I love the necron lore but it simply doesn't translate to the tabletop rules at all.
The necrons before the great sleep were so advanced technology wise that the old ones created races specifically to fight them. Krorcs for example, intelligent and stronger than current orcs, yet necrons have very little chance against orcs.
The problem stems from a low amount of attacks per model, and little to no AP in the whole index, making every attack like hitting with pillows or rubber bullets. Tie that in with elite level point costs for models that are barely better than astra militarum infantry makes it stupidly hard to make an effective and or efficient army.
I wish they could figure out the balance for Lychguard. I'd happily pay Terminator points for them if they had a native 2+/4++, with the shields granting a third wound. Would make sense too, since they're supposed to have the same bodies as nobles in the lore. Oh well. At least my Wraiths are good again, I missed playing them
Triarch Praetorians are pretty much Custodian equivalents in lore, in-game they are barely any better than a space marine
Changing normal overlord to give his whole unit -1 dmg instantly fixes him and lychguard
would be nice to have a photo while talking about something for the visual people
Just played a couple of games using 30 deathmarks. With the +1 to hit bubble nearby just as surprising line infantry. They killed stuff very well. Including patriarch, support characters, genestealers and marines. With ease. You cannot hide from them, very consistant.
Good to see there was a difference of opinion on a couple of units.
Don't sleep on the stalker
they doubled the gauss shots, 6 shot's is ok
the obeisance phalanx can give them +1 wound, perfect for the heat rays melta/flame and fighting
and aside this it is both fast AND durable
it's fine but still 25 points overcosted
Since I can’t get anymore wraiths currently, I have 3. I was thinking of running a 20 blob of warriors with overlord with translocation shroud, and chronomancher to hustle on an objective, and have illuminor szeras trailing in support. I also was thinking of running 3 doomstalkers supported by reanimator in my power matrix.
I‘m actually using a normal overlord in my warriors atm because he hits pretty hard with his voidscythe, this kept my warriors alive several times now
other 40ktubers have called the warriors nerf a sidegrade.
A freaking sidegrade?!
It's a big nerf.
I know like what are they smoking, now they might as well be in the Silent kings disapproval tier if it isnt for the small niece they might have in Hypercrypt, which even why bother cause might as well fill that slot with something else.
Isn't TSK's best detachment the Awakened Dynasty? Giving DDAs +1 to hit from the Coronal and rerolls of 1s is pretty strong shooting, especially at the new S18.
Minus 1 dmg is ludicrously good on him
I really think imotekh in the hypercrypt legion makes a lot of sense. Ton of 2 cp strats that you want to use
Just be careful as he doesn't give CP if he's off the board due to hyperphase! But ran it as a trail run with a friend the other day. And the CP was invaluable
He either needs to be home objective holder, or run with lychguard. But if he's with lychguard he pretty much has to march up the board otherwise he won't generate CP.. so he kinda sticks out in a hyperphase build
@@samg7430 I used him in a trail run of the hyperphase the other day. I had him with some warriors, using the monolith's teleport means he is on the board in your command phase
@@minerman6767 that's good. How was he? How were the warriors?
@@samg7430 Warriors do even less damage than before, and reanimating only 2 a turn instead of 8+ is rough.
Just swap them for 6 wraiths and a techno and you'll get the same mileage, out of their durability and can action in combat
It’s a shame with the skorp lord his claw should be extra attacks and not the sweep equivalent.
As soon as they announced the extra attacks mechanic, that is exactly what I expected would happen
Small correction, Royal Warden is fall back, shoot OR charge. Not the end of the world, since immortals don't do a ton in melee anyway, but worth noting.
Does the regular overlord still have the void scythe vs the new translocation shroud overlord? Did they change the stats on the voidscythe?
great video!! love Seigler goat of 40k
So, if Warriors are sort of supposed to fill a horde/tarpit/anvil role, would a points drop help them get to a decent place in regards to that role? If so, how low should that value be?
