Very over the top (which is great). However, rarely do I ever depress a switch in my house (maybe a few times a year). It is much smaller than his, but all my rooms are all voice controlled or have automation based on timers or sensors through Alexa. Simplicity is best for me. Always automate what you can. It is not laziness, but it is being smart. It is good to see what others have done.
They sell Minecraft torch lights that would look so cool in his son’s room; when my son was younger and super into Minecraft, we built wall mounts to put them on both sides of his door.
If you could pass this along, please do!
@SmartHomeSolver: Which Home Assistant to buy at this point in time? Home Assistant Yellow Standard or Home Assistant Green? why or why not Sky Connect ? why do we need expandable storage? I have Ring door bell /Ring contact sensors / Nest thermostats/ Smart switches that work with Apple Home/ Google Home and Alexa. Coding is not an issue.
@@velvetjones8634oohh, I’ll have to check those out. Thanks!
@@yesdharam Yellow vs Green depends on what you want to do. If you want simple quick and easy to setup and use: Green. If you want to better control the install and the hardware (like amount of memory and hard disk space), yellow is better. Expandable storage is good to retain more historical information and use something like Grafana to present metrics. It is also required for local storage of medias and for storing (more) backups. That could then be of value to have more space...
The dog really completes the home! The Voice Dimmer is too cool! I never know I needed that. Great Video!
Now THIS is a cool smart home! Jimmy's got some really creative ideas for me to steal.
Love this video! Really enjoying the viewer smart home tours
Great video Reed and nice house and automations that seem functional for you and your family Jimmy. Although I didn’t find any automation ideas I’d find personal useful for me but it just proofs that there is no perfect smart home. A smart home is something that should be tailored around YOUR need not just bunch of tech devices smashed together and you Jimmy did a good job automating your home.
Its been some time since I watched an automation house tour. This is amazing and I definitely will be copying some of these 🤓
Yes! Thanks for the Humidity-Sensor-Coffee Idea 👍
this guy's house and automations are awesome. seems like he's got it all set up perfectly. I am jealous!
Jimmy is the man! I'm so glad you two did this video!
This is the best smart home video that I've seen so far. You have presented about five ideas that I haden't thought about, quite how you've done it. I loved the coffee done notification.
I've been itching to see Jimmy's house ever since I first found out about his videos! Awesome to see!
the toothbrush automation is brilliant! well done!
That is an insanely cool house!
Thanks for stopping by Reed! See you at CES!
Some really cool ideas in Jimmys smart home that i wouldnt have ever thought of.
I certainly acknowledge that his dog is cute, whar breed is it? The vibratoon sensor on a rope is genious!
Im loving these smart home tours, extremely interesting how others conceive smart ideas and implement them.
I' m looking forward to the next instalment.
He’s a golden doodle 🙂
Cool! Thanks for sharing Reed/Jimmy.
Nice setup! I’ll add this video to the smart home tour playlist
Glad to see I've got basically all those automaions and more already covered. Maybe I should be doing a house tour 🤣
Fill out the form and let’s do it!
Wow what an amazing house! Love these tours!
I count nine different kinds of light switches. That would drive me nuts.
And rather than putting a sensor above the coffee maker, probably should move the coffee machine to not be under the wine.
Solution looking for a problem
@@guidoabarcia9311 I take it you don't drink wine at all? Daily heating doesn't do good to those bottles if they sit there any longer than a week. Then again, an open rack in the corner of the kitchen says the contents better be some low quality crap anyway. But even those don't like the daily steam treatment. :/
RGB led strips is indeed a fun idea. though I prefer single color/CCT
Only thing I am missing is a overview of his dashboard.
Like with temperature sensors, I have a large amount of them even though I only have 8 rooms [including the hallway]
and have around 2-3 sensors in each room, just so I have multiple datapoints, which is especially usefull if you use something like a Infared heating panel. and need multiple overrides over the default hvac controller/entities.
not forgetting having Failsafe on top of Failsafe on top of Failsafe.
Totally agree with you. When I was younger I used to fancy all that colour changing stuff. Now in my new house I completely skipped RGB and just go with just Color temperature instead.
