    I had a persistent p0302 code on 2000 celica gt. You mentioned it might be electric if error stayed on same cylinder despite coil switch. But if it was electric, why would there be a spark? All injectors replaced, no oil leak, compression good across all 4. What might still be the problem? Do you have video tutorial on how to test electric connector? The car runs fine except for the engine light comes back on after reset.

    Great video, I have a 2002 Tundra that is throwing the igniter code for the entire drivers side bank, cylinders 1, 3, 5 ,7. I suspect it is a ground issue. I want to test the ground at the coil plug, would i connect my multimeter to the negative battery terminal and then touch the ground wire on the clip? Or do I need to find where the coils are grounded on the engine and use that as the grounding point for the test?

    Brian, I have a 97 Rav4 that has been making a knocking/rattling yype noise for a while. I'm certain it's not an engine or spark knock. It has over 200k miles & burns a good bit of oil which I check & refill every few days. Yesterday I was driving slow on a back road and out of the blue it shut off. I checked the oil (full) and all other fluids, etc were good. Belts are intact, battery good... It will not crank. It sounds like the starter is turning but the engine isn't turning over. Any thoughts or ideas you might throw at me?!?
    Thanks in advance!

How do I know what order the wires go? I have not been able to find a diagram for this particular car. Do you have any pictures I can take a look at to see the order in which the wires are connected?? Or any other way of knowing what order they go???

    I am having Coils issues with CEL code of P0351/52/53/54 I replaced all Spark Plugs with NGK and all 4 Coils with Denso. And I'm still having the same issues. The cars has cut off on me while taking off at a stop sign or light and sometimes it has cut off while parked. It's 2006 Corolla CE Manual. Some people have told me it could be the ECU. Others have told me that it could be the fuel pump. Others have told me that it must be a ground problem. I had reputable mechanic check the car and I was told that the wiring is fine, but the mechanic couldn't figure out what was the issue. I've had this car for almost 5 years and it had never given me any issues until now.

    Hi I have a 2001 corolla with check engine light for a misfire in cylinder 1.switched all 4 spark plugs out with new ones and light is still on so I proceeded to pull every plug from the coil 1 by 1 but when I did that the car wouldn’t start for any plug. Any idea why it shows a misfire in cylinder 1 ?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  4 роки тому

      Alberto Garcia Take the ignition coil from one and swap it over from two and two to one. Now drive the car iif the misfire now switches to cylinder number two you know it’s the coil. If it still shows number one then I would do a compression test.

After i changed it i had intermittent codes on 2 other cylinders. If a coil is dead completely the ECM will turn off the injector. The injectors are easy to get to so you can listen for a click with a screw driver. I wasted time checking for a broken injector wire.

      oh, thanks for the reply, I bought a noid light tester, surely cylinder 3 was not getting any pulse, then I though it was an electrical problem, I inspected all the wires, they were perfectly fine, I did a continuity test and something odd happened, the test I did was with everything off, I did the test on power for the fuel injectors and all 4 were good they got a continuity, ( I did the test by touching power cable from fuel injector, and ground or power on battery) I did the same to the 4 cables that connect the computer to the fuel injector, 3 of them had no continuity which is normal since everything is off, but the one from cylinder 3 had a continuity same as with power cable, so I though it must be touching a power cable, I did single cable continuity test from bad cylinder 3 cable, traced all the way back to the computer brown cable with gray dots where it connects to the computer , continuity was good, so I removed the cables from the computer and did the first test with the computer cable to battery (same like I did with power cables to battery), and the continuity was gone, it looks like inside the computer somehow there is a short or just the cylinder 3 connection is touching power, I opened the computer and everything looks perfectly fine almost like new, but this is beyond my knowledge I can't deal with tiny parts on the computer, I'm not sure if I should bring the computer or the whole car with computer to the dealer for a test, or just buy a computer from ebay and switch it to see if the problem will be gone. I can't go beyond this right now, I don't know what else could be.

    • @nobodyimportant8695
      @nobodyimportant8695 6 років тому

      I had the same thing happen to me a while back, and it turned out it was a bad Fuel Inj#3 - I had it replaced and it fixed the problem. One of the most expensive problems on most older Toys is that the Fuel Injectors go pretty quickly. If one is at its end, be sure you can bet the rest will eventually follow. Best advice is when they have the shell cracked you should change them all at that time and possibly have them do the Gasket Seals also it'll save some money. Then you should be good for another 100k or so. My first failure is when my truck hit 218k Fuel Inj #5, At 249K Fuel Inj #3 went, then at 267K Fuel Inj #2 went and at that point I had Fuel Inj #1, 4, and 6 Replaced as well as my Valve cover gasket seals cuz they were leaking a little bit.

    If you suspect the coils (BTW coils will go tend to go bad around the 250,000 km mark and you have a 4 cylinder engine, just replace the coils. Most 4 pack coils for 4 cylinder engines are less that $100 and that way you are good for another 250,000 km. Inspect the coils when you have them out and if you see tiny hairline cracks in the coil's shaft end, that indicates the coils are getting old and on their way out. Anther indication is the car's engine will begin to hesitate upon light acceleration and sometimes possibly stall

    My wifes 1999 Lexus RX300 is getting a P0304 and I installing a new one still didn't resolve. My diagram shows the second wire from the 12v power as the 5v ecm signal wire which I get 5v with the key on. Even though this is showing 5v it doesn't further diagnose the lack of signal which for that I'd meed an oscilloscope. I know my wife loves her suv but a 390k I think its time. We;ve had it since 2008. Would still like to solve this issue though.

    Denso parts on a Toyota. NOT Bosch. Some ECU’s will not communicate with some brands. Toyotas are one of these

    VW= Bosch. Toyota= Denso. There is a reason why factory parts are expensive.
    Factory parts work the best.
