If one coil fails, you would need a complete replacement.
Keep in mind that if one of the coils are bad, then the others are probably going bad as well. I would also suggest new spark plugs , new spark plug wires as well as anti seize.
1. To replace both coil packs I recommend ,$45.98

Thanks for taking the trouble and making this video!
I had a very intermittent P0354 #4 cylinder misfire. It was fixed by replacing a very dry and worn out intake manifold gasket. $20.00
Bless you man 👍
My number 4 cylinder misfire is due to oil getting into my spark plug tubes...it's getting soaked in cylinder 2 and 4 it would be a great summer fix but it's cold in the Northeast so I'm taking it to a shop....
So how did you gain access to and remove the bolts on the BACK coil?
Thanks for the video. So there are just to of those coils on the 97 Rav 4 that handles the 4 cylinders? Is the two coils right next to each other?
bless you! thanks for the vid!
Hey JJ nice to see you online again bud ;-)
+autobuff65 what's up
JamieJones TheCarMan love the videos !
How did you get the rear bolts out
Im trying to remove back coil in my 2001 toyota camry but cant get to it easily. What other parts do i have to remove to get to it??
may need to remove the 2 small water lines going to IAC ( below the Throttle body) to give you more room. Replace these 2 lines along with clamps. Napa can supply new hoses.
So basically p1300 error code is a code for the coil packs?
After just going through this and the issue NOT being coils, ECU, PCM, coil connector or wiring, vacuum leak etc.
I found that is was a broken spark plug. I'm sure I did this either during installation or when I was trouble shooting.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS check the spark plug! Mine was cracked! $5-$10 fix. It was throwing up codes for cylinder 4 misfire
and cylinder one misfire, when this cracked plug was on cylinder one.
Have not figured that part of it out yet.
The reason why it was throwing codes for #1 and #4 cylinder misfire eventhough the bad spark plug was in cylinder #1 is because this is a "waste spark" type ignition system. The spark for both #1 & #4 cylinders is provided by the same coil, so both #1 & #4 spark plugs create a spark when #1 is on the compression stroke and vice versa. When #1 is on the compression stroke, #4 is on the exhaust stroke so although #4 sparks, it doesn't have an air/fuel mixture to ignite. Cylinders #1 & #4 share the same feedback to the ECM so that's why you get codes for both. Hope this helps.
@@bernardocisneros4402 Awesome information!!
I ended up replacing the intake manifold gasket after my original post. It has not thrown a misfire code since.
Thanks again!
@@captfcknut Glad to hear no more misfires.
if you only have 1 cylinder misfire code, can it still be the coil pack that handles 2 cylinders on the 98 Tacoma...Ive replaces the plugs and wires so far but still the engine still falls into a misfire situation every couple days.. sometimes for a couple minutes, then snaps back to running fine...Thoughts??? Thanks
Yes it can
Most common thing is the coil , probably acts a little crazy after it warms up .
If you already replaced plugs and plug wires, then I would replace the coil. That should fix it assuming problem cylinder has good compression and fuel injector is working properly.
How did you get the 2-3 coil pack out I’m having trouble getting to it
Hey, did u manage to get it out ? And how? I'm gonna start working on it now, any help would be great, thanks !!
It's a pain in the butt getting the back one out he made it look too easy because he had it out already
2:19 .. you blew a head gasket
10/4
The one reason I watched this video is to find out how the hell you get the rear 1 off as the bolts are facing the firewall and its VERY tight back there.
And of course it's the one thing you don't show. Awesome.
Nobody is going to tell you I tried
10 mm shallow socket, 1/4 inch drive ratchet with 6 inch extension. Takes about 5 minutes to take both bolts off and you don't have to remove anything to get to them.
@@bernardocisneros4402 It's facing the firewall with about 1½" of clearance. I boughta straight ratcheting wrench set just for it and the 1 bolt took about 10 minutes to ratchet out with 2 clicks of the fine tooth ratcheting wrench each time. There is no room. We're talking about different items. I left that pos out.
@@jonathanwright7991 Yeah, I guess we are talking different vehicles. I was referring to Camrys 1997 thru 2001.
Dude I'm facing the same issue :(
My 2002 camry idles rough. Code says misfire cyl 2 . Changed coil, still there. Plugs new.Not running hot.idles good after engine raced up to 4k for a minute.
