100% agree. It is baffling why they continually play the guy out of position. I understand putting him at RT during his rookie season out of necessity, but that should've ended with the season. It is mind-numbing how such a simple move seems impossible for them to do. And it is complete incompetence that they will not do it. The problem with the Steelers drafting is they used to take the best player available on the board. For the last 10 years, they've drafted for need. And when you miss on those, you dig yourself into a hole.
Coaching is incompetent. Tomlin was carried by great coordinators and a HOF QB. Mediocrity since they’ve been gone. He is so stubborn and doesn’t want help, he thinks he can run the entire show.
Colbert's bad drafting has been hard to overcome. I think Khan is on the right track. They are followingn the Eagles model. Draft OL and DL in 1st round. DL will be 1st round pick this year.
The problem with Broderick Jones was that he was young and raw. The Georgia players raved about his ability. A journeyman offensive line coach seems Matt Canadaesque. He was fired by Carolina Panthers
They waited too long to draft a 1st/2nd round Ben replacement. Picked Terrell Edmunds over Lamar Jackson and Chase Claypool over Jaylen Hurts. Ben was drafted in 2004, should have started thinking of his replacement by 2014.

Dejan great video AGAIN. You really have the vision of our debacle. I will add that also much of the recent picks problems has been his coaching. NFL is not college and the adaption to the major level needs guidance. Warm regards
Yes that knee injury killed Bush. He couldnt be the sideline to sideline MLB that the Steelers needed. I thought it was a great move at the time to trade up and draft him so I wont knock Tomlin for that one, but I truly believe Tomlin cannot get the most out of any rookie they draft. They always seem to have great rookie years then completely regress after that.
Only the Seahawks and Patriots have picked up fewer 5th year options on rookies since 2013 (meaning we drafted a winner!). Only the Raiders have declined more 5th year options (the person we drafted is a disappointment or not wroth the 5th year option). This does not count Kenny Pickett who we dealt before a decision is required on his status. One of the three options we picked up was drafted by another team (Minkah). One of the three contracts we picked up was Ryan Shazier. At this moment, it looks as though the last 1st round pick we will pick up is TJ Watt -- who just turned 30 -- in 2017. That is why the Steelers have slogged to mediocrity. And if Tomlin has been pounding the table for these players, then someone needs to escort him out of the room. The common theme for the bottom 4 teams is replacing a HOF-caliber QB with marginal to average QB play and missing on player evaluations at other positions to help bolster the roster (Colts, Steelers, Patriots, and Seahawks). No top 10 QB + Only 3 players over 10 drafts receiving 5th year option + prioritizing players at unimportant positions (MLB, TE, RB, and S) speaks to why the team is stuck at 9-8 and 10-7.
You are correct DK. If the Steelers want to build a championship roster mostly through the draft. They can't be missing so often with those picks. Nice job Tomlin.😖
DK the Steelers looked lackadaisical in the first half against Baltimore. It was NOT just that one series. Maybe saying that they weren’t trying is going too far but, they looked slow, resigned, pre-defeated.
It was a wr that jackson didnt show full effort. It was a 2nd or 3rd and long after a big loss. When caught the ball, the wr had 9 yeards to gain the 1st down. Jackson was 3 yards outside of the 1st down. Not only did the 5'10" wr get the 1st down but also gained the 3 extra yards where jackson was standing. So yes effort. Shouldve had trice out there if cant do the job. Thats another 10 players doing their job and 1 not. Except in the ravens game it was more like 7 players doing the right thing and 4 not
I didn't like the pick for Jones at all considering the talent at WR available and the absolute need for another WR. But then doubling down and taking another tackle last year when again they were desperate for a WR and Bryan Thomas was available and seeing how it turned out was pretty bad.
Good morning DK. People are gonna disagree with me, but I don't think the Steelers have been analyzing talent very well the last few years and now they're failing to develop the talent they end up drafting. Najee has been consistent, but they could have drafted him in the 2nd round. Kenny Pickett wasn't worth a 1sr round pick, but they failed at developing/supporting him (he didn't help himself either) Broderick Jones is going to end up as another bust unless they fire Pat Meyer and move Jones to LT (his natural position) We don't know what we have in Troy Fautanu because the poor kid got a season ending knee injury. Now, I'm worried they're gonna ruin another 1st round pick in the draft this year too
I don't think very many people here are going to disagree with you. It is rather obvious they have a scouting/player evaluation problem in some manner. Omar also seems to be picking better in later rounds than early rounds strangely enough, but perhaps his sample size is too small to say for him yet.
