Funny. I had to look it up but the album this song came from had those words in the title. When I first read your comment I was stumped so I had to look it up. But I don’t know if this is the only song I’ve heard from that album.
On a somewhat related note - ha, get it? - this song has a bit of a funk-slash-reggae vibe to me. I’m not sure what genre it’s listed under. But it made me think of a new Bob Marley movie that I think just released. I kind of like Reggae but I’m really interested to watch that film. It’s called maybe, “Bob Marley.” But I want to at least get a 30-thousand foot view of his life as I don’t really know his history.
War hold a very special place in my heart, I saw Eric Burdon on The Animals last tour in December 1968, in 1969 we saw Eric Burdon with War, they had just started and Eric Burdon helped make them Stars! Every morning when I was 17, my AP Dance class did our warmup’s to War!! Really fun to wake and dance at 8:00 am Monday-Friday, I love dance and I love War, they were fantastic, still have their debut album!!!!
I seen them open for Cheech & Chong a few years back , 6 or 7 maybe and they were awesome. Chong was jamming with them toward the end of the show.... Man 😊✌
Lee Oskar, who plays harmonica, lives here in Seattle area, and does (or did) own a music shop and taught music lessons. He was a frequent guest on the Bob Rivers show and would occasionally make guest appearances with Bob's band Spike and the Impalers.
I LOVE Supertramp band, too! Saw them on their ‘78 “Breakfast in America” tour, a top concert for sure! Interesting back story on Lee Oskar, thanks for sharing with us here, like to read about the musicians from their fans.
This has to be the first time I’ve ever heard a lead singer call out ( The Bridge ) in a song. He did it in a unique way. Both times too. He’s to flipping cool.
Yes, my Mommy did everything to show me her LOVE. She sacrificed, struggled, and pumped me up when others were dismisive of me and my copacity to learn. I will forever ♾️ be grateful to her. She is gone since 1982 but we are still Connected from her indelible imprint on My life!😊😅🎉🎉😂❤ I was truly blessed to have her love, wisdom and passion!
One thing I really loved about War is that several of the guys sang lead vocals depending on the song. Charles Miller, the saxophonist, sang lead vocals on Lowrider.
After seeing War on The Midnight Special, I became a fan right then and there. I hardly ever missed an episode (Except for those nights I left after coming in for curfew! Mama never told me that I couldn't leave again.....) So happy to see these shows again!
I remember listening to this on AM radio they were no categories on AM radio they played it all FM radio come along and ruined it 1 minute they play war the next minute they played Johnny Cash those days were good to be alive
Funny lyric. I laughed when I finally picked it up tonight. I think it was because I could see the lead singer and I can kind of read lips. But I never knew the lyrics until I read them while pausing this video.
I think this song released maybe 50 years ago but I’d have to look it up. I vaguely remember it from when I was really young. I don’t know if it would be listed as “Reggae” but it has that vibe, maybe a fusion with funk? But it was really popular back then.
That's it right there!! -this performance is second only to Joe Walsh in the rich Midnight Special history - oops - I forgot about ACDC Sin City - this is top 2 or 3 all time
It’s really funny because I’ve heard this song so many times although it’s been awhile. But it’s the first time I heard the lyric, “Eat the salted peanuts out of can,” or something like that so I had to go peek at the lyrics for the first time to verify. It’s like the lyric in the Steely Dan song, “Is there gas in the car?” and my wife didn’t believe it when I repeated it. But I think there was a Cisco Kid from history but I’m hazy on that. Funny lyrics although I’m not quite sure of meaning. (I did a quick peek and I guess the Cisco Kid was a fictional character from a book over 100 years ago, and then there were movies and TV shows. Maybe I watched them when I was a kid. A Cisco Kid I suppose.)
@@johntobin3235thanks. Yeah, I just looked it up and edited my comment. I think I had maybe seen it on a TV show but I would’ve been really young back then. I guess I was about nine when this song released which means I’m a Boomer ;-)
A reference perhaps to "Salt Peanuts" by Dizzy Gillespie, sometimes considered the first bebop song. But probably just something Pancho and Cisco did on the TV show.
I'd be remiss if i didn't recommend PDBass' 'WAR's Greatest Bass Line' ua-cam.com/video/wlLoXeSQSCQ/v-deo.html and you might never know just how brilliant this band were/are if you don't see it
Wow, it must have been a mostly white audience... anyone notice the monumental contrast between the deep, heavy, grooviest groove ever vs. the incredibly stoic and seemingly immoveably dead audience body non=movement???????? How can people sit motionless while the most intense groove they ever encountered is there to be experienced and they refuse to feel how real the groove is/////
Love The Midnight Special! What a historic archive of music legends.
The world is still a ghetto, thanks for posting this classic!
Only because you keep putting the ghetto masters, the democrat party, in charge. Lol
Funny. I had to look it up but the album this song came from had those words in the title. When I first read your comment I was stumped so I had to look it up. But I don’t know if this is the only song I’ve heard from that album.
@@Washington-Dreaming it's a great album, give it a listen!

He was a friend of mine, too. ❤❤❤
Happy 78th Birthday, Howard Scott, singing lead. This WAR fan is so honored you're a friend of mine.
Loved this song in the day and Slipping into Darkness. A great band that deserves more recognition.
I seen them open for Cheech & Chong a few years back , 6 or 7 maybe and they were awesome. Chong was jamming with them toward the end of the show.... Man 😊✌
THANK YOU MIDNIGHT SPECIAL!!!!

