But I have a1989 Toyota Camry crank no start and no fire but I put new plugs and distributor cap and spark plugs wires but where is cool and how do I check it let me know asap
@@georgemcmillian8557 Look under your distributor cap...our '94-96 has it there.
A local mechanic charged $200 to replace one ignition coil. Got the part from 1aauto and did it myself: $35 and 15 minutes of work thanks to this video. The bolts on the #2 coil can be a pain to reach but shine a light in there so you can see roughly where they are and use a long 10mm socket. Trick is getting in there with all the hoses on the right side of the coil, but it can be done with some persistence.

Pep Boys charged me 550 to fix ONE ignition coil. What a scheme! NEVER AGAIN!

Wow, I learned a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in repair work on my 2001 Toyota Camry. All the symptoms I am currently having.
Perfect tutorial 🙌 explained every thing I needed to know!
He said "passenger side of the engine"... is this an UK/japanese/austrailian based car? Otherwise, the coils are on the drivers side.
Hey y’all, just did the front coil on a 2000 Solara to treat a P0300 code. I’m definitely gonna have my mechanic do the back coils though hahaha Switching the front pack seemed to do the trick though, but it’s best to do both of these at the same time.. especially if both units are original Toyota units with nearly 200k on them (nearly twice their expected lifetime!).
I can definitely feel the bolt heads if I reach down from the right side of the air intake (closest to firewall), but a standard combo wrench is gonna have a hell of a time grabbing onto the bolts. I was able to break loose the top bolt, but there’s so much soot in the threads that I can’t unscrew it the rest of the way with my fingers.
This seems doable if you have 10mm flex head gear wrench, but with a basic straight wrench you’ll end up loosening the bolts in your brain before you loosen them on the coils 💀
my 1998 toyota goes off when i turn on the air conditioning and it's in idle mode .I suspect a bad coil but you mentioned the primary and secondary coil are they the same parts or different ones can you please share the links for the two coils because I am a little bit confused
Hello i just had a coil install one coil. im confused about the universal part which i installed. is the 1 and 4 left and right just like the dealer part? After installation my car will crank but wont start easily if at all. When i did get it to start it is idling. please help
I have a 98 rav4 with the same engine. I got a p1300 and p1310 code. suffering from a crank but not start symptom. I swapped both coils out and still not start. when I hold the gas pedal in it seems like it wants to bite the gas after a 10 second crank.
Your awesome, nice professional video
Seems like it would be advantageous to remove the vapor recovery hose from the valve cover before starting and then pop it back on afterwards.
QUESTION: Will a failed coil pack definitely cause two misfire codes for example p0301 AND p0304 or can just one code, say p0304 be triggered? This would help differentiate from plug wires or an injector problem.
How about changing the oil cooler gasket Camry 1995 thanks
Do these coil packs use wasted spark principles ? Also, can I find performance/upgraded coil packs for this car ? Thanks. .
Right.... so, how am I expected to get the wrench on the bottom 10mm bolt for the 4 & 1 coil pack? Because I went in from the side, little to no contact, tried up and down and no room to turn, even tried my swivel 10mm socket and couldn't get it on the bolt. I tried tugging on the coil to lower it as the show says and STILL no dice.
Honestly the REAL way it seems, is to take off that coolant junction just by that bottom coil so you can sneak a socket on there, or just remove the air intake tube and box and throttle body then take off the bracket the coils sit on..
For the #2 and #3 coil reach behind to find the heads of the bolts and break them loose with a long skinny ratchet and a 10mm socket then come in with a ratcheting 10mm wrench to remove the bolts. It requires some reaching and working by feel but it’s not too bad. The #1 and #4 coil actually took me longer because the bottom bolt started to cross thread.
i got a 94 celica with this engine with a distrubor is there a coil on plug conversion for this engine
My bolt on the first coil on top is rusty rusty I put penetrating oil hope it helps before I tackle this job
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
So how did you get that bottom bolt off the 4 & 1 coil?
Tips on replacing the coil for plugs 2&3? It’s pretty hard to reach the bolts and get them unscrewed because they are facing back unlike the bolts for the first coil. Any advice is highly appreciated .
Stephon Jones I’d like to know also, been stuck on removing the 2-3 coil
Thanks ❤
I have a 02 Camry LE 4cylinder. Could you make a video showing the numerical sequence for the coils as well as how to replace them. The reading I keep receiving from my vehicle is check engine light accompanied by multiple misfires in cylinders 4 and 2. Now the mechanic I've been to(3x's) should have replaced #4 if he replaced the right one...so could you pls give the sequence for ea. cylinder. Thank you!