Great show, DK, another job well done. I don't understand drafting athlete and not playing them at there position. They don't allow Minkah to play his game they are not continuing to do thing that are working. It seems as if they want to fail.
Thank you DK. The team reached their peak against the Bengals, after that game things fell apart. It's not that they didn't have problems, but the last 4-5 games they got challenged by really good teams. It was even said they can't win against the Eagles and the Chiefs. Three of the biggest games Ravens and Bengals - Ravens. It was within the Division they got out smarted. The biggest problem was within the offense. Bad choices and adjustments made too late. Being loyal to the wrong idea or player can mess thing up. Great show DK, I might be a little green
Well, yeah. Because Moore is a Tomlin favorite, a mid round pick who he “coached” into a left tackle. Except he’s terrible. But that doesn’t matter, does it?
If Donte Jackson was playing through back pain and was unable to give 100% effort in tackling, he shouldn’t be playing. They were willing to play trice 1-1 on chase the week before but not in the playoffs?
GM DK. Couldn't agree more on first rd draft picks. The only thing saving them is they've crushed it in the 2, 3 ,4 rounds . About Pickens and trading him. I think his ceiling is HOF type a player. 1 he's gonna need the right qb. 2 he's gonna need the right play calling, and most importantly, he's gonna need to grow up. Hate to see him go , but I understand the thoughts.
They did quit. They achieved NHALS. The Tomlin yardstick of success. The earlier the season ends, the earlier the vacations start and they can schedule their tee times.
Absolutely. Everything is up for interpretation but in my opinion it looked like not everyone was giving their all for that entire game. I just watched the Ravens Bills game and even though there was a winner and loser and mistakes made, I never looked at either team and thought they were giving anything less than 100% for the entire game. That’s not the case when I watch Steelers games.
DK I think whether the effort thing is true or not, it still presents an issue. And I agree with you that the players are almost certainly giving their all, or at the very least the vast majority are. The issue is that the team plays so poorly that regardless if they are trying their best or not, it looks as if they are not trying to an outside observer. That is unacceptable. Whether it be prep, motivation, scheme, it doesn't matter. No other team was questioned in that manner during these playoffs, because they didn't appear to play so poorly, lethargic, and seemingly disorganized that you had to question it. And maybe I am misremembering, but I feel like this is not the only time outside observers have levied this criticism over the years. You say it is not reflective of reality, and you may very well be entirely correct. But it is reflective of something deeply wrong rotting and festering under the surface of this team.
I watched the same game and their body language on Baltimores 2nd drive was very obvious. I dont disagree with you often DK. But on this, I totally disagree. I saw what all the others saw too.
Do we really want to see Tomlin draft another WR? He cant seem to keep any if them in line and with the shaky QB situation they are bound to imlode at some point. I know Pickens had character issues in college so they should have seen that issue coming a mile away, but Tomlin cant seem to keep any WR he drafts focused on the team. Just sign a WR like Adams in FA and see what Roman Wilson has.
Another head--scratcher is how many draft picks, during this period, ended up on IR almost their whole rookie seasons ( ie...Fautanu, Wilson, Trice, Austin). Poor conditioning ??? Too many late contributing investments when we needed immediate help at positions. I know you can't predict these things, but we seemed to have a disproportionate amount of picks that ended up there.
Gotta find ways to get earlier picks on the draft. Picking in the 20s every year. It’s normally 8-12 studs in the draft. U gotta find a way to negotiate and move up to those picks to get real talent.
The Steelers roots are deep enough to get over or close to 500, aka the rinse and repeat insanity! The Steelers will NEVER trade what they have to get a franchise QB, so you the only thing left is to get crazy lucky or lose badly. Either way nothing will change, regardless of everyone’s Tomlin is not the problem narrative!
I absolutely think the steelers approach to the draft has held them back FA too , one stop being cheap in FA . Two i feel like they constantly draft the BPA at the position on need . I think that works some but if you go back the amount of high rated players they pass to get the position they need . And the Biggest issue is LOYALTY look at philly and other teams that move players and get picks they always have a ton of picks and a loaded roster 7 tries vs 11 or 12. They clearly are more consistent missing picks than hitting on them probably should focus on having extra.
The 2024 draft looks promising. Zach Frazier is a lock at center for the next 15 years. Peyton Wilson looks promising. Mason McCormick putting in good work we have yet to see what Troy and Roman can do. Maybe, Give Omar time to shine. I won’t give up on Jones just yet. Porter needs to continue the growth trend. Benton needs to continue to develops. Herbig is promising. Trice needs to stay healthy.