One thing I read recently is that with passive sensors such as thermometers, you get to a point where you have to much data to display. The fix is to show the data that is unusual or needs attention instead of all the data.
I have a similar automation on my smart blinds but without the light sensor. The whole house has Hunter Douglas motorized blinds. In the great room at sunset, we get blasted at the dining room table. For a few months we manually closed the blinds but I was able to check what time those commands came in through Home Assistant. Using the NOAA page I was able to figure out that the sun was at 20 degrees elevation when it was offensive so using the Sun Add On, I then set up the blinds to close at 25 degrees and reopen at 5 degrees when the sun is behind the house behind us.
That first winter, the shades started closing at about 4pm and there was no sun. Turns out it starts setting at an angle that doesn't disrupt. Again, using the NOAA site, I was able to set conditions that only close the shades if the azimuth is within a certain range.
Next, I need a better understanding of weather conditions states to only have it closing when it's sunny out.
That’s impressive! Sounds easier to to use a light sensor 😅
Would love to hear a little bit more details of how he implemented the Oral B IQ in the Smarthome. This is pure genius and the perfect indicator for letting the house start or end the day. Would love to do the same.
Home Assistant has a native integration. The first time I used it my Home Assistant Bluetooth radio found it.
@@AutomatedHouse I use openhab for all my routines and logics... looks like a need home assistant too.
that coffee maker steam thing was a cool idea
Great video thank you. Burglars need not worry about the flashing blue and red lights, they need to worry about that hound, it's a savage killer!
You guys sound exactly the same, too funny. Thanks for the great ideas
I was just saying the same thing about the echo flex! Still love mine as well.
This is like a tech CRIBS 😂
New video series, Tech Cribs. 🫶🏼
I'm down!
Not sure if you have this planned already but you should put out a Black Friday video of good deals to check out! I'm planning on loading up on a bunch of smart home stuff but its been a lot of work researching what to get and what not to get
"....and this is my MyQ garage door opener"
Me: "Oh no..."
Right 😂 ratgdo got installed 2 days ago 😁
Lots of good tips here. 13:05 a rubber garage opener is much quieter and cheap if you fit it yourself.
Rubber garage door opener? Belt driven?
11:15 I’ve got this in my room. It’s really cool and looks like a literal normal light when the fans off!
Thanks! I have to add, Jimmy.
Great video. Wish my home was like that maybe someday. I need to put some lights under cabinets in the kitchen. I have two sets of cabinets and there are across from each other in the kitchen so it looks like I’d have to have two separate systems. Any suggestions would really help. Thank you very much. I appreciate your time.
I would really love a tutorial about that washer dryer automation. That is one thing I've never been able to figure out in my house. And I can't find much information on setup with alexa
I have the stuff to do the washer and dryer but can't get it setup at all
I bought the stuff to do the washer/dryer too. How do I set it up with SmartThings/Alexa???
Two of the greatest!
Very nice house, beautiful house. I just basically made everything Lutron Caseta in mine and made it easy. Too funny, my buddy has the same fandelier in his house.
This is really interesting. I'd be really interested to see a rundown sometime of the energy cost of the smart home setup e.g. if you have motion sensors on lights that turn off if noone's in the room, how much money do you save with the smart home not running the lights vs the cost of running the smart sensor??
This was great until he mentioned he keeps the dog locked up in a cage when they are not home 😞
Amazing 👏
Can you share a link to the washer set up. Our laundry is in the garage this would be so so helpful
Hey Reed, Thanks for the videos... Great job!
I have a question about Wi-Fi... How many devices do you have on Wi-Fi and have you noticed any issues with your network as you've increased the amount of devices?
I use TP Link mesh networking, previously M5 (still have 1 unit in backyard in my swim spa, which runs backyard Nest Cameras), upgraded to X60, then swapped that for XE75 (4 units) with the 1 M5.
Have just over 100 WiFi (10+ are Ethernet) devices (M5 rated for 100, XE75 rated for up to 200) along with 30+ sensors or devices connected via other connections. Normal running in Deco App I currently have approx 80 devices online... Have some Google speakers on smart switches to turn them off and on if no one is using them to limit traffic, other stuff isn't connected (TV's etc) when not turned on.
