Took me 8 years after I retired to buy my first luxury watch and I bought the Aqua Terra 41mm blue dial with the blue band. Got a great deal on a used one from my local watch dealer. No box or papers but came with a two year warranty all for $3300 dollars. The year on it is 2020. I love this watch and wear it a lot. I have a 7 inch wrist.

Same situation I went through with the AT. Was obsessed with the black 38mm in 2020 until I tried it on, but I was underwhelmed by the dial. Loved the size. Then later I was intrigued by the green. Could just about see it fitting me when I tried it on, but not sold. Then I saw the white/silver 38 and fell in love. The blackened hands and the slight shimmer of the dial for me are perfect. Have the OEM leather and the bracelet. Love both looks. It’s really like having two completely different watches. I think the 38 looks perfect on your wrist. Great presentation as always Andy

I tried on the new colourful 38mm Aqua Terra models this week. They feel quite small and dressy to me but they’ve done a really nice job. A adjustable clasp would have been nice but I wouldn’t wear the bracelet tight because it’s a small light watch. They definitely did the right thing changing the date window before release. It looks really good and ties in visually with the applied markers. The bracelet is a little work of art too.

When I was looking to buy a moonwatch, the green aquaterra really caught my eye. However that only came in a 41mm which actually felt a lot bigger on the wrist compared to a Speedy Pro 42mm!
I eventually opted for the iconic Speedy as it wore smaller but I would have really struggled to make a decision if they had the same green in 38mm - I think Omega missed a trick there!

Thank you for the detailed comparison, I was already heading to the 38 and this finally convinced me. Since last year only, I started to wear smaller watches, Khahi Field 38mm, Big Crown Cervo Volante 38mm and a bit larger because diving watch the Yema Superman 39mm: wearing watches correctly sized for my wrist is finally much more enjoyable everyday, and even the speedmaster reduced at 38mm is now back on my wrist after being left appart in the box for years

I have the 41mm AquaTerra in the lighter blue dial with horizontal pattern. It’s sort of a “steel blue” color. The 41mm wears nicely on my 8 inch wrist. Fantastic watch and one of my favorites!

Love the way it sits on my wrist. Extremely comfortable and accurate. Easy to wear with dress shirts due to its low height. You will not have any regrets. @@ganbatte1260

I have the 41 in black with the Omega strap/deployment clasp. It looks fantastic and is very light. This is my travel watch so the one hour jump time adjustment is wonderful. With my 7.5 inch wrist it is the perfect size for me. I also have the 8800 in a Sea Master 300m. Great watch but prefer the 8900 for time adjustment.

I have the 41 mm small seconds it is quite chunky and heavy for the style of watch .. I’m 6’3 and 7.5 but tend to prefer smaller watches these days so it would be 38 mm if I were to buy again . Nonetheless I do like it but had to take it off the bracelet and pair it with a padded leather to really enjoy it had a clunky Vibe on bracelet and felt a little heavy for my tastes I think the small seconds is around 164 grams

I've got 38. Worn a 41 that my friend has. The 38mm Aqua Terra case for me is a great fit whereas the 41mm is just too big. However, the rubber strap is a little slim and would have preferred 20mm instead of 19mm. I prefer it on the bracelet as more presence. On my 6.5 the 38 is preferable but I think 39 would have allowed wider lugs.

Very good review. I love the details and comparison with previous generations. not often tackled. Worth pointing out that the 8900 mechanism is doubled barrelled for extra precision in spring balancing, rather then using it for reserve. One of the best three hander movements ever made. In terms of size, i have a smallish 6.7" wrist but the 41mm is the only one. The short lug to lug is great and it looks great on the wrist. The 38mm to me looks too small and doesnt have the same presense.

Great comparison - the Aqua Terra range of watches really stand out to me. The green dial would be my preference, though I agree it seems Omega could offer it in the smaller case size. I do tend to wear larger watches, at 42mm and 44mm, but feel a 38mm would make a great daily watch.

Got to try the new 38mm yesterday at the omega boutique at the Trafford centre in blue and green and they were the first they had received since the release last year. They were very nice and fit perfectly on my wrist but we're just to shiny to be an everyday watch. I prefer the IWC Mark XX on bracket with a blue dial

I decided on the 41mm for two reasons, the more accurate 8900 double barrel movement and the fact most of my watches are between 40 to 42mm. The 38mm felt more balanced but for the same price the movement did it for me.

