As noted by many commenters, I missed that you can actually pull up the jail cell door with a little bit of wall around it and the floor beneath it, exposing the little tunnel (random gray slopes).
What are everyone's thoughts on this 2,900+ piece, ~6 hour build?
Yeah it's a cool feature. I'd love to know Jang, what are your thoughts on them including a 40's or 50's style Police car like a Studebaker? It would have bumped up the price and maybe had no relevance to the 'story' of the set but I think it would have been a fantastic inclusion.
This is an awesome looking set with so much detail. I think I'll try and get it in a setup with the Book store and the Assembly Square. I don't have room for a big city layout, so this is perfect to put up on a shelf and create a single layer wide diorama.
Do you know what the golden egg under the stairs is supposed to be?
I agree that it might not be as striking as some of the others but I personally found the build to be more enjoyable than some of the previous modulars.
Completely agree it needs another figure or two, but for me it’s missing A COP CAR! A classic, era appropriate police car would be the icing on the cake for me!
I feel like putting a big batsignal on the roof of this set
That and hang the batwing set off the ceiling somewhere nearby!
Great idea
Set 77903 might fit perfectly on top!
I had the same thought!
Lol
Something I'm hoping for from the modular line is a hospital. The city hospitals are all too small with simpler builds meant more for kids. I'm hoping the modular line will put out a proper hospital with a large interior, maybe even a corner structure with an ambulance included. I think I speak for a lot of adult fans when I say that a well built hospital would be greatly appreciated.
I agree with what you say, but I quite like the less flashy modulars to frame the more detailed ones. I think it’s appropriate for such a civic building that does not need ceremony, but a couple more small touches would have been nice. As always you are on the mark with your comments about the mean minifigure count at this price point though.
The first thing I thought when I saw the pictures was that we should of gotten at least 3 police officers and 3 civilians. That would have worked out better as you had more option for choosing who could be the criminal.
The Police Station really comes alive when put with the bookshop, with the purple donut shop alongside the blue townhouse. Yes, on its own, the police station can come off as simple. But when its in a row of buildings, it really shines!
16:38 I know you don’t trust the guy, but I’m keeping my eye on that lady. She looks pretty two-faced to me.
15:05 Didn't you notice the reference to the detective's office modular? The cookies! They are evidence because they are illegal! 😀 Since there aren't any cash in the evidence locker I suppose the advertised soap'n'suds haven't had their money laundering scheme found out yet. 😛
Every single review I’ve seen of this set on UA-cam did not say that the Soap and Suds sign are printed pieces. And this is one of the reasons why I look forward to your detailed reviews. Love the details, Jang, and you’ve set the bar high once again.
The architecture is kind of giving me Batman Resident evil vibes
I personally put the batsignal on top of the police station: I thought that fit really well.
yuh looks like gcpd
Like the RPD from resident evil 2?
I don’t collect these city buildings but I really appreciate the designer making the outside completely the same color all the way around!
Yess that is really neat
I like how these buildings look, but don't have the space
The tiles and plates that mark each floor aren't the same colour as the walls though which I think is a real shame, especially on the main building on which the white and grey really stick out.
This looks pretty cool. I appreciate how Jang puts what he thinks in the title, so you don't have to watch the whole video if you don't want to.
At first I was worried when it was leaked it'd be a Police Station but ended up being pleasantly surprised
I noticed many people make it Post office :D
@@Lordodragonss with a jail for porch pirates
I’m fine with it. It goes with well with the fire station and detectives office. I think it’s disappointing we don’t have a 50s style police car in this set but it’s already quite an expensive one in the first place so I understand the exclusion. Perhaps could have included another figure too as we could then have had 3 police officers and 3 citizens.
I'd say the lack of soul on the main build, with regards to its shape, isn't a bad thing. My thinking is: as a police station it represents authority, and for it to be anything but stern and serious would go against the inherit property of the building.
Honestly I've seen the type of police stations that are the real world requivalents to this one, they're actually kinda pretty, I think this is a good lego-ification of one, They still stand out, so you know they're there, which I'm assuming is by design.
not disagreeing with your thoughts, but I can understand the design.
My thoughts exactly. I actually find it ironic since Jang said it had no soul in the video, as that’s what I thought he would have preferred in the design given it’s a police station.
