    Both are great, but I love the more forward-sounding, wider soundstage, and more-detailed highs of the Spektor 1.

    @34332 3 роки тому +8

    I prefer the Polk. Overall a better soundstage, weight, more balanced and relaxed sounding. The Spektors are a bit trebbly/shouty. Perhaps they shine more with another (warmer) amp. Polks rule this time, imo.

    Both very good. Very small differences. Through my headphones I prefer the XT20 slightly. But I would have to hear them in reality to judge them seriously. Both comanies know what they are doing!

    Both seem to have a V-shaped frequency curve with a thin mid section. The Dali (59hz to 26khz) sounds treble boosted and the Polk (38hz to 40khz) somewhat bass boosted. The Arcam is capable of producing a strong mid section, so it must be the voicing of the speakers themselves. If one likes that sound, then the Polk has a wider frequency response and would probably be the better buy.

      Solid state amplifiers have a flat frequency response. You're talking out your ass in that regard.

      @@ec6843 That's what I said. It's the voicing of the speakers that accentuate different areas of the frequency response.

    Sorry for commenting again lol. 'Is Leroy On It' reveals how musical and good Spektor 1 at keeping the highs together with the mids and lows. The XT20 seems to push the percussions to the back, sounded a bit muffled while the lows is a bit overpowering. But if you put on some modern stuff, XT20 sounds like it has a little bit of edge, largely due to the extension of bass (boosted bass, I guess), but at the same time, while not having the same extension, Spektor 1's lows sounds enough.

  • @kingie66

    Equally good tonal ballance, but of course Polk XT got that body of bass and Spektor has awesome microdetails, where you hear cymbal decay or touch of strings before it is played.

    Pork aree better sounding but they are bigger, maybe it's better to compare them to Spektor 2?

    Great work E! Keep it coming..would be interesting to hear a comparison test between high end speaker cables VS low end lamp cords:)

      I'm interested. Actually, a few days ago someone changed their powercable and digital toslink to an 'audiophile' cord, with soundsamples. There was a distinct difference, although I prefered the standard cheap cables. I know, its not the same, but sceptical as I am... 😄

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 3 роки тому +1

      I never really cared for the really high end speaker cables I've tried. I prefer a good, but not super thick or expensive cable, like Audioquest's 14 gauge in wall stuff. I'm the odd man out here, because most well known reviewers sem to think speaker cables make the biggest difference, but, to me, interconnects, which carry signals that are much lower voltage and current than speaker cables, make more of a difference. I'm most skeptical of power cords, but, since I have a few guitar amps that use standard IEC power cords, and I had several different ones here, I decided to try different ones in some of the amps, and I could hear a difference between them. It wasn't night and day, but it was audible. The thing about cables is they're very system dependent, some will sound great with one amp and speaker, and not so great with another. Of course, that's true of all parts of a system, whether it's the source, amp, cable, or speaker, system synergy is important. Changing any one of those may make you like your system more or may make you like it less

      I do prefer the odd man, above blindly believing in 'magic' expensive high end speakercables 😄. Psychologically we tend to prefer stuff, when we 'think' it's better, so it seems. Blind tests often confirm that, so I'm usually a sceptic. I also use some good quality thicker cable with acceptable connectors, but it never improved much, if at all (for me). Perhaps my equipment isn't sensitive enough or too low-end. Anyway, it would be an interesting test for E Project.

    This Dali Spector 1 was one of the small, lower cost alternatives I'd considered before going down in price, and scaling up (in my opinion) in musicality, full bodiedness, and bass heft of the Micca RB42's. The Dali's have good energy and are quite clear, but are unbalanced sounding. Their overall response curve is a wild ride, but ultimately for me sound mainly tipped forward and bright, and lacking in warmth and body. Too bad
    These new Polk XT20's however are better to me on the whole, and have a respectable degree of balance, musicality and genuine warmth not found as much in the S or ES Polks, in my opinion. Highs are a touch soft but fairly smooth and easy on the ear. I hear some drop-off in the crossover region, and the bass lacks a bit of speed and control found in better speakers, but overall I find them a nice listen, with fairly minor flaws normal at this price. I can say right here and now, I could live with them more happily and longer than I could live with the Dali's or the B&W 606 and 607 S2's. Crazy, but true.

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 3 роки тому +3

      That's interesting, because the S10 and 15 don't have the body or balance of the XT20, but I feel that the S20 does. I just compared the two, switching back and forth between them with the same songs playing. Of course the video with the S20 had the NAD 316BEE driving it, not the Arcam. Maybe we can talk E Project into doing a comparison of the TX20 and S20 using the Arcam to drive them. I'll have to go back and toggle back and forth between the two again, to see if I come to the same conclusion

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 3 роки тому +2

      Ok, after comparing the S20 and the XT20 again, I find that you're right, the XT20 is better balanced and the S20 is more V shaped, with more recessed midrange response. So, I guess we've found a new king in the under $300 price range. Polk strikes again! They're really on a roll lately. Kudos to their designers! I wonder how they dropped the ball and fumbled on the ES20, 'cause it sounds even more V shaped than the S20. Like you, I'd rather have the XT20 than several of the more expensive speakers we've heard here

    • @williammiebach1798

      @@DougMen1 Their pretty good, but I still wouldn't trade my RB42's for them, and might choose the Q150 over them for $100 more if I could..maybe..???..but I think they're in the running. Good for Polk.

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 3 роки тому +2

      @@williammiebach1798 Even though I prefer the R200 and Q350 here, I'm pretty sure they would be too bassy in my small room, and the R100 and Q150 would no doubt be better, and more to my liking. Besides that, I'm not a big bass freak. I like a clean and punchy bass that most people might even find a bit lean, but I prefer that, over bass that's overpowering and smearing over the detail in the midrange and highs. Clarity and balance from the upper bass through the highs are my preference, over pounding bass. I don't even care about really low bass, extension to 50-60hz is plenty for me. Back in the day when I had big three way Cerwin Vegas with 12" woofers driven by my high speed Kenwood KA7100, I would turn the bass down a little and the treble up a little on the Kenwood to get a good balance from bottom to top from the CVs, and then they were very natural and magic sounding, IMO

      Jamo is for bassheads, who dont mind lack of mids. If you like bass and mids together, my choice around 200usd would be Polk ES20(named S20E in some regions) or Heco Aurora 200. Spektor 1 is solid but 4,5" woofer is too small.

    listening to speakers online, to see how they sound, on anything other than the speakers you are comparing is hilarious... These 2 sets of speakers only sound as good as the, for example, Bose Companion 2's I am using..Its like trying to see the quality of a TV picture on an advertisement being watched by you on your TV. Which is only going to be as good as the TV you are watching advertisement on....

      Unless you’re wearing really good headphones, which I am. I have the industry standard mixing headphones, the Sony MDR-7506. The best part, they are not even very expensive. I find them to be the headphone equivalent in value of the Sony ss-cs5 bookshelf speakers.
      And yeah, Bose companion 2 isn’t the ideal speaker to listen to this video on. They try to have good bass for their size, but they just sound messed up in the treble. Plus, they’re glued shut and irreparable if they break!
