Looking forward to viewer thoughts about the impressive *2400+ piece LEGO set* that's in the video! Sorry about the blank screen at the end; obviously there's no need to watch it or focus on it! How about that *diner?!*
I like the way the inconsistency complements the age of the building. I suppose you could use these teal blocks for older styles. I dont know, i would hate to lpse the color again but im sure the advantages are there.
I think they said in an interview that they switched the minifigure heads away from the classic smiley face because ten years ago the torso and leg prints were simple enough for classic smiley faces. Now in this year, torso and leg prints are more detailed and more complex that classic smiley faces just didn't match in terms of density of detail.
Games and Memes! Yep watch the LEGO interview they did with him....he loves angles...he’s the one all the other designers go to for help when designing a set with angles
He's brilliant, have watched a couple of presentations he's given on the development of this set. And love how he's broken the mold with a seamless external transition between 1st and second floors (2nd and 3rd for the Americans)
I really appreciate how more recent LEGO sets are incoperating many building techniques that you would more associate with a MOC. It makes the official sets look more authentic and enjoyable to build for the fans! This set is a prime example!
As a huge Elvis Presley fan this is a must get! The recording studio reminds me of Sun Studio’s and the inclusion of his pink Cadillac is just perfect!
I'm a little hesitant to embrace the abandonment of the standard smiley face for the characters of the modular building series. However I guess it goes hand in hand with the era change in this latest modular, so I think it will grow on me. Ironically even though it's not by design, I think the fact that there are different shades of teal, serve realism in this case as dirt is always a factor in anything exposed to the elements continuously.
About the difference in shades of teal/turquoise bricks: You could always get 2 sets and fix the wrong colors. As for me personally, I actually like the difference in color and think it gives older buildings some added character. White bricks that have aged and become more of an off-white are actually pretty good too. You just have to know how to appreciate them. :)
I like the teal discoloration on some of the bricks because it gives the building a real look or like a brick wall where not all the bricks are the same shade...
i personally enjoy this set very much. I welcome the new style and era and even though it is sad to see the classic smiley go from this line I enjoy the new prints and faces. my only complaint about this set is the lack of a bin at the back of the diner, but even that isnt much of a big deal. over all a great set and i hope they make more sets in this era of building.
The slight variation in teal bricks is a plus here, Jang. Think of bricks in any city wall. They almost always have slight, or even major, differences in hue. The wall ends up looking more realistic. i have some slightly yellowed white bricks in my Lego town walls that look great among their shiny new white brothers.
No, if you really look at brick or concrete, you can see variations in the color and grain from the time period and regions where the materials came from.
With this set, the LEGO design team nailed the Streamline Moderne architectural style of the 1930s and 1940s (e.g.: rounded edges, glass brick walls, porthole windows, etc.) and, at the same time, captured the look and feel of America in the 1950s (e.g.: jukebox, soda fountain, etc.)! Some of these buildings still stand today, and yes, unfortunately engulfed by other less sophisticated styles around them. Congratulations on another excellent review!
Honestly l like the slightly lighter shade of teal bricks being there. It gives the building character, like it’s been around for a while. Maybe it isn’t intentional, but l do like it
You can tell this was a real labor of love for the designer. These types of sets are out of my price range, but I sure do appreciate and enjoy what Lego has done here.
Great set definitely gonna pick it up some time this year and I always swap out the classic smiley face for other faces so I don't care about them not using them
As i was watching this I kept feeling like I was remembering something and then I realised this whole build is like back to the future 1)The Diner 2) The many fight scenes represented by the boxing rings 3) The rock and roll studio representing the bit where Marty plays Johnny B Goode I don’t know just thought about it...
I'm a little mad the designers didn't use the classic plain smile for continuation's sake, but I'm not complaining about the choice of faces. If I wanted non-plain faces for this Modular Buildings set, they'd definitely be the ones they chose. Also, in retrospect, ten sets from the 1930s-40s seems like a good number to retire the era at, and I can't wait for the second 1950s-60s set if they decide to turn this into a pattern.
I hope they'll do the next 10 as 50s-60s then 70s-80s and so on, until they reach the present day so if people get a few they can set it up like a timeline starting in the 20s and gradually getting to the present day.
For this specific application i enjoy that the pieces are less quality controlled because its a very retro style of building so you could say the building is quite old and has faded the paint a little as things got older but the owner tries to keep it as nice looking and clean as he can
Such an iconic build for anyone in North America! Get a great Grease or Back to the Future vibe from this set. Park the DeLorean out front and it's perfect!
I'm so glad they have brought back Turquoise-Teal with the introduction of this set,I have a lot of good memories of that color from way back in the day.
Is it just me or does anyone else think this looks really bad when placed into the modular street. It doesn't fit with the old style aesthetic of all of the previous modular sets. Its just toooo colourful but on its own its an amazing set
Just found this channel. You do really great work here, Jang. The one man production level for these reviews is truly awesome and inspiring. As long as you keep making these, i'll watch 'em! Lego Love!
I like when Lego pulls little references and I loved this reference with the King of Rock(especially that Cadillac lookalike). 50's architecture is good architecture in my book.
I do not like leaving the base plate so empty on the back. the brick bank had used all space on the baseplate except for the sidewalk in front of the building. ugghh
I think this set fits in reasonably well with the other modulars in your city, it didn't look as bad as I thought it was going to be. Frankly it works as a stand alone model on display.
rare awesome aqua & hot pink friends colors, plus bubblegum (light pink) last seen in paradisa classics, on trim & vehicle. not expecting a new restaurant after 2014's parisian restaurant (better design with unique back deck for dining), more expecting a modular police station or parking garage, or some type of building not existing so far in modulars format. 2018's new building definitely will be looking cool in my line of modulars when i get them all put together this year...
I just pulled the trigger on it. Been looking at this set for wks. I went with Amazon just cause I can't wait to play with it now that I finally decided to get it. ; )
Regarding the style of the modulars shifting to a new era: that would make a lot of sense since this is the first building after a whole decade. So yes, it would not be at all surprising if the next 9 modulars are done in a style within the same era as this diner.
Looking forward to viewer thoughts about the impressive *2400+ piece LEGO set* that's in the video!
Sorry about the blank screen at the end; obviously there's no need to watch it or focus on it! How about that *diner?!*
JANGBRiCKS When will the your next City Update come out?
I think this one is the best one even if the figures don't come with the classic smiley
I like the way the inconsistency complements the age of the building. I suppose you could use these teal blocks for older styles. I dont know, i would hate to lpse the color again but im sure the advantages are there.
Nice video I've been subscribed since since 30k on my old tablet now I'm on my new one. Keep up the videos.
It looks so good i want that set
I think they said in an interview that they switched the minifigure heads away from the classic smiley face because ten years ago the torso and leg prints were simple enough for classic smiley faces. Now in this year, torso and leg prints are more detailed and more complex that classic smiley faces just didn't match in terms of density of detail.
Zach Cheung hate those faces
it should still be smiley
it is so weird whit a town full of smiley face guys
and then suddenly bam
weird face guys
Wow I was wondering that
Jørgen Karlsen Personally I hated the smileys. They were useless if you're making a Lego city.
The singer dude looks like Dareth from Ninjago
Samurai-Z-Fire. I agree
I feel like the different shade makes the build look more natural like old paint almost
6 wide 2 passengers... Sign me up
I love this! I was told that the designer loved geometry and math and thats pretty clear here, the techniques are incredible and it works all so well!
Jus bought it ! So happy!!!
I really appreciate how more recent LEGO sets are incoperating many building techniques that you would more associate with a MOC. It makes the official sets look more authentic and enjoyable to build for the fans! This set is a prime example!
What a charming piece of art. I wish I could afford it.
Same
Thanks for the 50's music in the background!
You could stack the old flowers
As a huge Elvis Presley fan this is a must get! The recording studio reminds me of Sun Studio’s and the inclusion of his pink Cadillac is just perfect!
Aren't the flower stems used by the old bride fig?
There is so much unused space at the back! they could've at least add a dumpster build back there
i love the 1960 style
Idk seems like it should have been a corner build. Doesn't quite feel right having a wall jammed up against that open staircase :/
Huge Nerd you can make a corner building if you want
As a fan of the 50’s, I’m gonna enjoy this set.
I really wish they stayed with the classic smile in these sets, I would love more of them.
I want to see some more different form of expert level modular buildings. Add some European, Latin America, and Asian urban buildings!
Elvis impression 10/10 😆
Another great set by lego !!!!
I think the singer's outfit can strongly help to reproduce the Chuck Berry's band seen in Back to the Future !
That would be a great addition to your city display.
Lego designers are just amazing!! And they continue challenging themselves - respect!
I was blown away by how they created the spiral cast iron stairway. The set as a whole looks mesmerizing.
I like that car! Hope they'll release something similar independently for CITY.