Issue according to Tp Link is the amount of packets and 2.4Ghz congestion... I have 9 Google Home speakers (2 are Nest Hub Max, camera off when people home) and 7 Nest Cameras which are using the most Data when the Xbox isn't being used! Do to the speakers always being connected; during a remote session with their senior tech support guys in Taiwan they got me to unplug the speakers, Chromecast, and Google TV's... Which then obviously reduced the traffic on the network but stabilized it so everything else ran better.
They also gave me some firmware so my 4 XE75 nodes run on 2 or 3 different channels on the 2.4Ghz band (channel 1 - 6 - 11 is what they run off of) this seemed to fix the issue but occasionally the network still crashes and a total reboot is required, especially if I have everything running.
I usually notice that there is an issue when I get a notification that a camera has been offline for 10 minutes or I see a Wi-Fi switch has a red light.
Have you experienced anything like this?
TP Link has been great to work with btw... I've had multiple remote sessions with them and some firmware updates pushed out were from troubleshooting my network. I tend to push their products to the limit!
Seems like the upkeep for all those systems would take more time and energy than the time saved.
He's got Reed's inflection down purrrfect
Amazing home
I thought the smart thermometer above the coffee maker would be for indication of high temp near wine, not to alert about fresh coffee 🤣🤣 Not sure if there is any quality/expensive/nice wine, but if there is, its probably a good idea to move the coffee machine away from those bottles
Wow, having been in the smart Home realm for nearly a decade, many don't appreciate the YEARS of updates and setup required to create this smart house, I very much do. While I love the automation, the marathon of updates and broken recipes are a life sucker. My question is, does the "Home Assistant" solve those issues? Second question is, I put my stock in Wemo.. and it has been a roller Coaster of a ride of coin tossing reliability. Will Thread solve it? Or do you recommend a different Thread/Matter provider to jump ship too?
OMG…OMG…OMG… Ssooo jealous. Seriously so awesome.
this actually cool
I’ve been confused for awhile on the Lutron switches? They can’t set scenes can they? They can’t change the color of bulbs can they? Amazing house.
Hello Reed! What would you suggest for a bathroom? A motion sensor, or a presence sensor? Which one would you suggest of either of those? I have a Samsung SmartThings Desktop Hub. I just switched over to it from Hubitat C7.
Good afternoon
which motion sensor is shown on the TV, I cannot find it in the Amazon list.
would like to know this
You had me at the Toothbrush.
Nice video!
Interesting. Dunno about the Jasco Z-wave dimmers though. They have proven unreliable for me. Also not sure about so much battery operated Z-wave. Would be a continuous battery patrol to keep it running.
You should meet "Cables & Coffee" here in Sweden! His smart home is crazy & he have a UA-cam channel too. 😀
Cool home, i really like the Eve flare. I dont have any Apple products is there a way to control it with Android or home assistant?
Unfortunately not yet. They have announced a date for the Matter update yet.
I have mostly Lutron Caseta smart switches in my house except Lutron does not have a door sensor. This seems like a real gap in their product. I have several closets and pantry’s that when the door is open I want the lights on and off when the door closes. Currently I’m using Zigbee switches with Thirdreality door sensors with an Alexa routine. The Zigbee devices are using the Amazon Alexa built in Zigbee hub. Any recommendations, I really want all Lutron switches and don’t want to rely on the Alexa hub.
If anyone knows a way to have a means of determining if the plow goes by in the winter. If want to be a waken up earlier if that happens over night
Jimmy, Go Jackets!
What’s the good word?
@@AutomatedHouse THWG!
And now I want to see how the Garage works after the change of the "Integrations"
GO JACKETS! THWG!
Jimmy, I see the Smoke Wagons and Four Roses SiBs... A man of good taste.
That’s only the tip of the iceberg 😅

So cool
Even the dog is smart 🤩
9:28 How do you "automatically" shut off your water main? Is there a remote valve that he has installed he's referring to?
