miles out of it.
I have a 2013 f150 with a 3.7L and at 144,000 miles it has been extremely reliable.
I have a 2012 F150 3.7L with 173,000 miles. It has been a great truck. It has all of the features I need and plenty of power. I use my 3.7L as a work truck most of the time.
@@TheWolverine34 That's great. That's been my experience too. It does everything i need it to and gets 20 MPG. I've been very pleased with it.
I hear the Ford 3.7 is very reliable. I talked to someone with 300k miles an a Mazda cx9 which had the 3.7l v6 from Ford and he drives 90% in the city and still does Uber in it.
I have a 2011 with 143,000, it's a great truck and smooth running engine!
Send a video in to them. I'd like to see one
I just bought a 2014 with a V8, kind of high miles but drives perfect. I hope it treats me well.
On the same boat as you currently. Has it done well? Do you think 170k is too high to buy? Thanks !
Only “engine” troubles I had were:
Rusted trans line leak
Only 2 bad spark plugs
Cracked radiator (may have been the result of a frontal crash a year before)
Damn good vehicle. Awesome power train.
Yeah but over 100k towing is very very impressive Highway or not
My current daily driver is a 2003 F150. I have 294,000 miles on it. I just hope it lasts as long as my 1995 F150 that had 383,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the 03.
Check this out. I just saw that very same 95 F150 that had 383,000 miles on it when I sold it back in 03 still on the road. I was shocked.
The anti rust port and plug for the quater panel is genius. Should be a mandatory maintenance part on all vehicles
I'm in Montréal, Canada and they do the same thing the vehicles here as well when you go for a rust treatment.
I have the 2018 5.0 V8, bought used last year, so far no issues hope to keep another 10 years
No oil consumption issues?

Yep... me. Not a FAN.

5.0 all the way ... why? Cheaper to fix for sure
Robert Maki 302 is the way to go
As a ford tech i can say ecoboost is the real deal they are fun and reliable, i love those engines a lot
Of course there some exceptions like the 1.5(block warping) with cooling intrussion 1.6 w head problems , the 1.0 3 banger(timing belt soaked in oil) or 2.7 (complicated to work on )sucks
2.3 on mustangs always head problems coolant in cilinders
3.5 first gen has throttle body issues aswell as the timing guides break tensioners and chain stretching is recomended to replace at least at 100k to replace timing components, turbos going out and coolant fitting on turbos aswell as the exhaust manifold studs breaking.i mean first gens are always full of issues.
Overall i will buy 2nd gen ecoboost 2.0,3.5 and 5.0
but all brands have problems they are not perfect.
At least ford fixes the problems.not like other brands.
My 5.0 has almost 200,000 on it and still runs strong. Regular maintenance is the key.
Have you changed transmission fluid?
It looks like these folks do what I do,.vehicle maintenance!
I thought I was meticulous on keeping tract of all costs related to the vehicle,...but Phil has me beaten by a country mile, kudos to Phil.

My dad had the 4.6 from 2009 and it lasted more than 230k miles we used to haul things it was a great engine
One of Fords best ever engines.
I will try to do a video on my 14 F-150 coyote. Great idea guys!
im looking forward to your video
I also have a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 coyote. Near 90k and no issues.
5.0 ALL DAY every day. An engine made right.
Unfortunately, I think this is definition of “sample bias”. It’s like trying to find out how long people live by asking for the oldest person in the room. “Hey, this guy is 98 therefore everyone lives to 98”. All the people who died at 68 aren’t around to let their thoughts be known.
We talk about that later in the video
turbotj99 if you want a video that gets into more parts replaced with less miles look at a few dodge videos lol

I have a F150 with the 3.5 with 370,000 miles on it with few issues. The most irritating problem has been the rear door wiring harness keeps breaking. As far as the motor goes I’ve been very satisfied, no major issues with 17 mpg average. It’s a 2011 super cab xlt
I have the same issue with the rear door on my 11' 3.5. I usually just wiggle it around and it goes away for a few months lol
179k and counting on my 2018 3.5 l ecoboost zero issues. Been fabulous.
What the mpg?
SIX engine choices for F150 just raises Fords costs......crazy!
3.3-Liter Ti-VCT V-6: 290 hp, 265 lb-ft
2.7-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 325 hp, 400 lb-ft
3.5-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 375 hp, 470 lb-ft
High-Output 3.5-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 450 hp, 510 lb-ft
3.0-Liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V-6: 250 hp, 440 lb-ft
5.0-Liter Ti-VCT V-8: 395 hp, 400 lb-ft
But it also enables the f150 to sell in crazy high volumes because all those options allows it to appeal to a wider consumer base.
options, people want options

I have to say i am loving all these videos and i hope after the Covid thing goes away you still do the viewer videos even if you can meet up in person with some. Also love the questions yall are going to ask owners to answer for their higher mileage trucks.
Still waiting on the Covid part. 😒

The 5.0 guy was like "yeah, I love my 5.0, it's been unbelievably reliable...so I bought a new truck...with an Ecoboost."????
he will regret the ecoboost after one year of use. not because reliability, but the turbos lag.

I have a 2012 f150 ext cab 4wd 3.5 eco with 79k miles. Bought it used from the dealer about a year ago. It had 69k. Fuel mileage runs right about 17mpg whether city or interstate. Towing about 13mpg with a loaded 16ft utility trailer. I am still in limbo concerning drilling the drain hole in the intercooler. I have used and worked the 4wd. Yesterday pulling stumps. I was very impressed. The only issue is an occasional sloppy shift into 2nd banging the driveline fairly hard. I will probably be keeping this truck for a long time. A rarity for me. Lol
I just bought a 14 King ranch. I knew very little about them when i bought it yesterday. So glad y'all are doing these videos! The reviews on this truck appear to be great! At least as far as motor goes. And i took the truck to my mechanic this morning just to give it a once over. He told me it was a "bad dude" and that i got a good buy on the truck. So happy because i kind of went into buying it blind. Which is not normal for me

We have two other 5.0 Ford engines in the family, my 2014 Mustang GT and my fiancée's 2017 F150 with the 5.0.