I was rather upset when the Classic smiley heads did not appear in this set and thought it was a punch in the face by this designer to AFOL's
I was missing your red LEGO-arrow
Agreed. #bringbacktheJANGpointer
7:05 We have bacon, we have bacon!!!
Now all we need is tiny handheld tacos & i'll be happy with all the food choices they've made.
#WeWantLegoTacos
How does he make these look so good?
*mine always have smudges and pieces of hair stuck between the bricks*
I always love the huge modular set reviews, there's so much to cover and it feels so...fulfilling.
22:12 I spy an awesome Saitama minifig :D
You used a bit of my name
Okay.
I love the different teal tones, makes it look like an actual used worn building
same
could be nice for the set, but bad for when you order pieces for your own creations and they come in 3 different shades
The hype is teal ! =D

HEY MCFLY
Exactly! :D
Why don't you make like a tree, and get out of here!
Bobbicorn HELLO MCFLY?!?! ANYONE IN THERE?!?
i personally enjoy this set very much. this is an amazing modular building
its good looking,is a good size, has nice furniture and...
it has bacon.
definetly buying this

yeah but then there dirty aren't they?
No, if you really look at brick or concrete, you can see variations in the color and grain from the time period and regions where the materials came from.
@@johnnations5932 sorry i think i prefer nice new white bricks.
Best modular yet in my opinion
i remember watching this and saying hmm, i dont realy like it, but look where we are now, i got this set for my birthday and its one of my favourites
Perfect for my Dolorean ^^
*Delorean. Plus, this is 50’s and works better with older Cadillacs, Chryslers, Fords, and other 50’s American cars. The Delorean came out in 1982.
Back to the Future reference :p
I seem to get back to the future vibes from this set
Cheatcode Gaming hello, anybody home? Think mcfly think!
It's really good, all it need is two dog houses inside with two robotic dogs.
kingsman?
And a meat grinder
Just like kingsman the golden circle
haha kingsman
"That dude's hair" is perfect to build a Dr. Gonzo!

