Good luck with that. I still drive around every month and pay my bills with folding money. Haven't had a bank account since they decided to hold a cash deposit five days so that they could make sure a check to cover a ticket from the highway patrol would bounce and they could charge me an overdraft fee even though my account allegedly included overdraft protection.
The customary hold for felony check fraud is ten years and a substantial fine. It would behoove those involved to set aside commissary money with a trusted family member, they are going to need it.

Many of them have been in the negative before with their bank accounts. The highest negative balance you could probably be in "normally" is by $50-$70 dollars negative (not including the addition of fees). Any other higher monetary values that goes against your insufficient balance usually gets automatically declined. So the glitch here was that they'd be able to go into the negative by 10k, 20k, and 30k, etc, and receive the funds right away. They were aware that the account would now be ruined in bad standing afterwards. However, they were NOT aware of how serious a crime over-drafting your account is. In addition, how the consequences will follow them and everyone associated with the fraud and account in question.
That makes sense as from my experience, regardless of whatever means by which a check is deposited, they might release some funds (depending on the account) but I can’t imagine them releasing $10K before it clears unless you already have that much in the account to cover it. Does that make sense?
