For the last 4 months we have used a machine to press the dough, but we still dock it (pointy roller) to reduce air pockets and hand toss it. We just don't do initial stretch and edge lock (crust border) like we used to. We discontinued pan pizza 2 years ago. And now we no longer use Spinach Alfredo sauce but use Alfredo sauce and fresh baby Spinach... might want to keep up with the changes!
I swore off Papa John’s about 20 years ago because of their over-use of garlic. I recently tried it again and was pleasantly surprised that it had changed to a quite tasty fare… the stuffed crust is not bad either.
I was an assistant manager at Papa John's once and I'll clarify a few things from my experiences: As a former employee at both Dominos and Pizza Hut, I can say that the effort to make a crust is much more rigorous at PJs than Dominos or PH. At Dominos, you're stretching a crust, sure. But the dough at PJs is much more firm. At PH, you're stretching a disc-shaped dough to the edge of a pan. I'm not too sure if I buy the cheese going to the same 3 big pizza chains. I have to assume this depends on the area franchise. The anchovies came canned at my location. Of course, they were rarely ordered, but canned anchovies last for a very long time if refrigerated.
I like Papa Johns over the other big pizza chains only because they are less likely to mess up your pizza. Pizza hut has serious quality control issues so their pizza will taste like garbage half the time. Domino’s pizza cheese sucks too. They put very little and it’s like eating plastic. Little ceasars tastes like garbage once it gets cold, and chances are when you order, the pizza was already made a long time ago, so they give you a cold pizza that’s just been sitting there. Papa Johns just has a decent crust.
I'm a huge pizza nerd. I especially focus on the Neapolitan style Margarita. I'm very cautious about the tomato sauce (preferably San Marzano tomatoes), The cheese has to come from the right buffalo that is grassing in the area of Napoli because of the richness in the soil. Also stone oven is of course a must, and so on and so on... Now the voice over says the Papa Johns is good pizza like it's a given and that everyone should just agree. I'm European (surprise!!). Would I also like Papa John? Any other pizza nerds that have tried Papa John?
I am a huge pizza connoisseur & absolutely love Papa John’s pizzas. As far as franchise-pizzas go, I think papa John’s is the best tasting option. And they always have amazing deals on their app/website (if you sign up for their rewards programs); sometimes I feel like I’m robbing them because of how good & inexpensive their pizzas can be lol.

Pjohns is the worst pizza in the world....I don't see how they are even still open and stay in business. They need to revamp their pizza recipe.