I think they need to actually use the rule they put in the faq about being able to make certain units battleline, if skorpech destroyers were battleline in the annihilation legion i think it could be a lot better and maybe allow the skorpech lord to use both weapons in melee and maybe a 20-25 point drop
It really feels like they intended but forgot to make the flensing claw extra attacks.
"Obeisance": pronounced like "oBEY" + "sense", same root as "obey"
Lol it got to you too?
I refuse to Obey...sense.
@@ArtofWar40k lol, nice. Love the videos btw!
☝️🤓
Thank you for helping me pronounce my detachment
1:11:30 "even admech can kill it" actually I think vanguard and boat spam is one of the better things in the game at killing ctan. Rerolling wounds with high volume is gonna push 6s through and they only save on 4+! Especially if that star God was moved up there alone and you can give a unit +1 to wound against it from the hunter cohort strat...
For the vault can u do two of the same shots?
Any idea on whether I can use the new Dimensional Corridor stratagem to charge after I've performed a secondary action? RAW it looks like I can Eternity Gate out of a Monolith, shoot or perform an action, then use this stratagem to still be allowed to charge.
RAW I think you're right about actions, but probably not RAI. Ask your TO before you start. The rule was better in 9th (you could still charge but then the action fails).
I really disagree on the Deathmarks, they're our strongest secondary action monkeys, being a small profile 5 man squad worth 65pts with deep strike
Think i would still put ophydians slightly higher. Appreciate they arent really worth it in hypercrypt but some redeploy hasnt got any worse if you want to run the other detachments, similarly i think deathmarks would be a tier up in my book but otherwise largely matches up with what I was thinking
In 9th they were glass hammers in comparison in 10th they are just glass in comparison which is a shame. They needed a stat rebalance which they didn’t get after losing damage potential.
Cries at stack of overlords I have
I mean I get that it’s annoying to have models come back to life, but they could have just nerfed that playstyle a decent bit rather than take it out back and kill it. I know that 40K is different than Sigmar, but in Sigmar there are 3 death factions that revive models, and 2 of the factions straight up just replace destroyed units. It takes a little while to bring that playstyle into a balanced state, but GW could have balanced it if they wanted to. You can make bricks of warriors cost a metric ton of points so it isn’t viable competitively, but left it in a spot that casual players could still play with the whole “undying legion” fantasy in mind.
did deathmarks lose their shoot-on-deepstrike ability? When someone deepstrikes within 18 if you have 10 shots hitting on 2s (since they haven't moved) they'll kill any chaff unit your opponent has placed to try to score. and crucially will do it before they score... S5 -2 2 is a decent profile for 130 points
Deathmarks are the same.
If you take Cryptothralls with a Technomancer, will they gain 5+ FnP?
Yes
lol just finished my necron collection.
Is Canoptek Court in combination with Plasmancer + Szeras + 10 Teslaimmortals to much of a Combo/pointinvestment or is this just wild?
The Szeras investment isn't worth the points for the little extra damage considering how common cover is.
But if you were running more than one unit than maybe
@@minerman6767 but it‘s also a litte defensive buff plus the damage from Szeras himself isn‘t bad
@@minerman6767depends on your opponent. If they're mostly 3+ saves, it's not worth it. If they're 4+ or worse, when they'd still get cover on AP 0, then it is worth it.
@@musicalcharge I've also changed my stance on Szeras himself, in court or awakened, he can be a surprisingly durable pain in the ass for opponents to deal with, and can happily sit there doing actions and scoring points
I will say that you guys are sleeping on the Lokhust Destroyers. I am running 2 units of six with a Lord, and the amount of work they put in is insane. I do wish they had a detachment that made them extremely good, but I think that would have been overkill for a unit that deals a great amount of damage to just about everything and has fantastic movement
Their main downside is they takeup a lot of space and their defense is very mediocre so they can die against the scary shooting armies quite easily.
@@ArtofWar40k the size can be concerning, but as the rest of the army outside of Doomsday Arks and C’Tan are pretty fragile without a crypto attached
Overall I like the list.
