ErickKawaii I do - it's by far the definitive version of Super Mario 64, even with the 'being designed for d-pad' limitation. It's graphically and aesthetically superior, and has more content in it. The only way 64 is better than 64 DS is in glitch potential, which isn't something most people care about all that much. In fact, I'm surprised 64 DS hasn't supplanted the original in terms of mentions and shorthand (as in "what's your favourite? 64 DS or Sunshine?" or "compared to 64 DS, Galaxy has such and such").
tbh the DS version is really slow, the voices were changed and the graphics are as ugly as the n64 version, so that's why i think the n64 version is better than DS.
ErickKawaii Voices? There's barely any voice-acting in either version! Furthermore, of course it changed; they could not reuse eight-year-old clips made for a completely different sound system, and they also had to create new clips for Yoshi, Luigi and Wario. The aesthetics (_not_ graphics, which refers to the number of polygons, texture quality, lighting and particle effects and draw distance) are also much improved to the original 64 version; things aren't as smudgy anymore. Sure, 64 DS might be graphically inferior in some ways - it's incredibly pixellated when played on the big screen via Wii U Virtual Console - but that's because it was made for the ~240p DS screens, and thus forgivable. 64 DS is also NOT 'slow', thank you very much; I've played it through to 100% several times, and I've never once encountered noticeable slowdown. As for movement being 'slow', also not the case; getting around the castle and the various courses is a pretty quick endeavour; the only exception is Wario's swimming speed, because...duh, he's nowhere near as physically fit as the other three (too much pudge). Still, you don't need to play as him (or swim as him) all that often, so it doesn't even matter. Oh, and because 64 DS is a DS game, it's also portable and playable in any DS or 3DS system; a great source of enjoyment on the go. Unlike the original, which - as far as I know - is not portable in any form (cartridge or VC).
Don't need Lava Boosts to get the volcano elevator star anymore. We just need to ram into a Bully for 22 hours then do some magic with parallel universes.
I know the feeling man. When i try to get out of bounds (in another game) and find out that the wall has a double hitbox that doesn't let me pass through... :'(
I expected my idea to not be useful, but it's honestly sad to finally realise the amount of frustration you have to go through before finding something useful to the ABC stars.
Lateralusticus Well, I guess I've been sheltering you viewers by only posting things that worked or looked like they had potential. But the fact of the matter is, most things I test end up not working, and so disappointment is a large part of ABC testing and research.
pannenkoek2012 Well yeah. I wasn't being serious, mind you. I figured that for all the lucky close calls we've had, there's got to be an equal or greater amount of unlucky close calls (though WDW Top of the Town takes the cake on that one)
00:30 it's as if the game put that wall there to challenge Panenkoek2012! Panenkoek, the game is calling out to you! You absolutely must solve this one! Show this game who's boss!
I'm almost certain when I played N64 as a child I fell through the floor where the catterpillar is. I think I did something somewhere where the bends in the floor are.
What if, while gaining hyper speed on the banister, when you got off of it, could you somehow do a dive recover to get back on to the banister? Since dive recovers go higher than AB kicks. You probably wouldn't be able to get an angle good enough to do it, but maybe it would work.
Theoretically yes, but in practice the speed gained during that short time is so small that you really can't do anything useful with it before it runs out
For the one with the TTC box I had an idea. 1a)Couldn't you use a Bomb-ombs' explosion to push you on top of the box OR 1b)Use fire and while going up from the fire, use an explosion to boost you on top of the box? 2)use the trick you use to place a bomb-omb high up enough for it to load/fall when you get on top of the yellow box and grab it? In theory it could work. Granted you use instant release for the unloaded bomb and fire clones to boost you up.
Retro Mari Gamer Not a GIF actually It's pannen trying the slightest angle variations, you can see him in the first 2 hit the wall but in the others he goes past
So the Edison quote allegedly goes, "I haven't failed, I've only discovered ten thousand ways that don't work." This stuff doesn't come out right the first time; it's important to remember the error in trial-and-error.
i think there would be some benefit to doing another one of these. make good use of these disappointments and failures to aid in teaching others what cannot be done and give them a reason to try better and harder to get around such obstacles
at 1:43, i don't know, i feel like something can be done with that. i know it's kind of a moot point now that you can get past that 0xA regardless, but still
No. You can only clone things that load while you're holding a fake object. But since all those things load right when you enter the level, this isn't possible (unless there's a loading point like in WDW or DDD)
The problem is the out of bounds area is 3D. With enough speed, Mario's quarter-step might be *above* the cavern, but not inside it, so still out of bounds. You'd need to also get the right vertical speed to move that point down into the cavern.
To add to this, Mario's downward speed is capped at 75, so you would need to gain all the speed at the same instant you moved, which doesn't look to be possible, and even then the game might cap the speed before the movement check
nope. thats the pole in BitFS. this has actually been solved twice. you can use VSC to get above it and someone figured out how to use the misalignment to get onto the platform.
+Magdalena Bartosiewicz It's a point where a single unit of space exists between two walls and a floor, making Mario able to clip under that floor slightly. (anyone can correct me if I'm wrong)
