I literally just bought the DJI RS3 Pro and the LIDAR 3 days ago this is going to change Film making forever ARE KIDDING ME😳😳 the fact we can use cinema lens as a single person shooter wowwww
so are you convinced that it's going to change film making forever or were you sarcastic? Not sure, and I'm thinking about getting DJi RS3 PRO with Lidar. Let me know...
@@UnchartedWorlds no I was quiet serious about that statement bro for years film productions relied on focus pullers and not to say they still won’t cause the LiDAR technology still need some refining But with the LiDAR you can now auto focus Cinema lens without a focus puller revolutionary I highly recommend you get both rs3 with the LiDAR
@@mcneilbelle Great, I've got Blackmagic 6k pro and some DZOFilm Pictor Lenses I hope to use with this. I hope the gimbal will work with zoom cinema lenses without much hickups, I'm guessing I will have to register each zoom level as a different lens? I guess I will have to experiment, but it would be nice to know before investing money :)
Randomly clicked on this video cuz I love me some anamorphic and was interested in seeing how the LiDAR did with it. Then noticed you linked me in your description. Really appreciate that! Your work is incredible! 🙌🏼
I use my RS2 ALL the time, I’m really looking forward to upgrading and try out the LiDAR. I even have uses for the LiDAR on my phone for client work in real estate, it’s a pretty amazing technology in our hands.
I don’t know why but, I just love the Way anamorphic lenses work it. always gives you that contrast of a Moody color or how red and blue light pop out or when smoke Blows through the wind always reminds me of blade runner.
2:43 so this is actually something i'd very very interested in. I have the rs3 pro but i'd looove to use lidar with even analog 16mm camera's... Any word on that side handle? And would it use the current lidar and focus motor?
How good is the LiDAR-enable active tracking on a gimbal in low light conditions, the maximum effective distance, and the scenarios with the active tracking aborts the tracked subject (how long it tolerates the subject being temporarily obscured). And under what conditions does the active tracking succeed in re-acquiring a subject that was temporarily obscured. I have ye to find a pro camera/lense sized active-track or AI-track gimbal that works OK in low light at distances up to 50 feet.
@cammackey Amazing video and cool footage! Is it possible for the autofocus tracking work whilst the gimbal isn't in a tracking mode? So completely manual gimbal operating with autofocus tracking...
Nice video, thanks for sharing all the knowledge. Mind sharing what battery you're using in your setup? Is it a 50Wh or 98Wh. I"m assuming that the weight difference could offset the whole rig.
One the things makes your work very unique is the way you color your videos. It is just amazing. Do you used film emulsion? For example the shot of the lady with anamorphic lens at the very beginning of your video?
Looks like they definitely improved on the LiDAR focus assist that was released with the RS2. Calibrating that was a hassle sometimes. Great shots as always!
I have been using 3d focus with 0.95 35m, which works ok in the daylight conditions (center frame) but Lidar would be so much more reliable, especially in low light! Great video!
I have the RS3 Pro and the LiDAR system also. One thing I've had an issue with is framing for close shots. The image the camera captures is not the same as the image the LiDAR sees, and so when I turn on Active Track it winds up tracking the bottom half of people's faces, even though the focus box is tracking their faces properly. I've asked in the DJI forums about this, but no replies. Have you experienced this problem?
That’s what the 2X zoom fixes. You have to update the firmware. I’m sure someday they’ll be able to connect a LiDAR system to what the camera sensor is seeing
@@cammackey My firmware on the gimbal and the LiDAR is current, and I've already tried the 2X zoom which did not help. You can see the problem in the video I posted above.
Hi cam mackey, Thanks a lot for this informative video -- I really liked the closeup shots of the gimbal so I could see the build quality. At this point, I am not sure whether it is best to keep my Zhiyun Crane 2 for the next few years or upgrade to the RS3 Pro. I have had the Zhiyun Crane 2 since 2018 and have been using it to make walking videos -- feel free to check them out on my channel. It is calibrated nicely to compensate for sudden turn movements (good amount of deadband). Though the micro jitters and z axis bounce movement can bother me sometimes -- especially on intense hikes. I am wondering in your opinion whether it is worth it to upgrade from the Zhiyun Crane 2 to the DJI RS3 Pro?
I mean when you have a DJI gimbal, you’re investing into a whole system of options. From all the Tilta accessories, to the LiDAR, to app support and all of that it all cones down to your need tho. DJI is like an industry standard at this point, depending on the size of production obviously. It’s not my job to be a salesman tho, if what you have works fir you then no need to spend money!
@@cammackey Thanks a lot for providing insight, Cam. Although I do think my setup is top heavy so it can put additional stress. Honestly, I just want a dumb gimbal that does its job reliably. I have no interest in the extra features/bells and whistles. I am hoping the RS3 would fulfill that better than my current Zhiyun Crane 2. I would appreciate if you check out my recent videos to see what I do. You can see as mentioned, it is not complicated what I am after, just simple smoothness. Is there a soft spot for how wide the lens should be open in order for the system to work best? How fast is the lidar system able to compensate for a shallow DOF when your subject is moving? Great real world review, thank you
@@cammackey do you like it with the 1.6x lenses? I feel like the combo would need open gate shooting pretty bad which canon somehow doesn’t have on the R5C yet 😢
Can I ask if I use a lens like DZOFilm Pictor which is a zoom lens, if I register it with 35mm, and I later change the zoom to 50mm, I will have to register this as another lens in the RS3? Do you have experience with cinema zoom lenses and how one would use/register them with this gimbal? each zoom level that one plans to use would be registered as separate cinema lens? I've seen in other reviews on youtube that they only allow you to save 3 lenses, do you know if this number has been increased with any firmware updates? Greatfull for response, btw I've just subscribed! :)

Well usually the night before I get everything pre balanced. If possible I keep it rigged out. But say we show up and aren’t able to rig it till that morning.. myself, if the lens profiles are already in.. under 15 minutes. I’m pretty quick with it personally. But a lot of my assistant can take forever on it if they’re not super familiar I would 1000% not try to instal the lens updates on the same day as a job though. Like sure it’s semi quick to do after you’ve done it a few times. But you gotta test it after and all that for safty. Just not wise.