I'd be checking the coil pack if I were you
To reset idle in my 99 camry i found that you have to pull E brake and put it in drive. AFTER CAR IS ALREADY WARMED UP! Saw it in another toyoda video fixed mine
Can anybody please tell me why my 2000 Nissan Maxima has a rapid clicking when starting sometimes it starts up I replace the starter replace the battery terminals don't know what else to do car runs fine when it's on I hoping it's nothing major
Is it like a loud Click click click that sounds like a Bomb?
Lol and sounds like it's coming from under or behind the front dash?
If my engine was misfiring, replacing a coil wouldn't be my first option. Getting a misfire code on let's say both #1 & #4 cylinders doesn't necessarily mean their coil is faulty. It could be one of the plugs or one of the wires that's failing. Camry's 1997 through 2001 use a "waste spark" type of ignition system. This means that both cylinders on a coil get a spark regardless of which one is on the compression stroke. Also the 2 cylinders on a coil share the same feedback path to the ECM. This path can't differentiate which cylender misfired so if only #1 is misfiring, the computer will throw codes for #1 & #4. I would first rule out spark plugs and plug wires. Plugs and wires are easier to remove and cheaper to replace. I would first remove the spark plugs from #1 & #4 and put them in #2 & #3. Put plugs from #2 & #3 into #1& #4. If you still get the same cylinders misfiring then check resistance on plug wires and replace them if out of spec or just replace them if you don't want to check resistance. If after replacing wires, the same cylinders are still misfiring, then check to make sure coil is getting power, ground, and signal from ECM signaling it to fire. If all is good there, then replace the coil. More than likely it's the coil, so if you don't know how to check if coil is getting power, ground, or signal, then just replace coil. If replacing coil doesn't fix it, then it's a problem with power, ground, and/or signal from ECM. All this is assuming you have good compression and fuel injectors are working properly in cylinders that are misfiring. I hope it helps
Hello sir .i have problem , #3 & #2 no spark. But if i swap the two coil cables then #3 will spark and #4 #1 wont spark.
Any advice please .thank you....
@@skarsdhark4846If when you say that you swap the 2 coil cables, you mean you swap the 2 spark plug wires from 2 & 3 to #1 & #4 and now you no longer have spark on 1 & 4 but now you have spark on 2 & 3, then that means the spark plug wires are bad. Buy and install new spark plug wires. The spark plugs should be replaced with new ones also because sometimes wires and coils fail because of old spark plugs.
Thank you for replying sir.
I have new spark plug and spark plug cables installed already.
I am having the same result ok here is what i did.
I have all four spark plug cables with spark plug connected , when i turn over the engine ( try to start) #3 and #2 spark plug have spark the other two have no spark.
Now i swapped the two coil connection, now #4 and #1 have spark and other two have no spark.
I think maybe crank sensor (no money for that)
I have very much headache,
Thank you very much for your help sir..............
@@skarsdhark4846 When you say that you swapped the two coil connections, are you talking about the connections between spark plug cable and coils or the connections between wiring harness and coils? Are you working on a Camry?
I have toyota tercel japan model( us model have 5efe engine with two coils but different set-up)1998 4efe engine with two coils for all four cylinder .thank you....
How many miles on this machine for the coil change ?
About 100,000 miles about all you’re going to get out of them sometimes you can get a little longer but you can kind of expect problems and 100,000 miles
@@jamiejonesthecarman ive got a 01 cam I4 172k still original coil pack i believe so maybe im lucky. But probably should swap out before too long. I dont get misfires at this point (no trouble codes either) and it seems just fine.
I would mess with it until it goes bad
J
I will call bullshit on removing it in 30 seconds. Especially if it's the first coil pack. Why? the bottom 10 mm bolt is tucked behind the thermostat housing. There is no clear shot at it. You have to remove the thermostat housing and pop off the hose.
Did you just bark at your dog??
Seems like your guessing.....
Mike Oneill about what
JamieJones TheCarMan
All I’m saying is what made you think it was the coil.
What if it was a fuel pump and you replaced it without doing a fuel pressure test?
The problem of today is we have a lot of folks changing parts without the appropriate diagnosis and or testing procedures.
Mike Oneill no fire on 2 or 3 , wet plugs , comp at 176 and 180psi