What they aren't telling you is that the plugs on the top of the ignition coil may be stuck using a flat head to gently pull the tab located in the back can tremendously help during disassembly.
Have a question for you. My late cousin gave me his father's 2000 Camry LE 4 cylinder.. it now has 183,615 miles on it now. The ignition coils are original. I have read where they should be changed every 60,000 to 100,000. I have new coils but the mechanic didn't put them in I don't know why. I got new spark plugs and wires of the same brand. My question is this should they be changed especially with this many miles on the Camry. One bolt has rusted badly on the front coil. Don't know if I can get that bolt off but will try. Please respond thanks.
Hi .. ihave 1999 model toyota camry ... when I switch on the ac the car starts to vibrate and shake , but when i raise the rpm above 1 the vibration disappears .. is the problem caused by the coil ?
Are the ignition coils interchangeable? Like I can buy the same coil twice and use them
Is it just me or is it hard to insert and remove the spark plug wires. When i push the wires down into the coil they dont go in all the way.
You can push them on with a pair of long needlenose or a pair of pliers. I did it like that for all four wires during my last tuneup. Just be SUPER careful not to squeeze too tight and break the housing (or pinch the wire). You can also try pushing down really hard with your thumb and forefinger and rocking the housing side-to-side until it latches onto the catch. It's easier on your hands if you wear gloves.
Mine nit so easy to remove like you did how can I make it easier
Will this cause Code P0300,P0301? Thanks and love the videos very informative.
Just did this repair for a p0300 and it seems to have solved the issue. Bad spark plugs and wires can cause that code too, all of which I have swapped in the past month lol
p0301 might be fixed by that as well, but it could also be something like the fuel injector for cylinder 1 is clogged. Swapping out the coils is a cheaper and easier job than removing and properly cleaning/replacing the injectors so I’d start there first.
If only Toyota put test valves on their cars to check fuel pressure or else I’d tell you to check that first 🤦🏼♂️
A while back I put seam foam in my 2000 Toyota Solara V4 engine but then the check engine light was on after driving it for a while. According to a code from Advance Auto Parts: the fuel injector needs to be clean. There’s misfiring in all 4 cyl. I replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil but things got worse. I assume that the MAF was contaminated so I spray a little MAF cleanner in the intake then I started the engine. However the front catalytic converter overheated before that and the problem continued. I removed the new spark plugs to check them and they had carbon on them. They got dirty really quickly. The check engine light is on and flashing. What should I do?
+Prince Vlad We would suggest consulting with a reputable local mechanic to provide a diagnostic for your vehicle. 1aauto.com
Anyone able to reach the bolts on the 2/3rd coil pack? How'd you do it? Thank you in advance.
I attempted and failed lol I was able to reach the bolts from the right side of the air intake, but I think you’ll need a flex head gear wrench to get it.
You could always remove the throttle body... 🥲
It will be great if you guys made a 1997-2001 Toyota Camry valve cover gasket repair video!!!

@@1AAuto OK thanks
Question: Hi, I drive a 1999 Toyota Corolla & the ignition coil set up looks almost identical -but- I can’t see what you are disconnecting unhooking on the ignition coils before you take the bolts off. Can you please explain what you are unhooking/where it’s located & if it is something that’s part of the ‘99 Corolla as well? Thank you!
If it's anything like the Camry, there's a vertical tab facing the driver's side quarter panel. Carefully stick a flat screwdriver between it and the housing of the spark plug and turn the screwdriver just a hair. That should release the housing from the ignition coil. Be careful not to twist the screwdriver too much, or it will break the tab off.
Had problems with our 99 Camry 2.2. Surging had lack of power In gear or (under load) no engine light.
I've done everything to this car except replace engine. Normal things to do with camry's.
Cleaned throttle body iac valve, air filter replace plugs and wires heat control valve.Replaced fuel filter checked for air leaks ect...... None of these worked. Sorry when I changed out my spark plug
wires the first time it did seem to run better, BUT a couple of weeks later same results .
Finally engine light came on showing we needed spark plugs and wires. What? just changed them not long ago. Then I thought of that video about the coil, replaced it thought of myself as a master mechanic NOT.... Had same problems, then I had to take a moment to think, sometimes that can be difficult for me.. I had my old set of spark plug wires decided to change 1&4 plug wires. IT'S a miracle it runs great. Fingers crossed, no check engine light no surge.
Thanks for the 1aauto guy.
God bless

Then I watched this video with the 1aauto guy, (WOW) awesome work young man.