Damn, the musicianship was on point! Simply amazing.🤩

Harold Brown was the drummer. And my neighbor around this time. Great guy.
My Baby Brother and I love this song!

He looks like he's loving' life & he should be!! & It's clear you know yer stuff because I see that Stupertramp avatar

maaaan "eat the salted peanuts from the can" and "blasting drinking port" has stuck with me all my life for some reason😂😂😂
I made up words when he sang eat peanuts out the can.😅😊
My nephew can relate
As good as it gets.
Recently heard this album the other day, and I gotta say, it is one of the best albums I've ever heard.
Have you heard their live album, War Live? One of my all-time favorites.
Thrilled to see this stuff on youtube..Smart fellow who bought the rights to this shit!
B.B. Dickerson on bass. 🎶
That bass line is simple enough that even I can play it, but it’s got more funk than human beings should be allowed to experience! How he do that??
One of my all time favorite songs !!!
War was such an epic influence to the music of the era.. and still worth listening to today
My dad's absolute favorite... he'd be dancing around the house getting ready for work @ BART station Concord..miss u pops!💜Ty for faith & funk!🙏
This has to be the first time I’ve ever heard a lead singer call out ( The Bridge ) in a song. He did it in a unique way. Both times too. He’s to flipping cool.
James Brown did that all the time. 😂
Check out "The Crunge" by Led Zeppelin.
They belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Yes, yes they do. And many more great bands
Best thing about the midnight special, everybody had to perform live. No lip sink.
I have the best childhood memories listening to '70's music.
One of the most vital important channels on youtube delivers another precious gem today. Thank you again.
I met BB in San Bernardino at his shop in 1981 and he was the greatest. Always welcoming and caring.
One of the best live performances of all time! Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
Mandrill/War 1973!! Wow ! What a vibe!! None better! Thank you 🙏

Most underrated band ever.
Awesome!! I grew up with this music! WAR was and still is awesome!! Great groove!!!
Freaken Bad-Ass! Can we go back in time to be at that show?

Good way to start my workday. Jammin
I love this 🎵 🎶, kudos to the Midnight Special for putting this band on,you have excellent taste🎉🎉
As a kid I played War tunes on my Radio Shack Mach 1 speakers. Today it’s pumped on my Bowers & Wilkins and they have never sounded better. ☮️
Also in Sennheiser.
de la tuerie en terme musical... des vrais instruments de la véritable musique... Bravo à War !!!!
Great song! This is another 70s song about cowboys and cowboy TV shows.
This performance is amazing!!!
My favorite band
mine too
I grew up with this Awesome Music.
UNDERRATED PARTY BAND!!!! AWESOME
Cisco kid con Eric Bardon live
Still no one could put War in a genre. I never saw a band that looked more fun to play in.
This is a Chicano band if there ever was one
One thing I really loved about War is that several of the guys sang lead vocals depending on the song.

Oh man i love War! And I'm a white girl from the burbs! Ok no longer a "girl" I'm 64 but hey who's counting? It's War!!!!!❤

I forever associate them with Cheech and Chong ❤
I sing this when I eat salted peanuts out the can

@@Washington-Dreaming I swear, that lyric is gonna be stuck in my head for atleast like 60 years
Growing up I remember watching midnight Special on t v when I came one seeing all the good groups
The Midnight Special always had a great sound system and accustics(sp).
So cool
Fabulous live music from these guys!
Love war
Gotta love the bass drum with the blanket falling out, and the double-headed toms with only the top heads!
Wow! Men were so slim back then

1972 if memory serves.
Take me way back to my miltary time
The bad and the good, brothers
what a great band ! nothing as good in today's music !
I remembering watching this on the midnight special at delta-1 missile site, minot afb, ND (sac)😊

Excellent( but I didn't see Papa Dee Allen on percussions).
RIP B.B. Dickerson, Gaucho Pride 🎸🎶👍🏼
Keep on grooving
Cisco=whiskey. Poncho= wine. In pittsburgh we drank thunderbird and Mad Dog 20 20
Lee Oskar had some wild hair!
Late in the song he changes out harmonica’s to finish out the song.
Bons tempos
show de bola!
That damn Lee Oskar...BADD MAN!!!! This was a serious group!!!

Cisco Kid was a 50’s tv show and his sidekick was Pancho

I wish the harmonica stood out more for this performance, like on the record. Lee's Ronald McDonald hairdo ROCKS!
i wish the harp and clarinet were louder in the live performances, would've made it 100 times better
A AM radio staple back in the day. Look kids real musicians.
Why Can’t We Be Friends is my favorite song by WAR.
Ey, Cisco!
What I thought it was: a Melodica
What it turned out to be: a Harmonica + a Soprano Saxophone
Smoke Sesh
😂 even the white boy got an Afro
You gotta have an afro to play that music! Except for B.B. Dickerson, who can do whatever he wants, cause damn that’s how you do it on the bass.
But he liked those salted peanuts in his jam :P
no lip syncing crap back then
afternoon delight anyone 2024 enjoy.......
Mexican Mafia loves this song ..... Texas From 30TA Logan Heights San Diego
I saved it
