Was in New Orleans two weeks ago and my stay was a wonderful week worth. The food is memorable the Court of Two Sisters, Dooky Chase, Lil Dizzy’s, The Gumbo Shop, Willie Mae’s all the best. Watch out for people asking you if they can guess what city you’re from or compliment your tennis shoes. Definitely explore the Garden District if you’re a Anne Rice or American Horror Story fan. Another tip, Cafe Du Monde is cash only.
Thanks for the amazing suggestions! I stayed in June and went to finegans easy and was surprised of how underrated it was. You are Eric nailed it! Keep up the amazing work!
Harriet and I have been many times during Mardi Gras and off season. Great tips Liz. Love the collaboration with Eric B. a very knowledgable guy. Hoped you enjoyed your time there . Sending you lots of love.😍😍 Jim and Harriet .
Great video Folks :). That was fun watching you and Eric. The bloopers were great :). It is fun walking around New Orleans. BTW, a great shot off the sax player and singer :).
Haha wish I could take credit for that, but it was b-roll that I grabbed from one of my subscriptions! Glad you liked the bloopers, they were so funny as I was editing!
Hello I will be in NO very soon and I would love to try out the restaurant Derek got his breakfast plate with fried chicken, biscuits & gravy from. It looks very delicious and I can’t wait to get my hands on some of the food! Thanks in advance❤️
Thank you for a very interesting vlog.i really enjoyed it. Im going to new orleans for the first time this year.from England 🇬🇧. Thank you for the tips
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for leaving a comment! Eric and I made a Must-Knows of Louisiana video, too - if you haven’t seen it yet, feel free to check it out on my channel! 😀
I went to school in BR with Eric! You can also buy alcohol in Texas to go as well. I’ve bought plenty daiquiris in Texas in the drive thru (i.e. Eskimo Hut, Taco Cabana, etc.)
Heading to New Orleans next week by default! I’m not sure of the post hurricane conditions in Tampa, and Dallas always seems expensive. I always stay at the Intercontinental in the Business District. Extremely peaceful. This is a relaxation trip. So I’m glad that you included parks, museums, and Frenchman Street (which I’ve never been before). Side note: Watch the 💩 on the ground. Sometimes it’s not always from the horses 🤦🏾♂️🤬
I am planning to visit New Orleans from 30th of October to 10th of November. Do you think thats a good period to travel in terms of hurricane season? Thank you very much!
I think there is still a minor risk because hurricane season in the US lasts until November 30th, but luckily you'll know several days in advance with our weather forecasting if there's a risk while you're scheduled to be there. Hopefully you'll have clear skies!
Nashville is a great place to visit, too! Sounds like you have some great live music options coming up. I've been to Nashville before I started my UA-cam channel, but I hope to go back at some point to be able to film some tips for visitors! Have a great trip!!!
I’m visiting later this month for my bday. I keep hearing it’s sposed to be super hot and nobody wants to go. Should i cancel my trip ? Or should i just get over how hot it is and enjoy myself
Probably depends on if you're used to hot temperatures already, based on where you're from. If you go, just aim to find places with AC and stay hydrated with electrolytes! Thanks for watching! 😀
I manage a bar on Bourbon Street. It's incorrect that 21-year-old people and under can drink in a restaurant with their parents. It's the law. It's been the law since 1984. The only way they could drink is if they are in a private area (house or hotel room with their parents). Any public drinking would need to be done illegally. The easiest way is to drink outside. Bourbon Street is the most popular outside place. Parents could purchase drinks and then bring them out to their underage children. The street is not monitored as much as businesses. One thing to consider is that 95% of places do not have public restrooms. You have to purchase something to use the restroom.
Yes the respondent is correct , however , within the circle of those who are known and in certain dining establishments , especially in Baton Rouge , minors in presence of their parents having drinks was a thing all the way into the late 90’s . So this information you received was likely given to you by a longtime native recounting what use to be very common not that long ago .
The more practical application is that if your spouse is under 21 they can drink which makes traveling there more equitable. My experience is that since it is up to the venue's discretion, it is rarely allowed in the Quarter. There's just too much liability so in practice, I wouldn't count on being served if you're under 21. The old tradition was that if you were tall enough to reach the bar you could order. This comes from pre-Katrina days when your folks would send you to the corner bar for their drinks. Speaking of, definitely try all the bars around town in neighborhoods. You might just run into someone famous, just be cool like the locals.
The rules change a lot so make sure to look up the latest on Nola’s official government websites! The site I used when I went was: ready.nola.gov/incident/coronavirus/safe-reopening/
I love NOLA. Definitely do not wear sandals, boots, or heels, or formal shoes, unless you're driving. If you're going to walk all over, which is the best way to enjoy New Orleans, just wear sneakers or your most comfortable tennis shoes, and wear socks, or your feel will sweat horribly.
My tips would be to first make sure to get an accessible room, which you can usually filter by on the larger hotel search engines. Then, before booking, I’d use google maps street view to check how the sidewalks look outside the hotel. Assuming you’d be using Ubers (since the sidewalks in parts of town are not smooth), I’d check what the rates are for where you want to go, too! If you’re driving, definitely have a good understanding on the hotel’s parking options in advance since many hotels don’t have dedicated or affordable lots. Good luck!
Of all the travel tips videos I have seen none have discussed the importance of footwear . This is very likely top 3 overlooked points that are likely to not only ruin a visitors time in New Orleans yet even cause a life long regret of their N.O. Trip . This rings especially true during New Years celebrations around midnight in Jackson Square . On many a New Years within this J.S. Area , converging mass waves of pedestrians throttled into bottlenecks that are exacerbated by crowd control barriers. Once one of these mass crowd events has begun it will not subside for some time . Ladies I know that beauty is pain and I have nothing but respect of you are trying to set off smoke alarms , however , do select foot wear that is both chic but supportive and well captured on your foot . Same for cats wanting to portray that big easy style thru sandals or sliders , do not do this . I will spare y’all my personal experiences listen to the kind lady presenting this video , she is bullseye correct , if your feet get damaged or you lose your footwear , the night is done . The best case scenario , “the Street Smoothie” all between your toes , ugh , gotta geaux , I’m about to hurl .
I am from New Orleans. DON'T stay anywhere downtown. The crime is horrendous. Yes, the food is GREAT. The WW2 Museum is absolutely a must. But it is sad that my city is just a SHELL OF WHAT IT ONCE WAS. It is really hard to feel safe anywhere in the city.
It felt similar to me as other big cities in in terms of needing to keep your wits about you, especially after dark. I wouldn't stay right on Bourbon street personally, but I think there are some nice hotels in the downtown area once you get a few blocks away.
That's weird to me. I've never had a single negative experience anywhere down there. Of course, I'm NOT saying you're wrong, as anything could happen anytime.
There are more locals loitering on Bourbon St smoking weed and openly selling it than tourists drinking. I've owned a place off Bourbon St for 17 years and it just went up for sale after my last visit two weeks ago. It's truly tragic what they've allowed to happen to the French Quarter over the last 5-7 years. Police have completely disappeared and let the criminals take control. Bars with live rock bands just blast Cardi B for the locals who don't spend money there and party in the street for free. The food is terrible. If you are expecting Jambalaya, Etouffee, Gumbo, etc then skip New Orleans. It's basically disgusting pizza by the slice or fried chicken joints. As a Chicagoan I expect truly good food and that hasn't been accessible in New Orleans for a long time. If you accidentally go there then check out Jackson Square and Royal St during the daytime, otherwise there is nothing of value in the French Quarter. Fun Fact: you can drink in public but you can also be arrested for public intoxication. The only good part about the police disappearing is that they rob you less. The first time I ever went to New Orleans for a Bears game with a group of friends I was arrested for public intoxication and robbed for $1300 cash by the police. Recreational marijuana use and sale is illegal in Louisiana. However, the police were enforcing the law and the courts were just letting the criminals go free. The police are rebelling against the courts by not enforcing any laws now. I'm not some anti-marijuana activist, but this has resulted in chaos. It was common to have two officers on horses on each block on Bourbon St. now you are lucky to find one pair and they will be as far from Canal St. as possible. It used to be frat-boys and sorority girls getting drunk dancing and listening to rock bands and now it is a hip-hop blunt fest of gross people twerking. Go to Nashville. Trust me.