Good job really enjoyed it!!

Elvis is in the set with his cool car
Great set definitely gonna pick it up some time this year and I always swap out the classic smiley face for other faces so I don't care about them not using them

1)The Diner
2) The many fight scenes represented by the boxing rings
3) The rock and roll studio representing the bit where Marty plays Johnny B Goode
I don’t know just thought about it...
I was a little bit sceptical about buying this set, but now I definitly want it! Thanks for the review!😁
Lego keeps impressing me!
Wait, the Diner is called Jim's and it has a Gym above it.....
As someone who has a recording studio in my backyard, I appreciate the inclusion of a small one in this set
I'm a little mad the designers didn't use the classic plain smile for continuation's sake, but I'm not complaining about the choice of faces. If I wanted non-plain faces for this Modular Buildings set, they'd definitely be the ones they chose.

Such an iconic build for anyone in North America! Get a great Grease or Back to the Future vibe from this set. Park the DeLorean out front and it's perfect!
This one could be my favorite building of all time
I'm so glad they have brought back Turquoise-Teal with the introduction of this set,I have a lot of good memories of that color from way back in the day.
What Lego doesn't tell you is that the recording studio is actually the control center to launch the missile on the roof. ;)
My God this set is amazing
I think the boxer is supposed to represent Kylo Ren.
Awesome set, awesome review. Thanks JANG, love your eye for detail :)
Is it just me or does anyone else think this looks really bad when placed into the modular street. It doesn't fit with the old style aesthetic of all of the previous modular sets. Its just toooo colourful but on its own its an amazing set
I love the style so much, all the curves and vibrant contrasting colours look amazing!!!
Amazing care and time put into this review Jang! God bless man!
Haha on a totally different topic. Love that Saitama and crabman moc minifigure!!
Funny how the front of the teal building looks like a jukebox
Eric Smolich. Probably ment to be
My respects, JANG, for offering us a review of this beautiful Lego set so early! I thought we would have to wait another week or so!
They should do lego sets through the decades, 20s,30s,40,ect. That would be awsome, sorry i love History
Steven Munson they should like a theater tap dancing set
The second and third floor is ....
Um that's tan
Come on you were thinking it too
This is easily my favorite Lego set ever.
I think that the side with the staircase looks really good. This could even be used as a corner modular in a LEGO city
19:49 looks like homers car
SO CLOSE TO 900K JANG KEEP IT UP :D
I wish they had stayed with the modular set tradition of just the classic smiley faces. Other than that, this set ROCKS!
I’m excited for this new “Art Decco” era of Architecture! Who’s with me?
Yay, teal is back! Nostalgic colour from the life on mars aliens :) Also, you could stack the old flower stem pieces as well.
Hello, old friend.
Just found this channel. You do really great work here, Jang. The one man production level for these reviews is truly awesome and inspiring. As long as you keep making these, i'll watch 'em! Lego Love!
Even though the teal usually would look weird, on this it gives the building a nice, slightly worn appearance.
the re-released color is quite a-teal-ling
I like when Lego pulls little references and I loved this reference with the King of Rock(especially that Cadillac lookalike). 50's architecture is good architecture in my book.
I do not like leaving the base plate so empty on the back. the brick bank had used all space on the baseplate except for the sidewalk in front of the building. ugghh
Kristian Myhre-Bjerkenes not at all, look at the parissian restaurant or the detectives office, thats why i love the brick bank sooooo much
I think this set fits in reasonably well with the other modulars in your city, it didn't look as bad as I thought it was going to be. Frankly it works as a stand alone model on display.
Anyone else think that the boxer looks like Ron Burgundy from anchorman
I've order this and this will be my first modular. I'm really excited. I will make funny stop motion using this building
Have fun! :) The first Modular's always the best. XD
Did anyone else catch the custom One Punch Man at 22:13? Haha! That’s awesome!

How was your real bricks? I lucked out with mine but just got it in Oct.of18

The set looks great and I welcome the non-smiley faces. I never liked them and felt they were the weakest part of the whole modular buildings line.
I absolutely love this mint-green colouring!
TEAAALLLLLLL
I just pulled the trigger on it. Been looking at this set for wks. I went with Amazon just cause I can't wait to play with it now that I finally decided to get it. ; )
I love the background music😆
You should use your mini-Jang cam for the modular building interiors!
This has been on my wish list for over a year - this Christmas as a present for myself for SURE!