I think the story that went into this set is amazing
Jang, I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your content. I appreciate that you only review sets that are interesting to you, not everything, and not just because it’s the biggest, most expensive set. I also like that your reviews are measured, thorough, and candid. You have a fairly extensive vocabulary, and use a variety of adjectives to describe your viewpoint. I also like that your city is not just filled with sets that Lego sells, you use your own imagination and creativity. (The aquarium build is superb!). Most of all, I admire your professionalism, and that you come across as a genuine Lego enthusiast, basically someone I would want to hang out with to geek out over Legos. (No, this post is not sponsored, all opinions are my own 😉)
Jang is the pearl golden standard for any LEGO content!
This modular is impeccable to me, firstly from the minifigs police uniforms (traditional blue, so pretty) but also because it tells a complete story! Having a guy steal a donut to sell newspapers, to getting caught, to digging himself a tunnel to escape. So creative of Lego!
I aqm from both Cincinnati and Detroit (lived both equally), and these types of buildings are everywhere in older parts of towns! I mean like this exact architecture and style, down to the brick styles and pillars! I love seeing these style buildings from LEGO. Sure it's not the most exciting style ever, but it is a style of architecture, and it speaks to us through reality, in minifig form! It's simple, and clean, and it just fits, I LOVE IT! One of my favorite Modulars!
I also spent 6 hours on this build, in interims of 2 hours each of 3 evenings!
"Maybe it's the hat. Feel like someone with that hat listens to music alot"
Just blame the hat!
“Angry cat in a hat noises”
no the stick
Sadly I have a flat cap, therefore I am a donut thief,😔
I don’t appreciate your blatant hatist remarks! Lol jk
I love the extra pieces that come with sets. I collect them and organize them in little trays. I have thousands of 1x1 tiles of all shapes and sizes, technic pins, minifig accessories, speed champions wheels, and of course... helmet visors. The extra parts always bring me joy at the end of completing a set, seeing the added value I get beyond the set itself.
Nice to see this ivy technique, i hope LEGO will do this more often in the future :)
The level of detail of Lego’s module buildings gets better with each year, you can tell the designers but a lot of care and effort into their designs.
Really? Sure the exterior is nice but the interior is lacking, which has been a trend since the Corner Garage.
There is a reference In the soap and suds banner, the slogan is “cleans it all” (even money lol)
Lol that’s very similar to the easter egg in the brick bank were ther literally put the money through the laundry to reach the vault 😂
The “side buildings” are kind of too small in my taste but it is a good modular in my opinion.
Would you have prefered the middle building to be narrower?
@@puppetguy8726 I've seen an extension of extra 16 studs that gives the police building a bit more grandiose look, as well as some well needed real estate for both side buildings. It's a cool idea and a bit less cramped overall.
@@puppetguy8726 Maybe one bigger side building would have been enough. This feels almost like two half-buildings.
They are not unrealistic though. Comically narrow buildings like that can be found in towns all around Europe.
@@puppetguy8726 I wish they made a kind of alleyway with those spare 5 studs in the back and maybe charged 10 dollars more. Would be a nice touch
Oooh nice.... Im making a room just for LEGO cause i got inspired by you :D
Start a lego channel!
yea
@@dudster_ yeah, i could.... I HAVE 6 FULL BOXES OF 'EM
I own most of the modular buildings and I would put this one in the top 3 with Green Grocer and Town Hall. I loved the abundant amounts of classy micro-builds inside. My 6yo loves to play with them - especially the escape tunnel and keeps saying "donut thief still hungry" at random times :) For years we have been asking for more interior AND bigger buildings and I feel like Lego delivered.
I feel like this would partner perfectly with the daily bugle. Even use one of the newspapers from that on the newsstand.
It is my birthday today and my parents got this for me so I went to janbrick’s channel because I can trust him. I wish it came with a police car, it would be cool to so an old 60s looking police car
The point about having to always 'look down' into modulars is actually a very good point. Would be cool if they were more accessible. A bit like the bookshop bedroom.
I’m still a teen and don’t get new lego sets for a long time and I truly try to watch reviews, even if I won’t ever get the set, because Jang is amazing at review and giving a good description and opinion about a set. Keep up the good work Jang.
This is a pretty cool set. I like it. And by the way, the dude with the funny hat and the red shirt IS actually the donut thief ; LEGO explains the whole story around this set in the designer video.. it's quite interesting actually.
Hmmn, curious, why’d they make the record player the wrong way around...