I hope the minkah show happens sooner than later. I don't put too much emphasis on stats, but I did see some advanced analytics today that seem to confirm what we've all suspected about minkah In 2024. He had by far the worst passer rating against out of the entire starting secondary. Using my own eyes, I can't even count how many times I saw him two or three steps behind a receiver catching a touchdown this year. Which, obviously, could be the result of minkah coming out of position and almost making a play on a receiver that wasn't necessarily his to cover. But the eye test paired with those analytics suggest that whether he was being used correctly or not, quarterbacks were effective when targeting him
When Daniels went down I don’t know why they didn’t move Seamalu over and put McCormick in his natural position LG, so they got another rookie out of position
Regarding effort, DK (and I tend to agree with you). But there was a play, when #6 was in the hole and 22 was barreling through. I saw him seemingly jump out of the hole to let a Henry trample through… I’m sure you saw it. This is literally a play I’ve never seen before. It was so egregious, it couldn’t have been purposeful. But how to explain it then?
seems like poor scouting has been the norm rather than the exception across decades I remember Greg Hawthorne (thinking 1979) 1st round. had chronic hamstring injuries injuries. then had misfortune with Greg Rivera around 1983 to be the next Joe Green in an auto accident. very unfortunate.
They haven't been doing well in the draft. Najee was a great pick as a player, but they should've gone after an offensive lineman. Watt, great pick. Decastro, Heyward, Shazier, and Timmons round out their good 1st rounders since 2007.
Broderick Jones is just another massive symptom of Mike Tomlin. A LT playing at RT after we spend a 4th Round pick to trade up. Yes, Broderick Jones needs to step up. But him being shoved out of position hurt him badly. Also, I never liked the Fautanu pick. Always should have been Brian Thomas Jr
They are digging their own grave in many ways, Colbert last few drafts, Tomlin’s coaching and having a hand in the drafts, Kahn’s free agents and drafts. Art Rooney not being Dan!! Not one area has doomed them, but add them all up? Mediocrity!! But hey, Tomlin’s never had a losing season, that’s kinda like a Lombardi trophy, isn’t it??😂
just another way that Tomlin has shown his arrogance. Put people where they are supposed to go. I think that they will do it this year. It is incredible listening to the Steelers 1st and 2nd round picks busting. wow. Steelers seem to hit better on day 3 and FA.
4:18 Keep relying on hitting big on our middle to late round picks... Then blame the coach for not turning them in an (AB) or a (TJ).. Not working the Free Agency market...
How long will the team be mediocre. Another 10 years? Average players below average coaching. Below average drafting, last min trades to try to make a difference. So bad.
Just put Jones back where he has played since H.S.! You wouldn't draft a CB and put him at LB. WHEN shit doesn't work out you call him a bust. There is not too many busts coming out of GEORGIA or the SEC
Consistency, In Mediocrity Decisions. That's Why They Run Outta Gas Towards The End Of Every Season Under The Teflon Coach. It's A Scary Fact, How They Draft In The First Round Of The NFL Draft. Tomlin's Legacy Of A Mediocre Standard.
Care to hear this as a criticism of Tomlin? What else has this become? He gets lots of blame, and very little credit. Imagine having this many 1st rounders flop, and yet STILL be good enough to make the playoffs.
the problem is then compounded by the SUCKY coach who then doesn't move off of his 1st round busts to replace them with a better performer. all because he has a massive ego and wants to maintain the deception that he is a good coach. if he moved off his 1st rounder, he'd be admitting he was wrong, which is the last thing this fraudulent man would ever do, he's all about his perception, which he's riding out. this is like 5th circle of Hell stuff.
Horrible 1st round selection results. I expect hitting on 80-90% of 1st round selections (non-QB), considering how much research they do on players. We have chased need, no matter what they say about 'best player available'.
I know KP is everyones favovite whipping boy but he was massively misused. Maybe he was a reach. maybe he will turn out to be a quailty NFL QB. Before we all are overjoyed to se Najee go, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him excell some place behind a good line.

I said his name multiple times. WTH - Dejan
This is the best draft for RB in years.
But we desperately need a QB
Give Justin fields the keys for this upcoming szn… if he doesn’t show sign of improvement. The next draft is a QB draft. @
@nickfoe5477 I believe he will start I hope so cause Russ ain't cutting it
Another head--scratcher is how many draft picks, during this period, ended up on IR almost their whole rookie seasons ( ie...Fautanu, Wilson, Trice, Austin). Poor conditioning ??? Too many late contributing investments when we needed immediate help at positions. I know you can't predict these things, but we seemed to have a disproportionate amount of picks that ended up there.
