As a senior commercial banker with a major regional bank we observed many times about the third generation running a company. The first generation takes the risk and builds the company from the ground up , the second generation grows and develops it to the greatest degree and the third generation spends the money and lives off what the first two have done. That is where the Steelers currently are. He is not going to take aggressive actions to move them forward.

You make a valid point, however, the challenges change because the game is constantly evolving. Art needs to realize that football is fluid and now we're in the RPO era. Getting a QB who can pass and run is essential. Other than that I'm okay with their player development. It's not easy to have multiple "non-losing" seasons without tanking and starting over. Go Steelers!

Anyone remember pre Ben, the 80's ? We are going through the same process. There really are no options available in this years draft, 2026 will be a deep class where pgh can make a move similiar to what they did when drafting Ben.
So, they will continue to build, bide their time and build from trenches out similiar to Philly.

Theres a fairly good core on this team, and the coaches have no idea what to do with them (such as making sure Minkah will never be involved in any plays, or not knowing that you can move T.J. around a bit to keep offenses from being able to key on him as easily), but the thing absolutely killing the entire team is this train wreck of an offensive line. It instills tremendous confidence in me to know that the exact same failure of an offensive line coach will return for yet another infuriating season of 'Do the Steelers Actually Know How to Play Football Yet?' Thanks Mr. Rooney for destroying any hope for next season so early on.

If they go with him, support him with talent. Yr1 he wasn't supposed to play and the tape wasn't great. Yr2 (different Offense) the team was gutted and his running ability was discovered and small statistical improvements showed up. He was voted top 100 players in NFL by Peers in Yr2. YR3 he improved statistically and gave his WR1 his best career year. He got injured but came back and showed better play after injury. With no. 1 pick available to team, they pivoted away from him. Yr4 under a 3rd Offense, he did well in what looked like a controlled Offense called to not be risky. The 2nd half in the game vs IND showed what you can do with him if you let him throw and run without reservation. Any team that goes all in with him will not be disappointed because the talent is there (Hesiman caliber player) and it's looking like he is getting better and better in small increments yearly. Stats back it up.

Id like to see him with the surroundings some of his peers have (Lamar, Josh, Joe, Patrick, Jalen), he got a #1 caliber receiver for the first time last year and like you said gave him his best career year in less played games than others.
Also like you said he's never been in a team or a system either built for him or solid enough to facilitate growth. The fact hee improving as he has, should be a singing light to any team. We know what he can do in a mess, Chicago was 4 bad coaches games away from the playoffs last year with a bottom 23 line, outside of DJ, receivers last in and bottom 3 in separation, defense below 20 before the montez sweat trade, a rebuild as a rookie technically. That's a lot for your 1st 4 years

One of the things I thought was interesting with the Chiefs game was how they play to win and not play to not lose. They ran the clock out by actually completing passes. 10 weeks into the season this team had a top 5 defense and a top 10 offense. That was at the peak of the offensive line reshuffling. Russ *maybe* gave them a better chance of winning games, so they went with him? And then when he stunk for the last 5 games they decided he's not worth $20M+? So now they decide to keep Fields. Just feels like mismanagement of this past season. Why have allegiance to Russ when Fields is younger, more dynamic, and could have an actual future with the team? Especially if they are internally deciding pretty immediately two weeks after the season to go with Fields.

This is the best decision possible right now. Wilson and none of the other available free agents give you your long term answer. Fields has potential to be that guy! By fully commiting to him next year you'll gain the clarity needed. Not sure I’m buying into Fields will be the guy and Wilson can go elsewhere just because I’ve been around for 5 decades of Steeler football and know that loyalty goes a long way into job security. I wouldn’t put it past Wilson to be able to sweet talk his way into staying and it’s Fields that is left out in the Cold. Not saying that’s what I want, but Rooney did give a clue that could be interpreted 2 ways. One is how DK explained it, two If your indeed thinking you’re going to draft a QB next year, then would it make sense to keep Fields if your looking to keep him long term or Wilson who you may give a 3 year deal too and allow your drafted QB to develop under? Just saying you can usually count on the front office to do exactly the thing you think they shouldn’t or what you want them to do.

If Fields is QB1 moving forward, I’ll do everything I possibly can to contain my excitement for the 25th best QB in football. A QB who can’t stay healthy, never played a full season, can’t read defenses, doesn’t move the needle or generate excitement.

Worse since he was 4-2 when he replaced him with Russ and everyone thought that was working he will go right back to it. He did the same thing to Kenny Pickett. So we will never know what we have in Fields as long as Tomlin lives in his fears on Turnovers! So what is the point! Fields or no Fields we won’t ever really find out what we have? What a disaster!