In the late 90s, I was stationed at Fort Hood,Texas. There were drive thru daiquiri businesses.
Oh interesting, I wonder if the laws changed after that, or if they're still there!
Excellent presentation !
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I know I'm a few months late. But y'all need to come down for French Quarter Fest. Mid April every year. Great vlog!
I’d love to!
@@MeansToTravel Would love to entertain your visit at the fest.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed! 😀
Love the hat……….go Rays!!!!!!!
Yes, Eric is a huge sports fan overall!
Heading to NOLA! Thank you. I am not going to wear sandals as to avoid glass, potholes, and uncomfortable shoes. Thanks!
Good choice, you won't regret it! Have so much fun!!! 😀🙌
New Orleans is up there on our travel list, so thanks for the tips 🍻
Absolutely! It's a wonderful city to visit, I'm sure you'll love it once you go! Thanks so much for watching! :)

Thanks for the hotel tip! I hope you have fun, and also some great weather!
At Cafe DuMonde. There is a waiting list to get on as a server. In fact, people bid to get hired there. Being a server there is a big deal.
Wow I had no idea about that! So interesting!!
We have a drive through daiquiri shop in El Paso and I love them!
Oh nice! I’ve only been to El Paso very briefly but hope to go back someday 😀
I have a nice glass re-usable mason jar cup that I like to put my drinks in. Will I get in trouble for using that?
I’d definitely avoid bringing glass

In addition, Pat O'Brien's is the only place I know of who allows "anyone" to use their bathrooms, which is up a narrow stairway.
I had no idea 18-year-olds could drink as long as they’re with a parent/guardian or a spouse over the age of 21. That’s so interesting to know!
Yeah I was so surprised to find that out, too! I wonder if it will ever get revoked.

Haha! I truly have no idea which state you're talking about, but if I had to make a guess, it would be Wisconsin. Is that right?
Texas has drive thru daiquiri shops since katrina

Fats Domino is from NO .
Yep lots of great musicians came out of NoLa for sure!
Somehow I feel as though he is not too fond of tourists
Interesting! He has a lovely travel UA-cam channel!
