I launched my first course on Skillshare - all about building a PROPER productivity system - so you'll be able to use that free trial to take it!
Huge thanks to Skillshare for both sponsoring this video and working with me to develop my course.
Can you go to a paperless note-taking system while still hand-writing your notes? Yes! But with normal paper, the process of digitizing your notes can be a bit of a hassle - and that's what the Rocketbook Everlast attempts to fix.
In offering two killer features - erasable pages and a system for automatically sending your scanned notes to the right places - the Rocketbook ends up as one of the smartest notebooks you can buy - but it's also not cheap.
Is it worth it? Now that I've used mine for nearly a year, today I'll attempt to answer that question.

I would like to give a quick warning, friction pens erase with heat, so be careful when leaving your notebook in a hot car or something like that. You can however bring it back to a degree by sticking it in the fridge! Goodluck and be safe with friction pens!

As a Storyboard Artist I love the Rocketbook Everlast. I can sketch out my thumbnails and roughs then quickly scan them, where they are sent to an easy file I can then put into my Storyboard Software. I used to use a lot of paper doing this and have been using scrap paper, but now I just wash these pages off and I’m good to go. This frees me up as I’m not limited by technology to work under the same wifi or at my desk, but I can work in a coffee shop, a park, etc without taking my expensive technology with me. So the value of the Everlast Notebook works for me.

I’ve had my Rocketbook for about a year. I use it for all my hand written notes in class and meetings at work. This meant I could ditch my heavy backpack and get a lighter bag since I no longer carry binders, notebooks, etc. I just carry a folder for papers given in class, the Rocketbook, and my tablet in case I need to take text notes. I use the scan function to automatically sync my tablet notes with handwritten notes in Microsoft Onenote. The pens I bought lasted me two semesters until I forgot them in the car on a hot day and they no longer work. However refills are cheaper than buying new pens and these pens are the only ones I ever use since they erase. Hopefully that all helps.

What I love about this notebook is that since I have it I write down a lot more. Before I would not write as much down at the end of a lecture because I would have to start a new page and then use only part of it, it felt like a waste of paper every time. Additionally it's great for solving math problems because u can experiment and work out the right path to solving a problem and still make it look neat at the end.

I am a left handed person, so I wonder how it will affect my taking of notes using this system. I remember when Papermate came out with the first "erasable" pen. I thought it would be cool to try it out, but after only one use, I realized it was a bust with me. The problem was that my hand passes over the lines I have just written. As is the case with the erasable pen, my hand passes over the sentences I wrote. The idea behind the erasable pen was that a person could correct mistakes he made while writing in ink up to the time necessary for the ink to dry. Once the ink dried, then it was permanent. My problem was that since I was left handed, my hand passed over the sentence I just wrote and erased, or smudged the text very badly, making what I wrote illegible. You mentioned that the ink does take a few seconds to dry because of the "paper's" glossy surface. Would that affect someone like me who is left handed?

Hey Thomas! Love your videos! They have helped me a lot! I have a question here...
I'm currently taking your course on Skillshare and I just finished watching your video on building a note taking system. You mentioned that you use Evernote for your note taking system, but how do you integrate both your Rocketbook Everlast notebook and Evernote as parts of your note taking system? How do you make a distinction on which "notebook" to write your notes on?
I'm thinking of getting the Rocketbook Everlast but I'd also like to have the great features a notebook app offers (like Evernote) and I'd like to integrate these two together. However, I'm honestly confused how to do this because if I were to send the note I made in Everlast to Evernote, it would just appear as an attachment and I would have to open a separate app to view the PDF (I prefer PDF to be able to annotate on Adobe Acrobat) and that's just one extra tedious step making the Evernote almost a useless medium to go through. It made more sense to integrate the Rocketbook Everlast on a cloud storage service like you showed in this video.
I'd like to know how you handle this. I'd really appreciate your response on this! Thank you in advance!

My boss gave me this notebook last year and I love it. My only thing is that I fill it up so quickly (I rarely ever wipe the pages), the pens actually don't last long (I guess that happens with a monopoly on something), and the bar code thing is kind of silly (I could just take a photograph that auto saves directly into my cloud). But it's a wonderful purchase. I highly recommend it. It's useful and cuts down on the amount of paper I actually use, though I do still use paper notebooks, especially for journaling. The price is pretty decent for what you get. It seems like a thin notebook, but it's reusable so it's worth it.

