    So...
    -The foundation didn't act like idiots
    -They didn't mishandle the anomaly in anyway
    -They didn't throw away lives unnecessarily
    -They didn't do something unnecessarily unethical
    -They made friends with another anomalous race
    This was fantastic and we need more stories like this

      I feel like most of what the foundation does must be pretty mundane and we just hear the ones where they screw up because they’re the most interesting. Wouldn’t be much of a foundation left if they lost several MTFs on a weekly basis. Most of them I feel are like “we found this anomalous calculator that doesn’t seem to run out of battery power…”

    Author here! A small but very important clarification in regards to 3703: 3703 is not a containment unit for anomalous entities itself. It is, instead, a source of power. Teran is not contained within 4700, rather the large diamond structure at the center of the innermost cylinder is the source of power for the entire vehicle and the civilization it contains within. 3703 works by drawing power directly from the astral plane (I.E. cold plasma). Teran is contained within the Astral plane and in the material plane at the same time. The specific 3703 instance that's shown in 3703's article just so happens to connect to the where Teran is contained. Different instances of 3703 are used to power many of the Finnfolk's technologies, ranging from their vehicles, to the massive ancient containment complexes after each sealing war (a topic that will eventually be covered my 001 proposal).
    Other than that, great rendition of the article (and a very unexpected one, since 4700 is the longest thing I've written for the site).

Hopefully things stay good between them and we see more of these guys in the future. The thing is, this is also likely the most "in-character" approach to the situation for the Foundation.
      They aren't there to destroy and rmeove everything abnormal, they are there to contain the normalcy of the world.
      It just so happens that in this case helping a non-human civilization who has 0% interest in exposing themselves to humanity is a perfect fit for that objective.
      Similarly, the fact that Fae beings might escape 4000 doesn't turn the Foundation of that article into a war-machine.
      Sure, the Fae were still massacred in a way or another in the past, but it was a war of some kind, depending on which version of the Fae ones prefer this doesn't change.
      Let alone the fact that killing supernatural stuff doesn't mean it is "contained". Check, the good ol' chair.

    I love the occasional SCP story where the Foundation does things well and stuff turns out mostly alright in the end. Thanks for the summary, it makes me want to check out the article and related SCPs.

  • @jonathongoulding9780
    @jonathongoulding9780 2 роки тому +12

    I always get confused why authors of SCP articles overblow the dimensions of things. In 3700, the section of ocean is only 5km deep, yet a vehicle within it has doorways with diameters of 60 km?? And the 2nd entity in 3700 is 30km long and can somehow lower it's tail into the 5km deep ocean to create a whirlpool?
    I get that you want to make things beyond human comprehension, but this stuff always breaks me out of the immersion in the narrative. Breaking physics has its place in certain SCPs, but grounding stories in reality can enhance the narrative.

    • @bloodyneptune
      @bloodyneptune Рік тому +4

      I think you missed the part where the vehicle is 5km wide and 3km high. At least from the outside, they use magic and crap to pull a Tardis effect.
      Its bigger on the inside.

    I'm so happy to finally hear a narrative article that has a positive outcome. I feel like it's been a while since the authors allowed themselves to be less bleak.
    While I don't know the details of Orkadian mythology, from this it seems like it could be compatible with the Kaktus Canon and its treatment of Fae history.

    They spent five years trying to repair that robot crab? You know what that means? The human repair crews had to have been living among the Finnfolk for years. I'm glad they managed to get along long enough to get some work done. I wouldn't be surprised if a few mixed couples sprang up. These five years would be an amazing setting for a story, maybe a scifi/fantasy slice of life drama or something.

    My favorite SCPs are ones like this where other species are just treated as people. Very different sorts of people, sure, but still people. It gets very tiring when so much fiction automatically assumes that anything alien is inherently hostile, which seems especially prevalent among SCP fiction (perhaps for obvious reasons, but it's still very prevalent). It also gets very tiring how many SCP entries go out of their way to paint the Foundation as cartoonishly evil just for the sake of edginess (Seriously, if the Foundation depicted in many articles found a magical singing meat grinder, it wouldn't be surprising if they just started chucking in D-class babies for no reason), so to see an entry where the Foundation launches a major military operation to rescue and relocate a city of non-human refugees is very refreshing.

    • @Hyperversum3
      @Hyperversum3 2 роки тому

      Honestly, there are different types of articles. Some stories are about the pure, unadultered fear of a mysterious and hostile to its core entity or event, hellbent on hurting humans no matter what. These are the stories where you just want to know what the fuck is that and try to remove it, because it's dangerous.
      Some are more a middle ground, between scientific research and exploring the universe around the Foundation.
      Then of course, some are like what you describe, but what makes them special is exactly that they aren't all there is to see in the SCP universe.
      These Finfolks are the rare example of another civilization being in good relationship with the current status quo of the world AND not having any reason to turn on humans, quite the opposite.
      Similarly, while the failure and loss in this situation would have been bad, they weren't "THe single worst thing ever happened", which is way too common in series 6 and 7 when you go in this kind of long and big articles.