Hopefully one can fix it
There is no rule that LEGO records must play clockwise like the real ones... Maybe they all play counterclockwise.
Real reason is probably aesthetics, the record stack looks better against the wall. But of course you can easily rebuild it to be realistic.
Clearly the donut thief's fall to evil was due to playing records in reverse.
It’s probably design limitations.
The fact that this modular is very rectangular and possesses a bit less flair is why it’s my favorite modular build yet. 👌
I love the modular buildings collection, I’m trying to buy the Palace Cinema, Brick Bank and Police Station this year :D
This will be my first 'cohesive' modular so I really like the design. By that I mean, the main structure has multiple floors that are part of the same theme, not like a recording studio on top of a gym on top of a diner. Nothing wrong with having all the floors doing different things but I thought Lego had moved on since the Brick Bank was the last time they did one theme, multiple floors.
The modular before this, the Bookshop, is sort of like that too, even though it's split in two smaller buildings.
A little lacking in soul is what I want from sets like this, I really don’t care for the overly cartoonish or silly builds. I honestly like realism
I love the small detail of the hidden spoon amd how the hole actually really exists to the outside.
That casual wipe to the newsstand was a gem I was not ready for
I’m hoping to get this set, I got assembly square at Christmas
Ur lucky
Me too,i hope i get this one for my birthday
I’d ask for the Diner. The Diner’s BEAUTIFUL.
You are now officially infected with the Modular building virus! Welcome to the club ;-)
I got bookshop last year
I put bat-signal on the roof with Jim Gordon awaiting the Dark Knight
That is beautiful
🔥
This was my first LEGO modular building and I'm glad I tried one out. I enjoyed all the different building techniques and pieces I've personally haven't seen before. Love the printed billboard which was a surprise that I believe relates to the laundry mat that comes with the modular bank. This just feels well done for me.
Man! I think its so nice to have just a propper rewiewer on UA-cam. I mean you handle it in such a professional way, you know. Like there is no “please like and subcribe.” Its just a good rewiew that give a great point of wiew on a set! Please keep up the good work man :D
I think this is one of the better modulars we’ve gotten in recent years! I love all the “story” in this one with the tunnel and hoke under the bed in the apartment. I also really like how the sides are a lot more finished on this one. Great review Jang!
even Lego men fall victim to the all in one turntable
No matter who uploads first: I’ll always watch JANG’s review first and base a lot of my opinions ons his nuanced thoughts!
i really loved building this set. The story developing in it also great. The winking policechef , porbably to get a free cup of coffee at the donutshop, this combined with the donut seller's huge smile, is so much fun to see, knowing the donutthief will use this moment to hit and run from above.. i do love they way the stairs are build. Such a clever way. It tought me a lot. Thank you for sharing this review again.
I can definitely see where you are coming from with it being square, but a lot of old real life buildings are square. I love this set! Thanks for showing it off!!!
This set looks amazing.
I just completed this, and I think this is one of the most underrated sets. I think this is one of the best. I did not expect that, having looked at foto's earlier. This truly is a BUILDING.
Great review! I really appreciate how you share your opinions, while giving details and facts for us to draw our own conclusions. Super entertaining and informative content. 😁
I think the two small buildings on the side are what make this modular really work. That layering technique looks so good next to my Bookshop and Detective's Office. Had it been once big boxy building (like Town Hall), I think it would have failed. Plus the lavender and sand green help offset the drab tan in the middle. I really enjoyed building this modular, and aesthetically, it looks great next to the other buildings imo.
If i were starting a lego city, this would be a definite consideration that can be seen from all sides before other buildings go up.
I just love the level of sarcasm at the start.
The angle that you view it at makes you feel like a god looking down on his people
I just got this set and built it to completion and I completely agree with Jang’s analysis of its design, he gave praises to all the things that I loved about its build.
Great review. Hoping to begin building mine later. The style reminds me of some of the classic modulars in a good way. This is a return to form after the small bookshop last year!
Not the best era, this is why as an adult fan of lego, I watch jang 😊
Just finished this 2 days ago and had a blast. The 6 SNOT-builds for the corners were super satisfying to put together!
I know this was the modular last year, but I’m still gonna comment: I personally love this set. Lego has done many City police stations, but this is the first modular one! And personally, I’m more interested in a more ‘formal’ police station instead of a modern facade.
