Banshee Idle & Misfire

  • Terrible misfire on the left cylinder. The pipe isn't even warm at idle. Rebuilt carbs, tried to balance carbs, adjusted air screws. Problem does not follow plug. Working on it :( Any ideas?

    I realize this is two years old but for viewers who may have this similar problem, I had this problem on my 97 and it was caused by the boost bottle cracking the intake boots. Be sure to check that if you are running a boost bottle! Recommend not running one!

    If the pipe is not getting warm, that means you have a dead cylinder. Taking a compression check if they are above 75psi and not more then 10 psi apart your ok. Now this doesn't always mean the top end or rings. I noticed there is not a lot of exhaust coming out of the left pipe. One good thing about banshees is you have two to play with.
    Pull each plug and hold it against the head while kicking it. there should be a spark
    You can switch the plugs and see if the exhaust changes to the other pipe. If not its a gas issue.
    I noticed you have the T.H.O.R.S. removed... make sure you have the control unit under the tank leftside unplugged. if its having trouble idling but seems ok from 3/4 to full throttle its your pilot jet. also make sure you check the air jet in the back.
    pilot jet for idle to 1/4... needle from 1/4 to 3/4 and main jet from 3/4 to full...
    Solution: 10 to 1 its a clogged pilot jet low it out with a compressor they also have wire cleaners that will fit into the hole make sure you use the right size.

    had same issue adjust the needles in your slides usually runs best on the #3 - #4 notch.. clean carbs real good. make sure your slides when installed in your carbs have the half moon shaped facing out towards your airbox! NO FLAT BOTTOMING OUT!! sync carbs by the adjusters on your cables.. also make sure your slide guides are pushed in all the way so your slides dont turn!

    Hola, tengo el mismo problema del lado izquierdo, acelera bien pero cuando largo es como que tose del escape. Invertí los cables de bujia sigue igual. Que puede ser?

    I Have a 2004 banshee 350 runs good idleing it want throttle till 2nd and 3 gear the power starts to pick up and also the right side exhaust sounds like its trying to pick the power up is there any suggesting

    plugs could be the problem another thing everyone if you take both of your spark plugs out make sure you don't swap the wires around accidentally it's tricky because when you swap them around the bike will still run but it just won't perform the way its supposed to or you will foul up plugs more often than usual

    1st thing you should do is get rid of that boost bottle they are junk and they will crack your intake boots eventually

    my banshee has a problem where its doesnt want to start then when it does start it will run and when i give it gas it bogs down then i give it gas again and its fine. it isnt getting enought gas because when i kick it into first it will run then stall out, what is the problem? there is air in the gas hose connected to where you turn the gas on and off

    Did you figure it out?my is doing the same thing so I rebuilt my top end cleaned the carbs and is still the same. And swaped my plug wires around no change.

    Hey I have a 97 and the other day I had just got back from riding and after I washed it I tried to turn it on and my quad seems like it want to turn on but it dies rignt away and will back fire after 10kicks any idea wats going on and thank you for your time plz help

    might check the boot that goes on the spark plug, just check the boot plugs and coils. hope this helps

    i think its your pickup pulse coil that is bad Because i have the exact same problem in mine,mine would catch on and catch off inside the exspantion chamber and would only kick in at a high rpm and at a low rpm like your idle or even just mid throdle it would run like a bag of shit untill i changed my pickup coil now it runs mint and miss fire has nothing todo with your air to fuel because why would your one side work good but the other if the carbs were cleaned and tuned right so if its not your pickup pules coil it has todo with ignition problems, it could be,cdi,stator,coil but in most cases its just your pickup pulse coil witch is located beside your flywheel

    Looks like the slides are in backwards? Should see the cut away angle of the slide from the back.

    Do you have your fuel bowls switched around? replace your spark plug, check your coils fire, check for low compression. seems how you have the carbs in sync and rebuilt that's out of the question.

    Is it still happening, does it run good on choke? If so you need to adjust your air/fuel mixture screw.

    You seem to be running lean on the left, so turn it in a few turns to allow more fuel and less air.

    you have a airleak, do a leakdown test.

    Mine just has that problem, it was the pilot jet in the carb

      Never completely solved it. I ended up taking the top off the "like new" used motor that a dealer sold me and a piston ring pin had popped out and did the typical crazy pitting. I bought a new head, had the cylinders re-bored, new Wiseco pistons, new gaskets...... and the miss was still there though it seemed to be better. I rode it a couple more times and it's been in storage for three years. I've moved three times, two new jobs and now I live just outside Detroit. But I think it's time to get it out and finish the misfire. I'll have to show these urban jokers what a two stroke sounds like. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll have to start trying them.