I wish they traded these picks for a Qb
Gotta find ways to get earlier picks on the draft. Picking in the 20s every year. It’s normally 8-12 studs in the draft. U gotta find a way to negotiate and move up to those picks to get real talent.
You just outlined Tomlin's incompetency in recognizing talent.
We better have an amazing offseason because I’m not feeling to optimistic.
They kept picking "need" instead of the best player
Gm DK idk whats going to happen in free agency or draft we will see we need a QB still but need WR too
The 2024 draft looks promising.
Everyone in the coaching staff has to be the scape goat....yet no matter the changes that get made yhe results remain the same .......
We seems to only scout edge rushers well. Get rid of the rest of the scouting dept.
Give Byron leftwitch a shot as qb coach!
@@jordanjarvey1695 I don't think we need a QB coach we need a decent QB not these retreads
But the eye test paired with those analytics suggest that whether he was being used correctly or not, quarterbacks were effective when targeting him
@@joeyyoho3670 Minkah plays best close to the line they've been playing him far back lately
When Daniels went down I don’t know why they didn’t move Seamalu over and put McCormick in his natural position LG, so they got another rookie out of position
Tomlin has never known how to use his personnel effectively never
Regarding effort, DK (and I tend to agree with you).
Dk, Minkah did the job this coaching staff laid out for him 🤷🏿♂️
Good point. I think 77 is a knucklehead, btw.
seems like poor scouting has been the norm rather than the exception across decades
I remember Greg Hawthorne (thinking 1979)
1st round. had chronic hamstring injuries injuries. then had misfortune with Greg Rivera
around 1983 to be the next Joe Green in an auto accident. very unfortunate.
They haven't been doing well in the draft. Najee was a great pick as a player, but they should've gone after an offensive lineman. Watt, great pick. Decastro, Heyward, Shazier, and Timmons round out their good 1st rounders since 2007.
The Chase Claypool pick is literally still on the team in Joey porter junior.
But hey, Tomlin’s never had a losing season, that’s kinda like a Lombardi trophy, isn’t it??😂
10 and 3 vs bums once the good teams came we got our answer
Fire Tomlin.
It’s going to be a LONG offseason.
just another way that Tomlin has shown his arrogance. Put people where they are supposed to go. I think that they will do it this year. It is incredible listening to the Steelers 1st and 2nd round picks busting. wow. Steelers seem to hit better on day 3 and FA.
The Coach doesn't write the checks...
They need to pick another malcontent WR to keep the streak going.
J1Q: WouldTomlin allow (or Rooney require) the hiring of big personality/high profile coordinators?
Colbert left the team for dead...which was a kick in the nuts to tomlin
Colbert lost a power struggle to Tomlin. Coach Teflon signs off on all picks.
4:18 Keep relying on hitting big on our middle to late round picks... Then blame the coach for not turning them in an (AB) or a (TJ).. Not working the Free Agency market...
They have way too many needs to fix in the draft but they won’t fix nothing!
The ravens are paper champions!!!
If we trade Pickens I’m done w the Steelers
Consistency, In Mediocrity Decisions.
That's Why They Run Outta Gas Towards The End Of Every Season
Under The Teflon Coach.
It's A Scary Fact, How They Draft In The
First Round Of The NFL Draft.
Tomlin's Legacy Of A Mediocre Standard.
Here to say the Steelers passed on Quinyon Mitchell for Troy Fatanau.
Troy Fautanu is going to be great! He fell into the Steelers lap like DeCastro! Quinyon is very good, but I love the Fautanu pick!
Care to hear this as a criticism of Tomlin? What else has this become? He gets lots of blame, and very little credit. Imagine having this many 1st rounders flop, and yet STILL be good enough to make the playoffs.
Let’s draft another Olineman in the 1sts and make him play out of position
the problem is then compounded by the SUCKY coach who then doesn't move off of his 1st round busts to replace them with a better performer. all because he has a massive ego and wants to maintain the deception that he is a good coach. if he moved off his 1st rounder, he'd be admitting he was wrong, which is the last thing this fraudulent man would ever do, he's all about his perception, which he's riding out. this is like 5th circle of Hell stuff.
Or at least a scheme that actually fits him.
Stop drafting for potential and actually draft players that can play
Couldn't agree more with terrible 1st rouders.
I think it says way more about the coaching than the scouting. Players can be developed well coming in from any round.
Art ain't no Dan.
Steelers coaching ruins these talents as soon as they stepped on the useless practice field
Omar effect..How the DEI steelers going ???
Hopeless
Its not tje playera its thw coaches.
Yeah.......a £@#*# ton of it IS Coaching.