I do think you guys are under-rating warriors in the hypercrypt though, the ability to teleport 3" away and string out and move block over 50" is going to be very strong especially since you can pull the unit back to a monolith once they are targeted and then put them back into reserves to do the exact same thing the next turn. It's going to lead to multiple turns of your opponent just unable to move forward with most their army.
One thing to consider is that Infiltrator and scout units are very common at the moment helping armies screen.
Warriors in hypercrypt actually kind of make sense with the arisen tyrant plasmancer, you don't really have to worry about the short range of the reaper or even the lower strength, since you're averaging 22 lethal hits. Compared with 38 hits on average vs the Tesla immortals, the math works out similarly across a lot of mid toughness targets, better for the gauss into really tough stuff, better for the Tesla into pure chaff (though 22 lethals AP-1 is hardly bad there). The difference is that the warriors are 60 points more, slightly less durable, but you also get twice the bodies and twice the OC which has its own value for sure. Finally, if you are running Szeras, that extra AP helps a lot more with the gauss reaper than the tesla. AP -2 is more than twice as good as AP -1 with cover being everywhere. It actually even goes the other way too, that Szeras's AoC aura stacks slightly better with a 4+ save, since in cover vs AP -1 the warriors will take advantage of the AoC, while with the immortals it's redundant.
with the warrior nerfs, i know longer know what im going to do with my 100 warrior models. They will sit on a shelf and be very sad.
I think it's oh-BAY-sense.
Really sleeping on the dev wounds strat in canoptek court imo. That with immortals flat out busted
I'm not sleeping on that at all!
@@ArtofWar40k Fair enough! It was just in reference to Jack saying there was 2 world class strats and 4 middling ones in the canoptek court haha
Cool, half units a trash, great
Well, at least better then index(where been ONLY warriors blocks or guardshilds...)
Man, I was really hoping the hypercrypt legion wasn’t based around the monolith😓 I was hoping it was playable without the monolith because I don’t have time to build/paint one and I wanted to try that detachment
Totally playable without the Monolith
One might argue it's better playable without a Monolith. But that's just me.@@ArtofWar40k
WTC doesn't let models overhang with terrain? Even aircraft? That makes no sense. Their rules continue to confound me.
Great video though! Very excited for my Canoptek army and Monolith.
There's a case for the Tomb Stalker: Deepstrike, Free Heroic stacking, 4++, M10 T9 W9 3+, Gloom Prism, 8 gauss shots arent bad when you couple in 6 attacks on the charge, monster for action in melee. They're 20 points over 3 wraith (if they stay the same) with 3 fewer wounds but T9. Are they better than wraith? No but they have more utility and durability into match ups wraith might not like. I'd say they're so firmly middle ground they're almost always eclipsed but definitely not bottom.
WTC has head scratchers all over the place.
I think you‘re wrong with imothek, he‘s very handy in hypercrypt legion as well because there you‘re really in need of many cp for movement shananigans and instant charge etc
im sorry but overlooking strength 4 gauss reapers nerf and saying "they never did damage anyway" is BS
I got to say this it is super depressing with this tier list. Like we look worse in terms of unit versatility than we did with the index. Unlike the other 3 codex's we only have 2 good detachments and 2/3 of our units are fucking garbage.
Please stop saying "OBEE-ESSENCE" 😂 if you're going to say a word 1000 times in a video maybe take the two seconds to look it up 🤦🤦🤦
Art of war, again a disappointment
?
edit: my b!
You always had D3+3, never D6.
You can only reroll one dice, it's based on the units reanimation ability in the wording
Dude d3+3 ist 5,5 and 2d3+3 were 8. who the hell had warriors not touching any objective 😂.
It's not about average, it's about the minimum you used to be able to count on. Now there will be lots of instances, even with reroll, where you get just 2 or 3 guys back on an RP trigger.
Warhammer 40k is dead to me.