Is the v6 coils in the same place and how long would they take to do all of them? I also hear I need 3 and not 6
+Donald J. Trump From The Trenches At this moment, the closest how-to video we have to your request is for this vehicle, which is very similar to the one you have. The steps may not be 100% the same, but should contain an adequate amount of information necessary for accomplishing this task.
What cause coil to burn every time change my one and four coil it burn up
why i can not put wire on coil 3-2
Is there a way to know which is ignition coil is bad?

Cant reach bolts for the second coil😔
Don't feel bad neither can I..
Yeah, I noticed that the Tech talked his way thru the replacement of the 2-3 coil ... but didnt actually take it off & replace it.
At 2:33 he's holding the new and old coil pack. The old one says 1-4, and he says this from left to right. But when he refers to ther new one he says 1-4, 3-2 from right to left. So is the coil wire order 1-4-2-3 or 1-4-3-2?
1-4, 3-2.. Look at the video in high resolution 1080p or 720p i fyou can. At exactly 2:20 you catch a glimpse of the markings of the new coil. Clearly 1-4 and 3-2. Note the wires are marked as the OEM, but these swap locations from 2-3 to 3-2. Or so it appears. Another video says 4-1, 2-3 but I'm not believing that. The old coils say 1-4, 2-3. Good luck.
It would really be better that you would show us actually you unscrewing each bolt ,so for all of us watching this video.
Yeah especially that bottom bolt.. when I removed the air intake tube I was able to get to that bolt from the bottom
Do you have to disconnect the battery? 0_0
Okay it’s 1 & 4 2&3 kool
So the first coil is 1-3 i have to replace the no 3 coil?
First coil is 1-4, second coil (closest to firewall) is 2-3
I have a question. My check engine light isn't on, but when my car is in idle/first gear it has trouble accelerating. Once it gets into second gear and beyond it runs fine but getting to that point can be troublesome. Could this be caused by the ignition coil?
+Zakerdoodle There could be many reasons why you are experiencing this problem, we'd suggest getting your vehicle diagnosed by a local mechanic to figure out what's going on. We would be happy to see if we have the parts available once you find out what you need! 1aauto.com
Can you do this with a 1999 Toyota corolla
+Kaishau Carr We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com
The hard part is things like how to disconnect the plastic clips. You explain that we need to prop up the hood, And then you reached out to pop off those plug wires from the coils like there was no secret, as if there was not only one very specific way in which those wires will come off
There's a vertical tab facing the driver's side quarter panel. Carefully stick a flat screwdriver between it and the housing of the spark plug and turn the screwdriver just a hair. That should release the housing from the ignition coil. Be careful not to twist the screwdriver too much, or it will break the tab off.
Great video!
I have a question though. In the video you mentioned the order was 1,4,2,3. However, the manual diagram says 1,4,3,2 and the firing order being 1-3-4-2. Could you confirm which one is correct?
Did you ever find out??
Of course you changed the easy one
I can't remove the fat cable from the ignition coil 😖😖😖
*Note: Please consider showing a view of the part/parts prior to removal in your video's for those 'visual learners' out there. (Not that I"m one...mind you !-)
Driver side ,not passanger side
My plugs don’t fit right
Can bad ignition coil actually prevent the car from starting?
+Andrew Suarez If all ignition coils are bad, yes. If only one is bad, the rest should start but you will have a misfire causing a check engine light
@@1AAuto I have just a P1300 code on my 97 Camry. Could both ignition coils 1 and 2 be bad without the P1305 code coming up? Could the ignition connector wires be bad?
If the plug broke what to do
+Kedar Jamin I strongly recommend that you have a reputable mechanic inspect it. They’ll be able to troubleshoot the problem and tell you what part or parts you’ll need for the repair. Thank you! 1aauto.com

Different for V6 Camry.
Isn't that the drivers side of the engine??
+MultiJimmyb Yes the coils are located on the driver side of the engine. 1aauto.com
