The best way to go about breaking in docs is to wear taller socks to avoid blisters and taking breaks as often as needed. Dont rush it, youre supposed to wear the docs, dont let the docs wear you
Ankle socks can be worn with boots so long as they're broken in first and the heel sits in the right spot. Ive got the 20 eyelet docs and i can rock em with ankle socks all day long
Tips for breaking in: 1) Buy a good leather conditioner or dubbin - wipe down the boots with a damp cloth, let dry, then massage the conditioner into the surface (and possibly the inside) of the boot. This will help soften the leather and gently waterproof your boots 2) Find a pair of thick, wool or cushy socks that rise as high or higher than the boots - this will help protect against blisters and provide gentle streching to the leather 3) lace them relatively tight, and wear them around the house for a few hours at a time (such as when cleaning etc). If you feel any pain, take them off. Youll gradually be able to wear them for longer periods of time 4) once you can wear them for a few hours without pain, then you can try going on short walks outside, going for errands, etc. Work your way up to longer distances When youre buying a pair of docs, blundstones, or other leather boots keep in mind that full breaking in will take a few weeks of regular wear. But after that, if you take care of them, theyll mold to your feet and last you years and years
Hi there, what socks did you use? Mine left me blisters even tho they're compression socks??? :( Maybe it's bcz they weren't my size bcz I was borrowing my brothers socks
If you think the break in process for those were hard, wait until you try to break in a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers. Took me over a month to break those in.
Wet and wear them in the shower, it softens the leather without messing up the shoe, takes maybe 3 times max Just do a bunch of ankle motions etc while they’re wet and you won’t get blisters anymore
Don't. Soak them in Water upside down if you must and put them on after rinsing them upside down but don't let any water come near the insole. Chunks of it are made from fibers which are essentially paper. Letting them submerge fully will wear down their lifespan dramatically.
Nooooo leather is like skin - saturating it with water and not conditioning it is a recipe for it to dry out and significantly shorten the lifespan before cracking. If they dont dry completely (such as in a humid or wet climate), you can also run into mold. As the other commenter mentioned, this will also damage any wood fibres or cork within the insoles. If you have to wet them while breaking them in, it's better to do it on the surface with a damp cloth, let them dry, then immediately apply dubbin or leather conditioner. You can even apply it to the inside of the boot
@pitmezzari2873 the english made have metal shanks in the midsole, but otherwise aren't that much of a step up in quality. If you want something near identical at that pricepoint, go with solovair (the original manufacturer of docs) or nevermind - they're more focused on sustainability and ethical manufacturing. But at that pricepoint I'd honestly go for something you can re-sole easier - ie genuine goodyear or blake welted heritage or chelsea boots. Imo "new" docs aren't as bad as original fans make them out to be in terms of quality - they were always made in a way that allowed for mass quantities to be produced for low costs, largely for the working class. They're good for the price, but don't expect to be able to wear them to work everyday for years or be able re-sole them.
I usually wear a men’s 12 wide and I had to go with a 13 for the 1460 8 eye boot. I need that wiggle room for my toes. Their size chart was way off for me. For length it showed I should wear a 10 and for width a 15.

Never thought of the shower! I had heard of a similar method w a hair dryer though🤷🏼♀️
@@all_things_grace it’s weird I know but it’s a trick of the trade, hair dryers won’t work but strangely water and wear and tear do x

You wore them on ice?? I tried that and got injured.
Hey great video.. are they true to size? Or should you Down a size
I just got some! On their website, they have a size guide. Measure your foot, add a half inch, and then see what works
@eair18 I went from a 9 to and 8.. I was told at the store the Chelsea boots will loosen over time

You need to wear proper socks!
You could've worn them in the rain, job done.