    Hi,
The Aqua Terra would be my choice if I could only own one luxury watch.
However, I don’t like the polished centre links of the bracelet. I would prefer a fully brushed one. I’ve got a 18.5cm wrist which is about 54mm broad. So, I could wear both sizes quite well.
I like the smaller size a bit better because it looks even better on my wrist. But I wanted the calibre 8900 because of its jumping hour hand. And I would like to wear the watch on a leather or rubber strap as well. But 19mm isn’t an ideal strap size. And therefore I would pick the 41mm on the Omega rubber strap with an additional premium leather strap as well.
    Best regards,
    Claus

I bought the blue dial in 2023 for $6200. I found it top heavy, no micro adjustments poor lume crown hard to work with, and I changed the strap to a Artem sailcloth which made it lighter. I then got the call from AD for Rolex submariner Starbucks and that watch did not have any of those issues my Omega had.

Hi, thanks for the review! Now they do the green in 38mm 🎉
One question - have you considered the 41mm with small seconds - the dial definitely does not seem big on my 16.5 inch wrist. Yes, the physical size is same as 41mm central second hand but the dial is absolutely fine with the visually smaller central s3ction of the dial and the small seconds dial. Thanks!

I disagree. I think the 8800 is the better movement and I've owned both. The 8800 is thinner and the quick set date is FAR superior to the jump hour hand. The 5 hour difference in power reserve would never be noticed in real life.

I do wonder why Omega’s product ranges are so complex and seemingly overlapping. It strikes me that in this case (pardon the pun) a 39.5mm diameter model in all the dial colours would easily substitute for both 38mm and 41mm models, which in turn would be more efficient and profitable for Omega (these are after all about twice the SRP of a BB, so far from vfm anyway), as well as giving purchasers the availability they desire. Win-win.
Or am I missing something? 🤔

Does the 38 sit better on your wrist than the 41? Yes. But, we’re talking about A vs. A-, not some huge aesthetic disparity.
In contrast, I cannot get past the significant differences in specs of the 41 vs. the 38. All AT’s strike me as WAY overpriced at MSRP. But to price the mechanically inferior 38 the same as the 41 borders on unconscionable.

It seems that all the Watch brand prices have been rising frequently and regularly. At the moment Tudor seem to be then only brand that are offering real bang for your buck. Soon a Rolex Sub will be costing 10k retail. I am after a chronograph. I have my name on the Tudor panda white dial version. It’s been at least 1 year and a half since I done this. Not owned a Tudor before and thought with my spend history I would get this far quicker, considering I have purchased 3 Rolex models retail with the AD. But it seems that they don’t get many at all. Anyway looking at the omega speed master sapphire sandwich chronograph. I remember when you could pick one of these up for £3000. They are now retail over £7000. The older version came with better box and accessories. I think I prefer the one that was discontinued more. I suppose as it’s an iconic model that’s why the price has shot up.

I tried an Aqua Terra at the AD I was disappointed, too shiny or blingy in the flesh.

38 all day long. For a three hander to be over 39mm, it has to seriously justify the size with thoughtful design (so neither Omega or Rolex). Dive watches, chronos, yes - they justify their size, but a simple >40mm three hander will wear far bigger than even a 42mm diver/chrono. Ie gawping. Big difference between what sells to blokes in a jewellers (always bigger) and what is a good design proportion. I'm 6'2, 85Kg, 18cm wrists and wouldn't go near a DJ41 with a barge pole! 36 all day. Classic. I'd say 34 is massive for most women (my wife's 31s wear similar to my 38s...), unless they wear it like a bangle...

Take your build and height into consideration. The 38 looks perfectly sized for you. I’m 6’3” and 15 odd stone and, say, my 41 Datejust fits me perfectly and looks proportional in a full length mirror. It’s weird how they go 38 then 41 almost in a his and hers offering. Already the red dial 38 is in high artificial demand. Omega here doing a Rolex. Release in reduced numbers then discontinue to hype secondary prices and get interest going in the brand. As a business model this sucks. I was asked if I’d like to be put on a waiting list, yes for an Omega, and I left the shop laughing in their face. Omega will never give you the same feel as Rolex but makes for a perfect daily beater that you don’t care if it gets scratched up so much. As for expression of interest Omega can do one. Even Tudor trying this bull for selected models. The watch game is a joke these days.

Plus - no bracelet adjustment. That’s a deal breaker. Simple as that. Been there done that. Unless you like them permanently loose flopping about. Shudder.

AT fantastic good looking watch, but you have one already the perfect watch 39 mm and 11 mm thick. You pay more for AT than Seamaster 300, some will say Seamaster 300 give more value for the money. I have large issue with Omega thickness. Other watch brands can make it under 12 mm thick automatics watches. AT is for me a dress watch and should not be thick. for you 38 is good looking for me 17,5 it to small and 41 AT is to present for a dress watch. AT is not a complicated watch. Time and date, but 13 mm thick is a joke for 41mm. If they made the 39 mm with under 12 mm i will be there
