For all of you not here…yes I am from NOLA…her accent is just one of the accents. That humor and accent spilling in - is her charm.
She has an accent very much like a Californian. When I moved from Cali to NO, it was very apparent I was not from LA. I was even accused of being snotty because I speck proper English.

This was a great tour you guys!! I really enjoyed the history, tradition and back stories of how a lot of the New Orleans cuisine started and evolved over the years. Kayla was not only very knowledgeable but extremely enthusiastic which just enhanced an already great video. It’s easy to see that both of you take a lot of pride in where you come from and the rich history that New Orleans has. When I’m back in NOLA I’ll definitely look you guys up!!

My wife and I are visiting in December. Will there be a lot closed during the winter months?
I live in a Texas small town, therefore we do not have any consistent restaurants. The pandemic has made things.worse. I use to go to to NewOrleans before COVID. At 77 years old, I feel like I need someone to go with me and I have no one. These UA-cam videos have encouraged me. I hope to make it back to NOLA someday, if I can get a travel partner.

@danielpuckett...there's plenty of us around, just difficult to meet up. I'm just starting to venture out since the pandemic. I just made a reservation at a hostel on Canal St in October. I want to see the Halloween parade on October 19 by Krewe Boo. This is my first stay at a hostel, so hopefully I won't seem so alone. I'm 70, but healthy. I'm looking forward to my second visit to NOLA. I first visited in 1990. Best food I ever ate! Good luck friend...
I really appreciate how seriously they take the cuisine and its origins: almost like a graduate lecture in both history and food. Both commentators are excellent and I would certainly enjoy hearing their stories in person. By the way, it is not surprising that Vietnamese cuisine fits so well into the current New Orleans food scene since it has direct links to French cooking.

Folks at a Vietnamese restaurant were telling me that Cafe La Monde coffee is the closest thing to Vietnamese coffee they can get in the US.
A very large Vietnamese community formed in New Orleans East after the Vietnam war ended.
I'm Canadian. every since i was a teenager i wanted to see New Orleans. i've been there 3 times now and will be back in october. My husband and i are in love with New Orleans and probably will not travel anywhere else. there' s so many things to love about NOLA especially the food !! you are making me long for it

Check out Casa Pelican, run by Chef Karen, a wonderful Canadian e-pat. She used to have a restaurant, now she has cooking classes and a B&B. Best meal I've ever had in the area (including Brigtsen's). She's in Algiers, across the river. There's a $2 passenger ferry, so no trying to drive a car in NOLA.
I want Kayla to be my best friend, she seems so fun! I feel more ready for my first time in New Orleans now :) 🍽

I lived as a child in the French Quarter and revisited with my sister and brother in law who live in Ponchatoula a few years back, he is a born and raised native and retired marine gunny. Your video tours are just wonderful and I would recommend them for anyone who does not have relatives to give you this level of insight into the food and wonders that are the multi cultural locations that is New Orleans. I cannot think of any higher praise than I would love to take the tour even tho I have already done it with family many, many times. Chris

This was tremendous fun to watch on an atypically rainy May afternoon in Colorado. Time spent with you two was time well spent. My favorite part? The cameraman who would not be denied a taste of that praline. 👍
I just got back from New Orleans 2 days ago , my sons took me on a bucket list trip. We did and saw so much. Great food of course but we spent most mornings at Cafe Dumond and Cafe Beignet.

n 1941, we lived in the Pontalba, and bouught our groceries in the market, on Decatur Our favorite restaurant was Tujaque's---and their shrimp remoulade, and the boiled beef with horseradish sauce! My other favorite was Galatoire;s.
The women in front of St. Louis Cathedeal sold pralines.On Royal Street was a wonderful grocery store called Solari's. Shopping was amazing----50 pound open barrels with olives floating, to be dipped by a clerk,or incredible smells of coffee and spices and baked rolls.
Here in Florida's grocery stores we can get Zatarain's, but also a tremendous variety of Latino products.Sante!

Great tour, makes me hungry. I love the gumbo 'controversy'.
I put tomatoes and okra in mine, so I call it Cajun stew. In Lake Charles, gumbo is the trinity, roux broth and meat, with rice or potato salad.

Even though Chicago is my home, New Orleans has been my second city for my entire life. I am addicted to the food and the culture but like you I can pass on Bourbon Street. Great job on the introduction to the food culture of Nola. One thing I like to tell friends Who I turn onto café Dumond in the beignets is to not bother taking the kit home. It’s not possible to make that in a typical kitchen with any success. Trust me, we’ve tried! Lol. Thank you so much.

OMG. When he mentioned MRB, I flashed on what a great time I used to have working as a traveling RN. Worked the night shift at a famous Hospital. In the mornings, the traffic over the GNO bridge was so intense we just went to the bar and drank the best, BEST. Bloody Marys EVER. Sometimes,a couple of drag queens were still performing. After driving over the bridge to Algiers, I could sleep like a baby. The drinks had a pickled green bean plus the other stuff. Wonderful time!!

With our time there, we loved the restaurants in the magazine district and there was this other side of town where there's like this farmers market type stall with a bunch of awesome eateries.

Having lived in New Orleans (and having family still there), I found this to be a good complement to what I already knew. I just couldn’t stop salivating with envy when they dove into the oysters and muffuletta 😢😮😊… thanks for sharing - totally enjoyed it! Thanks for all of these videos. Helped us out a bunch getting familiar with the city. We just spent 5 days in NOLA (I've been there 4 times). Highly recommend Meril (Emeril's daughter's place in warehouse district). The Barbecued Shrimp appetizer is amazing. Surrey's for breakfast. The Banana's Foster french toast is yummy! Also love The Camilia Grill for a great sit at the rail diner experience. Stayed at Cambria...very nice. Have also stayed at Q&C Hotel. Cool place. Find yourself an awesome muffuletta sandwich somewhere. Sooo much to do, see, eat and drink!!

I grew up near New Orleans but have been away for many years. Growing up, I enjoyed eating almost all of the food you two highlighted in this video tour (if not the restaurants you visited). One thing not mentioned but I miss greatly about New Orleans is red beans and rice: an humble but very tasty dish. I also miss the crab, shrimp and crawfish boils from my childhood. Incredible food can be found all over south Louisiana but it's all readily available in the New Orleans area. Wonderful video - brings back a lot of memories!

I am of Norse decent but I absolutly love the Lousianna food more than any other ... It is so fantastic and flavorful ! More than food it is a history of all the clusters of peoples !

When I lived in New Orleans, the only local fare I didn't totally love was oysters -- couldn't stand the durn things, but otherwise the place is pure culinary heaven.

My favorite was Quatermasters. I would go there almost everyday for lunch. So good! And the fried pie!!
I loved going to Cafe do mond and then sit down by the river with my dog. He loved playing in the fountain out front, I had a hard time keeping him out.
