      @@BlenderArt Great work. And now with a real Blender: 2.79.
      With 2,8 above nobody really want to work, **A LOT** to slow, and a **MASSIVLY BORING 3dsmax** Clone of "research of the Slowlyness" UI. (and a very very ugly one). So do not call this thing "Blender" call it "Wannabe 3dsmaxmaya" To work with this Thing is just painful. Same like Self Inquisition.

    I love that you go through a lot of information quickly. Not that I can pick it all up that quickly... but you understand I have the power to pause and playback the areas I'm having trouble with and pick out the pieces of information I need with a few play throughs of that stretch. Great tutorial.

    If you're stuck on 14:10 you're origin of the plane you added earlier mirrors that. To solve this you need to select cursor and place it on the first plane of the face tile. click Object, Set Origin, and Origin to 3d Cursor and the dot should move there along with the other side of the face merging together just like in the video at 14:13. Hope this helps someone, You're doing great for making this far in the video as well! let's complete this course!!!

      I was having this issue too, thank you for posting this! Also if anyone else needs more elaboration what I needed to do was first sculpt the first blue section with the plane, then I adjusted it to fit the the side view (which of course made the front view not align) then I moved the front head view up/down a little left/right till my adjustments still fit the side view perfectly and the front view pretty well. Then everything seemed to be lined up properly. I also moved the body reference to fit the new head reference image position for the front view.

    Modelling didn't take me anywhere except for learning about topology.. the easy fast and satisfying method for me is to combine basic shapes with subdivision and solidify modifiers on.. then glue, booleans cleanup and etopo when necessary

    • @Micromation
      @Micromation 2 роки тому

      My workflow is usually Blender or ZBrush for sculpt, alternativelly bashing together parts of the final design (this was the case when I was recreating WW2 Japanese fighter plane and needed it as one piece of geometry so there was a lot of transitions within the wireframe, especially near the wing area since the model had to be pretty high resolution - an absolute headache!) and then just retopo fresh geometry on top of it. It's maybe not the fastest solution but it gives good results.

    Really good tutorial so far. A few things I noticed: It would have been easier to follow if you first added the Mirror modifier and _then_ added the Subdivision Surface modifier. Also, I almost missed the "on cage" option and was confused why your vertices moved after you applied the Subdivision Surface mod and mine didn't. So, it would have been good to point that "on cage" option out more clearly.
    Other than that, pretty awesome so far.

    I would like to say this is a great tutorial. I watch all your "episodes" before doing this and did notice it started to feel rushed in later "episodes". I will point out for future viewers that this tutorial failed to mention how important it is to line the ref images for the head with the "Z" (Blue) Line. You have to center it like he did or else you will have problems when you add mirror modifiers later on. Hope this helps those in the future! This is a great tutorial by someone with a lot of skill and experience to share.

    Future confused and frustrated people, if the mirroring / mirror is messing up for you and doesn't look like his, it's likely because your color reference photos are not PERFECTLY on the Axis! (Red, Blue, Green lines on the Grid). If you placed them willy nilly like I did, the All Transform command he tells you will be very off. I'm not sure if he said this earlier in the video clearly, but I noticed he does it. Once I did it, was fixed.

    Is it common to be able to use reference images with topology to follow? It seems like most of the time available reference images would be sketches or pictures of characters or people. In this case, would you start by making a low poly model like you did for the body and continue to refine the detail to get to the point that the reference image of the head that you use? I have no experience, so I am confused about this part.

      @dreambadger Рік тому

      @@StudioHannah I was thinking about this. Once you've done a few models, you can just use these topology references as a base to work on on future models, like a blue print. This one saves a lot of the trial and error to reach the point to be able to do that yourself. I'm not sure how much steam this kind of work flow has left though, as things like Metahuman exist now.

      @xdreki5077 Рік тому +1

      @@dreambadger Well, MetaHumans does exactly what it says. Makes highly realistic humans, but that's the limits to it. If you want a custom 5" tall elf girl/boy with certain shapes or cartoonized this is your best bet still because not everyone is going for ultra-realistic humans. I've played around with MetaHumans before wanting to learn Blender. MetaHumans creator can't make mermaids, Cars, etc like this can so by learning this you're learning how to branch off into more complex designs not yet possible with Meta Humans. I do hope 1 day AI can do half the work this requires though, and give me a general concept of a person, and then let me edit from there. Or general concept of a car, and let me do it from there. Would extinguish the tedious X, Y, Z axis stuff, and go straight to molding/sculpting. However you might be able to download/upload blender files of half-made molds somewhere unsure so you can fine-tune to your liking. Which would skip every step of this video. but that's not how you learn!

    Hey, at 14:20, whenever i press All transforms, the two planes go far apart from eachother instead of still next to eachother. How do i fix this?

      My object origin/center was way away from the actual geometry of the object, I moved the 3d cursor to where I wanted it (in tools - T) and then right clicked on the object and selected Set Origin - Origin to 3D cursor. If your placement is off you can keep selecting origin to 3d cursor. Hope that helps!

      I'm an absolute beginner and I've been able to follow this tutorial (ok it took me several hours).
      The guy speaks quite fast but don't forget that we can slow down the video ;-)
      Remember, the 2 faces must be centered on the z axis and you have to "Ctrl + A -> All Transforms" on your first surface once it is positioned (I got screwed).

The references are at the same z height and i truly have no idea what's causing this mismatch. Any help is appreciated