What type of smart switch is that for the laundry machine. I would like to get the same one.
Zooz ZEN15. It’s on the first Amazon link in the description 🙂
What vibration sensor is that on the dog bell? It’s a great idea.
Zooz ZSE43
I like the fandelier
Nice setup. I think the dog training bell sensor is a solution to a self created limitation though. My dog finds me and asks to go out, that's far simpler and far more reliable, no bells or sensors required, just Sam asking.
Jimmy, do you experience any lag when syncing two zooz light switches? I didn't use to have any problem with my GE enbrighten z-wave switches when I was on smartthings but since switches to HA, I've notice a pretty serious lag.
On/off is pretty instant. Dimming can be a little spotty sometimes depending on zwave network traffic.
@@AutomatedHouse I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I'll buy a couple of zooz switches and see if it works better for some reason. Thanks for your reply
Mine is flawless but I don't know how to do that mirroring association thing
I'm wondering what you guys are doing for a living, your houses seem to be very big and luxurious
Given Lewis's recent MyQ video, what is Jimmy planning to replace his garage door opener with?
He is using RATGDO twitter.com/automated_hous/status/1722744319138730031 that's what I'm going to install too.
what was the smart plug on the washer? I’d love to have that for my tv receiver if it can handle the power
Various ones from the majors. I've used WYZE 15A for years without a fail. $8 or so each...I have about 18 I think.
The iPhone wont allow to connect to 2.4ghz I cant connect any smart devices Can u make a video about that turning router to only accept 2.4ghz doesn’t work we need help
What was the plug you used for the washing machine? Know of any other smart microwaves?
Zooz Zen15. It’s in the first Amazon link in the description.
I’m just curious what the iPod nano is being used for 😂
My wife found it digging through some bins and it’s been sitting there ever since 😂 We’re waiting until we randomly uncover a 30 pin cable to charge it up.
oh my god i need this faucet.
how tall are you? or r u stepping up on something?
7:45 HOLD UP, I have zooz dimmers, how do you set up the mirroring association thing? 😮
It’s setup in your zwave hub, which varies depending on the platform you use. In Home Assistant, using zwave JS UI, it’s under the Groups option for the device.
Biggest game changer for me is the fact that you can have your Echo Flex clock upside down.
What shades are in your bathroom? Can you give an exact product name?
I thought his realization was going to be 'this steam is messing up my wine' 😂
Is that some smart bourbon I noticed in the background?
Indeed! 🥃
Why not mmwave presence sensors?
If the govee strips on the shelves are one strip how did connect them on the 3 shelves since the shelves isn’t one straight shelf, it’s 3 different shelves yet you run one strip on all 3? How
I ran a 4 strand wire between them
Amazing home tour. It's amazing what you can do when you have the funds to do it.
I thought the Switchbot 2 hub had an IR blaster built in, so there would be no need for the Broadlink RM Pro
Broadlink can send RF what this fan needs.
@@d.j.vandermeer3832ah your right he did say RF, my bad.
Great question! Unfortunately the fandelier is 400 mhz RF, not IR.
he just called me dumber than a light switch in 100 different ways
Great video, but do you have to reset everything if the power blinks during a storm or heavy rain? 👀💯
Nope. Things come back online by themselves.
How does this guy DONT have a UA-cam channel??
Hi, what is the name of this hub from samsung? this thing in the master bedroom, i´m looking for this if this available here in germany
SmartThings Station. It’s in USA and South Korea currently. They announced at SDC it’s coming to Europe beginning of next year I think.
Wow. Is that an echo flex. Why the hell did Amazon stop producing the flex.
Right! It was perfect for bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc.
It would've been intersting to see how you shut the water off automatically once water is detected in the laundry room
I use a Zooz Titan z-wave water valve controller
4:35 what kind of switches are these?
Zooz
RIP his My-Q garage door
Yeah to mine too. But Jimmy just got the RATGDO x.com/automated_hous/status/1722744319138730031?s=46 and so did I. I plan on covering it very soon.
So, if I understand correctly, MyQ will still work, but with their app only, and no longer with API on other smart devices, correct?
