      His copilot was handling the radio, when he was landing, not him. Im a commercial pilot and flight instructor for decades, 67 years old. When they hit the birds his copilot was flying that leg as required, Sully was handling the radio as required, but then as required, Sully took over the airplane, then the copilot the radio later on, Sully did the ditching as required, not the copilot. In a critical emergency the captain is required to take over the controls even if that leg was for the copilot to practice.

      Well I heard that The plane does not land and stop smooth all the time especially as it's slowing down to a halt... it does shake... the location of where you are sitting might not have the same turbulence or shake as much as another. And maybe thinking you are about to literally die after experiencing something you will hopefully never experience will make your adrenaline and senses go haywire. LOL u heard from two passengers it was like a regular landing here you see footage and one say it was violent instead of just being glad no one else died you had to feel superior with power and disagree with an actual survivor. The urge in you could not resist to say No you are wrong. complimenting the pilots like you were attacked and taking the violent landing comment like an insult to your pilot best friends when that was never even questioned. Yes Sherlock planes can land with one engine how do you think this one even landed God bless you for the knowledge you spread. 🆘✝️🛐 I'm just speculating you got the whole thing wrong. Empathy. 🧠🫀✌️

    This is very scary and it must have been horrifying, but I wish people were more educated on aircraft as it may slightly lessen the stress. Maybe airliners could make the safety videos go a little more in depth, this would help a lot. And maybe even educate the flight attendants a lot more since most people look to see if they’re panicking. An airplane will not drop like a rock, unless there is a major malfunction in which the horizontal or vertical stabilizers fail and fall off or in a stall which doesn’t seem to be the case, or there are many things but too many to list. We do not yet know what made this aircrafts engine explode. And for the sudden drop in altitude, that was most likely the pilot decreasing altitude to save the people as oxygen masks only last for seconds. I’m going to make an educated guess that if the pilot made a smooth enough descent to make the drop feel unnoticeable, that the engine exploding may have caused a sudden force of drag causing the wing to dip down.
    - Please let me know if I need to correct anything, as far as I know, my information is correct.
    Im sorry if I was misunderstood about what I was saying, but I did not realize I needed to put specific details about how a plane does this, so I will add more information if there is more confusion.
    Also, I’m not the best at putting my thoughts into words, so I am very sorry if you thought i was insulting those who panicked. Thanks.

      @jeremyp5027 6 років тому +29

      it can only glide like a falling rock. it can only start to fly once it has reached a terminal speed high enough to generate lift on the wings. and yes a plane can fall down flat like a drop of water, splat on the ground and be level. www.thebalance.com/what-is-an-aircraft-stall-282603

    The unsung heroes are the air traffic controllers that cleared a path through the busiest airspace in the world (the NY condor) to bring her into KPHL. The amount of coordination that took place behind the scenes in those few minutes is mind boggling to those of us that fly that airspace regularly.

Even knowing i have been in very stressful situations in my life time as a first responder, I give people props on this flight for remaining as calm as they did, taken consideration! I still believe that air travel is one of the most safest types of transportation considering the amount of attention each air disasters ( not all need to be deadly ) receive proves that out of thousands of flights a day, we rarely see a deadly crash compared to automobile crashes. Just dont want people to freak out and never fly again thats all.

    This is such a tragedy. I remember meeting Mr. Kelleher, back in 2001 and he was such an extraordinary gentleman. We must have sit and talked for more than an hour, laughing and talking, before I even knew who he was. We were talking about flight experiences and I shared a wonderful experience with him that I had on a Southwest flight, when the flight attendants took my little girl with them on a layover, to give me a break.
    Well, when he presented me with a business card and told me to send him the letter directly after I said I wanted to send a letter of commendation on their behalf, I was completely blown away. I had no idea, I was sitting there laughing and talking with one of the founders of Southwest Airlines.
    This really saddens me for all involved. Southwest has such a wonderful reputation in the industry and their staff has always been courteous, professional and has continually shown a sincere concern for the passengers.
    My prayers are will all involved, and this includes Southwest Airlines. Certainly tragic and horrifying news.

    I hate to be a jerk. I’m sure this guy was scared, but apparently not too scared to livestream on Facebook.
    At the start of every damned flight they tell you how to put on your oxygen mask with it held in place by the rubber band strap over your mouth and nose. And this guy is holding it with his hand and only over his mouth.
    But he remembered to use his phone to livestream and that’s what’s important, right?

    • @anonfalco7880
      @anonfalco7880 5 років тому +5

      Maybe because he was scared to death? To say goodbye to his family? Because he thought he was going to die? You think he wasn't panicking and could focus on doing everything right while under pressure, he said the thought of not being able to say goodbye was what he feared the most. OF COURSE he remembered how to use his phone because he does it everyday, but you aren't in a live or death situation with the oxygen mask everyday.
      Yes, you are being a jerk.

    If anyone has any delusions about what happens when an aircraft experiences sudden decompression, let this incident stand as a stark reminder of how serious such an event is. The lady passenger, who died, likely didn't even know what hit her. It was that quick. Though possible, but certainly not common, a piece or pieces from the left engine took her window seat window out. Subsequently causing her to be literally almost sucked out of the aircraft. If not for the bravery of a few passengers, her lifeless body most assuredly would have been ripped out of that window. Graphic details, but true.
    The flight crew did an excellent job. Especially, the pilots. Flight attendants were likely in panic mode alright, but not because they didn't know what they were doing. Passengers were screaming and a women was killed. That would be enough to shake anyone up. Especially if you are human.
    The 737-700 series aircraft, commonly used by SW and other carriers is a very robust well constructed and aerodynamically sound aircraft. It can easily fly on one engine. With altitude, landing, though difficult, is likely.
    I offer my condolences to the ladies family. May she rest in the Lord and may her family find peace.

      @natural-born_pilot 6 років тому +1

      That wasn't right saying the situation was probably maintenance oversight. As a prior jet aircraft technician I can tell most all maintenance personnel who work on aircraft are responsible and take their jobs serious. From my past experience I would speculate that there was a very fine stress crack the kind that is almost impossible to see with the naked eye and only by special inspection such as NDI which would be done with that part of the engine off the aircraft and inside the test base facility. A stress crack can form anytime during operation but is highly improbable.

      @DC8Combi 6 років тому +1

      sclogse1 very possible this would fall under a foundry fault as data was falsified by Kobe. It’s amazing many aircraft manufacturers have claimed to backtrack on their records to clear the possibility that they used bad Kobe products but who really knows in this corporate controlled environment lies are told to increase profits for the shareholders. What worries me is the FAA has been pushed to keep expanding the ETOPS (Extended Twin Engine Overwater Operations) this can be dangerous. What people fail to realize is if a large enough piece of blade breaks loose even though the engine is shut down the blades keep spinning in the jet stream. This causes severe unbalanced conditions resulting in heavy vibrations throughout the aircraft. There was a flight over water once that had a blade out condition and after shutdown was flying on one engine. The vibrations got so severe that at one point the crew contemplated ditching into the ocean as they could no longer read the instruments due to the severe vibrations.