The door of the prison cell is very easily removed for a look at the escape tunnel
I so glad all four sides are camera friendly. I would keep it as a corner building only because the view of the Soap And Suds ad can't be seen properly if lined up between two other buildings.
I love the story they've made for the set, great review!!
Your channel has been my happy place for so long. Thank you so much for all you do. :)
I think that it looks fantastic! Shows that Lego still is capable of designing nice building.
I really like your shirt, Jang. The review is awesome too, of course. 😊
The older municipal building style makes it identifiable as a police station. Otherwise you're just slapping a sign on the facade that says POLICE
Another great video review, thank you for continued LEGO videos. I must, however, point out that your observation of this being a very rectangular building should be taken as a compliment to the design as most government buildings are traditional, classical, rectangles.
Love your videos Jang!!! Always super high quality and insightful. Thank you
I've been waiting for this review since the announcement of the set 🤩
I love this building! I'm going into the Police Force pretty soon so I definitely need to grab this one!
Jang, you need to cyberpunkify this set!
I agree Jang, those stairs look amazing.
Another version to try is if you build this set on the larger grey baseplate and bricks and pieces build garage bays on both sides. In the back, add a courthouse and a small DMV shop.
The title says it all for me and you explained yourself perfectly.
From a rational point of view, this set is great, I adore its techniques and all those details: modular building designers are some of the most talented people around and it shows!!
However, and this has been going on since Jamie Berard was no longer the main designer for this line, recent modulars have been lacking in soul, all of them, to me. I may be wearing nostalgia goggles, but I remember clearly how stoked I was by just seeing pictures of Café Corner, Green Grocer especially and the others. To me, all of the old ones looked as major milestones in the "Lego histroy book".
These new ones? While being great modulars, they no longer have that charm the line used to have: they're all "just another modular" and that's why I haven't got a new one since Assembly Square, which is sad.
Anyway, I'm sure many of us will get it and enjoy it and that's more than enough for me. This line wasn't made by and for the same people and that's its greatest strength!!
One of thing i like on this set Is that hidden Story with "donut Thief" And how Is this set inspired by 70s-90s police shows like professionals
I just got this set for me and my friend to put together. We are so excited
This is a lovely looking set and a great review, thanks Jang
I like that new slope piece. I think it would go well in a skatepark build
I personally feel that having something a bit more bland and blocky like this is actually really good to have in a city, and the finer details and pure quality of it are just so good that even just on it's own I kinda love it, it just feels down to earth in a way I rarely see. Do feel they should have had at minimum two more figures though.
Bit of a Meta joke about the theif creating the news so he can sell it
Great video, it has a big story behind it like the soap and suds being a reference from Brick Bank.
I love building new sets and always keeping a look out for new pieces
I think this is a great set! I love the details and the story they made within the set :) Also I think its fair that its a bit soulless since its a police station :)
Dang, these modulars are all just so cool. It's hard to decide which one to fit in the budget. I'm stuck between this one and Assembly Square. Thanks for the breakdown!
I think it is a nice set, but I always get tempted by the modulars. Completely agree that it could use a couple more minifigs. Was very surprised to see it only have 5.
It's smaller on the outside!
Well that's a first.
-Clara & The Doctor
I am surprised that there was no controversy when LEGO announced this set!
@@plasmawarper5837 peoples political opinions including acab
I just got this set, and it took me 2 days to build. Love the style, and really got It for the donut shop
Love the size of this one, mine shipped from lego yesterday :)
I think LEGO should make a modular hospital next. That would be really useful
This^ Maybe Hospital/Crematorium for darker vibe. 😱
I like the idea of this being on the same street as the Deceive’s Office, given the rivalry we often see between private detectives and the official police in media.
I just realised that the female cop is actually the Chief Inspector due to her tie and that Square multi coloured thing on the side of her jacket
Cool
But on the set thats how she is
Epic build Jang!
I'd love a modular retrospective video where you look back at the recent ones and think about which ones did things well
Cheers for the review jang, il just keep my assembly square over this
Very nice Lego set, love the story, love the colors, the building style would be nice to get more people but other than that I would buy it
I really enjoyed watching this video Jang
Been waiting for this !
Just got this set and I love your vids brother ❤
A nice upgrade to this set is to use the vintage police hat/blonde female hair combo from the build-a-minifig bin at lego stores on the captain. unlike the others, this hat/hair has the little gold oak leaves on it; great for denoting her superior position
Those plants with the green cog pieces are wonderful.
