Brilliant project especially in the theme of 'The Great Escape!' But surely you should get rid of the spoil by little bags hidden inside the bottom of your trousers and opened by an arrangement of string and pins, while walking around your garden, discretely dumping it? Plus shoring up the tunnel with off cuts of wood from around your home, floorboards, bed bases etc would be more 'authentic'? 😊 On a safety note, are you sure those pieces of old computer case strong enough to support the tunnel roof in the event of a collapse⚠️🤔😲😳

You could get another threadmill to attached behind the first one, tilt up at an agle height of the tubs filling into a chute into the tubs, 2nd person just changes the tubs, yiu can get long skinny conveyor belts from hire shops, you could daisychain them together as long as you wanted
You should put digging teeth on a chain system over the conveyor so the conveyor motor and system does the digging it’s self. Like a trencher that you can move up and down to get a full width of cut the size of the tunnel.

Julian, the theme is the great escape tunnel so when finished will be similar size to the original, and my idea is to let the water drain through the steel and have a dry centre, much more into this on part 4 out tonight where I battle against the English winter weather.

But I worry the tunnel could flood, as your metal side/floor panels aren't a water-tight seal are they? Still, you know what you're doing! I'm loving this anyway mate, keep it up it's fantastic.👍👍
I'm wondering how you address adding fresh air and venting stale air? I'm hoping someone on the team is familiar with working in confined spaces, particularly with soil loading on walls and roofs. I've never watched your videos before this project, but I'm curious to see how it goes.
I don't know how long you plan on getting the tunnel.. but maybe already add air and lights while you go? Like every third section, a bracket to hang stuff from? Maybe one of these comms, two old landline phones that way you can talk with the support crew😉
note to anyone who wants to do this ; mask your vehicle rego in your videos because local govt will get jealous and shut you down and some people would want to take it off you (at knifepoint) in the case of SHTF
Could you extend the conveyor past the operator so the soil gets collected into a container where a second person can remove the full container and replace it with a new one, utilizing small rail cars to transport the full and empty containers back and forth?
Could also extend the grips of the actual boring machine so a single operator can sit well behind it, allowing a single person to removel full containers and replace with empty ones. Or at least provide more operator comfort given he wouldn't need to lay his chest down on that small platform.
Extending the boring machine handles back would prevent it from Being able to swing round and drill the corners, there isnt room for a conveyor that’s long enough and high enough to go directly onto the tubs so hence why I’m going a slightly different route 😄
I would say buy another auger setup. Then weld 2 or 3 auger bits together. The make shute that funnels the dirt between your legs directly in to a bucket/ basket. All the other guy has to do is make sure to swap baskets in time not to spill any dirt.
I haven't had a chance to view earlier videos, but I would think that a compressed air chisel or jack hammer would be more effective than the screw mechanism.
I had to subscribe. :) The only thing that worries me is the tunnel strength. A huge dumping of soil would fold them like paper. I wonder if it was worth digging higher so you can sit up and be in more control. It’s my dream to tunnel as well
@@Tornado_Dave nah, you're just having fun and doing it the most common sense way possible. I love the sheet metal parts though. People really underestimate how bolted sheet parts become ridiculously strong (and reliable).
Epic project, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 but I guess it would have been a bit easier if you had made the tunnel a bit higher and wider even if it is a lot more material to dig through..
I understand your desire to use those metal panels for shoring, but i definitely think they need reinforcing. Obvious suggestion would be to brace with a 2x4 frame, but obvious that you are limited in terms of space. I wonder if you could reinforce internally using some thicker plate, or even better, maybe some angle iron?

They seem to be holding up so far, I am cladding it with wood afterwards so it looks authentic, and I’m on the soil removal process on the next vid 😀

A hammer drill, with an sds spade/shovel bit is perfect for carving small tunnels.
Yes I was going to do it that way but wanted to load the tubs quickly so think this will be good to get the bulk of the soil out when its finished

I want the finished product to be the same as the real great escape to keep the military theme I have here
Have you thought about using a shopvac to excavate the tunnel?
It would work but you would fill about 10 per section so might be quicker with the buckets still

I understand your desire to use those metal panels for shoring, but i definitely think they need reinforcing.
Obvious suggestion would be to brace with a 2x4 frame, but obvious that you are limited in terms of space.
I wonder if you could reinforce internally using some thicker plate, or even better, maybe some angle iron?

Random question but have you ever put a magnet down the well to see if there are any treasures.
The well is dry in summer so I go down to the bottom and see what I’ve dropped, normally tape measures 😂