Great video - I hadn't heard of this before.
If you like the idea of writing on paper - you should really checkout the LiveScribe system.
You also use special notebooks and a special pen - but the paper is actual paper and the pen is ink. The difference is that the paper is also "dot" paper and the pen scans as you write - so you can also record audio as you write and it will play back in sync with what you were writing at the time - although I rarely use that feature.
It syncs to an iPad/iPhone App and you can convert the written text to typed text.
The downside is that the system is not inexpensive (pen/paper) and you only use the notebook once (it's ink on paper), but I've found it to be very effective. Your notebooks can also be set to sync to cloud services. I do like the system because:
    1) it's pen/paper completely
    2) I can keep my notes in my notebooks AND have a digital copy

Thank you for explaining the use and mentioning that takes longer to dry. It is good to know because it will be a pain for someone like me... because I am lefty. I hate those pens that take too long, because I end up messing up everything...

This is a Year later but, an advice or maybe a curiosity: I live where is always how weather so, in my room I’ve aircon and a fan on. So the Ink from FrxPen dry in 3-4s so when you end writing it’s already dry. If not have that possibility in a place with a good airflow would be enough to dry faster. Also is more expensive but is reusable in 1y and half since I bought mine. I would already spend more than 4-6 normal notebooks. Which is around the same price of 1 RB. :).
PS: i thought I was weird to choose paper over iPad but I’m not alone :,) but because of the covid I would have to change to iPad because the refills for pens are sold out in amazon and for me I could spend a refill in half month.
    Thx for the review !

For my friend, her frixon pens last around 2 weeks - one month. It really depends how much you use those pens. I prefer thin ballpoint pens or fast dry gel pens

Pilot Frixion pens changed my life. Just be sure never to leave the pens or notebook in a hot place, like a hot car. Smudging must be due to the easy wipe pages of the book, in regular notebooks the ink dries quick and doesn't seem to slip across the page too easily.
The Rocketbook people are nice enough to offer free downloads of pages you can print on regular paper and use their app too.

Have you heard of the reMarkable paper tablet? I've been using it for almost a year now, and am very satisfied with it!
I have all my notes with me all the time and I can use it not only for note taking, but also for filling in PDFs and reading ebooks.
You should give it a try!

I bought the Rocketbook myself. For me the price is alright because as a student in Germany where you aren't allowed to use a IPad or laptop in course I had to buy a new notebook almost every 2 weeks. For my last 2 years of school and maybe also my time at university later I think it will pay off.

you can also get rocketbook printables. i print mine out on a5 or personal size for filofax. so can use any pen, still easy to scan and if you need more pages you just print :)

I'm using it and in general liking it, but I have one more down side to add. On heavily used pages (basically my big todo list) I find that the left hand side of the page (typically where I check my items as done) becomes more shiny and is harder to write on. If you know of a hack to remediate this, let me know.

You can also check the "Write" app (mobile and desktop, even linux) of Styluslabs. For people not using Apple devices, but rather any android+any stylus (or desktop+digitizer; I used android tablet as an input device) I think it's so useful.

I have some questions and i hope someone can answer these:
    Can I use coloured pens?
    Or Textmarker?
And can i "glue" something on it or use post its?

Get some viny, cut it in letter size, bind it and write with sketch pens or thin markers or maybe even pilot pens should work on it. Can be cleaned as easily as this rocketbook.
Now for Scanning and saving , Install Drophbox, Create one folder for each of your subjects. The drophbox app has facilty to direcly scan document using camera and mostly it detecs edges correctly.
    Result: you save 35$

Thanks! I indeed found out later that they are pretty widely available through Amazon etc.
      Though not in A4, A5, A6 etc.
Call me a nitpicker, but somehow it distracts and annoys me to have different 'paper sizes' in a 'pack' of notes. It doesn't matter if It's physical paper or if I have to scroll through them on a screen. (apparently I like order because chaos distracts me and dealing with it requires energy I can't put into work that matters...)

I love my Rocketbook but let me share a tip I found in case anybody else has this problem. My pen looked like it had dried up with more than half of the gel left. I saw someone say to put the pen in the freezer because heat is the thing that makes the ink disappear when erased. I did.. it worked. Pen is working beautifully now. Also, because heat is a factor for this ink.. don't leave your notebook or pen in a hot car or anywhere heat may affect it. :)
